Shape Task
Shape Task
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the simplicity of the first image.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I think that I need to improve the detail in the shape tasks. I also struggled a
lot with the animal shape task, I don’t think that choosing the animal I did
was the best idea however I could have improved the colour contrast and add
more detail.
Rotoscope
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I really like the attention to detail in my images. The shadowing in the hair
and on the jacket really adds and make it look 3D.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would maybe add a few more details such as on the fingers, the shirt and
the face.
Film Quotes
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the shaping of the text to fit into the relevant image. I also like the
concept of the buildings with the alternative American flag as the background
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would redo the ‘rich’ by changing the font and making it a bit more obvious
by maybe making the letters all white.
Text Based
Text Based
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the look of the words with the lines through them as well as a smaller
gaps between the lines.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would try out some different fonts and textures to put in the background of
the text. I would also try to warp and shape the text a bit more.
Comic Book
Comic Book
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the images that are 50% black and white and 50% colour. I also like that
the colours were relevant to the image which has been edited.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would do more images that include colour and black and white, using
different colour combinations.
Photo Story
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the colour contrast between the images as I think that it helps to tell the
story. I also like the way in which the images are laid out.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would probably make it easier to work out the order of the images, I may
slightly change the layout and image sizes or add some cartoon, rustic arrows.
Illustration
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the simplicity and the use of only black and white. I think that it has
more affect and it looks good with the shading used.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would try a different object to draw which I think that I could do better. I
would also try out some colour and see if that looks good.
Narrative Environment
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the colours and textures used in the picture. It has a strange kind of
grunge/alternative feel to it which I like and find interesting. I particularly like
the trees.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would improve the layering and warping of the shapes, in particular to
improve the look of the water fall onto the mountains. I would also add some
more elements to make it even more interesting.

Story Overview
A group of animals go to space and land on a planet. Three animals (goose,
grasshopper, rabbit) get told to go out onto the planet to test its gravity. They then get
told to do a jumping competition by the king who is in the spaceship, whoever wins
gets a prize. The grasshopper jumps high but no one can see him as he is so small, the
rabbit jumps so high that no one can see him, the goose does a small jump but the
king says that he’s the winner as that’s who he saw. The goose then wins the prize and
shares it with the rabbit and the grasshopper as he knows that they both beat him.
Export Format
PDF
Advantages:
- It can be opened on any device with any operating system.
- It doesn't take up much space on your hard drive.
- It is fast and simple to create
Disadvantages:
- It is difficult to work with text in PDF files, because they are perceived as a picture.
Deadline
9th June
Audience
(Think about who you are targeting as your audience. Consider age, gender, class,
location and other characteristics which could define your audience.)
My audience is children aged 3-6 years. My book is going to be suitable for both
genders and any class. My book will be aimed at people who live in the UK as it will
be written in English and the book will be suitable for this culture. The book may
also be able to be sold in other English speaking countries such as the United States,
Australia, New Zealand, etc. The story is based on a Danish folk tale so there may be
interest for that area of the world however it isn’t in their first language.
Production Methods
(Explain the methods you are going to use to produce your pages. Show us the
thinking behind your decisions for a more detail response)
I am going to draw very simple shapes to show where I want all the elements of the
frame and how big I want them. I’m going to then scan that in and bring it up on
Photoshop where I am going to do rotoscoping to create my images. I chose this
method as I found it easiest to use and it allows me to add detail to certain
elements if I need to.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
The strengths of this proposal are that you have
clearly explained what you are going to do, I have a
brief idea of what your story if going to be like.
I also know how you are going to format this in the
best way possible that you can save easy and
change operating systems if you need to.
You could maybe describe your characters a little
bit more in your proposal, what are they wearing or
which planet are they on does the planet have a
name?
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
your mood boards give me a very good idea on
how your characters will look and the scene which
is quite nice to have that idea before you create the
book. I can clearly see that you know what you are
wanting to create and that you know what you are
doing as you have images that support your idea.
You could add some text in order to give more
details on what you want to create, maybe explain
why you have put each picture on the mood
boards.
You could expand more on your mind map, you
could add in pictures to show your ideas.
You could also say about what techniques you are
going to use and why.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Strong proposal, you have gone into depth on all
aspects of the book.
Focus on details in the story, but most ting are
covered.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
Good visuals of what the story will look like, very
interesting space theme.
More detail on the brain storm, go into further depth
on characters and other things you want to develop
in the story.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
A simple yet well done explanation of the story and
how your are going to show it and the amount of
information you have about your audience and your
production method that you will do this story justice.
The measurements are 29.7cm to 21cm for an A4
and more information about disadvantages of a
PDF file will further show knowledge and
capabilities with that format.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
The amount of research you have put into the mood
board is good as you have a lot of different
perspectives to work with.
There isn’t a lot of info about the design of the king
in the mood board and the mind map is a bit
shallow in certain areas like the audience and the
extra characters which aren’t that specific.
Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
Need to add extra information to the mind map. Include things such as more info on
other characters and locations.
