2. WHAT IS THE DEVELOPMENT COUNTRY?
• A developed country, industrialized country, more developed country, or more
economically developed country (MEDC), is a sovereign state that has a developed economy
and advanced technological infrastructure relative to other less industrialized nations.
Condition to be a development country :
1.Infant Mortality Rate:
The infant mortality rate varies a great deal between highly developed and developing countries.
On average, developing countries have an infant mortality rate that is 18 times higher than the rate
of developed countries. Unfortunately, not all children that are born will survive, and the rate of
survival can vary a great deal by the type of country.
3. 2.Total Fertility Rate:
One of the most important population characteristics of a country has to do with births. The total fertility rate is the
average number of offspring born to a woman in a population during her reproductive window. In developing countries,
the fertility rate ranges from between three and seven children per woman. On the other hand, the total fertility rate in
developed countries is normally between one and three children per woman. In general, these differences in total
fertility rates are due to varying levels of access to contraception and cultural practices.
3.Replacement-Level Fertility:
• Another important population characteristic that relates to births is replacement-level fertility. Replacement-level
fertility is the fertility rate that will result in the replacement of the parents in the population.
4.Economic :
Highly developed and developing countries are often compared based on economy.
Economic criteria have tended to dominate discussions. One such criterion is income per capita; countries with
high gross domestic product (GDP) per capita would thus be described as developed countries.
4. IS INDIA HAVE THOSE CRITERIA?
Unfortunately india have not those criteria to become a development country. After all India is the third largest economy
(based on Purchasing Power Parity) in the world just after USA and China. Ironically, the above crown fails to diminish
the fact that in the same India resides a third of the world’s poorest people (the highest for any country, according to
the Millennium Development Goals Report 2014). A major historical challenge that India has failed to rid itself of unlike
most other nations, who were at a similar stage or even worse at some or the other point in time.
5. CAN INDIA BECOME A DEVELOPED
COUNTRY AND HOW?
Development cannot be gauged by the number of vehicles on a city road or by the ultra-modernity
of a shopping mall in a metropolitan but by the magnitude of proportionate wealth distribution
across income classes or by the extent of accessibility to the needs of a healthy livelihood among
others.
Unfortunately, India finds itself to be far away from being developed (in its truest sense) and given
its present socio-economic fabric is not ready for chasing what the rest of the world calls the state
of being developed. It should rather focus on addressing the fundamental concerns of its people
that have long deserved attention before being competent enough to assert whether at all a
developed nation is what it wants the world to see itself as and whether it is in the common good
of all Indians.
