Marilyn "Ning" Siy, former Accenture Senior Executive who also served as the Senior Executive Sponsor for Corporate Citizenship, particularly the Accenture Caring for Tomorrow (ACT) program, recalls a memorable fundraising for a school in Barobaybay in Lavezares, Northern Samar.
2. “Accenture Caring for Tomorrow (ACT) was
launched in 2006 as a commitment to care
for the communities where we live and work.
As a driver for our Corporate Citizenship
initiatives, ACT focuses on four main areas
namely, education, environment, livelihood,
and emergency relief. We strive to live the
core value of Stewardship and to make the
world a better place for future generations.
One of the most memorable projects of ACT
for me was when Accenture employees began
fundraising for a school in Barobaybay in
Lavezares, Northern Samar. The school was
“dying” because it lacked the funds to operate.
The kids were not sent to school because their
parents would rather let the children work on
the farms with them. When the funds came
in from Accenture, the tuition of the children
was subsidized and there was even enough for
teacher salaries too. I was fortunate enough
to have been able to visit the school because
when you meet the children from Barobaybay,
you can really see and feel their gratitude
for the help Accenture employees have given
them. [I was touched to know] that they all
start their morning prayer for Accenture
leaders and employees and for Accenture’s
continued success.”
