 Based on the type of Food, Food Packaging
market is segmented into -
 Liquid Food - Sauces, Drinks & Beverages, etc.
 Ready to Eat Food - Chips, Fries etc.
 Non-cooked intermediate Food –
Noodles, Pasta, etc.
 Cooked food – Pizza, Fries, Donuts, etc.
 Instantly Preparable – Instant noodles
 Food Favours and Enhancers – Salt, Spices,
Seasoning, etc.
 Imported/Exported Foods – Fruits, etc.
DIFFERENT PACKAGING MARKET
• Based on type of food, packaging methods can be as
follows
• Plastic and Glass bottles
• Recyclable Paper Tertapacks
• Airtight Inert Gas filled Food Packets
• Paper Bags and Corrugated boxes.
• Small plastic bottles with dispensing mechanism.
• Wooden and Plastic Crates.
DIFFERENT FACTORS
OF FOOD PACKAGING
 Physical state of food, viz solid,
liquid & semi-solid.
 To increase shelf life .
 To protect food from getting
oxidized or rancid.
 To transport food items to long or
short distances.
 To be attractive and appealing to
the customers visually, so as
to make them try the product.
COMMERCIAL ASPECTS OF PACKAGING
• There are several factors to be considered when producing a stand-
out, appealing food product. This means that the box not only has to have the
obvious factors listed in previous slides, but it also has to be the following:
Easy to identify
• Use visuals and branding to ensure the customer can easily and
quickly identify the product.
Easy to open
• The box must be strong enough to withstand transit and be
undamaged when it reaches the customer’s hand.
