Essay On Radiator Hose Cut Day New Director
Radiator Hose Cut Day New Director Meets Department (March 2, 2017) 48. On the way to
work, to meet the new director, the car had overheated when getting off the off ramp to work. I
checked under the hood and I saw that the car had a clean razor blade like cut in the radiator
hose allowing air to get into the system. I had electrical tape and silicone in the car at the time,
and I used that to repair the hose that was torn. Then I stopped at Harbor Freight to get hose
clamps to tighten down the hoses; so the air would not get in and it wouldn t leak. I have receipt
of the hose clamps I purchased there that day. I intended to notify my Supervisor through email on
my cell phone that I was having car trouble, and I would be there as... Show more content on

The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants

English 1A Sec V18

Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity,
disease or evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the
United States since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to
Leslie Patton, reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the
U.S. and for the next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every
year. (Patton, Have We Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals
like Burger King and Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants.
The takeover of fast food franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among
American citizens, the decline in quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock
associated with such franchises. The abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially
those of lower income, influence consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among
adolescents and adults. Obesity is a major health concern in the United States; the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention reports that more than one third of American adults are obese, and
that obesity related conditions such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes are the leading
cause of preventable death. A study by the Retail Food Environment Index, shows that the number

Negative Impact Of Globalization
Globalization is the interaction of people due to the growth of international flow of different types
of global markets such as business, finances, international and domestic trades, information
technology, investments, and different ideas and cultures. Many people fear the impact of the
economy and society because it is harmful to every citizen around the world. Globalization
influences cultural exchange since it has been increasing annually. But this is not necessarily a
good thing, people fear this can cause loss of culture. Globalization very common nowadays, it has
started to become beneficial in the economy especially to the wealthy people. Globalization is

Another reason why jobs are decreasing is because of the advantage that the technology have
over us, the more advance the technology, the less workers they need. For example, in Factories
everything was mostly done and created by citizens of a nation, since technology is so advance,
factories now have more of automation system which means everything is done automatically,
this has caused decrease in jobs now that automation is very popular. This also can affect the
household because some families will be in financial crises due to unemployment. They are and
will be higher rates of divorces and family instability. Globalization has a huge and very stressful
impact on companies and business. Globalization has made a competitive environment for them.
The competition is due to different type of reasons but mainly due to cost and price and
technology adaptation. When company and businesses competition increase, it makes other
companies or businesses lower their prices. Also, one effect of globalization is expanding the
businesses. Companies, businesses and customers always want to have quick services and in a
more efficient way then before. They expect low prices and high quality. For example, McDonald
s. This company had its downfall, but it has been one of the most admire companies globally. It has
expanded throughout the world and it represents some of the cultures and community around it.
McDonald s is consistent with its prices and quick

Main Characters In The Scarlet Letter, By Nathanial Hawthorne
When one hears the name Nathanial Hawthorne, the first thing that comes to mind is The Scarlett
Letter. The Scarlet Letter is an 1850 historical fiction novel written by Nathanial Hawthorne. This
piece of literature is often considered Hawthorne s masterwork, as it best exemplifies his writing
skill with the drama and awe the book regularly gives the readers. Hawthorne presents us with four
main characters: Hester Prynne, her daughter Pearl, Reverend Dimmesdale, and Roger
Chillingworth. Hawthorne presents these characters in a way where they are very distinct and
complex. Throughout the novel, these characters are faced with conflicts, both internal and
external. Out of these four, however, the most noticeable is the main character, Hester Prynne. In
analyzing her character, three main reasons come to light: her daughter, Pearl, causes pain for
Hester, Hester exemplifies strength through her letter, and her kindness even though the constant
struggles she faces during this novel. Hester Prynne loves her daughter, Pearl, very much. Hester
would do anything for Pearl, as most loving mothers would do. At the same time, however, Pearl
causes a great pain for Hester. Pearl is given her name because as being a great price, purchased
with all she had, her mother s only treasure. (Hawthorne 83) Pearl is nicknamed the devil child as
her erratic and spontaneous nature causes chaos throughout the book. ...Pearl would grow
positively terrible in her puny wrath, snatching

Lord Capulet Get Pardoned In Romeo And Juliet
Why would anyone get pardoned or punished in Romeo and Juliet? All the characters played a
part in the problems that occurred. The Prince says, Some shall be pardoned, and some
punished. If that is true, who would be left? In Romeo and Juliet, Lady Capulet should be
pardoned. Lady Capulet was trying to help Juliet move on with things in her life and when Juliet
said she didn t want to get married, Lady Capulet wanted her to talk to Lord Capulet. Find thou
the means and I ll find such a man. But now I ll tell thee joyful tidings, girl (Romeo and Juliet
3.5.103). Lady Capulet was saying to Juliet find out what you want and I will go out and find that
guy. She was trying to help her daughter and make her happy. In addition to this Lady Capulet...

Normality In The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The...
Normality within Society
Normality is to be different. Every person is a different person. And one day you need to be
aware of your difference. Aware that you are not the same as the others. That is to be normal.
Through his quote, Alejandro Jodorowsky creates a reflection upon what he thinks the idea of
normality in society should be. ( Alejandro Jodorowsky Quotes. BrainyQuote.com). In the Curious
Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Haddon alludes the idealistic thoughts on normality in today
s society. In the world today, society expects the individuals to conform to what is thoughtto be
normal. As humans, one strives to adapt to societal standards. Normality within society is
considered something different for those that refuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, Through Christopher s understanding of relationships, Haddon unveils the reality of the
idealistic thoughts of normality in society. Society thinks a relationship is to mutually love and
respect and trust one another. It s considered normal to show affection if you care for someone.
Christopher has an inability to express his feelings of love. And Father said, Christopher do you
understand that I love you? And I said Yes , because loving someone is helping them when they
get into trouble, and looking after them, and telling the truth, (87) Despite the normality society
has put on relationships, every person has their own opinion on how a relationship works. The
normality of relationships is only an ideal standard. Contrary to what most believe as a typical
relationship, some don t express their thoughts and feelings in the same way. Haddon shows his
readers that just because there are standards to what a relationship should be like, doesn t mean
everyone has to abide by those standards. The love Christopher s parents have for him is one
sided, they can t expect him to feel the same way. (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night
Time). Normality is a standard and the standard society has on relationships are unattainable
considering all people are different. Lastly, Haddon lets us into Christopher s world and allows us to
be able to understand Christopher. He uses Christophers language and communication to unveil the
reality of the idealistic thoughts

How Did Martin Luther King Benefit Modern Society
I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear Martin Luther King Jr. king

always peaceful even if the blacks got beaten, they still stood for their nonviolent protest. King

The Poetry of Sir Thomas Wyatt
Sir Thomas Wyatt was born in the year 1503. The son of Sir Henry Wyatt and Anne Skinner, he
went on to attend St. John s College in Cambridge. He first took a place in the court of King
Henry VIII in 1516. In the year 1520 he was married to Elizabeth Brooke at the age of seventeen.
His son, of the same name, was born in the year 1521. Wyatt s marriage to Elizabeth was
miserable and the couple is believed to have been estranged by the second half of the 1520s
(Burrow). Thomas Wyattand Elizabeth Brooke were separated in 1525 when Wyatt accused his
wife of adultery. Much of Sir Thomas Wyatt s poetry is reflective of his love life. His personal
relationships served as inspiration for a notable amount of his work. In his poem Blame not my...

