Famous sites and monuments of Ancient Rome As a Latin student, you should be familiar with the most famous sites of Ancient Rome.  Those sites would include the Colosseum			the Temples 	The Roman Forum		the Baths 	The Circus Maximus Let’s look at each of these briefly.   You will learn more about them later in the course . .
The Roman Forum The Forum was the economic and political center of the city of Rome. The Senate house (the Curia) and many temples were located in the Forum. Many politicians gave speeches in the Forum from the famous speaker’s platform (the Rostra).
Buildings in the Forum today The Senate House –   The Curia The temple of Vesta The temple of Saturn
The Colosseum The Colosseum, otherwise known as the Flavian Amphitheater was built by the emperors Titus and Vespasian. The Colosseum held 50,000 spectators and was used for gladiatorial fights and other public shows.
Looking at the inside of the Colosseum today, you can see the floor (lower right corner) and the levels under the floor for the gladiators and the animals.
The Circus Maximus was where chariot race were held. Then Now
Roman Baths The Roman baths were a large part of everyday life.  Romans went daily to the baths to exercise, bathe and socialize.  Above are the Baths of Caracalla which could accommodate about 1500 people.
