Any condition of atmosphere in which the presence of certain substances
beyond certain concentration produce harmful effect on man, wild ,plants,
And there environment is called as Air pollution
Outdoor Air Pollution
•Smog
•Particulates
•Acid Rain
•Green House Gases
Indoor Air Pollution
• Tobacco Smoke
• Dust .etc
Pollutants are the substances produced by natural source or by human activities
Causes pollution.
1.Gaseous air pollutants:- Oxides of sulphur (SO2 & SO3), Oxides of
nitrogen (NO & NO2), Hydrogen sulphide,CO,CO2 hydrocarbons, Ozone
and Other oxidants.
2.Particulate pollutants:- The pollutant mixed up with air in liquid
or solid state in such a manner That they remain suspended for a long
period of time called particulates .
The pollutant mixed up with air in liquid or solid state in such a manner
That they remain suspended for a long period of time called particulates.
Rain water normally has a pH of 5.6 due to the reaction of rain water with carbon
dioxide present in the atmosphere. When the pH of the rain drops comes to less than
5.6 because of the reaction with oxides of sulphur and oxides of nitrogen present In
the Atmosphere so It becomes Acidic in nature.
The increase in average temperature of global air due to increased
greenhouse effect is called GlobalWarming. Now a days because of air
pollution there is excessive release of co2 in the atmosphere which leads
increase in average temperature of earth because of green house effect.
The destruction of ozone layer is because of ozone depleting substances like
CFC,Nitrogenoxide, chlorine, carbon tetrachloride etc. these substances are released
In the atmosphere by high flying jets, rockets, aerosol sprays and from refrigeration
industries. This substances are conversion ozone into oxygen. for example:-
NO2 + O3 NO + 2O2
(1) Ultraviolet radiation causes skin cancer.
(2) Exposure of eye to UV radiation may cause blindness.
(3) UV rays also destroys plant life.
(4) Ultraviolet radiation decreases the immunity of body.
Encourage activities like planting trees once a year among employees.
Improve machineries or manufacturing processes to reduce emissions from
factories.
Boosting performance of boilers can sharply reduce air pollution from factories.
Switching from coal, oil to natural gas to reduce pollution.
Monitor air quality in the industries periodically to identify irregularities .
We can control air pollution more by planting more and more trees.
