WHAT IS FOLLOW UP STRATEGY ?
The task that a
merchandiser finishes is
mostly done by follow up
process. Follow up is to
monitor, control, and
finding problems & work on
solution. This process is
mandatory for
merchandiser to co-
ordinate among the
production unit. Proper
follow up process helps to
THE MAIN OBJECTS OF FOLLOW
UP PROCESS
1. Reduce cycle time
2. Reduce workload
3. Expedite sample development and bulk
order
4. Avoid waiting time & unnecessary delays
5. Reduction on the travel distance of man
and materials
6. Reduce unnecessary costing
7. Reduce material leftover
General follow up process in
merchandising
Effective follow up process in
merchandising
 Work measurement / time study: This will help to
understand the urgency.
 Recurring reminders: Repeatedly reminding will focus
on quick response that task may not be stuck somewhere of
the process.
 E-mail attachment: Merchandiser should be attached by
mail otherwise there will be chances to have denials from the
factory or supplier.
 Calendar view & calendar feeds: Time action
calendar is to maintain dead line & continuing progress to
keep.
 Response detection: Most of the time it was seen
factory or supplier give late response by mail or phone. In all
cases need to be sure that the responses are accurate & on
time.
Effective follow up process in
merchandising continue…..
 Zooming & going to bottom line: So merchandiser
should work at bottom line as much as possible & always
keep zooming of the problem to discover the reality.
 Worst case scenario: This can be technical problem or
big disaster but merchandiser should keep the alternative at
least two possible way. Suppose if sample got rejected after
making it then to keep enough fabric for remaking the
sample.
 Keep things real: To be honest with yourself as well as
others.
 Monitoring & control: refers to the controlof any
system, device, network or people through communication &
managed by a control Merchandiser has to continuing this
whatever situation arise.
 Review: This helps to reduce error or doing things again &

also check the quality
of product. for example
if the stitch is good or
if there is any fabric
fault etc.
Pattern and marker dept.
is another important dept.
of a garments industry. A
merchandiser always
follow up with pattern and
marker dept. That means
if the pattern is accurate
or not. Consumption is also
calculate in this dept.
FOLLOW UP WITH MATERIAL CONTROL AND
SUPPLIER DEPT.
All raw material and other logistics
should be supply on time. This process
is running accurately or not it should be
checked by a merchandiser. So for this
communication merchandiser can
communicate with supplier or store
room manager.
Commercial dept.
The commercial department
involves with export and import
raw materials and finished
garments, manage and provide
necessary export and import
documents for smooth export-
import process in garments
manufacturing. Their role is very
vital, deal with merchandising
and accounts department for
their working procedure. so a
merchandiser always follow this
with the commercial officer
R&D dept.
R&D (Research and Development)
section plays a vital role to the
overall production and quality of a
fabric. The task of R & D section
starts from fabrication and ends at
final inspection of finished fabric.
That is they used to follow up all
the section like fabric planning,
knitting, dyeing, printing,
finishing, lab, quality control and
assurance etc. till the final finished
fabric comes out.

A merchandiser should
follow up all the
managerial concern
people and distribute
and update there
duties with continuous
basis
Accounts dept.
A merchandiser should
Always connected with
the accounts dept.
because all the
finnancial sollusion is
done by this dept.
Follow up with management and accounts dept.
Follow up with finishing dept.
In the apparel industry, finishing room is the last steps of garment manufacturing
or assembling the operation are performed. After making complete stitched
garments by sewing section, these are passed in finishing department for ironing,
folding, poly packing, cartoning to get attractive appearance. All types of garments
finishing activities are done here. So merchandiser should always take care about
this .i mean if all the activities were done accurately or not.
conclusion
merchandising is the process to keep
touch with people by follow up. Strong
follow up can reduce unnecessary
struggle as well as wasting of time. The
dead line set by customer is possible to
meet if the process flow works properly.

This process is mandatory for merchandiser to co- ordinate among the production unit. Proper follow up process helps to

Effective follow up process in merchandising  Work measurement / time study: This will help to understand the urgency.  Recurring reminders: Repeatedly reminding will focus on quick response that task may not be stuck somewhere of the process.  E-mail attachment: Merchandiser should be attached by mail otherwise there will be chances to have denials from the factory or supplier.  Calendar view & calendar feeds: Time action calendar is to maintain dead line & continuing progress to keep.  Response detection: Most of the time it was seen factory or supplier give late response by mail or phone. In all cases need to be sure that the responses are accurate & on time.

  • 10. follow up with Quality control dept. Quality means customer needs is to be satisfied but maintaining an adequate standard of quality also costs effort. A merchandiser should also check the quality of product. for example if the stitch is good or if there is any fabric fault etc.
  • 11. Pattern and marker dept. is another important dept. of a garments industry. A merchandiser always follow up with pattern and marker dept. That means if the pattern is accurate or not. Consumption is also calculate in this dept.
  • 12. FOLLOW UP WITH MATERIAL CONTROL AND SUPPLIER DEPT. All raw material and other logistics should be supply on time. This process is running accurately or not it should be checked by a merchandiser. So for this communication merchandiser can communicate with supplier or store room manager.
  • 13. Commercial dept. The commercial department involves with export and import raw materials and finished garments, manage and provide necessary export and import documents for smooth export- import process in garments manufacturing. Their role is very vital, deal with merchandising and accounts department for their working procedure. so a merchandiser always follow this with the commercial officer R&D dept. R&D (Research and Development) section plays a vital role to the overall production and quality of a fabric. The task of R & D section starts from fabrication and ends at final inspection of finished fabric. That is they used to follow up all the section like fabric planning, knitting, dyeing, printing, finishing, lab, quality control and assurance etc. till the final finished fabric comes out.
  • 14. Management dept. A merchandiser should follow up all the managerial concern people and distribute and update there duties with continuous basis Accounts dept. A merchandiser should Always connected with the accounts dept. because all the finnancial sollusion is done by this dept. Follow up with management and accounts dept.
  • 15. Follow up with finishing dept. In the apparel industry, finishing room is the last steps of garment manufacturing or assembling the operation are performed. After making complete stitched garments by sewing section, these are passed in finishing department for ironing, folding, poly packing, cartoning to get attractive appearance. All types of garments finishing activities are done here. So merchandiser should always take care about this .i mean if all the activities were done accurately or not.
