Prior to installation,the scaffoldcontractororscaffolddesignercanthenproviderelevant informationaboutthe
scaffold. Thisshouldinclude:
 type of scaffoldrequired(tube & fitting or system)
 maximumbaylengths
 maximumliftheights
 platform boardingarrangement(i.e.5 + 2) and the numberofboardedlifts that canbeused at any onetime
 safe workingload/ loadclass
 maximumlegloads
 maximumtiespacingbothhorizontalandvertical andtie duty
 detailsof additionalelementssuchasbeamedbridges,fans,loadingbays etc., whichmaybe a standard
configurationorspecificallydesigned
 informationcanbeincludedinrelevantdrawingsif appropriate
 any other informationrelevantto the design,installationoruse of the scaffold
 referencenumber,dateetc.to enablerecording,referencingandchecking
All scaffoldingmustbeerected,dismantled andalteredinasafe manner.Thisisachievedbyfollowingtheguidance
provided by the NASC in documentSG4‘Preventingfallsin scaffolding’fortubeand fitting scaffoldsor by following
similarguidanceprovidedbythe manufacturersofsystem scaffolding.
Forscaffoldsthat falloutside the scopeofa generallyrecognizedstandardconfigurationthedesignmustbesuch
that safe erectionanddismantlingtechniquescanalsobeemployedthroughoutthedurationof the works. Toensure
stabilityfor morecomplexscaffolds,drawingsshouldbeproducedand,wherenecessary,these mayneedto be
supplementedwithspecificinstructions.
Any proposedmodificationoralterationthattakes a scaffoldoutsidethe scopeof a generallyrecognizedstandard
configurationshouldbedesignedbya competentpersonandprovenby calculation.

2. SCAFFOLDPLANNING PROCESS

Fallrestraints andsafety netting shouldonlybe consideredasalast resort if other safety equipmentcannotbeused.
Assessing work at height- Assess the risks, take precautions,andissueclearmethodstatementsforeveryone who
willwork at height.
Fragilesurfaces-Thehierarchyof controlsfor workingon or nearfragile surfacesisavoid, control,communicate,co-
operate.
Ladders- When it’s appropriateto useladders – and the threekey safety issues– position,conditionandsafeuse.
Towerscaffolds-Selectthe right towerfor the job; erect,use, move anddismantlethetower safely; ensurethat it is
stable; inspectit regularly;prevent falls.

 Avoid throwingof anyscaffoldmaterialsuserope, fitting bags& pulley(ginwheel)
 Properleveling of allhorizontal ledgers& transom & makesure allconnectionsaresecurelytights
 Samesequenceoferectionuntilyou reachthe finalheightof the platform neededasper request
 Internalaccessmustbein the maximum openingat450mm x600mm &shouldbeput cageonthe top
platform to prevent workersdirectlyfalldownnear the gapopening
 Externalaccessmustbein maximum widthopeningof1m onthe workingplatform
 Accessladdermustin a 750 angleandsecurelytied on top, middle,bottom
