3. HOBBIES
Of a weekend I enjoy baking cupcakes and trying new recipes. I often take it in turns with
my friends to hold dinner parties. Every Wednesday I take part in a quiz at the local pub,
with a group of friends. When I am trying to relax I enjoy reading, and have done this
throughout my life; I find it helps develop my English and communications skills. I
particularly enjoy fantasy and science fiction. I enjoy travelling a great deal. I used my
holidays at university to travel to USA, Mexico, Belgium, Tenerife and Spain. I found this a
great experience, and it has helped me broaden my cultural knowledge and awareness. I
enjoy a variety of sports in particular Running, I have participated in many sporting teams
and ran for many charity events. I am looking forward to the 10K Manchester run in May.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have completed my phase 1 of my professional practice in a mixed year 5/6 class,
maintaining grade 2 with areas of grade 1. My enhancement placement was a very large
school, with three-form entry it has over 600 pupils, and over 30 pupils per class. Situated in
a rich and diverse community, the majority of pupils have English as an additional language.
The children as a collective speak over 20 languages and came from a wide variety of
religions. I really enjoyed the challenges this brought to my attention, I had to find new
innovative ways to teach lessons. During this placement I worked closely with reception and
year 1 where children in foundation stage progressed well and are encouraged to think
independently through discovery learning. After discussions with the teacher, it was reviled
the continuation of the behavioural strategies gives children the sense of stability, which
some may not have encountered before I carried this on to the next phase of my
professional practice. In phase 1, I was placed in a Roman Catholic School in Bacup. I
taught a mixed year five and six class for twelve weeks at St Joseph’s School using the
Creative Curriculum. During my placement, I worked collaboratively with KS2 colleagues in
all areas of the curriculum.
