INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
“A man without education is like a building without foundation.”
Proper and good education is very important for all of us. It facilitates quality learning all
through the life among people of any age groups, caste, creed, religion and region. It is the
process of achieving knowledge, values, skills, believes and moral habits. people need to get
high level awareness about the importance of knowledge more than before. education is very
necessary for each and everyone in order to improve knowledge, way of living as well as social
and economic status throughout the life. Getting proper education is the birthright. Education is
the ultimate way to get victory over all the personal and social problems. Education is very
important to all of us as it plays very important roles in our life, we need to be educated. it
transforms us completely from inside and outside by changing a mind and personality as well
as improving our confidence level. It changes our life completely as it is constructive in nature.
It helps a person to get knowledge and improve confidence level all through the life. It plays a
great role in our career growth as well as in the personal growth. It has no limitation people of
any age group can get education anytime. It help us to determine about good and bad things.
An educated person having good education becomes the good citizen in the society. we all want
to see our kids going towards success which is only possible through the good and proper
education. Education is real important factor in human life because if you get the knowledge
about certain thing you will be able make a better decision. Education is self empowerment. It
keeps us aware of our given surroundings as well as the rules and regulations of the society we
are living in. to attract young birds towards the field of education more and more benefits must
be kept available by the relevant authorities like mid day meal program, books and uniform
facilities as well. In promotion of education it is a well known person we can say teacher in
common language who is playing a vital role. After all education would encourage people with
the opportunities of taking part in the world of complicated politics and governance and hence
and sure amongst them the spirit of a responsible citizen.
1.1.1 Definition and Meaning of Education
The word education has a wide meaning and it is difficult to define it in precise term. The term
education, teaching and learning are closely related. The objective of education is learning not
teaching. Teaching is the way to make students learn but then it is not the only way. Education is
the key to everything that is good in our world today. Education is not only about the past and
present but it is also the key to the future. Education not only teachers are children facts but also
teaches them how to think and learn on their own.
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
15
Swami Vivekananda defines education is the manifestation of perfection already in man.
Aristotle define education as a creation of a sound mind in a sound body. John Dewey defines
education as a power by which man is able to control his environment and fulfill his possibilities.
According to Frobel, Education is a process by which the child develops its inner potential in a
manner so as to participate meaning fully in the external environment. The purpose of education
is to expand the life of the individual in order to participate in its all prevailing spirit which
manifests and realizes itself in and though the whole universe.
1.1.2 Teaching Concept
‘Educationists should build the capacities of the spirit of enquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and
moral leadership among students and become their role model.’
-Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam
These words reflect the whole idea of what it means to be a teacher. The progress and
prosperity of a nation depends upon the development of its human resources. For this purpose
we need highly competent teachers. Teaching is all about evaluating candidates who want to
enter teaching profession on the basis of their knowledge and skills. The first two basic qualities
required to become a successful teacher. This includes qualification, intelligence, attitude and
many other qualities accepted from a person who wants to become a successful teacher.
Teaching can be defined in the following ways:
● Teaching is a purposeful direction and management of the learning process.
● Teaching is a process of providing opportunities for students to produce relative
Lee permanent change through engagement in next variances provided by the
teachers.
● Teaching is a skillful application of knowledge, experience and scientific principles
with an objective to setup an environment to facilitate learning.
● Teaching is a planned activity and effective teaching depends on the following factors:
a) How clearly the students understand what they are expected to learn.
b) How accurately the learning can be measured.
● Teaching is a process in which the learner teacher and other variables are organized in
a systematic way to obtain some pre-determined goals.
● Teaching is an activity that influences a child to learn and acquire desired knowledge
and skills and also their desired ways of living in the society.
Teaching is one of the most challenging jobs in our society. Teachers play the role of producing
knowledgeable students with good personality. Quality teacher should have good teaching skills
in order to make his teaching effective. Aptitude on the other hand may be described as a special
ability or specific capacity distinct from the general intellectual ability which helps an individual
to acquire the required degree of proficiency for a student in a specific field. aptitude refers to
those qualities characterizing a person's way of behavior which serve to indicate how when he
can learn to meet and solve a certain specified kinds of problem.

1.1.3 What is Teaching
Teaching is one of the instrument of education and its special function is to impart understanding
and skill. The main function of teaching is to make learning effective. The learning process
would get completed as a result of teaching. So teaching and learning are very closely related.
Teaching is a process in which one individual teachers or instruct another individual. teaching is
considered as the act of imparting instructions to the learners in the classroom situation. Dewey
considers it as a manipulation of the situation, where the learner will acquire skills and insight
with his own initiation. teaching is a social and cultural process which is planned in order to
enable and individual to learn something in his life. Teaching is an interactive process between
the student and the teaching sources which is essential for the guidance, progress and
development of students.
Concept of Teaching
“The chief task of education is above all to shape man, or to guide the evolving dynamism
through which man forms himself as a man.”
Traditional concept - Teaching is the act of imparting instructions to the learners in the
classroom situation. In traditional classroom teaching the teacher gives information to students or
one of the students reads from a textbook while the other students silently follow him in their not
merely imparting knowledge or information to students. While important knowledge teacher
should keep in mind the child as well as the orderly presentation of subject matter.
Modern concept – Teaching is to cause the people to learn and requires a desired knowledge,
skills and also desirable ways of living in the society. It is a process in which learner, teacher,
curriculum and other variables are organized in a systematic and psychological way to obtain
some predetermined goals.
1.1.4 Role of Teachers :
India is a country which has one of the oldest civilization all over the world. Epics like
Ramayana and Mahabharata are considered as the oldest of all. Yajurveda, Rigveda and
Samveda that reflect the genius of Hindu culture. These all literature could have been preserved
in India because of the efforts of Rishis and Gurus initially and great Rajguru’s and teachers
later on. The history of India that is reflected in ‘Discovery of India' written by Nehru says that
since civilization took place in this great country gurus and teachers like Drona, Vashishtha,
Sandipani, Vishwamitra, Parshurama, Chanakya Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Guru Nanak and so
many others have contributed beyond our imagination not only in preserving our culture but also
in imparting education and making the Hindustan proud of some of their shisyas like Arjuna,
Rama, Krishna, Eklavya, Karna, Chandragupta ,Guru Govind Singh, Shivaji and Swami
Vivekananda, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, whom Gandhiji respected as his political Guru inspired
him to work for the freedom of India and he made history by making India be independent
country using a weapon of non- violence. After independence Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan has
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
17
been given owner as great teacher by declaring his birthday, 5th
September to be celebrated as a
Teachers day all over the country. These all gurus and teachers have affected the thoughts and
lifestyle of our society at remarkable degree. That is why in our country child is told blindly to
capitulate oneself to the teachers so that one can develop and apply ones own abilities and
increase power to be a good, responsible and self dependent citizen who will live not only for
once better life but also for the betterment of family, society, country and ultimately for universe.
So the role of teacher becomes vital in all round development of the students.
The teacher place many roles counselor, member of the achievement group an
individual or a specialist in the field of educational art. Children learn differently some learn
easily just listening to the guidelines, some find it easier just to be an observer watching the
teacher and trying to reproduce afterwards. A teacher should have an exceptional and creative
personality which means that he/she should have the ability to react to feedback from the
children as well as to be pioneering in his/her creation of solutions for the diverse number of
issues that take place. This also requires academic skills which a lot expanding situations so that
children have new possibilities for problem solving through inspired and innovative solutions.
the teacher must give confidence to children's learning skills through his/her on example. In all
situations that teachers should maintain and affectionate and loving approach to children and
their feelings. He/she must know the area of teaching and also recognize his/her on values which
in turn lead to his/her achievement and solutions. He/she should be able to justify the methods of
providing education so that to motivate the children. Succeeding in corporation requires a
common structure for the action which device responsibilities like shared planning cooperative
realization and negotiation and decision making. Learner- learned cooperation offers an
opportunity to cross professional limits. Common work requires the attitude to make
compromises and avoid competitive positions.
It was believed earlier that teachers are born but now teachers are made in
teacher training institutes. In this circumstance question arises that whether the modern teacher
can perform his duty as effective as our Rishis, Gurus and great teachers used to. The answer is
unanimously will be ‘Yes' if the teacher has professional as well as teaching aptitude. If a person
has such aptitude he can be trained to be an effective and successful teacher who can make his/
her students extract all their abilities for the development of society, country and World along
with their own development. Development of teaching skills depends on the teaching aptitude of
the teachers.
A teacher should not only be competent in his subject, teaching methods, understanding
the learner but also has a favorable attitude as well as attitude towards teaching profession and
should have interest in teaching. Teaching is a noble profession. In education teacher facilitate
student learning of fun in a school or academy or perhaps in another in women such as out doors.
In order to benefit the teachers to their roles a sound professional training is needed and with
adequate knowledge and skills to perform their professional functions.
Teachers play a vital roles in the lives of the students in their classrooms.
Teachers are best known for the role of educating the students that are placed in their care.
Beyond that teachers serve many other roles in the classroom. Teachers set the tone of
their

