2. Who I am working with…
• I am working alone for A2 media, which I
explained in my previous post as to why etc.
• By working alone, the work load is a lot harder,
and requires me to constantly be on top of work,
rather than relying on my peers which other
groups can do if they have a busy week.
• To over come this I need to ensure I organise my
week and prioritise work for all my subjects
rather than going to work and out.
3. What Genre do I want to do?
• I have chosen to do a horror – this idea came
when I was walking down my road one night, as
there’s lots of fields all around me, and I’m near
woods it is quite scary when dark therefore I
thought I could make my ideas into a trailer, and
that be my genre.
• Other than that I was originally doing comedy
and I would prefer to do that but by my situation
and my friends who are featuring in my trailer,
horror is more suited.
4. What are the conventions of your
genre? How will I accommodate to
them in filming?
• My film genre is designed to scare people, to make them
jump or even hide. To do this I need to include quick cuts in
my edits, I need to ensure the special effects make up is top
quality, the use of low lighting adds that scary effect.
• The actual codes and conventions of a horror are…
• Secluded location
• Power is cut
• Strange noises
• Running in wrong direction due to panic
• Victim often falls
• Vehicle wont start
• Stormy night
• X years before or after
5. What are the conventions of a trailer,
how are these different from an
opening title sequence?
• A trailer, is like a trial to a film. It shows the audience key
scenes all jumbled up so that they get an idea of what will
feature, but can’t guess or make up the storyline as the
trailer isn’t in order. On the other hand an opening title
sequence is the first 2-10 mins of a film.
• Codes and conventions of a trailer…
• Film production logo
• Film title
• BBFC age rating
• Features main characters
• Music and/or voice overs
• Usually between 1.30 to 2 mins
• Release date of film
6. Who is my trailer aimed at?
• My trailer is aimed at teenagers mainly as young
children wouldn’t obviously be allowed or would
want to watch this sort of film nor trailer, and a lot
of elderly people wouldn’t either, where as a lot of
teenagers are fearful and enjoy the edge of your
seat feeling.
7. How will my trailer appeal to my target
audience?
• To make my trailer appeal to my target
audience I will have to make it as scary as
possible, as I previously mentioned teenagers
enjoy the thrill and fright hence why they’re
rebellious and do the things that no other age
group does.
• I will use teenagers in my trailer as well, so
that it relates back to them, and hopefully
scares them more, as that’s the whole point of
my trailer.
8. Production company name
Here I will brainstorm a few of potential production
company names.
Potential
company names
for my trailer
Varney
productions
HTVL
productions
HS productions
HTL productions
FSS
Productions
The production name I have chosen for my
media a2 coursework is HTVL productions,
which is my initials. This is easy to
remember and links back to me.
Fearful productions
VSHS
Productions
9. The design of my ident and slogan for
my production company
The reason I chose this design, as it looks effective. My plan is for it to be cut out (no
background), and to move hopefully, if not to be placed in a position that’s effective and
seen.
10. Potential titles for my film
Below I will brainstorm ideas for the title of my film
Potential titles
for my film
Why my
house?
The House in
a busy street
The house beginning the
street
The Move
The host
The title for my film that I have chosen is
Endline, this is a metaphor connoting that
the end of the line usually means death.
Psycho
Endline
11. BBFC rating for my film/ trailer
• The BBFC rating for my film is a 15, this is because,
firstly its aimed at teenagers, now I know teenagers
start at 13, but older teenagers who wouldn’t be as
affected by it.
• Secondly for what will be featuring I could make it a
12A but even then I don’t agree someone so younger
even when accompanied by an adult should be
watching this sort of movie.
• Finally I chose this age rating based on BBFC’s website
and the age rating for other horrors that have been
made.
12. Who will be in my trailer, and why?
• Seeing as I’m working alone, I have chose for my friends who are
outside of Shirley High sixth form to feature in my trailer. They all
go to the same school, therefore we can all meet up easily and all
have talents which can benefit my ideas for my trailer.
• Firstly is Reece, he did GCSE drama as well as currently doing A-
Level. He has achieved a lot in drama and wants to go further in it
when leaving sixth form.
• Secondly is Lucy, Lucy is amazing at doing make-up, especially
special effects. She does festival make-up, day to day, going out
and horror stuff for Halloween as such.
• Finally is Zoe, Zoe lives opposite a park, which has an alley way and
loads of tree this will help with the location of my filming. She is
also very reliable hence why I know she’ll help whenever she can
for the filming of my trailer.
13. What locations will I use and why?
• The location for my trailer, I am most excited about. I have
numerous ideas for the locations my trailer will be filmed.
• Firstly the woods and fields at the end of my road, these are
extremely scary to walk down when it’s dark. There is also
currently a house being built right next to the entrance which
could be a benefit in my filming.
• Secondly is the woods near my sixth form, I used to live behind
them therefore I know them well, and they have a lake in the
middle of so this could come in handy.
• Thirdly, Zoe lives near a park which has an alleyway, and trees all
around helping to make my trailer scary.
• Finally Lucy lives near a park too which is open but has a play area
in similar to Zoe therefore I could use here as a trailer needs to be
filmed in numerous locations so there are some.
• I also will be using my house as well as side streets for different
scenes as it won’t be dark throughout the trailer.
14. Anything else I need to do before I
begin my trailer
• I need to gather different ideas for short clips
featuring in my trailer, no clip will be longer
than 10/20 seconds therefore I need to gather
numerous ideas together.
• I need to ask those who are featuring in my
trailer any ideas they have.
• Before getting ideas I need to think of a
storyline I will be following and re-ordering in
my trailer.
