VA Standard of Learning
3.5 The student will recall multiplication facts through the twelve’s table, and
the corresponding division facts.
3.6 The student will represent multiplication and division, using area, set, and
number line models, and create and solve problems that involve
multiplication of two whole numbers, one factor 99 or less and the second
factor 5 or less.

LessonPlan Objective
Given manipulatives students will use equal groups and repeated
addition to show they understand the concept of multiplication facts
with 85% accuracy.
Universal Design/
Adaptations for
Diverse Learners
Students will be using a variety of resources such as the
smartbaord, interactive learning games to learn their multiplication
facts.

Repeatedaddition activity

Organizer/Introduction
Agenda:
1. Review repeated addition
2. Model Whole group repeated addition activity
3. Try it out!
4. exit slip
Describe and Model:
1. Review repeated addition.
Write the first problem on the board from the activity. The problem asks
the students to place 2 stars in each circle. Have students draw two stars
in each circle as I do on the board. Then ask students: We have how
many groups of what? (2 groups of 2). Fill in the numbers on the line as
students do so on their sheet. Then show that the multiplication problem
is 2 x 2. So two time two equals 4. Now let's look at the bottom line
where it says write a repeated addition sentence. We would write 2 + 2
=4 because if we look back at our picture we have 2 stars in each group
so we add them together to get our product.
- go over the rest of the front side of the activity as a class.
Having students repeat the process they did for the first
process.
- Students will complete the back of the repeated addition
activity by themselves.
-math and special education teacher will be walking around to
make sure the students are understanding the concept of equal groups
and provide further explanation to students as needed.
2. 4. Exit ticket
-give students the slip of paper that has a problem similar to what
we just went over. Explain to students we are solving this problem using
the same strategy that we did on our activity. Students needs to turn this
into the basket before they line up.
Supervised Guided
Practice
- Repeatedaddition Review (steps listed above, whole
group)
- Supervise/provide further explanation for students while
they work on repeated addition activity
Supervised Independent
Practice
Students will complete the back of the repeated addition activity on
their own where they will be drawing pictures to represent equal
groups then writing a repeated addition sentence to find their
product.
LessonClosing
Before giving students exit slip review the question: How are
multiplication and addition related? How can we use equal groups
to solve multiplication problems? The first number tells us how many
groups and the second number tells us how many in each group.
Exit ticket
-give students the slip of paper that has a problem similar to what we
just went over. Explain to students we are solving this problem using the
same strategy that we did on our activity. Students needs to turn this
into the basket before they line up.
Formative Evaluation Students will be evaluated by showing that they understand the
concept of equal groups and repeated addition by using repeated
addition to solve multiplication problems with 85% accuracy.