My mood board and audience section is good.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I need to expand on the mind map by including some pictures and explaining in more
detail about the characters and environment which is in the book. This includes what
the inside of the spaceship looks like, the planets name, the kings visuals and any other
characters on the story. Can add annotations to the mood board.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
I am aiming for a square book not an A4 book.
Original Script
A Flea, a Grasshopper, and a Toy-goose once wanted to see which of them could jump highest, and so they invited the whole world and everybody else who
would like to come, to see the frolic. When the three met together in the room, everyone thought they were remarkable jumpers.
"Well, I'll give my daughter to the one who jumps highest!" said the king; "for it would not be fair to let these people jump for nothing!"
The first one to step forward was the Flea; he had such perfect manners and bowed on every side, for he had noble blood in his veins, and more than that, he
associated only with human beings, which makes a great difference.
Then came the Grasshopper; he was certainly very much larger, however, he carried himself well, and wore the green uniform he was born with. Moreover, as
he said, he belonged to a very old family in the land of Egypt, and was well thought of here at home.
The fact was, when he was brought out of the fields he was put in a house, three storeys high, all made of court-cards with the coloured side turned in; both
doors and windows were cut out in the waist of the Queen of Hearts. "I sing so well," he said "that sixteen native crickets who had chirped since they were
born, and still had no house of cards to live in, grew thinner than they were before out of vexation when they heard of me."
So it was that the Flea and the Grasshopper were able to give a good account of themselves, and saw no reason why they should not marry the princess.
The Toy-goose said nothing; and people thought it was because he knew all the more; the house-dog sniffed at him with his nose, and assured them the Toy-
goose was of good family. The old councillor, who had three orders given him for holding his tongue, said that the Toy-goose was a prophet; for one could see
on his back if there would be a severe or mild winter, and that was more than one could see on the back of the man who writes the almanacs.
"Well, I shall say nothing," said the king, "however I have my own opinion."
The trial was to take place at once, so the Flea jumped first. He jumped so high that nobody could see where he went to; so they said he had not jumped at all;
which was shameful.
The Grasshopper jumped only half as high; but he jumped right into the king's face, which, the king said was most unpleasant.
The Toy-goose stood still for a long time, thinking to himself; at last the people believed he would not jump at all.
"I only hope he is not ill," said the house-dog; when, pop! he made a side jump right into the lap of the princess, who was sitting on a little golden stool close
by.
Then the king said, "There is nothing above my daughter; therefore he has made the highest jump that can be made: to do this, one must have a good mind
and the Toy-goose has shown that he has a good mind. He has a mind of his own!"
And so he won the princess.
"It's all the same to me, she may have the old Toy-goose, for all I care," said the Flea. "I jumped the highest; but, in this world a fine appearance is what people
look at nowadays."
The Flea then went into a foreign land and enlisted, where it is said, he was killed.
The Grasshopper sat on a green bank, and thought on worldly things; and he said, "Yes, a fine appearance is everything—a fine appearance is what people
care about." And then he began chirping his melancholy song from which we have taken this story; and which may or may not be true, although it is printed.

I also struggled a lot with the animal shape task, I don’t think that choosing the animal I did was the best idea however I could have improved the colour contrast and add more detail.
  • 6. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I really like the attention to detail in my images. The shadowing in the hair and on the jacket really adds and make it look 3D. What would you improve if you did it again? I would maybe add a few more details such as on the fingers, the shirt and the face.
  • 8. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the shaping of the text to fit into the relevant image. I also like the concept of the buildings with the alternative American flag as the background What would you improve if you did it again? I would redo the ‘rich’ by changing the font and making it a bit more obvious by maybe making the letters all white.
  • 11. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the look of the words with the lines through them as well as a smaller gaps between the lines. What would you improve if you did it again? I would try out some different fonts and textures to put in the background of the text. I would also try to warp and shape the text a bit more.
  • 14. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the images that are 50% black and white and 50% colour. I also like that the colours were relevant to the image which has been edited. What would you improve if you did it again? I would do more images that include colour and black and white, using different colour combinations.
  • 16. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the colour contrast between the images as I think that it helps to tell the story. I also like the way in which the images are laid out. What would you improve if you did it again? I would probably make it easier to work out the order of the images, I may slightly change the layout and image sizes or add some cartoon, rustic arrows.
  • 18. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the simplicity and the use of only black and white. I think that it has more affect and it looks good with the shading used. What would you improve if you did it again? I would try a different object to draw which I think that I could do better. I would also try out some colour and see if that looks good.
  • 20. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the colours and textures used in the picture. It has a strange kind of grunge/alternative feel to it which I like and find interesting. I particularly like the trees. What would you improve if you did it again? I would improve the layering and warping of the shapes, in particular to improve the look of the water fall onto the mountains. I would also add some more elements to make it even more interesting.