classrooms build a warm environment mentor and nurture students become role models
and listen and look for signs of trouble.
The teacher is a very important person in the field of education. Upon his shoulders organization
of education is based. His scholarship, conduct and behaviour have a permanent effect on the
students because the student usually imitates his teacher. For young children he is the ideal. It is
necessary for the teacher to be intelligent, polite nature and expert in his subject. Teacher is the
main pillar in the practice of education. If he is competent, honest achiever and confident than
we can be guaranteed of the nation’s future.
Success requires professionalism and expertise in the field of action but
first of all a strong professional identity which makes it possible to give and take mutual know-
how. the essential features are: sharing, companionship, mutual dependence and mutual use of
power. Building cooperation frequently involves at least the following stages: agreement on the
procedure and contents of the activity internalisation of the aims of the action. At its best it may
develop from an official and occasional cooperation to a regular communication where
discussion and exchange of information become possible. When it works appropriately it
includes form and variable structures which are not dependent on some individuals but rather are
a part of the structure where by the workers are strongly committed and responsibility areas are
planned carried out and develop together.
Education changes the outlook and traditional approach towards personal social
and economical problems. It sharpens the skill and knowledge of the individual and makes them
perfect according to their need. It also motivates to adopt new pattern in order to remain dynamic
and forward looking. Education fulfills the need of individual and propagates such ideas which
promote changes in all fields of life. In this way education becomes a social process by means of
which society most the individual according to the need and welfare of for society and
development of nation. Education provides necessary training skills in occupations and produces
the needed competent personnel for managing the different job in modern industry, business,
educational and research establishment and other secondary association.
1.1.5 Concept of Teaching Aptitude :
Carroll (1981) defines general aptitude as “capability of learning a task, which depends on some
combination of more or less enduring characteristics of the learner.”
In general words attitude is the ability, capability or talent of a person either inner
or outer or both to perform any work or duty. it is directly related to the mind and the creativity
that person use while doing any task. Aptitude is a natural ability to do something, a natural
tendency. Aptitude refers to those qualities characterizing a person’s way of behaviour which
serve to indicate how well he can learn to meet and solve certain specified kinds of problems.
Bingham: it is a specific capacity or special ability indicative of one’s probable success in a
relevant field after getting proper opportunity for learning or training.
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
19
Some specific abilities are necessary for gaining success in personal activities.
these abilities help and individual to acquire required degree of proficiency or achieve success in
a specific field is called “aptitude”. The word attitude is derived from the word “Aptos” which
means fitted for. The term refers to a natural or acquired the capacity or ability specially a
tendency or inclination to learn or understand (Webster's Medical Dictionary, 2002). Dictionary
in English( 2011) enumerated that is in aptitude means probability of success in teaching.
Whereas Kumar (2012) considered the teaching aptitude means and interest in the teaching work
orientation, implementing teaching principles and methods. Kaur (2014) described teaching
aptitude as a specific capacity or special ability distinct from the general intellectual ability of an
individual indicative of his probable success in a particular field after receiving appropriate
opportunity for learning or training. Bingham (1937) defines aptitude as a condition of set of
characteristics regarded as a sympathetic of an individual’s ability to acquire responses. He refers
aptitude to those qualities characterizing a person’s way of behaviour which served to indicate
how well he can learn to meet and solve a certain specific kinds of problem. Spearman (1927)
opined aptitude is the potential ability of an individual that promises future fruition into
perfection. Traxler (1957) viewed aptitude is a present condition which is indicated of an
individual potentialities for the future.
Aptitude is an innate, acquired, learned or developed component of
competency to a certain kind of work at a certain level. the teaching aptitude of for teacher may
also affect the job satisfaction and his responsibilities towards academic activities. A variety of
factors seems to go along with teachers aptitude and is depended upon certain personal traits,
intellectual and temperamental and these often will enable the teacher to get over even drastic
constraints imposed on his performance.
Aptitude is described as a specific ability or a specific capacity from the
general intellectual ability which helps as individual to acquire degree of proficiency or
achievement in a specific field. Aptitude has been defined in a number of ways. Freeman defined
aptitude as a combination of characteristics indicator of an individual’s capacity to acquire some
specific knowledge, skill of set of organized responses. Thus aptitude for teaching is a condition
or set of characteristics including knowledge understanding and attitude regarded as indicated of
individuals ability to require with training abilities for teaching work (Dahiya and Singh).
Aptitude means natural ability to do something. According to Bingham: “teaching
aptitude defined as a condition or set of characteristics regarded as symptomatic in his readiness
to acquire proficiency his potential ability and another in his readiness to development and
interest in exercising his ability.” So that it can be said that teaching aptitude is a specific ability,
potentiality, interest, satisfaction and fitness in teaching profession.
Aptitude is considered to be an important characteristics of an individual which can
predict the future. Success or failure of an individual in one occupation or areas of occupations.
Aptitude may be described as a specific ability or a specific capacity distinct from the general
intellectual ability which helps an individual to acquire degree of proficiency or achievement in a
specific field. Jones was of the view that aptitude is more than potential ability or ability
expectancy. It employees fitness for job because its success expectancy. Basically it includes
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
20
intelligence ability of various kinds and personality factors necessary for success. It is a
combination of these “ it refers to those qualities characterizing a person’s way of behaviour
which serve to indicate how well he can learn to meet and solve a certain specified kind of
problems” (Bingham 1937). Traxler(1957) “aptitude is a condition a quality or a set of qualities
in an individual which is indicated of the probable extent to which he will be able to acquire
under suitable training, some knowledge, skill or composite of knowledge, understanding and
skills such as ability to contribute to art or music, mechanical ability, mathematical ability or
ability to read and speak a foreign language.” Freeman (1971), an aptitude is a combination of
characteristics indicated of an individual's capacity to acquire with training some specific
knowledge skill or set of organized responses such as the ability to speak a language, to become
a musician, to do mechanical work.” In this way by taking note of one’s present abilities and
capacities we may come to know that one has an aptitude for learning and becoming successful
in a particular area. While concluding we may observe that while one has mechanical aptitude
others may have musical, scientific, legal, medical and other professionals scholastic or artistic
attitudes. There may be commonalities with regard to the processing of one or the other type i.e. ;
a group of students seeking admission to a particular course of instruction of professional study
may be found to have a high degree of aptitude for that course or profession within themselves
we may find a distinct range of diversities and variations when we take notice of the evaluation
records of the aptitude tests. Some of them may be found to have very high attitude compared to
average or low aptitude possessed by others. Similarly we may also find that many of them do
well in a particular aptitude test they show a little or almost no aptitude for other subjects
activities or areas that is why it has been observed that while one gets success after entering and
getting required training in one area the other does make a little or no progress. It is therefore
essential that we must pay due regard to the aptitude possessed by them for guiding them about
their educational and vocational choices. It will automatically help in guiding the possible failure
or disaster by placing the pegs into square holes and square pegs into round holes.
Aptitude tests measure ability to succeed in a particular kind of training.
Scholastic aptitude test measure ability to succeed in college or school. Vocational aptitude test
measure the likelihood of success in vocational training or in an occupation. For constructing and
aptitude tests in music for example one has to consider the factors which enter into good musical
performance like ability to remember between differences in pitch, rhythm, pattern, intensity etc.
Present level of achievement in these task must provide a predictive index. Someone who has the
aptitude to do clerical work has the prerequisite skills in manual dexterity, attention to detail and
speed with repetitive tasks to complete many types of clerical work effectively and efficiently. In
most walks of life past performance is the best predictor of future performance in the same realm
of activity.
The effectiveness of education depends upon quantity of teachers working in an
institution. The quality of teachers in turn depends upon the quality of training received by them
in different training institutions. As we know the quantitative and qualitative improvement of
elementary and secondary education has raised problems of solution of right type of teachers and
enriching programs of teacher preparation. Thus, necessitates not only improving the knowledge
of teaching competency of a teacher but also to inculcate in them desirable teacher like qualities.
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
21
We know the teaching profession is one of the most important art of guiding students through a
variety of selected teaching methods and methodologies it should therefore attract the brightest
minds, finest personality and most committed the young people. As a profession it requires
people who have right type of aptitude and attitude for teaching in bound to be a successful
teacher in future. As a teacher we should enrich ourselves with different teaching methodologies
in order to change the behaviour of learners keeping in view their individual differences.
1.1.6 Tribal Education in India :
The aboriginal tribes of India are the oldest inhabitants of the country. For millennia tribal
societies have been subjugated by more recently arrived groups, their land was taken away, they
were pushed further into the hilly gorges and wilds and they were forced to work for their
oppressors as often without payment. Today tribal groups which number more than 40 million,
requires special attention from the government even the their lives largely isolated from the
national culture.
In the past many tribal groups were forced to assimilate into the dominant culture of
the country. But some groups such as Bhils, Gonds, Santhals, Oraons, Mundas, Khonds, Mizos,
Nagas and Khasis resisted change and assimilation to maintain their cultural identities and
languages. According to many Indians their continued isolation poses problem to national
integration. Under the banner of national unity the government is now bringing these minority
groups into the national mainstream.
Government planners see education as indispensable for helping tribal people cope with
national integration. Education will also determine their prosperity, success and security in life.
The tribes which remain either deprived of or negligent towards education will suffer the
consequence.
Compared with the literacy rates of 29.34% for the general population literacy among
tribal peoples in India is at most 6%. The union and the state governments have spent
considerable sums of money for tribal use education but the result aa meagre. The commissioner
for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes asserts that unless exploitation among the tribals is
combated and eliminated through education no improvement in tribal welfare will occur. Within
tribal areas education can be the basis for integrated development.
Government reports indicate that there is no scarcity of schools are the facilities or
scholarships for the implementation of tribal education schemes. Among the various important
factors of tribal education that influence integration into the national mainstream of life are the
students and their teachers. Tribal students have different background from their non tribal
School math’s and even the teachers who are normally outsiders do not understand the tribal
students. To the teachers tribal students appeared and tidy reinforcing their biases against tribals.
These biases are expressed in various forms of discrimination.
M.Ed (2019 – 21)

