Centralized Monitoring System for Street Light Fault
Detection and LocationTracking
3. INTRODUCTION :-
An Automatic Street Light is a light that turns on the sensor will be detect the
motion and turns off when it gets light & without motion It uses sensors to know
when it’s day or night.
Why need we are using street light automation....?
• This is an IOT based project the normal street light con be work manually on/
off.
• By using this system energy consumption is also reduced because nowadays
the manually operated street lights are not switched off even the sunlight
comes and also switched on earlier before sunset.
• We are making a centralized project which is based on fault detection of street
light in which we are using a GSM module for send a message to the central
system if we have any fault at the street light.
4. Literature Survey :-
New intelligent and smart street light system is designed with wireless technology
for maintenance and network of sensors for controlling. In which, they used high
efficiency LED lamp which consumes less energy with high life time and which are
supplied with renewable energy of solar panels.
Using solar panel at the lamp post by using LDR it is possible to save some more
power and energy, and also we can monitored and controlled the street lights using
GUI application , which shows the status of the lights in street or highway lighting
systems.
Design of Wireless Framework for Energy Efficient Street Light Automation suggested
an Intelligent management of the lamp posts by sending data to a central station by
ZigBee wireless communication. With the suggested system, maintenance can be
easily and efficiently planned from the central station, allowing additional savings.
5. Problem we are detecting is
and its solution :-
• Fault in LED cable breakers and leakage current.
• Electricity is the critical need for progress of the life hood. ln
many Indian cities, the maintenance of street lights has become
a challenging and inefficient process due to the lack of a
centralized monitoring system .
• Identifying faults, such as non- functioning lights, current
leakage and cable breakage, relies on citizen grievances, leading
to delays, increased costs, and safety concerns. Linemen spend
valuable time manually searching for faults.
6. APPLICATION
• Safe road lighting for smooth.
• vehicular movement.
• This idea con be implemented
on both small roads & busy
highway.
• Cab be implementable in
parking area.
• Implementable in museum,
auditorium.
ADVANTAGES
• Power Saving
• LEDs Consume less Power
• Easily Implementable
• Cost Effective
• Can Overcome the Crisis of
Natural Power
8. • IR SENSOR :- Infrared sensors sensing an approaching vehicle using the IR sensors and then
switchingON a block of street lights ahead of the vehicle.
• Microcontroller :- A microcontroller is a compact integrated circuit designed to govern a specific
operation in an embedded system. A typical microcontroller includes a processor , memory and
input/output (I/O) peripherals on a single chip.
• LDR MODULE :- LDR (light dependent resister) is used to detect the presence of light and turn on
and off the street light accordingly.
• LED :- It is a Light Emitting Diode.
• GSM MODULE :- A GSM module (Global System for MobileCommunication) or a GPRS module is a
chip or circuit that will be used to establish communication between a mobile device or a computing
machine and a GSM or GPRS system.
• ESP-01 :- The ESP-01 ESP8266 SerialWIFIWirelessTransceiver Module is a self-contained SOC with
integratedTCP/IP protocol stack that can give any microcontroller access to your Wi-Fi network.
The ESP8266 is capable of either hosting an application or offloading allWi-Fi networking functions
from another application processor.
9. Current Work :-
• Street light automation is an important aspect of
smart city initiatives.Current work in this field
involves integrating advanced technologies such as
IoT, sensors, and data analytics to create more
efficient and sustainable lighting systems.
• These systems can adjust brightness levels based
on real-time traffic conditions, pedestrian
movement, and ambient light, leading to energy
savings and improved safety.
• Additionally, some solutions also incorporate smart
scheduling and remote monitoring, enabling
authorities to efficiently manage and maintain the
street lighting network.
10. Future Work :-
• Future developments in street light automation are expected to focus
on further enhancing energy efficiency, incorporating renewable
energy sources, and leveraging artificial intelligence for more
sophisticated control systems.
• This may involve the integration of renewable energy technologies
such as solar panels or kinetic energy harvesting to power street lights,
reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.
• Moreover, advancements in AI and machine learning are likely to
enable predictive analytics, allowing the system to anticipate lighting
needs based on historical data and environmental factors.
• Furthermore, the implementation of connected infrastructure and 5G
technology may enable more seamless communication between
street lights, vehicles, and pedestrians, leading to enhanced safety and
improved traffic management.Overall, the future of street light
automation is aimed at creating more sustainable, intelligent, and
adaptive urban environments.
11. Reference :-
• Smart streetlight monitoring systems are
