1. HOW TO BUILD A CV THAT
WILL GET YOU THE JOB
(OR AT LEAST AN ATTEMPT TO A GUIDE ON THIS SUBJECT)
2. INFO
So, what should be displayed in
my CV?
First thing, you should identify
yourself:
give your personal info (your
name, current address, phone
number, email address etc.)
4. Optionally:
▪You can put a summary at the
beginning of your CV *
▪An objective at the end
▪Or, if you have any and if you
find it relevant to the job you’re
applying for, any special skills
and abilities you might possess.
6. FORMAT
▪Use a more formal style
(concerning the language you
use, the font you use etc)
▪Make sure your CV is free of
spelling, grammar and syntax
mistakes
▪Be brief (I’ll come back to this
point later)
7. Then, make it
visually powerful:
▪Layout your CV so as for it to be
easy to read and to understand *
▪Emphasize important titles (use
bold, italics or underline them)
▪Use bullet points
8. Tips
▪Don’t give inappropriate or
irrelevant personal info
▪Be truthful *
▪Highlight duties instead of
accomplishments*- use action
verbs
(ex. responsible for – resolved)
▪Sell failure
9. …more tips
▪ keep it simple
▪Avoid info overload
▪Don’t leave off important info
(volunteerism, papers, marks,
seminars, hobbies)
▪Avoid long sentences
▪Find and use keywords
▪Put links and QR codes
10. But most
importantly:
Be Brief!
The CV of a twenty something
year old can’t be more than one
page or a bit longer.
Your CV has to be Relevant,
Concise and Focused
And be characterized by Clarity
and Definition
