The technology that I used to create my front
cover, contents page and double page spread
varied. I used a camera, PC, Photoshop, Quark
Xpress, the internet and Blogger.
Each different piece of software that I used was for
different reasons and learning different skills along
the way.
The camera was used to take photographs that
related to the coverlines on the contents page and
which also relates to the stories within the
magazine. Once completed I used blogger to
upload all of my work.
I used Adobe Photoshop software to create the front cover of
my pop music magazine. Using this software for this purpose is
great as the software is more advanced than other software
and this is more complex than using other software's. Also
using Photoshop I was able to edit, cut and crop the images if
they weren't to the standards I needed them. What I did was
created a blank A4 page and every time I wanted to create
something new on the front cover I would have to insert a
layer.
I used Quark Xpress to create my contents page and also my
double page spread for my pop music magazine. Quark
Xpress is a very professional software which major magazines
such as Closer etc use to create their contents page etc.
Using this software is very easy to use and importing the text for
the double page spread was great as it automatically sorted
the text into columns. Out of the Adobe Photoshop and Quark
Xpress, Quark was the easiest to use as it was easier to find the
necessary tools.
Blogger is an online blog. I use blogger to upload all of the
tasks that I have had to complete on to blogger. Since the
start of the coursework I have had to keep up to date with the
work so when completing a task, I upload it to blogger. It was
easiest when completing the task to upload it straight to
blogger so then you know its there. Blogger is easy and very
simple to use and you can embed certain things such as
videos on to blogger.
I learnt a lot of skills since producing the pop music magazine. I took
on six jobs which in a real magazine they would hire one person for
each job. I took on the role of all the journalist, photographer, sub
editor, designer, proof reader and also the layout sub editor. The job
that I found easiest was the proof reading as it wasn’t really
challenging me. The role I found the hardest was the journalist and
designer as with the journalist you have to make sure what you are
saying makes sense and accurate. Also I found the designer a bit
hard as I had never produced anything before. I also learnt how to
use software’s such as Photoshop and quark xpress as I had never
use these before at the beginning I found it quite hard to use it but
after time I developed the skills that I needed to, so I could produce
the best magazine that I could. I also learnt how to use DTP , which is
desk top publishing. Using DTP you don’t have to be professional, if
you have the right equipment and software you are then able to
create a magazine.