1.2 Need and Importance of the Study
Educational research aims at improving educational procedure through the refinement and
extension of knowledge. Each research in education is undertaken to improve the existing
educational process.
Education is an important instrument in bringing out potentialities of human
beings while effectiveness of a system of education is mainly dependent upon its teachers. That
is why among all the dimensions of education teacher education is considered to be the most
crucial. Teacher education programme is intimately related to the society and is conditioned by
ethos, culture and character of the nation. The revitalization as strengthening of the teacher
education system is there for a powerful means for the upliftment of educational studies in the
country. Out of so many teacher training programs for different stages the secondary teacher
education program is considered as a vital one. There is always need to evaluate the efforts
which are being made by the training institutions to achieve the desired goal. It is highly
recognized that the attitude of teacher contribute a lot for successful teaching.
Teaching is not a mechanical job. it is social and professional activity and
development process. It requires skills like any other skills. It calls for exercise of talent,
creativity and love for knowledge, patience and dedication towards job. Out of so many teacher
training programs for different stages the secondary teacher education program is considered as
a vital one. Teachers education institutions are catalyst to provide a comprehensive platform for
the growth and development of student teachers. Improvement of teachers efficiency is a means
to enhance the quality of teacher education. the factors that are inherited and acquired need to be
identified and empowered for making the teacher powerful and effective. The quality of teachers
depend upon number of factors such as - achievement in different subject areas, attitude towards
teaching, teaching aptitude, interest in teaching etc. All these are equally important for a teacher
in the teaching learning process. Sometimes someone gets the opportunity to serve as a teacher
on the basis of their good academic records without having positive attitude towards the
profession and teaching aptitude. Teaching is an art and the quality of teaching depends on the
love, dedication and devotion of the teachers towards the subject of the knowledge. Teachers
who are generally unenthusiastic about the teaching profession ( having negative job orientation)
then they were more stressed about their teaching situation than the teachers who were
enthusiastic. Thus for the professional growth of the teachers and improvement in education the
attitude and aptitude causes by them are very important.
Tribal society is far behind in education and in raising their social and economic status
and thus integrating them in the so-called men dominated world of today. The large majority of
population in tribal areas is backward due to the correlation and least adoption of educational
technology. The Government of India has launched a number of schemes for the promotion of
education and welfare among the tribes. Thus this study was conducted with the object to know
the level of teaching aptitude of tribal student teachers continuing their Bachelor of Education
program in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand).

1.3 Statement of the Problem
“A Study of Teaching Aptitude of Prospective Teachers.”
1.4 Operational Definition of the key terms used
1) Teaching Aptitude – Freeman defined Aptitude as “a combination of characteristics
indicated of an individual capacity to acquire (with training) some specific knowledge, skill or
set of organized responses such as the ability to speak a language, to become a musician, to do
mechanical work.” In the proposed study aptitude means the scores obtained by the B.Ed.
students in Aptitude Scale. The B.Ed. student who secured highest score in the scale will be
assumed as having satisfactory teaching aaaptitude.
2) B.Ed. – Bachelor of education is a graduate professional degree which prepare students for
work as a teacher in schools.
1.5 Objectives of the Study
The study will have the following objectives :

1.7 Delimitations of the Study
The researcher has delimit her research work in respect of scope and level of which the study is
ultimately conducted. Because in a time bonded research like the present one it is not possible
for a researcher to achieve his or her goals of the study due to various constraints related to the
content and limited resources like time, finance etc. Extensive research is always desirable but
due to time and resource constraints the study will be delimited to :
● Teacher education colleges of East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand only.B.Ed. students.

2.1 Introduction
Teaching aptitude play significant role in developing professionalism in teachers. A teacher with
good teaching aptitude must be aware of the following essentials of teaching viz., plan a lesson,
motivate students, curricular statements related learning materials, teaching learning strategies,
essentials of the content, consolidation, elaborations , group activity, continuous and
comprehensive evaluation discipline, multilevel and multigrade activities, effective
communication and interaction etc. According to teacher trainee teaching aptitude is very
beneficial. It helps to understand the aptitude of teacher trainee. Aptitude is to be distinguished
from present ability. A certain trainee may not at present have the ability to teach perfectly but if
she possesses a high degree of aptitude for teaching profession and gains proper training she can
become a very good teacher. So it is helpful to knowing our aptitude level. A teacher presents the
past, reveals the present and creates the future.
2.2 Reviews related to Teaching Aptitude
Perveen ( 2006) in her study revealed that Discipline and Sex of the people teachers
does not contribute towards teaching aptitude of male and female arts pupil teachers were
compared, it was observed that female arts pupil teachers secured significantly higher means
scores than there counterpart male arts pupil teachers. It was found that teaching aptitude of the
pupil teacher was significantly correlated with their general teaching competence, professional
interest and academic achievements. General teaching competence and professional interest of
the pupil teachers significantly affect their teaching aptitude. In addition to this effect of
academic achievement on teaching aptitude of the pupil teachers was positive but not significant
at acceptable level of confidence.
Uaha (2010) in her study revealed that there was a significant difference between teaching
aptitude of effective and ineffective male and female teachers. By reviewing 5th and 6th
Surveys of Educational Research it is found that very few researches related to teaching aptitude
of higher secondary teachers have been carried out in India and most of them are based on
HSST's. Teaching competency their attitude towards teaching profession and their professional
aptitude.
Joshi (2003) has studied teaching aptitude of HSST and revealed that sex does not have any
impact on teaching aptitude of HSST. Moreover he concluded that teacher trainees have low
socioeconomic status had been superior than their counterparts as far as their teaching aptitude is
concerned.
Lodhe (2003) has found that there is no significant correlation between teaching aptitude and of
the teachers and there is significant difference between teaching aptitude of male and female
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
27
teacher trainees that goes in favor of female teacher trainees. On the other side Singh (2004)
have mentioned that gender plays an effective role as male pupil teachers have shown
significant attainment in teaching competency as compared to their female counterparts.
Kushwaha (2002 ) have concluded that female science teachers had been better than others in
terms of teaching aptitude and there is a definite positive correlation between teaching efficiency
and teaching aptitude.
Chahar (2005) concluded that teaching aptitude of female teacher trainees is more positive than
that of male teacher trainees overall and in the context of their subjects as a same result is found
in science group and arts groups.
Study was conducted to study the teaching aptitude of elementary and secondary
teacher educators of Kashmir division. The sample for the present study was 300 including 150
elementary teacher educators and 150 secondary teacher educators. It was found that elementary
teacher educator's have been more teaching aptitude as compared to secondary teacher educators
on total score of teaching Aptitude test battery. Among the eight dimensions six dimensions were
showing significant difference on teaching aptitude of elementary and secondary teacher
educators.
Harmeet Kaur (2005) it was found that the results were more or less
similar. It was found that there is some significant differences in the teaching competency and in
teacher competency in teacher trainees.
But Yeh (2007) in a study suggested that pre service teachers with high levels of intra personal
intelligence as well as those which judicial thinking styles are mindful, analytical and reflective
in their teaching practices and therefore more likely to continually improve their skills in
teaching aptitude. The teaching aptitude of all the first year B.Ed. students was found to be at an
average level. The teaching aptitude of the teacher can be increased through continuous training
and hard working. The training of a teacher is a never ending process.
Mrs. Harmeet Kaur (1991) have concluded that there is
no significant difference in teaching aptitude with respect to gender and stream. We are now a
part of equalitarian society where all without any consideration to sex have equal rights to
nurture their talents so result can be viewed by their non significant result on aptitude tests.
secondly all streams include curriculum to develop the level of students in all aspects at utmost.
So stream shows no significant difference in level of achievement in aptitude test.
On the other side Singh K (2015) have mentioned that
the male and female teacher trainees do not differ significantly on the teaching aptitude while the
teaching aptitude of arts and science B.Ed. teacher trainees differ significantly.
Hare Krushna Path, Dr. Benjongkumba concluded
that it is pertinent to mention here that quality in teacher education is not an independent
phenomenon. It is influenced by a number of factors like teaching aptitude attitude towards
teaching profession and values components of student teachers. Quality can never be maintained
and improved unless capable teachers with the higher and above average people are chosen for

this profession. The entry-level entrance test must be so designed to scout talents for teaching
profession. This small study is an indicator of the teaching aptitude of student teachers of Orissa
where a single student teacher could qualify for hi teaching aptitude level. The study revealed the
fact that the attitude is both inborn and acquired hence the government must think of the
modalities for enhancing the level of teaching aptitude of the student teachers as it is one of the
very important characteristics of good teacher.
Sajan (2010) conducted a study on teaching aptitude of student
teachers and their academic achievement at graduate level over the teacher education institute of
Malabar area of Kerala to measure the teaching aptitude of student teachers in general and with
respect to five different dimensions. The finding of study concluded that the teaching aptitude
reveals that the highest scoring dimension is the professional information and the least score in
one is the professional interest.
Abdullah (2010) conducted a study on academic achievements, teaching aptitude and the
personality traits as the protectors of success in elementary teacher training and to study the
teaching aptitude in protecting success in terms of achievement teacher educator rating and
school teacher rating. The finding of study concluded that the teacher aptitude is found to have
significant positive correlation with all the parameters of success and various studies conducted
in relationship between teacher aptitude and teacher performance have also shown the same.