The poem can be seen as a parable relating to Anne s relationship with Henry VIII. When Wyatt
speaks of the deer as the possession of the sovereign, not to be pursued by others, he is accepting
that Anne has been reserved for the king alone. Wyatt would have been forced to withdraw as a
suitor after the King had shown interest in her. This is made evident when Wyatt says: I leave
off, therefore, / Since in a net I seek to hold the wind (7 8). He realizes the impossibility of being
with Anne. It is a clever description of Henry s possessiveness and Wyatt s disappointment and
feelings of helplessness under the circumstances.
In 1536, Anne Boleyn was charged with adultery. Thomas Wyatt, along with four others accused
of being romantically linked to the queen, were imprisoned. It was widely believed that Wyatt
was indeed her lover. Another lyricist, Mark Smeaton, was among the accused in the same year so
this suggests that the queen had a circle of lyrists close enough to her to make a king claim that
her intimacy with these men was sexual (Burrows). However, Wyatt was released shortly after
while the other accused lovers along with the queen were executed.
Anne s death and his imprisonment are said to have changed him. When he was released [t]he

My First Semester At Governors State University
My Personal Growth Plan This is my last semester at Governors State University. There were
only two classes that were part of my study plan that I needed for this semester, and I created a
schedule with four weekend classes so that I could be full time. Instead of taking classes that
would just look good on my resume, I decided to take classes that would help to benefit me the
most and ensure my future success as a holistic human being. Other students had spoken about
the Lab in Personal Growth briefly, and every person shared the same sentiment. They each
stated that this was an emotional and eye opening experience that involved a great deal of
emotional insight. Outside of that, I was unaware of what I was in for, but I was excited for
whatever challenge was ahead. Coming into the class I was interested in learning more about
how the class was going to be structured. Even while reading the book and doing the assignments
I did not think much of what we were going to do. Once the schedule was passed out I was
excited, but a little nervous. Meditation was a bigger part of my life during my teenage years, and
yoga was something that was enjoyable, but not something I actively participated in because I have
never heard of a yoga studio that worked with individuals with different abilities. Mindfulness was a
word that I had heard, but only associated it with a previous Professor that I took during my
associates. Unfortunately, there were many negative experiences that turned

James Peltz Analysis
Journalist James Peltz investigates and discusses capitalization of the native Mexican tradition of
Dia de los Muertos in the United States. Dia de los Muertos has become capitalized as a theme to
Halloween. Peltz points out with statistical and quoted evidence of how Dia de los Muertos is
being marketed along with the purchases made by consumers before and during Halloween. I
agree that the values, customs, and themes of Dia de los Muertos are being commercialized and
profited through cultural appropriation and the lack of knowledge upon the non Latin citizens. The
concept of cultural appropriation of Dia de los Muertos is how consumers purchase Dia de los
Muertos themed products such as necklaces, earrings, bed coverings, costumes, masks,

In Todays Modern World, Stereotype Threats Are Seen Widely,
In todays modern world, stereotype threats are seen widely, yet are not spoken about very often.
Darnell Rock Reporting is a book published in 1994 by Dean Myers, which focuses on a seventh
grader by the name of Darnell Rock who attends Oakdale High School. Darnell Rock is a student
who is known for being a troublemaker and spends most of the time at the principal s office. Since
he is known for being a bad kid, people stereotypehim as if that is all he is good for. Darnell meets
a man by the name of Sweeby who is homeless and along with Darnell Sweeby is also stereotyped.

When Darnell and Mr. Baker are discussing, Mr. Baker states, Can t you spend one day without
getting into trouble? If you can t do anything positive, why are you coming to school? Darnell
then tells Mr. Baker he wants to join the newspaper; Mr. Baker was shooked (7). This is a great
example on how Mr. Baker stereotyped and looked down on Darnell because he knows that
Darnell is no good for doing anything else but getting in trouble which is why he questions
Darnell. In chapter five, Darnell was having a bad day and everything that could go wrong
literally went wrong. He forgot his math book for Mr. Ohrbach s class. Mr. Ohrbach got angry
and stated, It s a good thing your head is screwed on adding or you would leave that home too
(44). However, Darnell did not think that was funny at all since he had heard it a hundred times
and the same people always laughed. Mr. Ohrback stereotyped him to be an irresponsible person
and could never get anything right. Morever, Sweeby is also a main character in the story that is
negatively stereotyped. Darnell decides to interview Sweeby for his newspaper article, which is
where we get most of the insight on how Sweeby is stereotyped. Darnell meets Sweeby when he
is walking home from school one day, they both spoke for quite a few, within that talk Darnell
finds out that Sweeby knows his dad because they were in the Army together. Mr. Rock is one of
the main characters that stereotypes

The Walking Dead Maggie Greene Analysis
The Walking Dead: Maggie Greene
The Walking Dead is full of drama and death. The only thing we really know is to stay away from
the bloodthirsty walkers and try to live. Maggie Greene is trying to survive in a post apocalyptic
world that doesn t care if she lives or dies. Maggie s traits, purpose, and beliefs are what make her
grow from a young woman to a woman with a warrior s leadership skills. Maggie s traits that she
gained from her father helped make her the woman she is today. Her father, Hershel Greene, was
a well respected southern Veterinarian and farmer. He always instilled in Maggie to have faith.
Faith is in her roots, and always helps her when she s feeling lost or down. When Maggie s mother
died she started to shoplift and smoke, but she eventually realized that wasn t the right thing to
do and restored her faith. Hershel also taught Maggie to be honest and loyal. Her loyalty shows
when Ricks group shows up to the farm with Carl. Carl has a gunshot wound and Rick keeps
insisting that he needs to tell his wife, Lori. Maggie knows it s the right thing to do and goes out
on horseback to find Lori and bring her back to the farm. Maggie s honesty is always there even
when she doesn t want to listen to her father and tell him the truth. These traits will always be a
part of Maggie, and will never let her down in this post apocalyptic world.
Maggie s purpose is to always be strong for the others while never carrying her heart on her sleeve.

