This document analyzes genre conventions in backwoods and redneck horror films. It identifies several common conventions: 1) Films typically begin with a group of people or young adults traveling together in a happy manner. 2) A girl is often left alone and vulnerable, separated from the group. 3) The films are set in remote, secluded locations well known to the better equipped antagonists who live there and attack the protagonists for no clear reason.

In every Backwoods and Redneck film we have seen the protagonist always travel
in a group of people. The group usually consist of a family, or young adults.

There are both convection on the protagonist and the antagonists.

Freaks are often characters which are
very unusual and look very disturbing,
and you would always see them in

The hills

There is always one innocent girl which
is just in the wrong place at the wrong
time. She is often hunted by the freaks
and survives different types of horror.
Just as the innocent girl there are always
people who die without deserving it.
Their death is usually very bloody and
they tend not to live to the end
