2. HISTORY OF SIKKIM
Sikkim was inhabited in pre-historic times by three
tribes namely Naong, Chang and the Mon. The
Lepcha who entered Sikkim later absorbed them
completely. The origin of Lepchas is shrouded in
mystery but it seems that they belonged to the clan
of the Nagas of the Mikir, Garo and Khasia hills which
lie to the south of the Brahmaputra valley. Some
believe they came from somewhere on the borders
of Tibet and Burma.

The Lepchas were a very peace loving people, deeply religious and
shy, which characteristics they still have retained. They were in fact
the children of nature, and worshipped nature or spirits of
nature. Some of them practiced shifting cultivation and raised grains
like maize and millets. Sikkim had retained guarantees of
independence from Britain when it became independent, and such
guarantees were transferred to the Indian government when it
gained independence in 1947. A popular vote for Sikkim to join the
Indian Union failed and Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal
Nehru agreed to a special protectorate status for Sikkim. Sikkim
was to be a tributary of India, in which India controlled its external
defence, diplomacy and communication. A state council was
established in 1953 to allow for constitutional government for the
Chogyal, which was sustained until 1973.
4. HISTORY OF DELHI

Delhi has a long history, and has been an important
political centre of India as the capital of several
empires.[1] Earliest coverage of Delhi's history is in
the onset of the Tomar's kingdom in the 8th century.
Since then, Delhi has been the centre of a succession
of mighty empires and powerful kingdoms, making
Delhi one of the longest-serving capitals and one of
the oldest inhabited cities in the world. It is
considered to be a city built, destroyed and rebuilt
several times, as outsiders who successfully
invaded the Indian Subcontinent would ransack the
existing capital city in Delhi, and those who came to
conquer and stay would be so impressed by the city's
strategic location as to make it their capital and
rebuild it in their own way.

For 457 years (736 to 1193 AD), Delhi was ruled by
the Tomar (or Tanwar) clan of Rajputs. It is the
longest period for which any known dynasty has
ruled over Delhi and surrounding areas.
The Delhi Sultanate is the name given for a
series of five successive dynasties, which
remained as a dominant power of Indian
subcontinent with Delhi as their capital.
During Sultanat period, the city became a center
for culture.[4] The Delhi Sultanate came to an end
in 1526, when Babur defeated the forces of the
last sultan of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi at the first
Battle of Panipat, and formed the Mughal
Empire.