Contributions Of Confucianism
Confucius was a great Chinese philosopher, but he was also a teacher, editor, and politician. He
was born on September 28, 551 BC, and died in 479 BC. He was most well known as Confucius,
but his real name is Kong Qiu. After his death, Confucianism became the official imperial
philosophy of China. Later after his death, he was regarded as a sage who deserved greater
recognition, and his teachings became more popular. He accomplished many great things in his life,
and died a successful man. Confuciusenvisioned a type of government where people strived to

Confucius said, The progress of the superior man is upwards. He wanted their leaders to better
their government, so he took control, and told the leaders how they should act. Teaching leaders
how to behave was important to Confucius, because he wanted to bring order to society, and he
wanted good people who could do that. He wanted the rulers to not be cruel anymore. Confucius
said, The man, who in the view of gain, thinks of righteousness; who in the view of danger is
prepared to give up his life; and who does not forget an old agreement however far back it
extends: such a man may be reckoned a complete man. This was his real idea of a good leader.
Confucius did not want the leader to be selfish, and he wanted them to keep true to their word.
His opinion was that the superior man s words should never be incorrect. He wanted the leaders
to be truthful to the people, and not tell them lies. Another thing Confucius thought made a good
leader was when someone who is in conduct of himself maintains a sense of shame, and does not
disgrace his prince s commission, deserves to be called an officer. This means that he thought if a
man had these qualities, he was considered a good officer. He thought good leaders should
maintain order by making sure what he said was carried out appropriately, as it is said in the
Analects. He also said that in intercourse with others, be strictly sincere. Confucius did not want

The Theme Of Water In Arthur Golden s Memoirs Of A Geisha
From 1920 to present times, geisha numbers in Japan have dwindled from 80,000 to 150. In the
words of Memoirs of a Geisha s film adaptation, [Geisha] sell [their] skills, not [their] bodies...The
very word geisha means artist and to be a geisha is to be judge as a moving work of art. The
differences and similarities between Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geishaand its movie adaptation
certainly raise the book in preference over the movie. Chiyo/Sayuri s childhood background, Chiyo
s encounters with the Chairman, and the symbolism of water are all significant details in the story
of Sayuri Nitta.
Chiyo Sakamoto is born in Yoroido, Japan. With her mother sick and her father growing older
every day, she believes Mr. Tanaka is her liberator. Little does she know that, at the tender age of
nine, she is to be ripped from her poor, simple life and sold to an okiya in Gion. And at the age of

Islam and Great Sectarian Divide
Bottom of Form *
Brothers at war
FOR two sects united by their belief in one Maker, one Book and one Prophet, the amount of
blood spilt in the name of their respective faiths by Shias and Sunnis is truly staggering. This is
specially so when one considers the tiny differences that define and divide them.
Since the earliest days of Islam in the 7th century when the schism first tore the young Muslim
community apart, the two sects have been warring incessantly. Untold thousands have been killed
over the years, and this internecine war continues to devastate communities and nations.
I am not qualified to go into the rights and wrongs of this old conflict. However, as a student ...

Now the shoe is on the other foot, and it is the minority Sunnis under the Shia heel. In Syria, the
minority Alewites have ruled since the Seventies. In Sunni Saudi Arabia, the Shias are marginalised.
The list goes on, but one thing is clear: both sects harbour deep distrust of each other. Indeed, in a
recent Pew Institute survey on attitudes in the Muslim world, only 53 per cent of those surveyed in
Pakistan considered Shias to be Muslims. This figure is even lower in several other Muslim
countries.
There is similar doubt on the other side, with many Shias casting doubt on Sunni beliefs. So clearly,
time has only sharpened this schism, rather than healing old wounds.
But while more often than not, these tensions are limited to neighbourhoods and nations, the
emergence of a Shia theocracy in Iran has taken these differences to a new level.
Although mediaeval Islam saw states engaging in sectarian warfare, this tendency was later
suppressed in modern times, as we have just discussed. However, although the Iran Iraq war was
fought over territorial claims and counter claims, overtly sectarian symbolism was deployed by
both sides.
And when the Americans invaded Iraq in 2003, the ruling Baath Party was ousted, and the
minority Sunnis displaced from power. This led to a Shia revival, and a major gain in Iranian
influence. Indeed, the US led campaign was widely viewed in the Middle East as

Representation Of Indian Literature And Film
Representation of Maori in New Zealand narratives; literature and film, has been a criticised
problem by Maori and academics for centuries. I will explore the representation of Maori in film
and literature through a mana wahine context, directed by leading national and international
mana wahine scholars. My aim is to shed light on issues that surround Maori representation and
issues within the Maori community. My capstone project aims to give Maori a strong, self
affirming voice. I want to reclaim my identity and empower other Maori through my personal
account of being Maori in a low socio economic suburb. I believe that representations of Maori are
stereotypical, derogatory, and false. Therefore, these images reflect us to the wider community in
vast negative lights. Most importantly, these deceitful depictions negatively affect views Maori
have of themselves. Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith is a pioneer of Kaupapa Maori Research. I
will utilize her second edition of her book Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous
peoples(Smith 2012) as a framework. I will compare and contrast what Smith has said in relation
to other indigenous women academic s discourse of race and gender such as Bell Hooks, Leonie
Pihama, and myself. Decolonizing Methodologies is an analytical investigation of the role Western
academic research contributed to the process of colonization of indigenous peoples, specifically
Maori. It also explores intersections of imperialism and history;

This all goes back to the woman. Biff realized he wanted to carve his own way and not end up like

Olive Compare And Contrast
I watched the Olive, the Other Reindeer film adaptation and I noticed some differences between
the movie and the storybook. I chose to compare the scene where Olive is wrapping Christmas
presents and hears All of the other reindeer on the radio. In the book, the scene shows Olive
wrapping Christmas presents and listening to Christmasmusic. She hears Rudolph the Red Nosed
Reindeer play, and listens to the lyric All of the other reindeer, but she thinks that it is saying
Olive, the other reindeer, meaning that she is a reindeer. Hearing this makes her think that she is a
reindeer and needs to report to duty to help Santa Claus. However, in the movie, the scene shows

Santa says maybe somehow we ll make due with all of the other reindeer. Fido hears Santa say
this, but he thinks that Santa says Olive, the other reindeer, indicating that Olive is the other
reindeer that will help him. Olive believes Fido and decides to trek to The North Pole to save
Christmas. The difference between the two is that in the book, Olive hears all of the reindeer
and thinks they are referring to her, and in the movie Olive s friend, Fido, hears all of the other
reindeer and thinks Santa is referring to her. Another difference between the two is that the
book does not have Fido in it. I think the only reason for this is because with a movie, the writer
is able to incorporate a lot more detail into the storyline because the movie is longer. Along with
differences, I also found similarities between the movie and the book. Both the pictures for the
movie and for the book are created by J. Otto Seibold, indicating that the movie is also created
with animated characters. In both the film and the book, Olive is drawn as a cute Jack Russell
Terrier with lots of colorful surroundings near her, such as Santa s workshop and his

Shaun In The Film This Is England
In the film This is England the little main protagonist, Shaun, has experience vast changes over
the course of the movie. In the beginning, Shaun appears to be a sweet little boy that had a hard
time fitting in at his school and for this reason he was bullied from older boys. Like most 11 year
old kids who wore jumpers with animals on, I got bullied by the older kids at school. So I
looked for my own tribe to join. (Meadows, 2007) In fact, Shaun meets Woody who introduced
him to his gang and gains new friends. Referring back to Meadows words, Shaun just wanted to be

