2. My target audience
• The majority of my target audience are female and they are aged 1424 roughly and they all mostly live a lifestyle of a student or one that
is in education. They would love a music magazine that is
girly/professional looking and that provided them with all the
information about the pop artists/exclusive information and fashion
that’s connected with the stars.
• Because my target audience is mainly female and I want to get as
many readers/buyers as possible I would have to directly attract
them to my magazine, I have done this by altering everything in my
magazine such as models makeup or the colour of the magazine and
feature things in the magazine that they would find interesting such
as the clothes the models wear will be from a high street store so
that they can go out and buy the same thing. My magazine must get
across certain messages and also I would have to express a certain
lifestyle which my audience could relate to them. I would also have
to tend to all their needs concerning a music magazine, such as
featuring exclusive information and the latest music releases.
3. The language and tone
•
•
•
•
The age of my target audience starts at 14 and then goes up
to 24, so I would have to use a language that is appealing to
both ages but appropriate for the younger readers to read, I
would do this by not swearing in the magazine and then use a
lot of humor. I would also set out as much text as possible in a
friendly conversational language.
To attract the readers to my articles I felt like it would be a
very good idea to add alliteration and phrases that had a ring
to them, by doing this I believe that it makes my magazine
more appealing to read. I have used cap locks on my titles so
that the words stand out more, also by using certain colours
and sizing I have make my writing stand out more to attract
the readers.
In the writing on my text I have added a personal touch so
that readers feel at ease when reading as if they have been a
regular reader of the magazine, rather than if I wrote in a
essay from which may seem boring for the younger audience.
Even though the tone is friendly/appropriate for 14 year olds
to read, it isn't childish which would be unappealing for some
of my older target audiences, I have done this by adding
puns/jokes in which will be found funny by all ages.
I believe that by using this method I have created a perfect
balance between getting the information across in a friendly
fashion without sounding unprofessional or boring that all
ages of my target audience will find pleasing.
4. Magazine colour
•
•
The colour of the magazine is very important as it is one of the
first things a reader will notice when they pick up a magazine,
as most of my audience is female and are students I found it
necessary to use a bold colour like black for the text and put
the black text on top of a colour like pink background which
will make the text stand out more but still have a girly feel to it
because of the pink background. For the title of the articles I
have used a hot pink colour because it is a highlighting colour
which will grab the attention of the readers and make them
want to read what the article is about. I have used black/white
a lot on the magazine because I believe that in contrast to the
pink/yellow it will give my magazine professional/sophisticated
look to it. I have only used these colours on the text because
any other colour would have drew the attention away from the
information which I wanted to be read first (main selling
points) for example if I used the colour green for the
descriptions, it would have took the focus of attention away
from the titles, it would also not fit the theme of a girly pop
magazine.
The colour scheme that I have used I have stuck to and I have
no exceptions, I think that the colour scheme I use which is;
pink, black, white and yellow gives my magazine a feminine,
professional appearance which my target audience would find
very appealing resulting in them wanting to purchase the
magazine.
5. Types of pop
• To widen my audience I included a range of different pop types,
such as ‘pop punk’ and ‘bubble pop’. Bubble gum pop is for the
younger target audiences and pop punk is where punk artists or
pop artists adventure into singing songs from different genres but
adding their style of music onto the song. I also included a article
which includes to types of genres, pop and mod (mod is 60’s
music like The Beatles). By doing this I will attract more readers
because the music featured inside fits their specific style.
6. Imagery
In my magazine I have used a vary
of different shot types so that my
readers feel a different vibe from
every picture so that my magazine
doesn't’t appear to be the same
thing every time making it
interesting rather than boring.
For this image I have
used the shot type
medium long shot, I
have used this so the
readers can see her
clothes in full and some
of her legs. I have also
used a direct mode of
address because it gives
the image more of a
personal feel with the
readers/audience.
