Project proposal title and date:
Ocean’s Glow.
Main area of activity:
Video Game, Creation, Animation & Editing.
Rationale:
I have learned a lot about pixel art and animation on Photoshop in the past year. My skill has
improved and I am able to create unique character designs and interesting backgrounds. My
animation skills have improved as well, although some of my character movements aren’t realistic,
I know that there are a lot of frames needed and I’m a lot more patient and careful about what I’m
animating- making sure that details are correct. I still need improvement, but I’ve come a long way.
The courses over the year have highlighted what I’m most interested in and what I’m least
interested in. I was definitely most excited about the video game project and it’s the one I enjoyed
most, and I knew that enjoying what I’d be doing would help in my final major project.
Project Concept:
It will be a simplistic side scroller game, starting from the bottom and scrolling up instead of from
left to right. It will take place in the ocean, going from the deep and dark areas into the lighter
areas. I’ll make a simplistic background consisting of a few different colour changes and area
changes to show progress, as well as unique fish designs and of course the main playable
character, which will also be a fish. I’ll make a simplistic tune for the main game and a few sound
effects so that it’s not all one consistent background noise. There will also be an intro sequence
and a short character select to make the game look more detailed and realistic- I want it to seem to
work just like a real video game.
I’ll be researching various forms of aquatic life- both real and fictional. I’ll definitely take inspiration
from deep sea fish as they can look both beautiful and disturbing. I’ll be researching different parts
of the ocean to see what each area would look like, and the types of fish that swim in these areas.
Researching all of these will help inform my decisions of what type of fish I’ll be using and creating,
as well as how I decorate each area to look unique but realistic.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I’ll be evaluating my work throughout the process so that I don’t fall behind and I may ask for peer
feedback to see what my intended audience would think of my game. My self-reflection will
hopefully be concise and critical instead of overly opinionated. I’d like to look over my work with a
neutral eye instead of one that’s heavily biased in one or more aspects. I’ll also make sure to
compare it to existing games.

work on my Proposal for the game.
2 Research  Make a survey to send to other students and ask
for opinions, as well as looking at similar products
and opinions in the past.
3 Research  Experiment with different character designs and
colour co-ordination, and perhaps a short test
animation if I have time.
4 Pre-production & Planning  Work on any pre-production elements that are
needed and plan the schedule and timing for my
project.
5 Production  Character design and background design
6 Production  Further design of levels and any missing aspects
7 Production  Animation and sound design
8 Production  Editing together all aspects
9 Evaluation  Look over finish products and evaluate, mainly
solo but possibly with other people’s own
opinions.
