Unit 1: Communicating
with Employers
✤ Throughout this unit, I learned to apply myself in ways that I never
had before. Through the use of starting from the basics and formatting
a resume, cover letter, and thank you note, I learned a lot about myself. !
✤ Technical communication is key in the workforce. I learned that my
strengths in writing a resume are most definitely not formatting, but
providing a good amount of information and keeping my works short
and sweet. I learned that a resume is not about how long I make it, but
about the quality work I put in. I learned that when formatting a
resume, there are three ways to do so. These ways include
chronological, functional, and chrono-functional.!
✤ I learned the true meaning of technical writing being that it is words
and images that allow individuals to perform work. !
✤ I learned that technical writing can be resumes, oral presentations, user
guides, progress reports, instructions, and so much more. !
✤ I learned that when creating every form of technical communication,
content strategy is a huge factor. Content strategy is simply a plan for
handling content. Following a content strategy, an iterative process
needs to happen and use single sourcing which allows material to be
reused multiple times. This process has many different factors itself,
including project plan, team roles, research products, research users,
and research resources. I learned that after these factors, documenting
ecologies may be used for different audiences by recycling information
over and over.