  • 26. Deadline 9th June Audience (Think about who you are targeting as your audience. Consider age, gender, class, location and other characteristics which could define your audience.) My audience is children aged 3-6 years. My book is going to be suitable for both genders and any class. My book will be aimed at people who live in the UK as it will be written in English and the book will be suitable for this culture. The book may also be able to be sold in other English speaking countries such as the United States, Australia, New Zealand, etc. The story is based on a Danish folk tale so there may be interest for that area of the world however it isn’t in their first language. Production Methods (Explain the methods you are going to use to produce your pages. Show us the thinking behind your decisions for a more detail response) I am going to draw very simple shapes to show where I want all the elements of the frame and how big I want them. I’m going to then scan that in and bring it up on Photoshop where I am going to do rotoscoping to create my images. I chose this method as I found it easiest to use and it allows me to add detail to certain elements if I need to.
  • 27. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? The strengths of this proposal are that you have clearly explained what you are going to do, I have a brief idea of what your story if going to be like. I also know how you are going to format this in the best way possible that you can save easy and change operating systems if you need to. You could maybe describe your characters a little bit more in your proposal, what are they wearing or which planet are they on does the planet have a name? What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? your mood boards give me a very good idea on how your characters will look and the scene which is quite nice to have that idea before you create the book. I can clearly see that you know what you are wanting to create and that you know what you are doing as you have images that support your idea. You could add some text in order to give more details on what you want to create, maybe explain why you have put each picture on the mood boards. You could expand more on your mind map, you could add in pictures to show your ideas. You could also say about what techniques you are going to use and why.
  • 28. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? Strong proposal, you have gone into depth on all aspects of the book. Focus on details in the story, but most ting are covered. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? Good visuals of what the story will look like, very interesting space theme. More detail on the brain storm, go into further depth on characters and other things you want to develop in the story.
  • 29. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? A simple yet well done explanation of the story and how your are going to show it and the amount of information you have about your audience and your production method that you will do this story justice. The measurements are 29.7cm to 21cm for an A4 and more information about disadvantages of a PDF file will further show knowledge and capabilities with that format. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? The amount of research you have put into the mood board is good as you have a lot of different perspectives to work with. There isn’t a lot of info about the design of the king in the mood board and the mind map is a bit shallow in certain areas like the audience and the extra characters which aren’t that specific.
  • 30. Feedback Summary Sum up your feedback. Need to add extra information to the mind map. Include things such as more info on other characters and locations. My mood board and audience section is good. Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why? I need to expand on the mind map by including some pictures and explaining in more detail about the characters and environment which is in the book. This includes what the inside of the spaceship looks like, the planets name, the kings visuals and any other characters on the story. Can add annotations to the mood board. Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why? I am aiming for a square book not an A4 book.
  • 31. Original Script A Flea, a Grasshopper, and a Toy-goose once wanted to see which of them could jump highest, and so they invited the whole world and everybody else who would like to come, to see the frolic. When the three met together in the room, everyone thought they were remarkable jumpers. "Well, I'll give my daughter to the one who jumps highest!" said the king; "for it would not be fair to let these people jump for nothing!" The first one to step forward was the Flea; he had such perfect manners and bowed on every side, for he had noble blood in his veins, and more than that, he associated only with human beings, which makes a great difference. Then came the Grasshopper; he was certainly very much larger, however, he carried himself well, and wore the green uniform he was born with. Moreover, as he said, he belonged to a very old family in the land of Egypt, and was well thought of here at home. The fact was, when he was brought out of the fields he was put in a house, three storeys high, all made of court-cards with the coloured side turned in; both doors and windows were cut out in the waist of the Queen of Hearts. "I sing so well," he said "that sixteen native crickets who had chirped since they were born, and still had no house of cards to live in, grew thinner than they were before out of vexation when they heard of me." So it was that the Flea and the Grasshopper were able to give a good account of themselves, and saw no reason why they should not marry the princess. The Toy-goose said nothing; and people thought it was because he knew all the more; the house-dog sniffed at him with his nose, and assured them the Toy- goose was of good family. The old councillor, who had three orders given him for holding his tongue, said that the Toy-goose was a prophet; for one could see on his back if there would be a severe or mild winter, and that was more than one could see on the back of the man who writes the almanacs. "Well, I shall say nothing," said the king, "however I have my own opinion." The trial was to take place at once, so the Flea jumped first. He jumped so high that nobody could see where he went to; so they said he had not jumped at all; which was shameful. The Grasshopper jumped only half as high; but he jumped right into the king's face, which, the king said was most unpleasant. The Toy-goose stood still for a long time, thinking to himself; at last the people believed he would not jump at all. "I only hope he is not ill," said the house-dog; when, pop! he made a side jump right into the lap of the princess, who was sitting on a little golden stool close by. Then the king said, "There is nothing above my daughter; therefore he has made the highest jump that can be made: to do this, one must have a good mind and the Toy-goose has shown that he has a good mind. He has a mind of his own!" And so he won the princess. "It's all the same to me, she may have the old Toy-goose, for all I care," said the Flea. "I jumped the highest; but, in this world a fine appearance is what people look at nowadays." The Flea then went into a foreign land and enlisted, where it is said, he was killed. The Grasshopper sat on a green bank, and thought on worldly things; and he said, "Yes, a fine appearance is everything—a fine appearance is what people care about." And then he began chirping his melancholy song from which we have taken this story; and which may or may not be true, although it is printed. http://www.worldoftales.com/European_folktales/European_folktale_7.html
