2. How did the become a pop star
In Richard Dyers theory there are many areas that need to be
covered for them to be a pop star according to Dyer one of
which is how did they become a pop star. The specific pop star
that I am choosing to base his theory on is Justin Timberlake, he
1st started off being in the New Mickey Mouse Club which got
him fame along with pop stars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera
who are now considered pop stars. Along with his album releases
he also featured in many magazine as well as being in many
premieres and being nominated for Grammy’s and also staring in
a few movies.
3. How they are constructed
Justin Timberlake is constructed in away that it makes him
appear normal to his audience, one of his unique selling points
(USP) is his dancing and this is shown in in many of his videos. He is
constructed in a way that people may copy or mock his dancing
which shows how much of an impact he has had. Justin
Timberlake is presented to his audience as a real person and this
shown in the style he has such as the clothes we wears is not
abnormal such as other artists like Lady Gaga.
4. Their industry and audience
Justin Timberlake was formed by the industry to make money and
his record company saw that there was no like him on the
market. The audience for Justin Timberlake are mainly teenagers
the reason for this is that they may find him attractive also the
record company may have thought that there are not many
people like him in the market so that thought there was a gap in
the market so he could have a niece audience. The record
company done this because they new that they would create a
likely artist that people would like and that his records would sell.
5. Their ideology and culture
Many of Justin Timberlake's fans see him as a role model and
many will copy his style and the things he does seeing them as a
norm as he is their role model. It is also important for the them to
be focal outside of their music and what they opinions on world
events so there audience gets to know more about them and
know what type of person they are. This is why social networking
sites are helpful such as Facebook and Twitter.
6. Their personality and character
Justin Timberlake as a character is conforming in the norms of
what a male should look like in society and like a stereotypical
pop star confident ,good looking and well liked. We has also
featured in many magazines and chat shows which has given
him the chance for his personality to come through to his fans. As
with many celebrities we often we then evolved in many
scandals and Justin Timberlake and has been exposed for having
many affairs which has been widely publicised.
