FISHERY refers to " all activities
relating to the act or business of fishing,
culturing, preserving, processing,
marketing, developing, conserving and
managing quality resources and the fishery
areas, including the privilege to fish
or take aquatic resources thereof"

NOTE: Philippine agriculture and fisheries account for
one-fifth (1/5) of the country's economy. Farm-size (2.04
hectares) subsistence farming or fishing farming
dominates the sector, majority of the rural poor.

into MARINE and INLAND.
• The total water area of the country is

, the shelf area is 184,000
km2 ,
the coral reef area is 27,000 km2

the coastline (length) is 17,460km2
.
• Swamplands is 246,063 hectares,
existing fishpond is 253,854 hectares
and other inland resources is 250,000
hectares.

COMMERCIAL FISHERIES (fishing with boats
weighing more than three (3) gross tons.
MUNICIPAL FISHERIES (fishing within 15km-
distance from the shore with or without use of
boats of three (3) gross tons or less
AQUACULTURE (fishery operations involving all
forms of raising and culturing fish and other fishery
species in FRESH, BRACKISH, and MARINE.
