Presentation analysis the key compotents necessary for constructing an effective studio title and presenting a design of my own, along with an explaination of the background by which it's been inspired by.
2. Introduction
Most films begin with displaying the title, accompanied by a logo of the production studio which helped to acquire part of
the budget and was responsible for distributing the film. The film title’s main focus is to establish the time period and
genre of the film, along with the key themes and topics being explored in the story, the extent to which they are able to
implement these factors may often reflect the creativity of the actual film, though that may be a bit of a stretch in some
instances. Whilst the studio title on the other hand tends to be relatively bland, seemingly having not association with the
film’s genre or themes. Instead standing on its own as an independent identity. On rare occasions, the logo is visually
enhanced to convey those previously established elements, this is partly done in order to inform the audience and
essentially coexist with the film itself. The best logos allow for most variations, the A24 logo being a perfect example of
this.
3. Czechoslovak
New Wave
Memorable film studio titles are effective in their simplicity and ability
to communicate an idea and feeling effectively to the audience. The
title I designed for my short film was inspired by the Czechoslovak
New Wave which occurred in the 1960s and referred to group of
Czechoslovak filmmakers who’s films were a direct response to the
propaganda films and censorship of media by the Communist party.
At its very core, what they wanted was to see an authentic
representation of them and the Czech people on the screen. As
Milos Forman puts it: "To see real people, the real faces on the
screen.”
It was an era distinctly identifiable by its hight level of
experimentation with the form and a rebellious approach. Every
single one of those films felt like a breath a fresh air and the wave
itself along with the films being made gain serious respect and
recognition abroad as well. There was likewise a strong sense of
comradery and friendship among the different filmmakers and even
thought they made films with different subject matter, they always
supported each other. Most, if not all filmmakers who shared a role
in shaping the films present in the new wave were graduates of
FAMU, which helped to make the movement further more cohesive.
4. My aim for this studio title was to create a combination between a simple minimalistic style, a playful design and a
handcrafted feel. Representative of the New Wave’s authentic nature. Thereby serving a small homage of sorts.
