Concept of knowledge
Literal Meaning-
 Epistemology is a branch of philosophy with deals with knowledge.
 Epistemology is derived from two Greek words :
 “Episteme” and Logy
 “Episteme” means knowledge and “logy” means science.
 Thus epistemology means science of knowledge
View of Swami Vivekananda : knowledge is inherent in every
man's soul.
View of William James : “ knowledge is another name for
practical achie An success”.
View of mimamsa philosophy-” valid knowledge is that which
gives knowledge of the meaning of an unknown object”.
View of Hobbes –”Knowledge is power”
Meaning of Knowledge-
1. Knowledge is that which is known
2. Knowledge is a information.
3. Knowledge is instruction.
4. Knowledge is learning.
5. The verb know means “Remember,
Recall, find out, discovery”.
Deep and detailed idea on a particular thing,
event place, person, or anything else. A
person who has knowledge on different
aspects of above mentioned items, can give
explanations on different aspects of a
particular item.
Meaning of Information-
The Term derived from the
verb “informare” (to inform)
in the sense of “to give
from to the mind”, “to
discipline”, “instruct”, “teach”:

 Information
 Basic idea on a particular thing,
event,place,person or anything
else. Information is collection of
some factors on the above
mentioned items.
 Ex- "The price of crude oil has
risen from $70 to $80 per barrel"
gives meaning to the data and so
is said to be information to
someone who tracks oil prices.
 Knowledge is a combination of
information, experience and insight that
may benefit the individual or the
organization. "When crude oil prices go
up by $10 per barrel, it's likely that
petrol prices will rise by 2p per liter" is
knowledge

and recognize the truth.
B. The ability to choose the
best action despite the
circumstances.
C. The ability to act with
good sense and virtue.
Wisdom-
Knowledge is measuring that a
desert is 15.6 miles long.
But
wisdom is packing enough water for
the hike

Wisdom
Information is processed data whereas knowledge is information
that is modeled to be useful. You need information to be able to
get knowledge. Information deals with the way data is related
while knowledge examines patterns within a given set of
information
Knowledge and wisdom are interconnected.
Knowledge is knowing and wisdom is understanding.
Knowledge is obtained but wisdom is developed.
Knowledge is power .
Both knowledge and wisdom need data and information.
There are many ways from where we can improve our knowledge as
follows:

  • 2. Literal Meaning-  Epistemology is a branch of philosophy with deals with knowledge.  Epistemology is derived from two Greek words :  “Episteme” and Logy  “Episteme” means knowledge and “logy” means science.  Thus epistemology means science of knowledge

The verb know means “Remember, Recall, find out, discovery”. Deep and detailed idea on a particular thing, event place, person, or anything else. A person who has knowledge on different aspects of above mentioned items, can give explanations on different aspects of a particular item.