Methodology of the Study
3.1 Introduction
Methodology is the systematic theoretical analysis of methods applied to a field of study. It is the
general research strategy that outlines the way in which the search is to be undertaken and
among other things to be identify the methods to be used in it. These methods described in the
mythology define the means or mode of data collection or sometimes have a specific result is to
be calculated. Methodology does not define specific methods even though much attention is to
be given to the nature and kinds of processes to be followed.
Research methodology implies the process of reaching a
reliable solution to a problem. In this content research methodology is the planned structure and
strategy of investigation conceived so as to assess the attitude towards the program descriptive
survey method was used for the study.
3.2 Design of the Study
The research design is the detailed plan of the investigation. In fact it is a blueprint of the
detailed procedures of testing the hypothesis and analyzing the obtained data. The Research
Design thus, may be defined as a sequence of those steps taken ahead of time to ensure that the
relevant data will be collected in a way that permits objective analysis of the different hypothesis
formulated with respect to research problems. Thus, the Research Design help the researcher in
testing the hypothesis by reaching valid and objective conclusions regarding the relationship
between independent and dependent variables. The selection of any Research Design is based
upon the purpose of the investigation types of variable and the conditions in which the research
is to be conducted. The present study is a descriptive research, survey method will be adopted
for the study.
3.3 Variables
Variables may be defined as those attributes of objects, events, things and beings which can be
measured. In other words, variables are the characteristics of conditions that are manipulated,
controlled or observed by the experimenter. For example intelligence, anxiety, aptitude, income,
education, achievement etc.
Variables are of four types :
1) Independent variable
2) Dependent variables
3) Intervening variables
Extraneous variables
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
31
Independent Variable
The independent variable is one which is manipulated, measured and selected by the
experimenter for the purpose of producing observable changes in the behavioral measure. In
other words the independent variable is the variable on the basis of which the production about
the dependent variable is made. They are of two types:
1) active independent variables
2) Attribute independent variable
In the present study “A Study of Teaching Aptitude of Prospective Teacherss”, Prospective
Teachers are considered as the independent variable.
Dependent Variable
This is the variable that is affected by the independent variable. It is one about which the
experimenter makes a prediction. Dependent variables are basically conditions or characteristics
that appears, disappears or changes as experimental introduces, removes or changes independent
variable. It represents the consequence of change in the person of situations studies.
In the present study Aptitude of Prospective teachers is considered as dependent variable.
3.4 Population and Sample of the Study
3.3.1 Population
A research population is generally a large collection of individuals objects that is the main focus
of a scientific query. RSS population is also known as a well-defined collection of individuals
objects known to have similar characteristics common binding characteristics or trait.
In the present study the Prospective teachers of Jamshedpur is considered as the population
of the study.
3.3.2 Sample
A sample is simply a subset of the population. The concept of sample arises from the inability of
the researches to test all the individuals in a given population. the sample was with the true
representative of the population from which it is drawn and it must have good size to administer
statistical analysis. the population “gives” the sample and then it “ takes” conclusions from the
result obtained from the sample.
Hence in the present study, the sample is of around 100 prospective teachers out of which 40 to
50 students are selected from teacher education colleges of East singhbhum, Jamshedpur only
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
32
3.3.3 Sampling Technique
Purposive sampling technique has been used in the selection of the sample. 40 to 50 prospective
teachers has been selected from B.Ed colleges only.
3.5 Tools used for Data Collection
Dahiya and Singh Teaching Aptitude test (DSTAT)constructed and standardized by Dr. Surinder
S. Dahiya and Dr. LC Singh 2004 has been adopted by the researcher to collect data.
It has been designed to measure the potentiality of a graduate person who intends to
take up our teaching profession at the secondary or senior secondary School stage. Does this test
comes under Teaching Aptitude Test (TAT). It is a self administering verbal group test. The
questioner consists of 20 test items of multiple choice types each item has four alternative
answers- A,B,C,D. The score from the test is useful for the selection of candidates for admission
to teacher education colleges. It could be used as one of the test for the entrance examination.
3.6 Scoring
The questionnaire contains 20 multiple choice questions. Each correct answer as per the answer
key is given one point score. There is no negative marking for the scoring the test. The maximum
score one can obtain is 20. The scoring is done by the answer key given in the manual and find
out the total score. This RAW score is converted to standard score as given in the manual of the
test and based on the Standard Score the level of the Teaching Aptitude is found with the help of
the table given in the manual.
3.7 Administration of the Tools
A survey was conducted on the following instructions were given to the subject before
the administration of the test :
● The aim of the test was explain briefly to the subjects.
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
33
● The subjects were allowed to read the instructions given on the top of the page of the
test carefully.
● There is no time limit for the test.
● The questionnaire contained 20 multiple choice questions. Each item was followed by
four alternative answers. Each one had to select the most appropriate answer out of the
4 answers.
The subjects to 30 minutes for completing their answers. The score and
analysis was done by using the manual of the given test.

CHAPTER 4
Analysis and Interpretation of Data
4.1 Introduction
Research is characterized by the care taken in the analysis and interpretation of data. It includes
the selection of appropriate statistical techniques to be used for processing the data collected for
the study. Statistical techniques have contributed greatly in gathering organizing analyzing and
interpreting numerical data. The process of interpretation is essential one of stating what the
results show. It calls for a careful logical and critical examination of the results obtained after
analysis. Analysis of data means studying the organized material in order to discover inherent
facts. Data analysis is considered being an important step and heart of the research in the
research work. The data are study from as many angles as possible to explore the new facts.
Analysis requires an alert, flexible and open mind. After collection of data with the help of
relevant tools and techniques the next logical step is to analyze and interpret data with a view to
arriving at empirical solution to the problems. The data analysis for the present study was done
quantitatively with the help of both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The descriptive
statistics statistical techniques like mean standard deviation and for the inferential statistics t-
tests were used during data analysis.

Summary, Major Findings, Educational Implications and Conclusion
5.1 Introduction
This chapter includes description of major findings, discussions, theoretical and practical
educational implications of the findings and recommendations for future research or future
action. In this section a researcher is free to discuss any possible revision and addition to
existing theory and encourage studies design to test hypothesis suggested by results. The
Researcher may also discuss the implication of findings for educational practical practices and
suggest studies that can be replicated in other settings. The researcher may also suggest for the
study is to be designed for investing different dimensions of the problem investigated. This
chapter summarizes the total study which has been chapterized from 1 to 4 . The important
aspects are required to covered in this chapter.
5.2 Background of the Study
Education prepares the future generation of a nation with teachers play the most vital role in this
process. Education Commission (1964- 66) says “of all different factors which influence the
quality of education and his contribution to National development, the quality, competence and
character of teachers are undoubtedly the most significant.” According to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam ( 2015) “A good teacher can eliminate the weakness of our education.” An efficient
teacher alone can provide qualitative education the delivery of quality education is possible only
through quality teachers. The success of students is a testimony to the great service of teacher.
Aptitude is an innate, acquired, learned or developed component of competency to a certain kind
of work at certain level. The teaching aptitude of a teacher may also affect the job satisfaction
and his responsibilities towards academic activities. A variety of factors seems to go along with
features attitude and is depend upon certain personal traits intellectual and temperamental and
these often will enable the teacher to get over even drastic constraints in pores on his
performance. There are so many factors which have dominant roles on teacher’s aptitude. Tribals
are known to be the autochthonous people of land. Tribals are often referred to adivasi, vanvasi,
Pahari, adimjaati, anusuchit janjati, etc. India has a second largest tribal population in the world
the first being Africa. The tribal people have rich traditions culture and heritage with unique
lifestyle and customs. The scheduled tribe population represents one of the most economically
impoverished and marginalized groups in India. Education is an important revenue for upgrading
the economic and social conditions of the scheduled tribes. Education is in fact, and input not
only for economic development of tribes but also for the inner strength of the tribal communities
which helps them in meeting the challenges of life.

5.3 Rationale of the Study
The characteristics of the teacher as yardsticks to measure the achievement and aspirations of
the nation have been considered as an important factor in this research. The potentiality of a
country can be evaluated by the work of a teacher. They are the real nation builders. The
teachers inculcate right conduct, right thought in the students by their active association and
classroom participation. Teacher performance, teacher competence and teacher effectiveness are
all interlinked and influenced by other characteristics of a teacher such as teaching aptitude,
attitude towards teaching profession and value pattern etc. The success in teaching a satisfactory
preparation of teaching profession is only possible you have remarkable aptitude in teaching.
There are number of research studies conducted in the area of teaching aptitude of teachers.
Teaching aptitude is compared with respect to age, experience, facility, gender, different levels
and categories of teachers etc. It is also correlated with success of teaching, teaching learning
process, teacher commitment, teacher effectiveness, intelligence, academic achievement,
personality etc. does this study was conducted with the object to know the level of teaching
aptitude of prospective teachers continuing their Bachelor of Education program in
Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
5.4 Statement of the Problem
The statement of the present study was stated as “A Study of Teaching Aptitude of Prospective
Teachers.”