However, in the middle of the movie, a new character joins the narration, an ex convict man
called Combo. Combo promoted to stand up for English s roots and for him jobs are taken away
from Englishman and given to immigrants who don t deserve them. So he established a racist
and aggressive skinhead gang that caused a lot of problems in the town. Shaun decides to join
Combo s gang because he wanted to make his father proud that was killed in the Flanklands war,
and this can be deduced by Combo when he said: and you want your dad s life to mean
something. Don t you... Although, I don t think that making his father proud was the only reason.
In fact, in Shaun s life there has been a lack of a father figure, which he suffered from, and so
when he meets Combo, and he tells him that he is going to take care of him, Shaun decided to
take him as a role model to follow. As a result Combo becomes the father figure in his life and
decided to follow his nationalism idea. Combo taught Shaun to be violent and racist against non
English people because according to Combo they were inferior and bad for the community.
Furthermore, Shaun with Combo s gang participates to a meeting hosted by right winged National

Causes Of The Chicago Race Riot
When most people here the topic of the Chicago Race Riot they usually do not know a lot of
information about it. The Chicago Race Riot was an important part of history for the state of
Illinois and America as a country. This paper will discuss the causes of the Chicago Race Riot,
violence between Americans, and how is important to Illinois s history. The main causes of the
Chicago RaceRiot are very significant to how it all started. According to Tuttle s book, RaceRiot:
Chicago in the Red Summer of 1919 there are three main causes that all relate to the starting of
the violent outbreak. The first cause all started at 29th street beach. There at the beach, the blacks
tried to join the whites, but just the opposite happened (pp.5). The whites did everything in their
power to expel the blacks from their beach (pp.5). They did just that until the blacks came back
with reinforcement in their numbers causing the whites to leave their beach temporarily (pp.5).
This cause basically shows that ever since the blacks fought for their way out of slavery that they
were not looked at as equals. The whites still looked at themselves as superiors. They did not show
it unless one of the blacks stepped out of line. For example, the incident at the 29th street beach
when the blacks tried to swim at the white s beach. Just by how Tuttle explained that the law was
unwritten showed that whites mostly kept it not very public about their feelings until the race riot
erupted. The incident at

Essay on Opposition to Immigration in 19th and 20th...
Immigration in 19th and 20th Century America During the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, many American nativist groups opposed free unrestricted immigration. Although racism
is a main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to
be threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs
that we take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people
reacted so strongly against immigrants. The people feared change might distort the course of our
prospering country. We did not want to become what those immigrants were fleeing. Many

This was not a single view, but a reflection of how the entire nativist nation felt. Many political
changes were also being made during this abstract time period. Immigrants were new to our
elaborate and tangled web of politics. In fact many nativist Americans didn t understand our
political system all to well. Many people had the conception that immigrants were too half witted to
follow American politics. After all they were not even born here. Immigrants tended to vote in
blocks together. In document 7, according to magazine writer, E.A. Ross thought that foreigners
were underhanded and corrupt. They polluted everything good about our pure and honest political
system. Ross gives a clear exaggeration on how the foreigners managed to change the outcome of
an election. From intimidation at the polls, ballot frauds, vote purchases, and saloon influence. Also
the support of the vicious and criminal. This is clearly a stretch on the reality of the situation. He
contradicts himself at the end by saying its root is the simple minded foreigner . With all this
criminal masterminding to change an election outcome, its foundation are immigrants who do not
completely understand our political system. Thats fails to make any sense to me whatsoever. Most
immigrants wanted a better future for their families and that was all. Social changes played a huge
role in the nativist campaign against immigrants. Many changes were occurring in our social

Eircell saw a gap in the market and launched their service. This turned mobile telecommunication
into a mass market product. This helped Eircell to increase their pre tax profits from ВЈ1.6m to
ВЈ6m in the year to April 1998 and they claimed to have 77% share of the Irish mobile phone
market (Independent.ie, 1998). Threat of substitute; substitute of products or services can limit the
potential of an industry. The industry will suffer in terms of earnings with numerous substitutes.
Products price elasticity s is affected by substitute products, a close substitute product constrains
the ability of firms to increases prices. Considering this, the Irish mobile telecommunication
industry in 1998 was an attractive industry to be a part of as it was a duopolistic market, with
Eircell and Esat Digifone being the only companies in the industry. Although Meteor was given the
third mobile network license but its operation were put to a halt as Orange pursued legal action
against Meteor, these proceedings continued until June 2000 (Independent.ie, 1998). In 1998 in
mobile telecom industry Eircell substitute was Esat Digifone, initially Eircell introduced pre paid

fought back by offering similar service but at a lower rate (Independent.ie, 1998).

contemporary concerns and issues will always involve a reader Through the study of the novel The
Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne, it is clear that the concerns and issues, as well as the
style and structure of a text, are what determines the reader s involvement. In addition, the issues of
the past (particularly those about war) still remain concerns today. The issues amplified within The

Because she too is alone at Auschwitz she replaces her friends and companions with dolls,

with Shmuel, a Jew from the other side of the fence, which in turn leads to a horrific ending. This
ending captures the reader because of the intensity and power in how it is written. If John Boyne
had narrated the story in any other way, the effect would not have been quite so horrific and
potent. This along with the main concern of the book captures the reader s attention, encouraging
them to read on. A major concern of World War Two which remains relevant to wars today is man

The Problem
This case study addresses issues associated with change management via a needs analysis in an
effort to identify and implement new instructional approaches to improve a middle school math
course in a K 12 setting.
Upon receipt of an email from Ruth Ann Ponten, a 7th grade math teacher, Maya Thomas, the
district staff development and instructional consultant, immediately took action to help support the
struggling teacher. Ruth Ann was located at a school within a rural community that was undergoing
a major transition. The community of farm workers and working class families was transitioning to
a community of educated professionals that were being attracted to the community s strong, tight
knit feel and impeccable older homes. With the change of families, new expectations regarding
education started to emerge as well. Before meeting with Ruth Ann, Maya began her research by
conducting a needs assessment. According to Rossett (1999), needs assessment or analysis is the

identification of what is actually going on, identification of what is driving the current performance,

Feminism in The Scarlett Letter Essay
Feminists are independent individuals that stand against the given norms of society. Throughout
history, there are many examples of these strong individuals that help innovate society forward.
Because Puritan society greatly suppressed many women, feminism is quite impossible at that time.
In The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne explores the life of Hester Prynne, a
young puritan woman involved in an affair. Throughout the book, Hester Prynne expresses her
potential to become an early feminist and at times is, however her love for Arthur Dimmesdale
holds her back from attaining her full feminist potential.
Feminist figures are strong and independent, giving them courage to voice their opinion. From the

In the end, Hester continues as a feminist when she goes on to empower other women against the
norms of Puritan society. Although Hester enacts upon her strong qualities to show feministic
actions, she is not a true feminist as men still deeply affect her decisions.
Hester, though strong willed, is not completely in control of her life. Her love for Dimmesdale
affects her decisions, taking away from her feminine independence. She acquiesces to Dimmesdale
s request to not let him go to England on his own, going against her decision in the beginning to
not flee because she had a motive for continuing resident in New England (Hawthorne 55).
Although Hawthorne leaves Hester s motive ambiguous, both possibilities show Hester s lack of
independence that would make her an early feminist. One motive is that staying at New England
would at length purge her soul (Hawthorne 55). Hester holds strongly to her original intent until
her love for Dimmesdale sways her into fleeing. The fact that it might be that another feeling kept
[Hester] within the scene (Hawthorne 55), indicate a second motive that she stayed because she
loves Dimmesdale, showing that her love for Dimmesdale controlled even her original decision.

