Circulatory System:
The circulatory system, also called the cardiovascular system, is an organ
system that permitsblood to circulate and transport nutrients (such
as amino acids and electrolytes), oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones,
and blood cells to and fromthe cells in the body to provide nourishment
and help infighting diseases, stabilize temperature and pH, and
maintain homeostasis. The study of the blood flow is
called hemodynamics. Thestudy of the properties of the blood flow is
called hemorheology.
The body's circulatory systemreally has three distinct parts:pulmonary
circulation, coronary circulation, and systemic circulation. Or, the lungs
(pulmonary), theheart (coronary), and the restof the system(systemic).
Each part mustbe working independently in order for them to all work
together.
The circulatory systemis centred on the HEART, a muscular organ that
rhythmically pumps BLOOD around a complex network of BLOOD
VESSELS extending to every part of the body. Blood carries the oxygen
and nutrients needed to fuel the activities of the body’s tissues and
organs, and it plays a vital role in removing the body’s wasteproducts.
An average-sized adultcarries about 5 litres (9 pints) of blood.
