What is Data Masking
The process whereby the information in a database is masked or ‘de-identified’ “
is called as Data Masking
It enables the creation of realistic data in non-production environments without
the risk of exposing sensitive information to unauthorized users
Data masking ensures the protection of sensitive information from a multitude
of threats posed both outside and inside the organization’s perimeter
Also referred to as data de-identification, data depersonalization, data
scrubbing, data scrambling, data obfuscation, etc.
Masking should always be a irreversible process.
5. STATIC MASKING : Create a copy of master data and apply masking algorithm
DYNAMIC MASKING : Doesn’t create a separate copy perform masking
dynamically.

7. SHUFFLIING : shuffles the data within the same column
SUBSTITUTION: substitute data from a look up table
NULLING :substitute data with null or ******
User defined :Rules can be customized

8. Example of data masking: How the data looks like after
masking
EMPLOYEE NO EMPLOYEE NAME
1 SATYAJIT
2 BINEETA
3 AASHUTOSH
4 ROHIT
The original data:
After using masking techniques:
1. After Shuffling:
EMPLOYEE NO EMPLOYEE NAME
1 AASHOTOSH
2 SATYAJIT
3 ROHIT
4 BINEETA
2. After Substitution:
EMPLOYEE NO EMPLOYEE NAME
1 RAM
2 RADHA
3 AASHUTOSH
4 ROHIT