My Favorite Leisure Experiences In My Life
Throughout my life my leisure activities have changed many times. From playing video games;
to sports and hanging out with friends. Out of my many favorite leisure experiences my most
favorite would be hanging out with friends. Being with other people and having fun is one of the
best feelings to me because it takes off all the stress of my life difficulties. It is very important to
reflect on one s past and present leisureexperiences because they reminds of the best and most
fun memorable moments in our lives. We live in a very stressful society where we hardly have
any fun time due to work, school, or just our very busy lives. During stressful times or difficult
times reflecting on those memorable moments has a very positive impact on us. As I have grown
older I have definitely experienced many of the levels of Nash s Paradigm of Free Time.
When I was in middle school I participated in activities that would be classified as acts performed
against society on Nash s Paradigm. At the time I was about 14 years old and did not think
thoroughly about my actions. I used to participate in shoplifting and vandalism as my leisure
activities. Me and my friends would hang out after school and tag the walls around our school
and would go into stores to steal snacks or drinks. At the time I did not realise how irresponsible
and idiotic my actions were. At first when I began to tag it had a bad psychological effect on me
because I would be paranoid I was going to get caught by the cops or someone of authority. The
more I did it the less paranoid I felt but never felt completely safe and always had a negative
psychological effect. Tagging the walls was a way to express how I felt at the time. I felt I had
to represent my crew which i was involved with. Participating in these activities did have a
physical effect because most of the time I did a lot of running. Whenever someone would catch
us we had to run away as fast as we could and it would get us tired. It did make me feel good the
running had a good effect on my body as it slimed me down a bit. This was a very social activity.

Coercion Or Conversion And Religious Differences At Uic
Coercion or Conversion Interfaith relationships are complicated on a college campus, because so

issue that is often encountered on college campuses is the issue of interfaith cooperation between
student groups. An example of this is when a group of students feel that a certain faith is being
pushed upon them or they cannot practice their own religionin peace. We encounter this issue in
our case study Coercion or Conversion? Grappling with Religious Difference at UIC . Our case
study illustrates the fear of several students. The students fear that if this particular religious group
joins their interfaith organization, that they will be coerced into joining the group s popular
religion and abandoning their own religion. However, this case study allows the opinions of each
side of the argument to be explored, so an unbiased observer can articulate a solution which is best
for both groups. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, an issue arose when the evangelical

People bury different aspects of themselves because they are ashamed of these characteristics.
These buried secrets become what people despise in themselves and others since no one likes to

the individual that is suffering from the illness but causes problems with other inmates, the jail and

one of the greatest theologians. In his work Summa Theologica, which he revised many times over
the course of his life, he explored the existence of God, and there are essentially five ways in which
St. Thomas Aquinasargues the existenceof God. The first way is the argument from change, the
second way is the argument from causation, the third argument is the argument from possibility and
necessity, or the reductio argument, the fourth way is the argument from gradation of being, and
the fifth way is the argument from harmony. These arguments for the existence of God are
presented in his work Summa Theologica. In regards to the first argument, Aquinas states that our
senses prove that things are in motion. From there, potential motion becomes actual motion, and
this actual motion can turn potential motion into actual motion. The example Aquinas uses is, Thus
that which is actually hot, as fire, makes wood, which is potentially hot, to be actually hot, and
thereby moves and changes it. Because of these arguments made by Aquinas, he says that nothing
can be moved by itself because if something is both in actuality and potentially at the same time,
then they have to be actual in one way but potential in a different way. Additionally, going back to
the wood example, For what is actually hot cannot simultaneously be potentially hot; but it is
simultaneously potentially cold.

No Exit Character Analysis
In Existential novels, another way characters are able to reconcile themselves to the absurd world is
by forming connections with others like the characters in the play, No Exit. When Garcin, Inez, and
Estelle are placed in hell, at first, they try to ignore each other. But, soon they realize there is no
point in doing that. The more they ignore each other, the more they look back at the earth and see
themselves being forgotten. This causes them to try to form connections with one another, but the
connection they formed is not friendly. Instead, Garcin, Inez, and Estelle have a negative
relationship where they constantly irk each other. They would not be able to reconcile themselves
in their absurd world without this awful relationship. Which... Show more content on

Alfred Prufrock does not form connections with other characters. In the poem, Prufrock
continually says In the room the women come and go/Talking of Michelangelo (1). Then, he
asks himself Do I dare? and, Do I dare? because he questions himself whether or not he should go
talk to the women in the room (1). As the poem goes on, he continues to question himself and he
does not go talk to those women. He wants to form a connection with those women, but he keeps
holding back. By holding himself back, he stops himself from making any human interaction.
Instead, he constantly worries about the world around him and he feels trapped by it. He has
also said he has heard the mermaids singing, each to each./[He does] not think that they will sing
to [him] (3). The mermaids have connections among themselves, but they do not form a
connection with him. Prufrock is unable to form a connection with humans or supernatural
creatures. In the last line of the poem, Prufrock says, Till the human voices wake us, and we
drown (3). Unless he is able to talk to other people and form connections with them, he is unable
to exist so he drowns . The act of drowning represents feeling trapped because a person can t
breath which represents freedom. To Prufrock, drowning represents his inability to reconcile
himself to the absurd world he finds himself trapped in. Overall, in The Love Song of J Alfred
Prufrock, Prufrock is unable to form

Communication And Diversity Training Essay
Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science or the Academy of Technological Sciences and
Engineering (Dunstone Williamson, 2012).
Sheppard and Bonneau (2002) summarized the impact on physical working capacity of commonly
encountered gender differences in size, body composition, haemoglobin levels, and muscular
strength. According to the authors, the potential training response of female applicants is likely at
least to match that of their male peers, and the needs of female police recruits are thus best
accommodated by providing every opportunity to augment fitness to the required minimum level.
The main weakness of any current requirement is that most police forces do not yet apply an
equivalent criterion to older incumbent officers, where similar issues may arise.