permission of the heads of the institutions. The Dahiya and Singh Teaching Aptitude Test
(DSTAT) will be administered to the prospective students with proper instructions.
5.6.5 Analysis and Interpretation of Data
In the present study analysis and interpretation of the collected data was done quantitatively with
the help of both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics like mean, standard deviation and t-
test.
5.7 Major Findings
On the basis of the analysis of the obtained data the investigator of the present study arrived at
the following findings :
1) Teaching aptitude of Jamshedpur prospective teachers is positive.
2) There does not exist significant difference in the teaching aptitude of male and
female prospective teachers.
3) Teaching aptitude does not differ significantly in case of government and private
institution prospective teachers.
4) Teaching aptitude does not differ significantly in case of rural and urban areas
prospective teachers.
5) Teaching aptitude does not differ significantly in case of of tribal and non tribal
prospective teachers.
5.8 Educational Implication
The quality of education depends on the quality of teachers. Inter the quality of teachers
depends upon the quality of teacher education. The quality of teacher education also depends on
many factors out of which teaching aptitude is minutely studied in this study and vividly

narrated. The quality in teacher education is a matter of priority. Teaching is a royal road for
learning. It is a profession where teachers are not born but also made. Students having positive
attitude with appropriate value can fulfill the aspirations of the nation.
The study and it’s finding will be helpful in many ways :
Teachers
M.Ed (2019 – 21)
50
The process of teaching to be conducted effectively depends upon effective teachers. non
development of new technology can revolutionize the classroom teaching and less capable
and committed teachers are there in teaching profession. The quality of education depends on
the quality of teachers. Intern the quality of teachers depends upon the quality of teacher
education. Workshop should be organized for the B.Ed. teacher trainees so that their aptitude
for teaching can be enhanced. Teacher with teaching aptitude encourages students to use
active technique to create more knowledge and then to reflect on and talk about what they are
doing and how their understanding our changing.
Students
In order to minimize the differences adequate provision and changes in the curricula should
be made. More emphasis should be given on practical work to enhance teacher trainees
aptitude for teaching. The duration of the teaching practice need to be increased to enhance
their aptitude for teaching. groups of them should be arranged according to the stream so that
guidance should be provided to them according to stream. Seminar should be organized time
to time to inculcate new ideas in them which leads to develop the teaching aptitude. Different
type of activities and competitions should be organized time to time to enhance the teaching
aptitude of B.Ed. teacher trainees.
School Administrator
The school administrator act as a link between the students, teacher and society. The need of
the present society is to have citizens of high level thinking, capability and this ability can be
achieved with the help of able teachers who is good in communicating classroom
instructions, who is able to learn as well as required skills of teaching, has knowledge of
psychology of children, different methods of teaching etc. it is in the hand of school
administrator to select capable and committed teachers for their school, as the effectiveness
of the education system in any country mostly depends upon the quality of teachers. The
quality of teachers depend upon number of factors such as achievement in different subject
areas attitudes towards teaching, teaching aptitude, interest in teaching etc.
5.9 Recommendations
● There should be organization of seminars and workshops for the
professional development of tribal teachers.
● Tribal teachers should be given proper in-service training of the maximum use of ICT.
● In order to improve the teaching competency of the tribal teachers proper attention
should be given to the infrastructure.

5.10 Conclusion
Teaching is considered as the noblest of all professions. The teacher education institutions
are the place where the prospective teachers are educated and their standard is improved. The
teacher can bring about substantial changes in the society. As such it is quite essential to
prepare a vast group of competent teachers for the nation. It is pertinent to mention here that
quality in teacher education is not an independent phenomenon. It is influenced by a number
of factors like teaching aptitude, attitude towards teaching profession and values,
components of student teachers. Quality can never be maintained and improved unless
capable teachers with the high and above average people are chosen for this profession. The
entry level entrance test must be so designed to scout talents for teaching profession. This
small study is an indicator of the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers of East
Singhbhum where a single prospective B.Ed. teacher could qualify for high teaching
aptitude level. Education is an important avenue for upgrading the economic development of

