Story of Entrepreneur -A sweet shop to Banking journey.
He was born in 1960 at Bishalgarh in Tripura, India in a Bengali family. They were four brothers and two sisters in his family. His father, Hariprada Ghosh owned a sweet shop. He used to work with his father in sweet shop. And his mother uses to sell milk. In 1971 he was sent to his uncle place in Jorhat, Assam, who use to sell tea, snack in railway station. He finished his graduation and post graduation staying in missionary from Dhaka University. He completed his Master's in statistics from in 1984. His father passed away on the same year.

4. Chandra Sekhar Ghosh
He was born in 1960 at Bishalgarh in Tripura, India in a

Early life and Education
5. Achievement
He joined BRAC an NGO (non government organization) based in
Bangladesh as a program organizer in 1985. During working in NGO he
learnt about how poor people deal with micro credit, and what is their
behavior towards that.
Ghosh quit his job in 1997 and joined his family business later worked with
several NGOs in Tripura. Ghosh moved to Kolkata, joined Village welfare
society(VWS) and he quit that job also in 2000.
6. Achievement
At that moment he did not think of setting up any company or business. But
when he noticed that the rural peoples, daily vendors, labourers etc. who
take credit from moneylender in high interest rate(@ 300-700%) as they
can’t take from bank. Bank don’t give any credit to them as they don’t have
proper documents, guarantor, security, bond, etc. Then he thought of micro
finance.
7. Achievement
Ghosh formed a microfinance company in West Bengal,
called Bandhan, in 2001 to give tiny loans to help the
poor in Kolkata's suburban town. The company started
as a trust.
At the beginning he provided credit of Rs.500 to
Rs.10000 for starting any business and small
requirement on livelihood without much paper work. He
use to go village to village to educate people on credit
system and encourage them to repay through proper
monitoring and helping their works.
8. Achievement
He gathered 1.5 lakh from his relatives, friends, moneylenders and
started with 2 lakh. But within 3 months that fund was over as the
credit repayment period was one and half year.
He started collecting more fund for his company. He got 20 lakh
from Development Bank. Within next year he started two more
branches.
In 2009, Bandhan was registered as a non-banking finance company
(NBFC) and got finance from SIDBI and NABARD.
9. Achievement
Till 2003-04 Bandhan had 1143 credit holder, but now it
has 67 lakh credit holder.
Now he get fund from 30 Indian and International Banks. It
has expanded 22 state in india with it’s 2022 branches, the
biggest micro finance company
What makes Bandhan markedly different from its rivals is its ability
to run a low-cost operation and provide loans at the most
competitive rate in the microfinance space.
At present it lends at 22.4 per cent a year on reducing balance and
the transition into a bank will allow it to reduce its lending rate.
10. Achievement
He started his school to educate his creditor and their children, where he
gave basic education.
In 2010, became the first micro finance company to receive banking
license by RBI.
In 2014, Bandhan credit portfolio was 8000 crore with 13000 employees.
Till 2017, January deposit portfolio has risen to Rs. 29,000 crore with
19500 employees.
Two type of branches are operated now-
1) Bank branch (748no)
2) DSC microfinance office (1442 nos)
