The Perfect Tense
The Perfect Tense The stem for the perfect tense comes from the third principal part.
postulo, postulāre, postulāvi Cut off the final “i” from the third principal part and that will give you what is called the perfect stem.  This is true for any verb in the Latin language. The perfect stem for postulo is postulav-.
Perfect Endings In order to form the Perfect tense in Latin, take the perfect stem and add the PERFECT endings.  These are different from the endings used for the Present and Imperfect.  The perfect endings are:
The Perfect Tense postulo, postulāre, postulāvi – demand postulav- is the stem
To translate the perfect tense use simple past (-ed), have, has or did. servavi- I protected 	    I have protected 	     I did protect servavisti – you protected 		you have protected 		you did protect
The Perfect Tense edo, edere, edidi– eat edid-- is the stem