This shot is a close up shop type with
the mode of address direct and I have
done this because I wanted the
audience to see the punk makeup
that the model has on to get across
the theme of the article and I have
used a direct mode of address to
make the audience feel more
connected to the artist.
The shot type that I have used in
this image is a medium shot type,
and she is positioned looking over
her shoulder to give her a elegant
look to her, also I have make the
mode of address direct because I
feel like it gives the audience a
connection with the artist.
For this image I have
used the shot type,
medium shot, I have
used this shot type
because it allows the
readers to see in full
what the girl is wearing
but also lets them see
her facial
expressions/features/ma
keup in full detail. I have
used a direct mode of
address because it will
draw the
readers/audience in.
The shot type that I have used for
this image is a medium close up
shot type, I have done this is that
the audience can see the loving
expression to the couple in the
picture, also because I feel that
they will feel close to them because
they are seeing them close up, I
have used a indirect mode of
address to show that the couple are
in a world of their own because
they are so in love.
I have used the shot type close up
and the mode address used in
indirect with the model facing to
the right, I have done this because
I wanted the audience to see that
she is looking through her past
with all the other images in the
background set out in a flowing
collage. I want to give off the vibe
that the artist is looking over her
past, adding mystery and also that
she is reflecting on her past.
7. Pop genre conventions
List of genre conventions;
•
Props
•
Hair/makeup/costume
•
Body language/facial expression
•
Background images
•
Brand identity
•
colour
The list that I have created shows the audience what genre of music the magazine is connected with without saying in words that it is pop, the audience
would realize that this is a pop music magazine without even knowing, just by judging the appearance.
An example of how my music magazine portrays the pop music vibe is; the colours used(feminine colours) and costumes used (female models are dressed
in latest fashion). Another thing which the readers would pick up on is the stance that my models are positioned in, on the front cover I have put her in a
friendly but strong pose because this is classic these days in female pop artists for example Beyoncé and Cheryl Cole, the pose links in with traits that pop
artists commonly use. Brand identity is something that is very common in music magazine, some of these magazine names that use this are, Billboard and
NME for my brand identity I created my own masthead using photoshop and replaces the ‘o’s form LOVEPOP! And replaced them with hearts giving it a
feminine look to it. No props were used in my images because the connection between the artist and the audience was very important and I believed that
props would have ruined that as they are a distraction. The costumes/makeup and hair of my models were made to fit the pop theme but keep in
connection with the latest fashion so that the audience would be appealed by this and want a further look at what they are wearing and they will also
want a further look at the makeup and hair so they can analyze how they could do the same look on themselves. The font that I have used is bold but still
professional looking and the colours used for the text and background were feminine yet still have a sophisticated feel to them.
They have a similar vibe coming
from them as they both come
across like strong, independent
artists.
8. Unique selling point
• I have added eye catching words such as exclusive and phrases like
‘once in a life time chance’ which makes the audience want to read
on. I have also used a very dramatic blown up, side on shot of the
artists face for the double page spread with a vary of images of her
past in the background, this is a USP because it isn't a common
thing to see in a magazine. Because I have competitions in my
magazine this will attract all ages of the audience as they may not
be able to afford the prizes on offer because of their student
lifestyle.
9. Media
•
Because a lot of young people are on the web these days, I
made sure to add the website of the magazine on the front
cover next to the essential information so that the
audience would see it when looking for price and the other
information, I feel that by doing this the audience will see
that we are up to date with all the technology's and that
we are a cool, modern magazine. I decided to create the
website because when I handed out the surveys a lot of
people said that they hear about music from online so if
people see that we have a website they will find the
magazine not only professional but reliable. Because the
world revolves around social media these days I also put
our ‘facebook’ name next to the essential information, by
adding social media it will expand the magazines reach and
it can also attract more readers from other country's other
than in the UK. Hopefully by adding these it will give the
impression that this magazine is a well thought out
production that has taken a lot of time to create rather
than just being quickly created and missing out some
exclusive information, it also ensures that the magazine
doesn’t get overlooked by the world of technology because
it has some online information included.
