Baresesha is derived from the original greek word, meaning an
immediately effective medicine.the name barsesha has been imputed
to the medicine as in eastern medicine it is regarded as a effective

Halwa literally means something sweet or sweet meat, in its general
implication a halwa is that sweet which is prepared from

Zimadat is the plural of zimad(paste, poultices).it is generally a thick,
viscous liquid which is applied as a poultice to external organs or on

therefore means ”killed or conquered”in the tibbi terminology. kushta is
employed for a medicine that is used in small quantities and one that is
immediately effective.a kushta is a blend of metals, metallic oxides,non-
metals and their compounds or minerals.the ingredients are oxidized
through the action of heat. a process that is rather specialized. the
preparation of kushta results in the efficacy of a medicine and after
effecting its entering into the body, the kushta discharges its curative role
promptly and effectively.

5. NAUSHDAROO;
(digestive medicines) is a preparation specially employed as a digestive
and stomachic. a kind of majun, it has main ingredients emblica
officanilis
MUFFAREHAT(EXHILIRANTS)
They are (singular, muffereh) are such majuns as are employed as
exhilirants.they are also prescribed as cardiac stimulants and general
tonics.
MAJUNAIN(CONFECTIONS,ECTUARIES)
.majuns are the semi-solids which have been prepared from the qiwam of
white sugar or honey and a medicinal sufuf..
MARHAMAN;
Is a semi-solid substance which is prepared from the sufufs of more than
one ingredients ,wax and oil. it is generally used in the treatment of
external inflammation,swelling,wounds,cuts,boils,abrasions,pustules.

6. The following measures should be observed in the preparation of habub;
)he sufuf from which the habub are made should be as fine as possible.
if the pills comprise pearls and minerals ,the latter should be triturated seperately
and added to the sufuf made from the other constituents.the mixture should be
triturated again,mixed with a liquid,and habub should be obtained from its
according to the reciepe.
if musk and saffron are to be added to a particular hab,they should be triturated
seperately in an arq and added to the sufuf prepared from the other constituents.
if ambar or mastic (mastagi)are included in a reciepe,they should be heated in
slight quqntities of ghee and added to the sufuf. alternatively.must with should be
ground and mixed with the sufuf.
if the sufuf from which the pills are to be made happens to be too fine and its
diffucult to prepare pills from it,the sufuf should then be kneaded with gum and
pills prepared from it.
if the medicine from which the pills are made contain such constituents as berberis
aristata(rasaut),balsamodenon ,gugulla (guggul),opium or te like ,it should be first
soaked in water, and heated till .it dissolves the sufuf made from the other
constituents is added to them later and the mixture is kneaded, after which pills
may be obtained.

7. )n the event of some viscous or sticky constituents being present in the medicine,
the preparation of pills might offer some diffuclty .in such a case ghee should be
rubbed on the hands,or starch is kneaded and pills obtained.
if among the constituents of the pills ,are included such members as strynchous
nuxvomica (kuchala),aconitum ferox(mithatilia)etc.they should be corporated into
the pills in sterict accordance with the instructions given in the reciepe.
if oily constituents are to be included.they should be finely ground.
if large quantities of pills are required,it is desirable to prepare them from achines.
it is advisable to allow pills to dry in the sun,wet or dry pills are an easy target for
fungal attack.
Pills can be made decorative by being coated with the gold or silver foil.bitter pills
can be made to mask their taste by covering the pill with an outer coating of sugar
as in grams and many other edibles

8. The qiwam of a khamira is usually thicker and more concentrated than
that of a juice or sharbat. when the qiwam is properly formed, stirring is
effected after taking ,it off the fire till its colour becomrs white or
whitish, after which the other ingredients are added together with gold or
silver foil.
When the khamira is stirred carbondioxide from the air reacts with it and
it swelling likes khamir .hence it name each khamira is generally named
after its main ingredients e.g. khamira abresham ,khamira goazaban etc.
Khamira is the invention of the latter day tabibs,during the mughal days
the nobility usually tended to refrain from bitter medicines,hence
palatable medicines and the khamiras came into vogue,which are
characterized both by their palability &attractive odour.

9. Hamdard has initiated many a scientific technique in the manufacture of hamdard technique
for the preparation of rub, likewise offers a mass production method, this consists of obtaining
firstly the juice of the fruit or vegetable by means of a crusher.sugar in the porportion of 37-1/2
percent by weight of the juice is added to the juice and the mixture placed inside a vaccum pan
or evaporator.multiple placed inside a vacuum pan or evapourator .multiple-effect evapourator
would, however ensure greater steam economy and production. after opening the steam valve,
the vacuum and steam are so controlled that the pressure inside the pan is 20-30hg and the
temperature is 40-45 degree celcius.the juice,by the qiwam reaches 72 percent, the vacuum
plane is that off and the rub spilled into bottles by opening the lower valve.5g of sodium
benzoate and 15 ml of distilled water or aqua on brocteatum kilo of the rub are added to ensure
that the preservation of rubs last for years.another easy and less expensive method for the

10. Sufafat;
It is noun plural of sufuf which is dry medicament or a mixture of
several medicinal ingredients which have been ground or
triturated &sieved .sufuf is also called churun and phanki (the
former being an ayurvedic word),but the word “churan”is applied
to the sufuf which is essentially digestive and has as its principle
ingredients inorganic salts(namakiya).sufufs which are used for
dentrifical purposes are sumunat,and those that are employed in
occulitics are called kuyl or surma(collyrium).according to the