The term education, teaching and learning are closely related. The objective of education is learning not teaching. Teaching is the way to make students learn but then it is not the only way. Education is the key to everything that is good in our world today. Education is not only about the past and present but it is also the key to the future. Education not only teachers are children facts but also teaches them how to think and learn on their own.
  • 16. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 15 Swami Vivekananda defines education is the manifestation of perfection already in man. Aristotle define education as a creation of a sound mind in a sound body. John Dewey defines education as a power by which man is able to control his environment and fulfill his possibilities. According to Frobel, Education is a process by which the child develops its inner potential in a manner so as to participate meaning fully in the external environment. The purpose of education is to expand the life of the individual in order to participate in its all prevailing spirit which manifests and realizes itself in and though the whole universe. 1.1.2 Teaching Concept ‘Educationists should build the capacities of the spirit of enquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and moral leadership among students and become their role model.’ -Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam These words reflect the whole idea of what it means to be a teacher. The progress and prosperity of a nation depends upon the development of its human resources. For this purpose we need highly competent teachers. Teaching is all about evaluating candidates who want to enter teaching profession on the basis of their knowledge and skills. The first two basic qualities required to become a successful teacher. This includes qualification, intelligence, attitude and many other qualities accepted from a person who wants to become a successful teacher. Teaching can be defined in the following ways: ● Teaching is a purposeful direction and management of the learning process. ● Teaching is a process of providing opportunities for students to produce relative Lee permanent change through engagement in next variances provided by the teachers. ● Teaching is a skillful application of knowledge, experience and scientific principles with an objective to setup an environment to facilitate learning. ● Teaching is a planned activity and effective teaching depends on the following factors: a) How clearly the students understand what they are expected to learn. b) How accurately the learning can be measured. ● Teaching is a process in which the learner teacher and other variables are organized in a systematic way to obtain some pre-determined goals. ● Teaching is an activity that influences a child to learn and acquire desired knowledge and skills and also their desired ways of living in the society. Teaching is one of the most challenging jobs in our society. Teachers play the role of producing knowledgeable students with good personality. Quality teacher should have good teaching skills in order to make his teaching effective. Aptitude on the other hand may be described as a special ability or specific capacity distinct from the general intellectual ability which helps an individual to acquire the required degree of proficiency for a student in a specific field. aptitude refers to those qualities characterizing a person's way of behavior which serve to indicate how when he can learn to meet and solve a certain specified kinds of problem.
  • 17. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 16 1.1.3 What is Teaching Teaching is one of the instrument of education and its special function is to impart understanding and skill. The main function of teaching is to make learning effective. The learning process would get completed as a result of teaching. So teaching and learning are very closely related. Teaching is a process in which one individual teachers or instruct another individual. teaching is considered as the act of imparting instructions to the learners in the classroom situation. Dewey considers it as a manipulation of the situation, where the learner will acquire skills and insight with his own initiation. teaching is a social and cultural process which is planned in order to enable and individual to learn something in his life. Teaching is an interactive process between the student and the teaching sources which is essential for the guidance, progress and development of students. Concept of Teaching “The chief task of education is above all to shape man, or to guide the evolving dynamism through which man forms himself as a man.” Traditional concept - Teaching is the act of imparting instructions to the learners in the classroom situation. In traditional classroom teaching the teacher gives information to students or one of the students reads from a textbook while the other students silently follow him in their not merely imparting knowledge or information to students. While important knowledge teacher should keep in mind the child as well as the orderly presentation of subject matter. Modern concept – Teaching is to cause the people to learn and requires a desired knowledge, skills and also desirable ways of living in the society. It is a process in which learner, teacher, curriculum and other variables are organized in a systematic and psychological way to obtain some predetermined goals. 1.1.4 Role of Teachers : India is a country which has one of the oldest civilization all over the world. Epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata are considered as the oldest of all. Yajurveda, Rigveda and Samveda that reflect the genius of Hindu culture. These all literature could have been preserved in India because of the efforts of Rishis and Gurus initially and great Rajguru’s and teachers later on. The history of India that is reflected in ‘Discovery of India' written by Nehru says that since civilization took place in this great country gurus and teachers like Drona, Vashishtha, Sandipani, Vishwamitra, Parshurama, Chanakya Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Guru Nanak and so many others have contributed beyond our imagination not only in preserving our culture but also in imparting education and making the Hindustan proud of some of their shisyas like Arjuna, Rama, Krishna, Eklavya, Karna, Chandragupta ,Guru Govind Singh, Shivaji and Swami Vivekananda, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, whom Gandhiji respected as his political Guru inspired him to work for the freedom of India and he made history by making India be independent country using a weapon of non- violence. After independence Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan has
  • 18. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 17 been given owner as great teacher by declaring his birthday, 5th September to be celebrated as a Teachers day all over the country. These all gurus and teachers have affected the thoughts and lifestyle of our society at remarkable degree. That is why in our country child is told blindly to capitulate oneself to the teachers so that one can develop and apply ones own abilities and increase power to be a good, responsible and self dependent citizen who will live not only for once better life but also for the betterment of family, society, country and ultimately for universe. So the role of teacher becomes vital in all round development of the students. The teacher place many roles counselor, member of the achievement group an individual or a specialist in the field of educational art. Children learn differently some learn easily just listening to the guidelines, some find it easier just to be an observer watching the teacher and trying to reproduce afterwards. A teacher should have an exceptional and creative personality which means that he/she should have the ability to react to feedback from the children as well as to be pioneering in his/her creation of solutions for the diverse number of issues that take place. This also requires academic skills which a lot expanding situations so that children have new possibilities for problem solving through inspired and innovative solutions. the teacher must give confidence to children's learning skills through his/her on example. In all situations that teachers should maintain and affectionate and loving approach to children and their feelings. He/she must know the area of teaching and also recognize his/her on values which in turn lead to his/her achievement and solutions. He/she should be able to justify the methods of providing education so that to motivate the children. Succeeding in corporation requires a common structure for the action which device responsibilities like shared planning cooperative realization and negotiation and decision making. Learner- learned cooperation offers an opportunity to cross professional limits. Common work requires the attitude to make compromises and avoid competitive positions. It was believed earlier that teachers are born but now teachers are made in teacher training institutes. In this circumstance question arises that whether the modern teacher can perform his duty as effective as our Rishis, Gurus and great teachers used to. The answer is unanimously will be ‘Yes' if the teacher has professional as well as teaching aptitude. If a person has such aptitude he can be trained to be an effective and successful teacher who can make his/ her students extract all their abilities for the development of society, country and World along with their own development. Development of teaching skills depends on the teaching aptitude of the teachers. A teacher should not only be competent in his subject, teaching methods, understanding the learner but also has a favorable attitude as well as attitude towards teaching profession and should have interest in teaching. Teaching is a noble profession. In education teacher facilitate student learning of fun in a school or academy or perhaps in another in women such as out doors. In order to benefit the teachers to their roles a sound professional training is needed and with adequate knowledge and skills to perform their professional functions. Teachers play a vital roles in the lives of the students in their classrooms. Teachers are best known for the role of educating the students that are placed in their care. Beyond that teachers serve many other roles in the classroom. Teachers set the tone of their
  • 19. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 18 classrooms build a warm environment mentor and nurture students become role models and listen and look for signs of trouble. The teacher is a very important person in the field of education. Upon his shoulders organization of education is based. His scholarship, conduct and behaviour have a permanent effect on the students because the student usually imitates his teacher. For young children he is the ideal. It is necessary for the teacher to be intelligent, polite nature and expert in his subject. Teacher is the main pillar in the practice of education. If he is competent, honest achiever and confident than we can be guaranteed of the nation’s future. Success requires professionalism and expertise in the field of action but first of all a strong professional identity which makes it possible to give and take mutual know- how. the essential features are: sharing, companionship, mutual dependence and mutual use of power. Building cooperation frequently involves at least the following stages: agreement on the procedure and contents of the activity internalisation of the aims of the action. At its best it may develop from an official and occasional cooperation to a regular communication where discussion and exchange of information become possible. When it works appropriately it includes form and variable structures which are not dependent on some individuals but rather are a part of the structure where by the workers are strongly committed and responsibility areas are planned carried out and develop together. Education changes the outlook and traditional approach towards personal social and economical problems. It sharpens the skill and knowledge of the individual and makes them perfect according to their need. It also motivates to adopt new pattern in order to remain dynamic and forward looking. Education fulfills the need of individual and propagates such ideas which promote changes in all fields of life. In this way education becomes a social process by means of which society most the individual according to the need and welfare of for society and development of nation. Education provides necessary training skills in occupations and produces the needed competent personnel for managing the different job in modern industry, business, educational and research establishment and other secondary association. 1.1.5 Concept of Teaching Aptitude : Carroll (1981) defines general aptitude as “capability of learning a task, which depends on some combination of more or less enduring characteristics of the learner.” In general words attitude is the ability, capability or talent of a person either inner or outer or both to perform any work or duty. it is directly related to the mind and the creativity that person use while doing any task. Aptitude is a natural ability to do something, a natural tendency. Aptitude refers to those qualities characterizing a person’s way of behaviour which serve to indicate how well he can learn to meet and solve certain specified kinds of problems. Bingham: it is a specific capacity or special ability indicative of one’s probable success in a relevant field after getting proper opportunity for learning or training.
  • 20. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 19 Some specific abilities are necessary for gaining success in personal activities. these abilities help and individual to acquire required degree of proficiency or achieve success in a specific field is called “aptitude”. The word attitude is derived from the word “Aptos” which means fitted for. The term refers to a natural or acquired the capacity or ability specially a tendency or inclination to learn or understand (Webster's Medical Dictionary, 2002). Dictionary in English( 2011) enumerated that is in aptitude means probability of success in teaching. Whereas Kumar (2012) considered the teaching aptitude means and interest in the teaching work orientation, implementing teaching principles and methods. Kaur (2014) described teaching aptitude as a specific capacity or special ability distinct from the general intellectual ability of an individual indicative of his probable success in a particular field after receiving appropriate opportunity for learning or training. Bingham (1937) defines aptitude as a condition of set of characteristics regarded as a sympathetic of an individual’s ability to acquire responses. He refers aptitude to those qualities characterizing a person’s way of behaviour which served to indicate how well he can learn to meet and solve a certain specific kinds of problem. Spearman (1927) opined aptitude is the potential ability of an individual that promises future fruition into perfection. Traxler (1957) viewed aptitude is a present condition which is indicated of an individual potentialities for the future. Aptitude is an innate, acquired, learned or developed component of competency to a certain kind of work at a certain level. the teaching aptitude of for teacher may also affect the job satisfaction and his responsibilities towards academic activities. A variety of factors seems to go along with teachers aptitude and is depended upon certain personal traits, intellectual and temperamental and these often will enable the teacher to get over even drastic constraints imposed on his performance. Aptitude is described as a specific ability or a specific capacity from the general intellectual ability which helps as individual to acquire degree of proficiency or achievement in a specific field. Aptitude has been defined in a number of ways. Freeman defined aptitude as a combination of characteristics indicator of an individual’s capacity to acquire some specific knowledge, skill of set of organized responses. Thus aptitude for teaching is a condition or set of characteristics including knowledge understanding and attitude regarded as indicated of individuals ability to require with training abilities for teaching work (Dahiya and Singh). Aptitude means natural ability to do something. According to Bingham: “teaching aptitude defined as a condition or set of characteristics regarded as symptomatic in his readiness to acquire proficiency his potential ability and another in his readiness to development and interest in exercising his ability.” So that it can be said that teaching aptitude is a specific ability, potentiality, interest, satisfaction and fitness in teaching profession. Aptitude is considered to be an important characteristics of an individual which can predict the future. Success or failure of an individual in one occupation or areas of occupations. Aptitude may be described as a specific ability or a specific capacity distinct from the general intellectual ability which helps an individual to acquire degree of proficiency or achievement in a specific field. Jones was of the view that aptitude is more than potential ability or ability expectancy. It employees fitness for job because its success expectancy. Basically it includes
  • 21. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 20 intelligence ability of various kinds and personality factors necessary for success. It is a combination of these “ it refers to those qualities characterizing a person’s way of behaviour which serve to indicate how well he can learn to meet and solve a certain specified kind of problems” (Bingham 1937). Traxler(1957) “aptitude is a condition a quality or a set of qualities in an individual which is indicated of the probable extent to which he will be able to acquire under suitable training, some knowledge, skill or composite of knowledge, understanding and skills such as ability to contribute to art or music, mechanical ability, mathematical ability or ability to read and speak a foreign language.” Freeman (1971), an aptitude is a combination of characteristics indicated of an individual's capacity to acquire with training some specific knowledge skill or set of organized responses such as the ability to speak a language, to become a musician, to do mechanical work.” In this way by taking note of one’s present abilities and capacities we may come to know that one has an aptitude for learning and becoming successful in a particular area. While concluding we may observe that while one has mechanical aptitude others may have musical, scientific, legal, medical and other professionals scholastic or artistic attitudes. There may be commonalities with regard to the processing of one or the other type i.e. ; a group of students seeking admission to a particular course of instruction of professional study may be found to have a high degree of aptitude for that course or profession within themselves we may find a distinct range of diversities and variations when we take notice of the evaluation records of the aptitude tests. Some of them may be found to have very high attitude compared to average or low aptitude possessed by others. Similarly we may also find that many of them do well in a particular aptitude test they show a little or almost no aptitude for other subjects activities or areas that is why it has been observed that while one gets success after entering and getting required training in one area the other does make a little or no progress. It is therefore essential that we must pay due regard to the aptitude possessed by them for guiding them about their educational and vocational choices. It will automatically help in guiding the possible failure or disaster by placing the pegs into square holes and square pegs into round holes. Aptitude tests measure ability to succeed in a particular kind of training. Scholastic aptitude test measure ability to succeed in college or school. Vocational aptitude test measure the likelihood of success in vocational training or in an occupation. For constructing and aptitude tests in music for example one has to consider the factors which enter into good musical performance like ability to remember between differences in pitch, rhythm, pattern, intensity etc. Present level of achievement in these task must provide a predictive index. Someone who has the aptitude to do clerical work has the prerequisite skills in manual dexterity, attention to detail and speed with repetitive tasks to complete many types of clerical work effectively and efficiently. In most walks of life past performance is the best predictor of future performance in the same realm of activity. The effectiveness of education depends upon quantity of teachers working in an institution. The quality of teachers in turn depends upon the quality of training received by them in different training institutions. As we know the quantitative and qualitative improvement of elementary and secondary education has raised problems of solution of right type of teachers and enriching programs of teacher preparation. Thus, necessitates not only improving the knowledge of teaching competency of a teacher but also to inculcate in them desirable teacher like qualities.
