IMPPORTANCE OF TRANSITION
ELEMENT IN HUMAN BODY
Maintenance Of Human Health And Vitality
Requires The Ingestion Of Trace Level Of
Numerous Inorganic Elements , Among Them The
Transition Metal Iron, magnesia ,Zinc, Cobalt ,
Copper , Nickel , Molybdenum, Vanadium And
Chromium . In General Transition Metal Are
Sequesters In Organ metallic Complexes With In Our
Bodies, enabling Their Properties To Be Controlled
And Directed Where Needed,
And Their Propensity To Promote The
Generation Of Harmful Reactive Oxygen Species
Is Minimized .
Transition Metals Are Key Components Of
Numerous Enzyme And Electron Transport
Protein As Well As The Oxygen Transport
Protein Hemoglobin And Hemocyanin.
 Zinc Finger Motifs Provide The Dna Binding
Domains For Many Transcription Factors .
 Fe-s In Many Of The Enzyme That
Participated In Dna Replication And Repair.
Transion metals are also found in our bodies .
Human excrete about 1 mg of iron every day
and must constantly have approximately three
grams of iron in their bodies. The iron is
mostly used as hemoglobin ,which transports
oxygen to the brain and muscles. Iron
deficiency, or anemia ,occurs when your body
does not have enough iron and causes one one
to become chronically tired. Cobalt is another
transition metal our bodies need . It is a
component of vitamin B12 which humans need
in their diet.
The transition element have hundreds of
responsibilities. They are key elements in life
and evolution. Without iron ,oxygen would not
make it to the brain and life would not exist.
The bronze ,iron ,and steel ages would never
have happened leaving us in the stone
age.Transition metal have become of utmost
importance due to our every growing
population and economy. Their demand will
continue as long as we know it continues.
Five Of The Ten First Row Transition Metals Are
Essential To Human Health, includind Magnese ,Iron,
Cobalt, Copper, And Zinc. Three More First Row
Transition Element Have Shown Some Beneficial
Biological Effect Including Chromium,vanadium And
Nickle.
Typically, These Metals Are Consumed In A Varied
Diet Or As Nutritional Additive Where ,In The Human
Body, They Serve Both Structural And Functional
Roles Including The Maintenance Of Cellular
Functions Involved In A Wide Range Of Biological
Activities.
HOWEVER, NORMAL FUNCTION REQUIRES THAT THE LEVELS OF
THE METAL IONS ARE MAINTAINED WITHIN AN ACCEPTABLE RANGE,
LOWER CONCENTRAION MAY RESULTS IN A NUTRIONAL DEFICIENCY
AND HIGHER CONCENTRAION MAY RESULTS MAY RESULT IN
TOXICITY.
IN ADDITION, THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF FIRST ROW ELEMENTS
, PARTICULARLY TITANIUM AND NICKLE ARE IMPORTANT FOR
PREPRATION OF NEW MATERIAL AND ALLOYS, RESULTING IN
TEWCHNOLOGICAL ADVANTAGES THAT IMPROVES THE QUSALITY OF
LIFE .
MAGNESE , IRON ,COBALT ,AND COPPER ARE THE FOUR ESSENTIAL
ELEMENTS THAT EXHIBIT RICH REDOX CHEMISTRY UNDER
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONDIOTIONS .THESE METAL IONS ARE ASSOCIATED
WITH MULTIPLE ENZYMES AND ARE INVOLVED IN MANY CELLULAR
REDOX PROCESSES.
IRON IS ESSENTIAL FOR HUMAN LIFE AS HEMOGLOBIN
AND AS INTRICATE PART OF RESPIRATORY ENZYME
,PARTICULARLY THOSE CONTAINING HEMES. THE
CHEMISTRY OF BOTH Fe(II) AND Fe(III) IS IMPORTANT
FOR BINDING AND FUNCTUION OF MANY OTHER REDOX
PROTEINS, INCLUDING NON-HEME PROTEINS.LIGAND
COORDINATION TO IRON IS IMPORTANT TO ALLOW THE
REDOX CYCLING WITHOUT THE INVOLVEMENT OF
FENTON CHE,MISTRY AND GENERATION OF
UNCONTROLLED ROS AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL.
Copper Is Involved In Function Of Many Redox
Enzymes As Well. Cu(i) , Cu(ii) , And Cu(iii) Are Bound
To Many Proteins And Cellular Components With High
Affinity.
Vanadium Compounds Were Developed As Insulin
Enhancing Agents. Current Studies Focus On Using
Vanadium Based Compounds As Anticancer Agents Which
Include Flavonoid Vanadium Complexes And Coordination
Complexes For Immunotherapy Applications.
Nickel Appears To Be An Important Part Of The Micro
flora In The Human Gut Where It Is A Cofactor For The
Enzyme Unease .
 Titanium Has No Known Biological Function Despite
Being Readily Transported In They Human Blood Where It
Readily Binds To Protein Such As Human Serum Albumin.
Titanium Metal Is A Common Component Of Alloy
Ranging From Dental Implants To Orthopedic P-prosthetic
And Many Clinical Trials Have Been Completed And Other
Are Underway.
Scandium Is Non Essential To Human Health And
Has No Known Biological Function In The Biosphere.
Its Low Abundance Has Precluded Many Studies
Until Recently.
First row transition metal play
several roles in biological processes
and in medicine , but can be toxic
in high concentration .
Thank You
