2. Audience
In terms of audience, Trophy would be aimed at both a teenage and adult audience. Due to the
mature themes that are in the film, it would not be suitable for children. It would also apply to
all genders, since the film doesn't aim to glorify any specific gender. The main socio-economic
group that would watch this film would be the "E" group, due to the fact that they would need
a disposable income. This includes teenagers and unemployed adults, due to the free time that
they have to watch this. The film doesn't follow all of the main horror movie conventions, but
follows the conventions of a psychological horror which could be interesting to fans of films
such as 'The Shining' or 'Silence of the Lambs', allowing older audiences to see it due to their
previous interests. Since my film contains a teenage cast, it would allow teenagers to relate to
the content on screen, and would appeal to them more. The choice of actors allow the teenage
audience to be invested, since it makes the situation that the characters are in apply to the
audience.
3. Institutions that may distribute my media
product.
• Institutions heavily known for making interesting and successful horror movies may want to
distribute my film. 'Warner Bros' are known for producing superhero movies like
Christopher Nolan's highly recognised Batman trilogy. They also had produced films such as
the Harry Potter saga and the Middle-Earth saga. However, they also produced 'The
Shining', a wildly successful psychological horror film which contained themes of both a
sexual and a violent nature.
• Another institution that may consider distributing my media product would be Universal
Pictures. They are well known for producing films such as Despicable Me and films
containing the superhero Hulk. Even though that these films are mainly family friendly,
Universal Pictures had also produced Alfred Hitchcock's film, 'Psycho'. 'Psycho' is one of
the most successful horror movies of all time, and falls under the psychological horror
movie category.
4. Representation of characters.
• My production has a black teenage male lead with a white teenage female playing the supporting role. There
is no suggestion that the female has doing anything wrong to trigger the male's murderous motives. She is
merely being observed at first. The fact that the victim is random represents that humans are capable of
anything horrific. This breaks the conventions of mainstream horror movies, but doesn’t break conventions
related to psychological horror films since Hannibal Lecter, one of the main characters of 'The Silence of
the Lambs', also follows this idea since he murders his victims aimlessly and eats them. Horror movies tend
to cast women to show them as inferior and weak characters to the male villain. I have decided to use this
idea but have broken the convention that she survives. I have done this to emphasise the fact that anything
could happen if somebody was a person was capable enough. The female's costume is considered standard
clothing, relating to the audience since the average teenage audience wouldn't wear overly-expensive clothes.
However, the male teenager is wearing a suit and surgical attire, suggesting to the audience that he is of a
different background, making it harder for the audience to relate to the villain.
