3. Sci-Fi
• Slow pan camera shots to reveal the setting and the plot to the
audience. Close up shots on new or futuristic technologies that show
what genre it is.
• Shots are slow then and quick and closer together to show pace, and
the plot usually follows the same pattern of a slow peaceful beginning
and then something disturbs the peace resulting in chaos.
4. Horror
• Slow camera panning, acting as a establishing shot, setting the scene.
Close ups of reactions of characters. Quick shots, used through
editing.
• Dark lighting. Some extreme bright lighting. Lighting used for effect to
bring the audience’s attention to an object of significance.
• Setting, usually a remote location with a mysterious building of sorts,
e.g.. Abandoned building, old house.
• Sound: slow creepy, sometimes childish music, to build tension.
Silence is often used and creates a big impact.
5. Comedy
• Props of very often used in comedies and sub genres such as
romantic comedies, and action comedies. Props such as alcohol, are
used to be able to enable characters to act different and much more
humorous. (For example The Hangover.)
• Character types in comedies often consist of a main character, who is
looking to overcome some obstacle or situation, surrounded by other
characters who provide a more comedic influence.
• The music in comedy films is usually upbeat, and often lively to
imitate what is occurring on screen.
6. Action
• Props for the action genre are usually expensive cars, guns,
helicopters etc. So this would be hard to recreate and produce myself
as the props would not be easily accessible and would require a larger
budget.
• Music plays an important role in action films as it is usually loud and
upbeat to reflect the action on screen and the pace of the editing.
Music plays a vital role in helping to exaggerate the on-screen action
and make the film seem more thrilling.
• Locations generally include cities and well populated areas.
