Symbols are images with non-literal meanings; they stand for
something other than what they seem to be on the surface. It is
the use of symbols to signify ideas and qualities by giving them

3. Simile
3. Simile

A simile is used to compare two concepts or objects that are not
alike. They demonstrate how even items that are unlike have some
similarities. They also can be used to make a description
particularly vivid and arresting. Similes typically use “like,” “as,”
“than” or “resembles” to compare the two items.

4. Personification

allegories, personification enables readers and listeners to relate

5. Metaphor
5. Metaphor

a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one
kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a
likeness or analogy between them As a literary device, metaphor
creates implicit comparisons without the express use of “like” or
“as.” Metaphor is a means of asserting that two things are
identical in comparison rather than just similar.
