The document discusses how the opening film uses genre, narrative, and style to attract the audience. It establishes the genre as a teen film set in college by using a montage of clips around the college. It slowly introduces the first location and characters through pans and tilts. It hooks the audience by setting the scene in a college setting but creates disequilibrium by showing a character holding a knife, suggesting a horror genre.
2. How my opening film uses genre
• Here we see another shot of the
college but in a class room , this
then all set’s the scene and the
narrative of who the main
characters are.
• The decisions about genre to attract the
audience can be seen here were we use a
montage of clips around the college to
suggest that the genre of this film is teen ,
it helps us build up the idea that this film
is set in college and that we will be able to
see all things that happen in college.
3. How my opening film uses narrative.
• The opening sequence includes
pan’s and tilts which help’s us have
a slow tempo to a our film.
• The clips are put in a montage to
help us see each bit of the school,
we then enter the first location of
which we get to see our characters
together.
• Only later on we see that we reach
a disequilibrium (a change of
events) where one of the
characters takes out a knife and
holds it at the door.
4. How my opener use’s style.
• The style of the film
hooks the audience
immediately as we
see a college
setting which helps
to understand story
• It also makes the
audience think
about what is going
to happen in this
school setting as
the film title
suggest a horror
film.
