3. is directed by award-winning winemaker and viticulturist Alex
Russell. With a wealth of experience in the industry, both locally
and internationally, Alex’s motivation to create a unique product
resulted in establishing Alex Russell Wines (ARW) in 2012.
ARW processes North-West Victorian and South Australian wine
grapes for the Australian market and operates on the philosophy
that the best wines are produced in the vineyard. Quality is driven
by the timing of harvest and the relentless pursuit of the best
possible finished wine.
In addition to production for local markets, fruit is sourced
from Australia’s premier wine regions and the bottled product is
supplied to clients in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China - from entry
level to ultra-premium.

5. From it’s inception, a passion for the interesting and obscure has been the driving
force behind the Alejandro range of alternative varietals - a curious selection of
wine for those lucky enough to have an inquisitive disposition.
Grape varieties like Montepulciano, Saperavi, Fiano, Verdejo and Lagrein all thrive
in Australia’s hot dry climate, producing some of the brightest whites and darkest
reds available, and the wine drinkers of Australia are ready and craving it.

18. ARW engages in two styles of wine making.
1. Boutique South Australian Wines
2. Commercial South Australian and Victorian production
ARW’s own winery is situated at 155 Cucumunga St,
Renmark, South Australia. The winery is very small with a
crushing capacity of 60 tonnes of the finest Riverland and
Mildura fruit. The majority of wines produced are red wines
which are deep in colour and alcohol and aged in a mixture
of puncheons and hogheads. ARW produces unique
varieties such as Saperavi, Durif, Lagrein, Montepulciano
and Carmenere – all deeply dark red wines. ARW also
produces Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and a number of
white wines and cider.
ARW’s commercial South East Australian wines are
produced at 12918 Sturt Hwy Waikerie South Australia –
just 190km from Adelaide, South Australia. Fruit is sent
to the winery at optimum maturity, some varieties, such
as Chardonnay, are fermented on oak. Red wines, such as
Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Petit Verdot, are
harvested at the peak maturity then fermented on skins
for 5-7 days. ARW uses contract bottling facilities in the
Adelaide and Mildura regions.
ARW produces for and supplies to the Australian bulk
market, plus bottled and bulk wines to Asia.
