This presentation discusses otitis media, an inflammation of the middle ear. It defines otitis media and describes the three main types: acute, otitis media with effusion, and chronic. Causes are discussed such as age, allergies, smoking exposure, and viral infections like streptococcus pneumoniae. Clinical features of acute otitis media include fever and ear pain. Diagnosis involves history, physical exam, and tests like otoscopy. Treatment involves antibiotics, analgesics, and occasionally surgery.
