Name : Cayan Paul
Roll no : 22054335
Section : Bio M-06
Submitted To : Dr. Sreyashi Roy ( Assistant Professor of E. Engineering )
2. Objectives
• To know the history behind the discovery of magnetic resonance imaging.
• To understand the principles of MR imaging and the steps and basic
physics behind image acquisition.
• To understand the basic hardware and software involved in MR imaging.
• To elaborate the advantages, disadvantages and uses of MRI.
• To understand the safety issues associated with MRI.
• To familiarize with the latest application of MRI.
3. Introduction to MRI
MRI stands for Magnetic resonance imaging
Uses magnetic field & radio waves to create detailed images of
organs & tissues within the body.
● No ionizing radiation
● known as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
● Employs radiofrequency pulse ranging from 1 to 80MHZ
4. Basic MRI Hardware
■ Magnet
Large magnetic field that is homogeneous over a large area
Aligns protons in the body
■Radiofrequency (RF) coils Transmit and Receive RF energy into and from the
body
☐ Gradients
Induce linear change in magnetic field
Spatial encoding
Computer System and Console
Patient Handling System
