Music poster analysis #2
1. Music Poster Analysis #2
This poster is a promotion for a Mumford & Sons concert in Tennesseeat the
Bonnaroo Music Festival in 2009
The poster has an old fashioned/folkystyle towards it with the fancy borders; this is a
semantic code to suggest it will be a folky gig with folk-like music. It fits with the
bands ethos as they use folky instruments as well which are all shown in the poster as
the central image and by making it the poster completely central, it makes the poster
aesthetically pleasing. It appears to be asilhouette of Abraham Lincoln which is very
iconic as it shows patriotism, his silhouette has the bands instruments inside him.
They have used Abraham Lincoln as the gig is occurring at the same town as
AbrahamLincoln’s museum, this also connotes that they are trying to recreate music
in that time zone but the whole use of Abraham Lincoln in this poster is a use of the
Hermeneutic/Enigma Code as it is not explained why he is on this poster. The poster is
symmetrical givinga simplistic feel to it and it brings focus to the central image. The
central image is separated from the band name, date and location.
The colours used are white and turquoise, using only two colours makes it very
simple which contrasts with the complexity of what the actual poster is. The colours
contrastas well which allows the audience to clearly depict the images
