Editor's Notes
We never found a tariff structure that the PPM could not cope with, but because of the uncertain times we have basically doubled the existing structure ie, 16 Time of use registers 8 Maximum demands (& cumulative) registers 12 seasons 96 switching times Independent day control 64 Exclusion dates Deferred tariff structure The deferred tariff is a complete replicate, including display format and relay operation

The load profile data storage has been increased significantly. This should allow the flexibility of annual reads or the ability to log all channels for 31 days. The integration period is variable thus giving the product the ability to be used in many different markets. The short integration periods can be used to allow detailed monitoring or to speed up initial testing of the meter. The meter can be programmed to use sub-intervals The load profiling can be configured to store any of the measurement values within the meter and also if the input module is fitted it can store any of these 4 inputs

An important new feature is the addition of instantaneous instrumentation. This provides per phase information, thus allowing the meter installer to check that each phase is connected correctly. The values can be assessed either locally or remotely, this means that any customer queries can be answered without costly site visits.
The communications over both ports has been increased to operate at upto 9,600 baud, but the meter can still communicate at any standard baud rate below this. We have introduced a more efficient protocol modem friendly flag onto the serial port so communications particularly over Paknet have been improved The Local port utilises IEC1107 and is fully CHIRPS compatible. The Flag probe can be attached directly to the meter or to the flip lid. For remote communications a cost-effective module can be added, these possible methods will be discussed more in the next section.

The vision meter allows two modules to be fitted. Firstly the communications module, this allows you to provide cost effective communications to external systems. And 2ndly the input/ Output module this allows you to enhance the functionality of the Vision meter by turning it into a multi-utility device either transmitting or recieveing information
All the modules have the following features, they can be inserted into the meter without removing power, therefore not interrupting the customers operation The certification of the meter is not affected by the insertion of a module Once the modules are inserted the meter recognises the module type and the this information can be displayed on the LCD, this helps the installer by giving him the reassurance that the module has been recognised by the meter and is functioning. As further reassurance on future visits the type of module can be identified by simply raising the flip lid and looking at the identification through the Viewing apperature We are launching the product with 4 module types, But we will be happy to work with yourselves to develop customer specific modules to match your particular requirements
The first type of module is an Output module. This can be used in addition to the 4 optional outputs on the meter itself, therefore allowing the customer to have upto 8 outputs. The outputs on the module are ‘normally-open’, 2 are mercury wetted and 2 are solid state. By providing this combination of outputs we hope you can meet all your requirements without the use of additional external relays. The relays, both on the meter and on the modules, can be programmed to perform a wide variety of function:- They can retransmit information from any of the internal measurement registers, ie, Kwh import/export, 4 kvars quadrants, KVA, or customer defined registers. The retransmission rate is programmable to match the needs of the receiving equipment. We can also retransmit two synchronisation signals, one for EoB and one for EoI this ensures that any external equipment data matches that provided within the meter. We can also retransmit any combination of the monitored features from within the meter, this includes Phase failure, Reverse running, overcurrent alarm, battery monitoring and Programming event. A new feature is to allow 1 of the relay to be usedas a power outage monitor for this the relay is normally closed and will opened when the power to the meter is removed
The input module allow the Vision meter to be turned into a Multi-utility monitoring devise. 4 external meters can be connected to the module. The external meters can have either clean contact or transistor type outputs and module will detect the signal. The external meter can be anything that provides this type of output ie, Gas, water, electricity (either electronic or electro-Mechanical) or Heat meter. The Vision can be programmed with the pulse value of the external meter, so the information stored and displayed can be in the same units as the external meter. We have not gone for the cheapest implementation of ‘inputs’ but we have provided what we believe is the most effective solution for you. There is a battery on the module, this means if power to the Vision meter is removed then the module will still continue to collect pulses from the external meters. Also the inclusion of the battery means that the input circuit needs no additional energy supply, therefore the output terminals from the external meter can be wired directly into our input terminals.
For communications we have developed 2 modules, the first is an integral modem, this provides for a cost effective solution as an RS232 interface is on longer needed. This can be used in either ‘normal ring’ or CLI mode. CLI stands for Caller Line Identification. The module has a very low REN and as such should not affect your existing telephone network. Both modes of operation can be used with ‘Timed response’, this means that the modem can be programmed to only answer call between predetermined times eg, 11pm and 6am If CLI mode is used then the Vision meter can communicate using the customers existing phone line, therefore reducing installation costs and line rental costs. CLI works by recognising the incoming call number and if this it is one of the programmed number in the modem then it will grab the line before other phones, on the line, ring. The modem can be programmed to recognise 8 incoming numbers and can also use Wild cards to extend that range. This technology has the advantage that it does not interfere with the customers operation at all ie, if the customer wished to make a call while the meter is communicating then the modem will drop the line, similarly if the customer is already using the phone when you try to communicate with the meter the customer is still given priority.
The RS232 module allows you to connect to any standard RS232 device, such as a PC, paknet or an OEM modem. This allows you maximum flexibility for utilization an existing communications networks. The RS232 module also provides the facility for multi-dropping this means a single communications point can be used to communicate to many meters, thereby reducing overall communication costs The serial port now can operate at 9,600 baud thereby reducing communications times.
