Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
Good day, class!
JM, please lead the prayer.
Pick-up the pieces of paper under your
desks. Now, our secretary, Kath, please
check the attendance, thank you.
Very good, Kath!
Good day, mam!
(JM leads the prayer)
Already done, mam!
B. Motivation and Review
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
Class, before we start our lesson, let us
all stand and sing the Interest Song, in
the tune of Fight Song, by Rachel Platten!
Now, does anyone of you experience to
buy and sell items?
Does anyone of you would like to earn
more money and buy things you want?
These questions are related to our topic
today, which is about Interest. We will
now learn, the meanings of terms
principal, rate and interest. To calculate
the interest using formula and Finally, we
are going to apply the knowledge to real
life situation. But before we proceed, let’s
have a review about our previous topic,
which is Profit and loss.
Yay!!
Yes mam!

If you wanted to make or buy the toy what
did you called the price that which you
make or buy the toy?
And You’ve decided to sell the toy for
certain amount of money what did you
called the price at which you sell the toy?
When the selling price of an item is more
than its cost price, it means you get more
money than you spend on the toy what
did you call the difference between the
two prices?
But when the cost price is more than its
selling price, it means you get less money
than you spend on the toy , what did you
call the difference between the two
prices?
Cost price
Selling price
Profit
Loss

Now, who of you have heard the word
Interest?
Can anyone tell me what an Interest is?
Who of you here has kept or deposited in
the bank?

Excellent! Now, we are going to tackle a
problem about Interest! Our first problem
is about a girl named Kayzee has P1,000
she either keep it with herself or deposit
in the bank, if she keeps it with herself
then money remains as such till the time
she spend it. If however she deposit it in
the bank then the bank will look after it
for her and will reward her with some
extra money to encourage her to save
some more money
This reward is called Interest.
Do you know why bank pays Interest?
Kayzee saves P1,000 in the bank then
we can say that her money is used by
the bank for lending others.
The money that is invested or borrowed
is called?
The extra money earned on the money
you invested or extra money paid to use
the money is called as the?
The interest is paid as percent of the
principal borrowed or invested(per year).
If Kayzee deposit P1,000 in the bank for
1 year at 10% interest ∴ 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑝𝑎𝑙 =
𝑃1,000 and the Interest = 10% in the
bank will pay Kayzee 10% of P1,000=
It pays Interest for allowing it to lend your
money to others to improve their business.
Principal.

100
𝑥 1000 = 𝑃100
Thus, Kayzee ears P100 as interest on
the amount invested. The total money
received by Kayzee is called Amount
P1,000+100=P1,100.
𝑆𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑡
=
𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑝𝑎𝑙 × 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 × 𝑅𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑡
100
Or 𝑆. 𝐼 =
𝑃𝑅𝑇
100
Now, let’s proceed to another problem,
John deposited P3,000 for 4 years at 5%
rate of Interest what will be the interest
earned by John and His total money?
Can anyone solve this on the board?
Outstanding! Let’s give him a big hand!
(Student writes solution and answer on
the board and explains it.)
Principal=P3,000
Time=4years
Rate of Interest=5%
𝑆. 𝐼 =
𝑃𝑅𝑇
100
=
𝑃3,000 × 4 × 5
100
= 𝑃600
𝐴𝑚𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡 = 𝑃 + 𝐼 = 𝑃3,000 + 600 = 𝑃3,600

your experience on the items that you
found the best in terms of interest.

2. Application
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
Class, did you bring your stuff toys?
Today, we’re going to sell that to your
classmates. Put an interest on the stuff
toy that you will sell and compute for the
rate and the final amount.
1. Jm’s Group. Mini teddy bear cost
P300.
2. Philip’s Group. Alligator Stuff Toy
cost P400.
Yes. Mam!

3. Generalization
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
So, what have you learned from our
topic today that you can apply to your
everyday life as a student?
That’s great!
We learned that as students we should
always save money. And through
Interest, we are able to earn more
money.
D. Evaluation
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
Prepare for a short quiz, and prepare
another one-half crosswise!
1. Reg deposits $4,000 at a bank at an
interest rate of 4.5% per year. How
8. 8
much interest will she earn at the end
of 3 years?
2. Marie borrowed $3,000 from a bank at
an interest rate of 12% per year for a
2-year period. How much interest
does she have to pay the bank at the
end of 2 years?
3. Mary bought a car for $40, 000. He
took a $20,000 loan from a bank at an
interest rate of 15% per year for a 3-
year period. What is the total amount
(interest and loan) that he would have
to pay the bank at the end of 3 years?
E. Assignment
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
1. Search about the next topic, which is
about Compound Interest.
2. Search for online shopping websites
and compare the discounts offered by
the different websites. Compute for
the amount of difference from the
different stores.
