TOUCHMARK ON WEST PROSPECT
September 2014
A grand opening!
“Wow!” “This is really nice!” “How beautiful!”
These were common remarks as people toured the just-completed Meadows at Touchmark during last month’s grand opening.
Residents are now moving into the memory care neighborhood. “Several are now neighbors with friends they haven’t seen for a while,” says Resident Care Manager Joan McLeod, R.N. “It’s a very joyful atmosphere.”
Design for the Meadows at Touchmark draws on the latest research and incorporates various therapeutic features, such as color, light, nature, and way-finding. “As a result, our memory care neighborhoods feel like an inviting, stylish, and comfortable home,” says Executive Director Barb Pandolfo.
There are three neighborhoods in the Meadows at Touchmark: two for memory care and one CBRF-Level assisted living. Each has its own kitchen; living room; and areas for dining, activities, music, and art. The three neighborhoods share a hair salon, spa bath, family meeting room, secure outdoor courtyards, and commercial laundry.
Touchmark’s new CBRF-Level assisted living services will open Oct. 1.

Join us: Active Aging Week
The month of September is Healthy Aging® Month, and during the last week—Sept. 21 through 27—we are again hosting many activities to celebrate Active Aging Week. This year’s theme is Let the Adventure Begin! to celebrate the joy of living a full life.
Promoted by the International Council on Active Aging, the week focuses on the many positive things that people can do to change the way they age.
Look for a full list of events in the community calendar.
Executive Director Barb Pandolfo joins in the ceremonial ribbon cutting.“This is truly a banner day for Touchmark and its residents. I am honored to share it with you all.”

A butterfly ice sculpture greeted guests. Butterflies are a symbol for Alzheimer’s awareness.
Residents Jackie Bertram (Friendship ambassador) and Neal Gamsky (Resident Council president) join in the joys of releasing a butterfly.
Barb Pandolfo (right) presents a $5000 donation to Kim Kinner, executive director of The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Wisconsin Chapter. Touchmark’s donation will help sponsor the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” October event!
A picture truly does speak 1,000 words! Pam Murphy, Life Enrichment coordinator of The Meadows at Touchmark and Clyde Jones had an absolute blast releasing their Monarch! “I’m just so excited to take on the role of Life Enrichment Coordinator. Watch us fly, just like the butterflies!”
Discovering the joy in enjoyment!
Joy! It plays a key part in the celebration and enjoyment of what we call the {FULL} Life. From spending time with friends and family to participating in events and outings, you can discover a fun, full lifestyle at Touchmark. Visit us today, and learn more.

At Touchmark, we think a lot about the aspects of wellness and aging well. As many know, there are some fundamental guidelines for healthy aging, such as don’t smoke, get regular exercise, eat healthy foods, control weight, socialize, and keep learning.
Recent research also suggests that having a “sense of purpose” in life may help us live longer. Researchers found that individuals who reported having greater purpose in life had a 15% lower risk of death than those who said they were more or less aimless. Furthermore, the benefits of having a sense of purpose apply to all ages (Hill and Turiano).
At Touchmark, we are intentionally purposeful. Each day, we endeavor to radiate Touchmark’s long-held values of teamwork, service, integrity, compassion, and excellence. These values are reflected in the Touchmark Full Life—from the homes we design and build, the programs and services we provide, and the relationships we nurture.
As I reflect on the elements of a purposeful life, I recall the poem The Dash, by Linda Ellis, which can be found on the Internet. Basically, the poem describes the dash that is etched in a tombstone between a person’s birthdate and death date. The dash represents all of one’s activities and contributions.
Let’s live “the dash” and make a difference. Take advantage of all Touchmark has to offer. A PURPOSE{FULL} life is filled with rewards—for you and others.

  • 1. THE{FULL}LIFE TOUCHMARK ON WEST PROSPECT September 2014 A grand opening! “Wow!” “This is really nice!” “How beautiful!” These were common remarks as people toured the just-completed Meadows at Touchmark during last month’s grand opening. Residents are now moving into the memory care neighborhood. “Several are now neighbors with friends they haven’t seen for a while,” says Resident Care Manager Joan McLeod, R.N. “It’s a very joyful atmosphere.” Design for the Meadows at Touchmark draws on the latest research and incorporates various therapeutic features, such as color, light, nature, and way-finding. 1.