According to Newton (2006) employees are not a homogenous group but reflect the growing
diversity of the larger population. By recognizing and valuing women and men s differences (such
as age, religion, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, disability, sexual orientation, etc.) and
considering their needs in shaping training and development opportunities, the business stands to
benefit from the diversity of their contributions.
Communication and diversity training regarding gender identity in the workplace should be
comparable to other policy announcements and training initiatives (Boyle, 2005). For instance, if
an employer provides online harassment training that incorporates race and sex, it should also
incorporate gender identity. Supervisory employees should receive diversity training that includes
clear examples of discrimination based on gender identity shortly after starting employment and on
a regular basis thereafter. When an employee transitions at work, these expectations should be

Apples and Oranges Essay
Apples and Oranges
No two things could be more different than apples and oranges. Just by looking at them one can
see many different characteristics that set them apart from each other. Apples are red, yellow,
russet, and sometimes striped in color and oranges are usually orange. Oranges have to be peeled
before one can eat them. These two different fruits grow in different parts of the world, on different
trees, and in different climates. What could these complete opposites have in common?
Surprisingly they share many qualities that really do make them a lot alike. The apple is the most
important tree fruit of the temperate regions of the world. Apples have been grown and used for
food since the early dawn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apple trees generally do not begin to blossom and bear fruit until they are 5 to 8 years old. They
reach maximum production at about age 20; commercial orchards are generally replaced when
they reach 35 to 40 years in age. Although the trees would live longer, the fruit from old trees is
generally smaller and poorer in appearance and more expensive to care for. Apple trees can
withstand temperatures as low as 40 degrees C. Here in the United States apples mainly grow in
Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan and California. The trees need a period of
cold or dormancy to grow and bear fruit properly. So they cannot grow in tropic areas. Oranges
on the other hand also were around in ancient times. Some experts have proved that they date
back as far as 4,000 years ago according to ancient Chinese records. Oranges also come from the
other side of the Atlantic. When Christopher Columbus sailed for the New World, he carried with
him seeds of oranges and other types of citrus fruits. The seeds were planted on the island of
Hispaniola. Just as the Europeans spread apple trees westward in the United States by moving
further that way. The Indians spread citrus trees beyond the Spanish Plantations by dropping
seeds from fruit they were eating. Soon groves were of wild citrus trees. Orange trees never stop
growing. By the time it is 20, it may be 4.5 meters (15 feet) high and

Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling
Year Round Schools

Task 2
Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much
higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test
scores are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with
the traditional school year.
As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write
and research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year
Round Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student,
why would I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and
realize that a one or two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after
researching the topic I learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more
benefits to year round schools than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows
that their children have better end of the year test scores. They also show that English language
learner children and Special Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional
schools with the same programs. Also the summer break retention rate of what the children learn
throughout the year and then remember is much higher in year round

Causes Of Drought In South Dakota
The focus of chapter three was about the federal irrigation systems, which was caused by weather
events. The year of 1880 s, South Dakota and nearby states survived a natural disaster. South
Dakota was hit by a blizzard and in the result of that suffer from a drought right after. This is when
people began to search for new homes and a place that had water and a fertile land. The drought

Compare and Contrast the Views of Native Americans and...
During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Europeans started to come over to the new world,
they discovered a society of Indians that was strikingly different to their own. To understand how
different, one must first compare and contrast some of the very important differences between
them, such as how the Europeans considered the Indians to be extremely primitive and basic, while,
considering themselves civilized. The Europeans considered that they were model societies, and
they thought that the Indians society and culture should be changed to be very similar to their own.
The Europeans and the Indians had very contrasting ideas of personal wealth and ownership. The
Europeans believed that only the rich should own land, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was a very sharp contrast to the Europeans, whom had for centuries, been the top of their
social hierarchy. In Europe, the women had a very relatively primitive, limited role in society.
They were not allowed to attend or partake in political affairs, with very few exceptions. Now, on
the other hand, in Indian society there was a council of chiefs, whom was all male, but they were
appointed by an elder women. Also, during their deliberation over issues, the males made the final
decision, but would be expelled from the council, if they didn t conclude to the same decision that
the elder woman came to. The women s main job in Indian society, was being in charge of
cultivation of, harvest of, and distribution of food. When the men left to go hunting, women were
left to run society. The Europeans simply believed that the males were far superior to the family,
which is why women could not have jobs, and were left to only clean, cook, and various other
household chores. Coming from an economic standpoint, the Europeans and Indians were such
total opposites, it often led to misunderstanding. Indians had very large trading routes well before
the time of European colonization. Their experience in trade only made it easier to exchange
goods with the Europeans. For Indians, trading was a way to acquire goods they wanted, but also
a way to share the wealth of their land with other tribes that didn t have the same items to trade as
they did. To the