  • 22. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 21 We know the teaching profession is one of the most important art of guiding students through a variety of selected teaching methods and methodologies it should therefore attract the brightest minds, finest personality and most committed the young people. As a profession it requires people who have right type of aptitude and attitude for teaching in bound to be a successful teacher in future. As a teacher we should enrich ourselves with different teaching methodologies in order to change the behaviour of learners keeping in view their individual differences. 1.1.6 Tribal Education in India : The aboriginal tribes of India are the oldest inhabitants of the country. For millennia tribal societies have been subjugated by more recently arrived groups, their land was taken away, they were pushed further into the hilly gorges and wilds and they were forced to work for their oppressors as often without payment. Today tribal groups which number more than 40 million, requires special attention from the government even the their lives largely isolated from the national culture. In the past many tribal groups were forced to assimilate into the dominant culture of the country. But some groups such as Bhils, Gonds, Santhals, Oraons, Mundas, Khonds, Mizos, Nagas and Khasis resisted change and assimilation to maintain their cultural identities and languages. According to many Indians their continued isolation poses problem to national integration. Under the banner of national unity the government is now bringing these minority groups into the national mainstream. Government planners see education as indispensable for helping tribal people cope with national integration. Education will also determine their prosperity, success and security in life. The tribes which remain either deprived of or negligent towards education will suffer the consequence. Compared with the literacy rates of 29.34% for the general population literacy among tribal peoples in India is at most 6%. The union and the state governments have spent considerable sums of money for tribal use education but the result aa meagre. The commissioner for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes asserts that unless exploitation among the tribals is combated and eliminated through education no improvement in tribal welfare will occur. Within tribal areas education can be the basis for integrated development. Government reports indicate that there is no scarcity of schools are the facilities or scholarships for the implementation of tribal education schemes. Among the various important factors of tribal education that influence integration into the national mainstream of life are the students and their teachers. Tribal students have different background from their non tribal School math’s and even the teachers who are normally outsiders do not understand the tribal students. To the teachers tribal students appeared and tidy reinforcing their biases against tribals. These biases are expressed in various forms of discrimination.
  • 23. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 22 1.2 Need and Importance of the Study Educational research aims at improving educational procedure through the refinement and extension of knowledge. Each research in education is undertaken to improve the existing educational process. Education is an important instrument in bringing out potentialities of human beings while effectiveness of a system of education is mainly dependent upon its teachers. That is why among all the dimensions of education teacher education is considered to be the most crucial. Teacher education programme is intimately related to the society and is conditioned by ethos, culture and character of the nation. The revitalization as strengthening of the teacher education system is there for a powerful means for the upliftment of educational studies in the country. Out of so many teacher training programs for different stages the secondary teacher education program is considered as a vital one. There is always need to evaluate the efforts which are being made by the training institutions to achieve the desired goal. It is highly recognized that the attitude of teacher contribute a lot for successful teaching. Teaching is not a mechanical job. it is social and professional activity and development process. It requires skills like any other skills. It calls for exercise of talent, creativity and love for knowledge, patience and dedication towards job. Out of so many teacher training programs for different stages the secondary teacher education program is considered as a vital one. Teachers education institutions are catalyst to provide a comprehensive platform for the growth and development of student teachers. Improvement of teachers efficiency is a means to enhance the quality of teacher education. the factors that are inherited and acquired need to be identified and empowered for making the teacher powerful and effective. The quality of teachers depend upon number of factors such as - achievement in different subject areas, attitude towards teaching, teaching aptitude, interest in teaching etc. All these are equally important for a teacher in the teaching learning process. Sometimes someone gets the opportunity to serve as a teacher on the basis of their good academic records without having positive attitude towards the profession and teaching aptitude. Teaching is an art and the quality of teaching depends on the love, dedication and devotion of the teachers towards the subject of the knowledge. Teachers who are generally unenthusiastic about the teaching profession ( having negative job orientation) then they were more stressed about their teaching situation than the teachers who were enthusiastic. Thus for the professional growth of the teachers and improvement in education the attitude and aptitude causes by them are very important. Tribal society is far behind in education and in raising their social and economic status and thus integrating them in the so-called men dominated world of today. The large majority of population in tribal areas is backward due to the correlation and least adoption of educational technology. The Government of India has launched a number of schemes for the promotion of education and welfare among the tribes. Thus this study was conducted with the object to know the level of teaching aptitude of tribal student teachers continuing their Bachelor of Education program in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand).
  • 24. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 23 1.3 Statement of the Problem “A Study of Teaching Aptitude of Prospective Teachers.” 1.4 Operational Definition of the key terms used 1) Teaching Aptitude – Freeman defined Aptitude as “a combination of characteristics indicated of an individual capacity to acquire (with training) some specific knowledge, skill or set of organized responses such as the ability to speak a language, to become a musician, to do mechanical work.” In the proposed study aptitude means the scores obtained by the B.Ed. students in Aptitude Scale. The B.Ed. student who secured highest score in the scale will be assumed as having satisfactory teaching aaaptitude. 2) B.Ed. – Bachelor of education is a graduate professional degree which prepare students for work as a teacher in schools. 1.5 Objectives of the Study The study will have the following objectives : 1) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers. 2) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers with respect to gender. 3) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers with respect to management of the institution. 4) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers with respect to locality. 5) To compare the teaching aptitude of tribal and non tribal prospective teachers. 1.6 Hypothesis of the Study 1) Teaching aptitude of Jamshedpur prospective teachers would be positive. 2) There would be no significant difference in the teaching aptitude of male and female prospective teachers.
  • 25. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 24 3) There would be no significant difference in teaching aptitude of prospective teachers of government and private institution. 4) There would be no significant difference in the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers of rural and urban areas. 5) There would be no significant difference in teaching aptitude of tribal and non tribal prospective teachers. 1.7 Delimitations of the Study The researcher has delimit her research work in respect of scope and level of which the study is ultimately conducted. Because in a time bonded research like the present one it is not possible for a researcher to achieve his or her goals of the study due to various constraints related to the content and limited resources like time, finance etc. Extensive research is always desirable but due to time and resource constraints the study will be delimited to : ● Teacher education colleges of East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand only.B.Ed. students.
  • 26. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 25 Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature
  • 27. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 26 Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature 2.1 Introduction Teaching aptitude play significant role in developing professionalism in teachers. A teacher with good teaching aptitude must be aware of the following essentials of teaching viz., plan a lesson, motivate students, curricular statements related learning materials, teaching learning strategies, essentials of the content, consolidation, elaborations , group activity, continuous and comprehensive evaluation discipline, multilevel and multigrade activities, effective communication and interaction etc. According to teacher trainee teaching aptitude is very beneficial. It helps to understand the aptitude of teacher trainee. Aptitude is to be distinguished from present ability. A certain trainee may not at present have the ability to teach perfectly but if she possesses a high degree of aptitude for teaching profession and gains proper training she can become a very good teacher. So it is helpful to knowing our aptitude level. A teacher presents the past, reveals the present and creates the future. 2.2 Reviews related to Teaching Aptitude Perveen ( 2006) in her study revealed that Discipline and Sex of the people teachers does not contribute towards teaching aptitude of male and female arts pupil teachers were compared, it was observed that female arts pupil teachers secured significantly higher means scores than there counterpart male arts pupil teachers. It was found that teaching aptitude of the pupil teacher was significantly correlated with their general teaching competence, professional interest and academic achievements. General teaching competence and professional interest of the pupil teachers significantly affect their teaching aptitude. In addition to this effect of academic achievement on teaching aptitude of the pupil teachers was positive but not significant at acceptable level of confidence. Uaha (2010) in her study revealed that there was a significant difference between teaching aptitude of effective and ineffective male and female teachers. By reviewing 5th and 6th Surveys of Educational Research it is found that very few researches related to teaching aptitude of higher secondary teachers have been carried out in India and most of them are based on HSST's. Teaching competency their attitude towards teaching profession and their professional aptitude. Joshi (2003) has studied teaching aptitude of HSST and revealed that sex does not have any impact on teaching aptitude of HSST. Moreover he concluded that teacher trainees have low socioeconomic status had been superior than their counterparts as far as their teaching aptitude is concerned. Lodhe (2003) has found that there is no significant correlation between teaching aptitude and of the teachers and there is significant difference between teaching aptitude of male and female
  • 28. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 27 teacher trainees that goes in favor of female teacher trainees. On the other side Singh (2004) have mentioned that gender plays an effective role as male pupil teachers have shown significant attainment in teaching competency as compared to their female counterparts. Kushwaha (2002 ) have concluded that female science teachers had been better than others in terms of teaching aptitude and there is a definite positive correlation between teaching efficiency and teaching aptitude. Chahar (2005) concluded that teaching aptitude of female teacher trainees is more positive than that of male teacher trainees overall and in the context of their subjects as a same result is found in science group and arts groups. Study was conducted to study the teaching aptitude of elementary and secondary teacher educators of Kashmir division. The sample for the present study was 300 including 150 elementary teacher educators and 150 secondary teacher educators. It was found that elementary teacher educator's have been more teaching aptitude as compared to secondary teacher educators on total score of teaching Aptitude test battery. Among the eight dimensions six dimensions were showing significant difference on teaching aptitude of elementary and secondary teacher educators. Harmeet Kaur (2005) it was found that the results were more or less similar. It was found that there is some significant differences in the teaching competency and in teacher competency in teacher trainees. But Yeh (2007) in a study suggested that pre service teachers with high levels of intra personal intelligence as well as those which judicial thinking styles are mindful, analytical and reflective in their teaching practices and therefore more likely to continually improve their skills in teaching aptitude. The teaching aptitude of all the first year B.Ed. students was found to be at an average level. The teaching aptitude of the teacher can be increased through continuous training and hard working. The training of a teacher is a never ending process. Mrs. Harmeet Kaur (1991) have concluded that there is no significant difference in teaching aptitude with respect to gender and stream. We are now a part of equalitarian society where all without any consideration to sex have equal rights to nurture their talents so result can be viewed by their non significant result on aptitude tests. secondly all streams include curriculum to develop the level of students in all aspects at utmost. So stream shows no significant difference in level of achievement in aptitude test. On the other side Singh K (2015) have mentioned that the male and female teacher trainees do not differ significantly on the teaching aptitude while the teaching aptitude of arts and science B.Ed. teacher trainees differ significantly. Hare Krushna Path, Dr. Benjongkumba concluded that it is pertinent to mention here that quality in teacher education is not an independent phenomenon. It is influenced by a number of factors like teaching aptitude attitude towards teaching profession and values components of student teachers. Quality can never be maintained and improved unless capable teachers with the higher and above average people are chosen for
  • 29. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 28 this profession. The entry-level entrance test must be so designed to scout talents for teaching profession. This small study is an indicator of the teaching aptitude of student teachers of Orissa where a single student teacher could qualify for hi teaching aptitude level. The study revealed the fact that the attitude is both inborn and acquired hence the government must think of the modalities for enhancing the level of teaching aptitude of the student teachers as it is one of the very important characteristics of good teacher. Sajan (2010) conducted a study on teaching aptitude of student teachers and their academic achievement at graduate level over the teacher education institute of Malabar area of Kerala to measure the teaching aptitude of student teachers in general and with respect to five different dimensions. The finding of study concluded that the teaching aptitude reveals that the highest scoring dimension is the professional information and the least score in one is the professional interest. Abdullah (2010) conducted a study on academic achievements, teaching aptitude and the personality traits as the protectors of success in elementary teacher training and to study the teaching aptitude in protecting success in terms of achievement teacher educator rating and school teacher rating. The finding of study concluded that the teacher aptitude is found to have significant positive correlation with all the parameters of success and various studies conducted in relationship between teacher aptitude and teacher performance have also shown the same.
  • 30. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 29 Chapter 3 Methodology of the Study
  • 31. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 30 Chapter 3 Methodology of the Study 3.1 Introduction Methodology is the systematic theoretical analysis of methods applied to a field of study. It is the general research strategy that outlines the way in which the search is to be undertaken and among other things to be identify the methods to be used in it. These methods described in the mythology define the means or mode of data collection or sometimes have a specific result is to be calculated. Methodology does not define specific methods even though much attention is to be given to the nature and kinds of processes to be followed. Research methodology implies the process of reaching a reliable solution to a problem. In this content research methodology is the planned structure and strategy of investigation conceived so as to assess the attitude towards the program descriptive survey method was used for the study. 3.2 Design of the Study The research design is the detailed plan of the investigation. In fact it is a blueprint of the detailed procedures of testing the hypothesis and analyzing the obtained data. The Research Design thus, may be defined as a sequence of those steps taken ahead of time to ensure that the relevant data will be collected in a way that permits objective analysis of the different hypothesis formulated with respect to research problems. Thus, the Research Design help the researcher in testing the hypothesis by reaching valid and objective conclusions regarding the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The selection of any Research Design is based upon the purpose of the investigation types of variable and the conditions in which the research is to be conducted. The present study is a descriptive research, survey method will be adopted for the study. 3.3 Variables Variables may be defined as those attributes of objects, events, things and beings which can be measured. In other words, variables are the characteristics of conditions that are manipulated, controlled or observed by the experimenter. For example intelligence, anxiety, aptitude, income, education, achievement etc. Variables are of four types : 1) Independent variable 2) Dependent variables 3) Intervening variables Extraneous variables
  • 32. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 31 Independent Variable The independent variable is one which is manipulated, measured and selected by the experimenter for the purpose of producing observable changes in the behavioral measure. In other words the independent variable is the variable on the basis of which the production about the dependent variable is made. They are of two types: 1) active independent variables 2) Attribute independent variable In the present study “A Study of Teaching Aptitude of Prospective Teacherss”, Prospective Teachers are considered as the independent variable. Dependent Variable This is the variable that is affected by the independent variable. It is one about which the experimenter makes a prediction. Dependent variables are basically conditions or characteristics that appears, disappears or changes as experimental introduces, removes or changes independent variable. It represents the consequence of change in the person of situations studies. In the present study Aptitude of Prospective teachers is considered as dependent variable. 3.4 Population and Sample of the Study 3.3.1 Population A research population is generally a large collection of individuals objects that is the main focus of a scientific query. RSS population is also known as a well-defined collection of individuals objects known to have similar characteristics common binding characteristics or trait. In the present study the Prospective teachers of Jamshedpur is considered as the population of the study. 3.3.2 Sample A sample is simply a subset of the population. The concept of sample arises from the inability of the researches to test all the individuals in a given population. the sample was with the true representative of the population from which it is drawn and it must have good size to administer statistical analysis. the population “gives” the sample and then it “ takes” conclusions from the result obtained from the sample. Hence in the present study, the sample is of around 100 prospective teachers out of which 40 to 50 students are selected from teacher education colleges of East singhbhum, Jamshedpur only
  • 33. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 32 3.3.3 Sampling Technique Purposive sampling technique has been used in the selection of the sample. 40 to 50 prospective teachers has been selected from B.Ed colleges only. 3.5 Tools used for Data Collection Dahiya and Singh Teaching Aptitude test (DSTAT)constructed and standardized by Dr. Surinder S. Dahiya and Dr. LC Singh 2004 has been adopted by the researcher to collect data. It has been designed to measure the potentiality of a graduate person who intends to take up our teaching profession at the secondary or senior secondary School stage. Does this test comes under Teaching Aptitude Test (TAT). It is a self administering verbal group test. The questioner consists of 20 test items of multiple choice types each item has four alternative answers- A,B,C,D. The score from the test is useful for the selection of candidates for admission to teacher education colleges. It could be used as one of the test for the entrance examination. 3.6 Scoring The questionnaire contains 20 multiple choice questions. Each correct answer as per the answer key is given one point score. There is no negative marking for the scoring the test. The maximum score one can obtain is 20. The scoring is done by the answer key given in the manual and find out the total score. This RAW score is converted to standard score as given in the manual of the test and based on the Standard Score the level of the Teaching Aptitude is found with the help of the table given in the manual. 3.7 Administration of the Tools A survey was conducted on the following instructions were given to the subject before the administration of the test : ● The aim of the test was explain briefly to the subjects.
  • 34. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 33 ● The subjects were allowed to read the instructions given on the top of the page of the test carefully. ● There is no time limit for the test. ● The questionnaire contained 20 multiple choice questions. Each item was followed by four alternative answers. Each one had to select the most appropriate answer out of the 4 answers. The subjects to 30 minutes for completing their answers. The score and analysis was done by using the manual of the given test.

