Advantages of Halnn CBN inserts milling hard materials
1. Advantages of Halnn CBN inserts milling
hard materials
Hard materials include toolsteel, die steel, chilled castiron and
ferrochrome, powderalloys, surfacing metals and some nickel-based and
cobalt-based heat-resistant alloys, all with hardness higher than HRC45.
With the fierce competition in modern manufacturing and the renewal of
materials, hard milling is an effective way to improve production
efficiency. The use of reasonable cutting toolmaterials and processing
knowledge can greatly reduce the difficulty of milling hard materials.
The mold manufacturing industry is a pioneer in the hard milling of
fine-grain carbide milling tools with excellent hardness and toughness. In
order to improve the heat resistance and lubricity of the cutting toolitself,
it is usually coated, but many hard materials have a hardness of HRC60,
2. the coating thickness is thin, and the workpiece with irregular surface is
easy to wear quickly, which affects production efficiency.
With the advent of CBN inserts, the ability to maintain high hardness at
high temperatures has made it possible to replace coated tools for milling
hard materials in many machining operations. However, for most CBN
inserts, the increase in hardness is often accompanied by a decrease in
toughness, which limits the application of CBN inserts in the field of
interrupted cutting.
However, with the successfuldevelopment of China Halnn non-metallic
binder CBN inserts, on the basis of ensuring high hardness and high wear
resistance, the impact toughness and fracture resistance are improved, and
the interrupt milling of hard materials becomes reality.
For milling hard materials, Halnn recommends two CBN inserts -
BN-K1grade CBN inserts and BN-S20 grade CBN inserts, which are all
solid CBN inserts, of which BN-K1grade CBN inserts are mainly for cast
iron and BN-S20grade CBN inserts are for steel. Large cutting depth,
High cutting speed milling hard materials, improve production efficiency.
3. Halnn CBN inserts are mainly surface-faced milling. Commonly used are
face milling CBN inserts with round inserts, 75° face milling CBN inserts
with square inserts and 90° face milling CBN inserts with diamond
inserts. The CBN tool head of ≤100 diameter comes with Mo 4# taper
shank (above).
The following is a brief introduction to the caseof Halnn CBN inserts for
milling hard materials.