  • 2. Essay On Radiator Hose Cut Day New Director Radiator Hose Cut Day New Director Meets Department (March 2, 2017) 48. On the way to work, to meet the new director, the car had overheated when getting off the off ramp to work. I checked under the hood and I saw that the car had a clean razor blade like cut in the radiator hose allowing air to get into the system. I had electrical tape and silicone in the car at the time, and I used that to repair the hose that was torn. Then I stopped at Harbor Freight to get hose clamps to tighten down the hoses; so the air would not get in and it wouldn t leak. I have receipt of the hose clamps I purchased there that day. • 3. The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants Dru Olson Marti English 1A Sec V18 27 October 2015 Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity, disease or evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the United States since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to Leslie Patton, reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the U.S. and for the next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every year. (Patton, Have We Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals like Burger King and Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants. The takeover of fast food franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among American citizens, the decline in quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock associated with such franchises. The abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially those of lower income, influence consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among adolescents and adults. Obesity is a major health concern in the United States; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more than one third of American adults are obese, and that obesity related conditions such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes are the leading cause of preventable death. A study by the Retail Food Environment Index, shows that the number of unhealthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Main Characters In The Scarlet Letter, By Nathanial Hawthorne When one hears the name Nathanial Hawthorne, the first thing that comes to mind is The Scarlett Letter. The Scarlet Letter is an 1850 historical fiction novel written by Nathanial Hawthorne. This piece of literature is often considered Hawthorne s masterwork, as it best exemplifies his writing skill with the drama and awe the book regularly gives the readers. Hawthorne presents us with four main characters: Hester Prynne, her daughter Pearl, Reverend Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth. Hawthorne presents these characters in a way where they are very distinct and complex. Throughout the novel, these characters are faced with conflicts, both internal and external. Out of these four, however, the most noticeable is the main character, Hester Prynne. In analyzing her character, three main reasons come to light: her daughter, Pearl, causes pain for Hester, Hester exemplifies strength through her letter, and her kindness even though the constant struggles she faces during this novel. Hester Prynne loves her daughter, Pearl, very much. Hester would do anything for Pearl, as most loving mothers would do. At the same time, however, Pearl causes a great pain for Hester. Pearl is given her name because as being a great price, purchased with all she had, her mother s only treasure. (Hawthorne 83) Pearl is nicknamed the devil child as her erratic and spontaneous nature causes chaos throughout the book. ...Pearl would grow positively terrible in her puny wrath, snatching ... Lady Capulet was trying to help Juliet move on with things in her life and when Juliet said she didn t want to get married, Lady Capulet wanted her to talk to Lord Capulet. And one day you need to be aware of your difference. Aware that you are not the same as the others. That is to be normal. Through his quote, Alejandro Jodorowsky creates a reflection upon what he thinks the idea of normality in society should be. ( Alejandro Jodorowsky Quotes. BrainyQuote.com). In the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Haddon alludes the idealistic thoughts on normality in today s society. In the world today, society expects the individuals to conform to what is thoughtto be normal. As humans, one strives to adapt to societal standards. Next, Through Christopher s understanding of relationships, Haddon unveils the reality of the idealistic thoughts of normality in society. Society thinks a relationship is to mutually love and respect and trust one another. It s considered normal to show affection if you care for someone. Christopher has an inability to express his feelings of love. And Father said, Christopher do you understand that I love you? And I said Yes , because loving someone is helping them when they get into trouble, and looking after them, and telling the truth, (87) Despite the normality society has put on relationships, every person has their own opinion on how a relationship works. The normality of relationships is only an ideal standard. Contrary to what most believe as a typical relationship, some don t express their thoughts and feelings in the same way. Haddon shows his readers that just because there are standards to what a relationship should be like, doesn t mean everyone has to abide by those standards. The love Christopher s parents have for him is one sided, they can t expect him to feel the same way. (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time). Normality is a standard and the standard society has on relationships are unattainable considering all people are different. Lastly, Haddon lets us into Christopher s world and allows us to be able to understand Christopher. He uses Christophers language and communication to unveil the reality of the idealistic thoughts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wyatt s marriage to Elizabeth was miserable and the couple is believed to have been estranged by the second half of the 1520s (Burrow). The poem can be seen as a parable relating to Anne s relationship with Henry VIII. When Wyatt speaks of the deer as the possession of the sovereign, not to be pursued by others, he is accepting that Anne has been reserved for the king alone. Wyatt would have been forced to withdraw as a suitor after the King had shown interest in her. This is made evident when Wyatt says: I leave off, therefore, / Since in a net I seek to hold the wind (7 8). He realizes the impossibility of being with Anne. It is a clever description of Henry s possessiveness and Wyatt s disappointment and feelings of helplessness under the circumstances. In 1536, Anne Boleyn was charged with adultery. Thomas Wyatt, along with four others accused of being romantically linked to the queen, were imprisoned. It was widely believed that Wyatt was indeed her lover. Another lyricist, Mark Smeaton, was among the accused in the same year so this suggests that the queen had a circle of lyrists close enough to her to make a king claim that her intimacy with these men was sexual (Burrows). However, Wyatt was released shortly after while the other accused lovers along with the queen were executed. Anne s death and his imprisonment are said to have changed him. • 10. My First Semester At Governors State University My Personal Growth Plan This is my last semester at Governors State University. There were only two classes that were part of my study plan that I needed for this semester, and I created a schedule with four weekend classes so that I could be full time. Instead of taking classes that would just look good on my resume, I decided to take classes that would help to benefit me the most and ensure my future success as a holistic human being. Other students had spoken about the Lab in Personal Growth briefly, and every person shared the same sentiment. They each stated that this was an emotional and eye opening experience that involved a great deal of emotional insight. Outside of that, I was unaware of what I was in for, but I was excited for whatever challenge was ahead. Coming into the class I was interested in learning more about how the class was going to be structured. Even while reading the book and doing the assignments I did not think much of what we were going to do. Once the schedule was passed out I was excited, but a little nervous. Meditation was a bigger part of my life during my teenage years, and yoga was something that was enjoyable, but not something I actively participated in because I have never heard of a yoga studio that worked with individuals with different abilities. Mindfulness was a word that I had heard, but only associated it with a previous Professor that I took during my associates. Unfortunately, there were many negative experiences that turned ... • 11. James Peltz Analysis Journalist James Peltz investigates and discusses capitalization of the native Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos in the United States. Dia de los Muertos has become capitalized as a theme to Halloween. Peltz points out with statistical and quoted evidence of how Dia de los Muertos is being marketed along with the purchases made by consumers before and during Halloween. I agree that the values, customs, and themes of Dia de los Muertos are being commercialized and profited through cultural appropriation and the lack of knowledge upon the non Latin citizens. The concept of cultural appropriation of Dia de los Muertos is how consumers purchase Dia de los Muertos themed products such as necklaces, earrings, bed coverings, costumes, masks, ... • 12. In Todays Modern World, Stereotype Threats Are Seen Widely, In todays modern world, stereotype threats are seen widely, yet are not spoken about very often. Darnell Rock Reporting is a book published in 1994 by Dean Myers, which focuses on a seventh grader by the name of Darnell Rock who attends Oakdale High School. Darnell Rock is a student who is known for being a troublemaker and spends most of the time at the principal s office. Since he is known for being a bad kid, people stereotypehim as if that is all he is good for. If you can t do anything positive, why are you coming to school? Darnell then tells Mr. Baker he wants to join the newspaper; Mr. Baker was shooked (7). This is a great example on how Mr. Baker stereotyped and looked down on Darnell because he knows that Darnell is no good for doing anything else but getting in trouble which is why he questions Darnell. In chapter five, Darnell was having a bad day and everything that could go wrong literally went wrong. He forgot his math book for Mr. Ohrbach s class. Mr. Ohrbach got angry and stated, It s a good thing your head is screwed on adding or you would leave that home too (44). However, Darnell did not think that was funny at all since he had heard it a hundred times and the same people always laughed. Mr. Ohrback