  • 36. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 35 CHAPTER 4 Analysis and Interpretation of Data 4.1 Introduction Research is characterized by the care taken in the analysis and interpretation of data. It includes the selection of appropriate statistical techniques to be used for processing the data collected for the study. Statistical techniques have contributed greatly in gathering organizing analyzing and interpreting numerical data. The process of interpretation is essential one of stating what the results show. It calls for a careful logical and critical examination of the results obtained after analysis. Analysis of data means studying the organized material in order to discover inherent facts. Data analysis is considered being an important step and heart of the research in the research work. The data are study from as many angles as possible to explore the new facts. Analysis requires an alert, flexible and open mind. After collection of data with the help of relevant tools and techniques the next logical step is to analyze and interpret data with a view to arriving at empirical solution to the problems. The data analysis for the present study was done quantitatively with the help of both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics statistical techniques like mean standard deviation and for the inferential statistics t- tests were used during data analysis. In this section a researcher is free to discuss any possible revision and addition to existing theory and encourage studies design to test hypothesis suggested by results. The Researcher may also discuss the implication of findings for educational practical practices and suggest studies that can be replicated in other settings. The researcher may also suggest for the study is to be designed for investing different dimensions of the problem investigated. This chapter summarizes the total study which has been chapterized from 1 to 4 . The important aspects are required to covered in this chapter. 5.2 Background of the Study Education prepares the future generation of a nation with teachers play the most vital role in this process. Education Commission (1964- 66) says “of all different factors which influence the quality of education and his contribution to National development, the quality, competence and character of teachers are undoubtedly the most significant.” According to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam ( 2015) “A good teacher can eliminate the weakness of our education.” An efficient teacher alone can provide qualitative education the delivery of quality education is possible only through quality teachers. The success of students is a testimony to the great service of teacher. Aptitude is an innate, acquired, learned or developed component of competency to a certain kind of work at certain level. The teaching aptitude of a teacher may also affect the job satisfaction and his responsibilities towards academic activities. A variety of factors seems to go along with features attitude and is depend upon certain personal traits intellectual and temperamental and these often will enable the teacher to get over even drastic constraints in pores on his performance. There are so many factors which have dominant roles on teacher’s aptitude. Tribals are known to be the autochthonous people of land. Tribals are often referred to adivasi, vanvasi, Pahari, adimjaati, anusuchit janjati, etc. India has a second largest tribal population in the world the first being Africa. The tribal people have rich traditions culture and heritage with unique lifestyle and customs. The scheduled tribe population represents one of the most economically impoverished and marginalized groups in India. Education is an important revenue for upgrading the economic and social conditions of the scheduled tribes. Education is in fact, and input not only for economic development of tribes but also for the inner strength of the tribal communities which helps them in meeting the challenges of life.
  • 48. M.Ed (2019 – 21) 47 5.3 Rationale of the Study The characteristics of the teacher as yardsticks to measure the achievement and aspirations of the nation have been considered as an important factor in this research. The potentiality of a country can be evaluated by the work of a teacher. They are the real nation builders. The teachers inculcate right conduct, right thought in the students by their active association and classroom participation. Teacher performance, teacher competence and teacher effectiveness are all interlinked and influenced by other characteristics of a teacher such as teaching aptitude, attitude towards teaching profession and value pattern etc. The success in teaching a satisfactory preparation of teaching profession is only possible you have remarkable aptitude in teaching. There are number of research studies conducted in the area of teaching aptitude of teachers. Teaching aptitude is compared with respect to age, experience, facility, gender, different levels and categories of teachers etc. It is also correlated with success of teaching, teaching learning process, teacher commitment, teacher effectiveness, intelligence, academic achievement, personality etc. does this study was conducted with the object to know the level of teaching aptitude of prospective teachers continuing their Bachelor of Education program in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. 5.4 Statement of the Problem The statement of the present study was stated as “A Study of Teaching Aptitude of Prospective Teachers.” 5.5 Objectives of the Study The study was considered with the following objectives : 1) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers. 2) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers with respect to gender. 3) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers with respect to the management of institution. 4) To study the teaching aptitude of prospective teachers with respect to locality. 5) To compare the teaching aptitude of tribal and non tribal prospective teachers.
