2. food packaging :
• Packaging:
• is the science, art and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution,
storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of design, evaluation, and
production of package
3. • Introduction
• Activity 1: investigating food packaging
• Activity 2:anlizing food packaging materials
• Activity 3: evaluating the impact of food packaging on the environment
• Activity4: comparing packaging materials
• Activity 5:designing a protective package
• Activity6:comparing the insulating properties of packaging martials
4. Activity 1 :investigating food packaging
Objective :
the prediction about how
the microwave popcorn
package is constructed and
how its work :
materials used in each part of the (popcorn)package :purposes of each materials
aluminium moisture-tight
paper can be painted on
Plastic flexible recycling
The pop corne bags its designed to work in microwave oven ;
1-magnetron generates :
invisible electromacnatic radi-ation known as microwave
2-stirrer :
it is scatters the microwave in to the oven chamber were they are
absorbed by the food.
3- microwaves :
its produces the heat that cook the food
What are some of the purposes of a
microwave :
5. What's materials that make up a microwave popcorn package, and What is the function
of each of these materials :
microwave popcorn package includes a clear plastic bag having a sheet of a
microwavable . The package is placed in a microwave oven with the microwaveable
anti-scorch material under the popcorn. And its made of paper because its can be
painted
6. Activity 2:analyzing food packaging materials
Objective :
Part A:
In this part of the activity we look at
different types of food packaging
,determine what purposes the
packaging serves and identify the
types of materials that we used in
packaging
type of food discribeiption of packaging purposes of packaging
prepared food ( (اغذيهجاهزه box protect from spoiling
beverages مشروبات) ) bottle Strong and water tight
Conmen of food packaging materials is :
the properties that make glass useful for food packaging :
1-its transparent 2-airtight 3-watertight 4-micro-wave able5- non toxic
1-it is light weight 2- not airtight (good for foods that need to breathe) 3- easily
printed on
1-cans weight less 2-its keep out moisture and air 3-its can be used in packaging
designed to be heat-ed in an oven
1-glass :
2 - card board :
3- aluminum :
7. Activity 3: evaluating the impact of food packaging on the environment
Objective :
In this activity we examine different types of packaging
with the same food product , we determine the mass of
the packaging and the food separately to see which type
of packaging produces the least amount of waste for the
amount of food packaging
Product Product description Total massand

Massof package Massof product Package product
Juice Bottle of aluminum 423 68 355ml 68355= 0.203
Cheese Bottle of glass 213 23 190g 23190=0.121
Water Bottle of plastic 358 8 350ml 8350 =0.229
Paper , plastic ,aluminium packaging :are lighter than package made of glass ,,in addition its flexible
8. Activity4: comparing packaging materials
Objective :
in this activity we investigate another property
of packaging materials their ability to protect
fragile foods

9. Activity 5:designing a protective package :
Objective :
in this part of activity we compare the ability of different
packaging materials to protect a tomato ,and we fill a plastic bag
with tomato and the packaging materials to be tested and drop it
from increasing heights until the packaging fails to protect the
tomato ,, then we use class data to compare the ability of the
different materials

If the floor is made of strong ,hard martials such us concrete most of the kinetic energy will be returned to the package ,,this energy can damage the package and its contents
10. Activity6: comparing the insulating properties of packaging materials
Objective :
in this part of the activity we compare the
insulating properties of several different packaging
materials ..and we test a different materials

Heat energy can be transferred through three processes : 1- conduction 2- convection 3- radiation
12. introduction
A lot of people who takes a lot of time in their work they didn’t eat healthy food because
they ordered a fast food ,, that why we make Smart food heater :
1-Its help people who spend their time in work to have a hot food in their place
2- it easy to heat the food in any place
3- they can make a healthy food in their house and heat it in there office work
13. Hypothesis:
We learned how to maintain the temperature of food
from our
Activity and thus we decided to make this product

In the future if we marketing the package we will make a remote to measure the calories
That have a Bluetooth to connect with the package

17. What we had learned in al-bairaq:
Conclusion
packaging has several objectives:
1-Physical protection
2- Barrier protection
3-Marketing
4-Information transmission
5-Security
6-Convenience
7- Portion control
18. Acknowledgment
Many thanks to my teachers, school and AL-Bairaq team from Center
