DIRECT METHOD AND GRAMMAR CUM TRANSLATION METHOD.

ENGLISH OR A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.
3. PRINCIPLES OF BI-LINGUAL METHOD
• MEANING OF DIFFICULT WORDS CAN BE MADE CLEAR BY MOTHER
TONGUE.
• NO NEED TO CREATE SITUATION FOR MAKING THE MEANING OF
ENGLISH WORD.
• IT IS IMPROVEMENT AND COMBINATION OF TWO OLD METHODS.
4. CHARECTERISTICS OF BI-LINGUAL METHOD
• Sentences is the unit of teaching.
• It emphasizes on creating situation.
• Mother tongue is used when it necessary.
• Rigorous practice is done in sentence.
• Rule of grammars are not taught separately.
5. ADVANTAGES OF BI-LIGUAL METHOD
• The time and labour of the teacher is saved.
• It is less costly and suited all type of schools.(rural and urban)
• The method does not need trained teacher.
• An average teacher of English can teach successfully through this method.
6. DISADVANTAGES OF BI-LINGUAL METHOD
• This method is still an experimental stages.
• Student are like to develop an undesirable habit
of language.
• It is not so useful in teaching secondary
and senior secondary classes.