stereotyped him to be an irresponsible person and could never get anything right. Morever, Sweeby is also a main character in the story that is negatively stereotyped. Darnell decides to interview Sweeby for his newspaper article, which is where we get most of the insight on how Sweeby is stereotyped. Confucius said, The man, who in the view of gain, thinks of righteousness; who in the view of danger is prepared to give up his life; and who does not forget an old agreement however far back it extends: such a man may be reckoned a complete man. This was his real idea of a good leader. Confucius did not want the leader to be selfish, and he wanted them to keep true to their word. His opinion was that the superior man s words should never be incorrect. He wanted the leaders to be truthful to the people, and not tell them lies. Another thing Confucius thought made a good leader was when someone who is in conduct of himself maintains a sense of shame, and does not disgrace his prince s commission, deserves to be called an officer. This means that he thought if a man had these qualities, he was considered a good officer. • 18. Islam and Great Sectarian Divide Bottom of Form * Brothers at war FOR two sects united by their belief in one Maker, one Book and one Prophet, the amount of blood spilt in the name of their respective faiths by Shias and Sunnis is truly staggering. This is specially so when one considers the tiny differences that define and divide them. Since the earliest days of Islam in the 7th century when the schism first tore the young Muslim community apart, the two sects have been warring incessantly. Untold thousands have been killed over the years, and this internecine war continues to devastate communities and nations. I am not qualified to go into the rights and wrongs of this old conflict. However, as a student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the shoe is on the other foot, and it is the minority Sunnis under the Shia heel. In Syria, the minority Alewites have ruled since the Seventies. In Sunni Saudi Arabia, the Shias are marginalised. The list goes on, but one thing is clear: both sects harbour deep distrust of each other. Indeed, in a recent Pew Institute survey on attitudes in the Muslim world, only 53 per cent of those surveyed in Pakistan considered Shias to be Muslims. This figure is even lower in several other Muslim countries. There is similar doubt on the other side, with many Shias casting doubt on Sunni beliefs. So clearly, time has only sharpened this schism, rather than healing old wounds. But while more often than not, these tensions are limited to neighbourhoods and nations, the emergence of a Shia theocracy in Iran has taken these differences to a new level. Although mediaeval Islam saw states engaging in sectarian warfare, this tendency was later suppressed in modern times, as we have just discussed. However, although the Iran Iraq war was fought over territorial claims and counter claims, overtly sectarian symbolism was deployed by both sides. And when the Americans invaded Iraq in 2003, the ruling Baath Party was ousted, and the minority Sunnis displaced from power. This led to a Shia revival, and a major gain in Iranian influence. Indeed, the US led campaign was widely viewed in the Middle East as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Representation Of Indian Literature And Film Representation of Maori in New Zealand narratives; literature and film, has been a criticised problem by Maori and academics for centuries. I will explore the representation of Maori in film and literature through a mana wahine context, directed by leading national and international mana wahine scholars. My aim is to shed light on issues that surround Maori representation and issues within the Maori community. My capstone project aims to give Maori a strong, self affirming voice. I want to reclaim my identity and empower other Maori through my personal account of being Maori in a low socio economic suburb. I believe that representations of Maori are stereotypical, derogatory, and false. Therefore, these images reflect us to the wider community in vast negative lights. Most importantly, these deceitful depictions negatively affect views Maori have of themselves. Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith is a pioneer of Kaupapa Maori Research. I will utilize her second edition of her book Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous peoples(Smith 2012) as a framework. I will compare and contrast what Smith has said in relation to other indigenous women academic s discourse of race and gender such as Bell Hooks, Leonie Pihama, and myself. Decolonizing Methodologies is an analytical investigation of the role Western academic research contributed to the process of colonization of indigenous peoples, specifically Maori. Another difference between the two is that the book does not have Fido in it. The Chicago Race Riot was an important part of history for the state of Illinois and America as a country. This paper will discuss the causes of the Chicago Race Riot, violence between Americans, and how is important to Illinois s history. The main causes of the Chicago RaceRiot are very significant to how it all started. According to Tuttle s book, RaceRiot: Chicago in the Red Summer of 1919 there are three main causes that all relate to the starting of the violent outbreak. The first cause all started at 29th street beach. There at the beach, the blacks tried to join the whites, but just the opposite happened (pp.5). The whites did everything in their power to expel the blacks from their beach (pp.5). They did just that until the blacks came back with reinforcement in their numbers causing the whites to leave their beach temporarily (pp.5). This cause basically shows that ever since the blacks fought for their way out of slavery that they were not looked at as equals. The whites still looked at themselves as superiors. They did not show it unless one of the blacks stepped out of line. For example, the incident at the 29th street beach when the blacks tried to swim at the white s beach. Just by how Tuttle explained that the law was unwritten showed that whites mostly kept it not very public about their feelings until the race riot erupted. The incident at ... The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs that we take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people reacted so strongly against immigrants. Many people had the conception that immigrants were too half witted to follow American politics. After all they were not even born here. Immigrants tended to vote in blocks together. Also the support of the vicious and criminal. This is clearly a stretch on the reality of the situation. He contradicts himself at the end by saying its root is the simple minded foreigner . • 41. St. Thomas Aquinas On The Existence Of God St. Thomas Aquinas is considered to be one of the greatest minds of the western world as well as one of the greatest theologians. In his work Summa Theologica, which he revised many times over the course of his life, he explored the existence of God, and there are essentially five ways in which St. Thomas Aquinasargues the existenceof God. The first way is the argument from change, the second way is the argument from causation, the third argument is the argument from possibility and necessity, or the reductio argument, the fourth way is the argument from gradation of being, and the fifth way is the argument from harmony. These arguments for the existence of God are presented in his work Summa Theologica. In regards to the first argument, Aquinas states that our senses prove that things are in motion. From there, potential motion becomes actual motion, and this actual motion can turn potential motion into actual motion. The example Aquinas uses is, Thus that which is actually hot, as fire, makes wood, which is potentially hot, to be actually hot, and thereby moves and changes it. Because of these arguments made by Aquinas, he says that nothing can be moved by itself because if something is both in actuality and potentially at the same time, then they have to be actual in one way but potential in a different way. Additionally, going back to the wood example, For what is actually hot cannot simultaneously be potentially hot; but it is simultaneously potentially cold. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. No Exit Character Analysis In Existential novels, another way characters are able to reconcile themselves to the absurd world is by forming connections with others like the characters in the play, No Exit. When Garcin, Inez, and Estelle are placed in hell, at first, they try to ignore each other. But, soon they realize there is no point in doing that. The more they ignore each other, the more they look back at the earth and see themselves being forgotten. This causes them to try to form connections with one another, but the connection they formed is not friendly. Instead, Garcin, Inez, and Estelle have a negative relationship where they constantly irk each other. As the poem goes on, he continues to question himself and he does not go talk to those women. He wants to form a connection with those women, but he keeps holding back. By holding himself back, he stops himself from making any human interaction. Instead, he constantly worries about the world around him and he feels trapped by it. He has also said he has heard the mermaids singing, each to each./[He does] not think that they will sing to [him] (3). The mermaids have connections among themselves, but they do not form a connection with him. Prufrock is unable to form a connection with humans or supernatural creatures. In the last line of the poem, Prufrock says, Till the human voices wake us, and we drown (3). Unless he is able to talk to other people and form connections with them, he is unable to exist so he drowns . The act of drowning represents feeling trapped because a person can t breath which represents freedom. Sheppard and Bonneau (2002) summarized the impact on physical working capacity of commonly encountered gender differences in size, body composition, haemoglobin levels, and muscular strength. According to the authors, the potential training response of female applicants is likely at least to match that of their male peers, and the needs of female police recruits are thus best accommodated by providing every opportunity to augment fitness to the required minimum level. The main weakness of any current requirement is that most police forces do not yet apply an equivalent criterion to older incumbent officers, where similar issues may arise. 2.3 ... For instance, if an employer provides online harassment training that incorporates race and sex, it should also incorporate gender identity. Apple trees generally do not begin to blossom and bear fruit until they are 5 to 8 years old. They reach maximum production at about age 20; commercial orchards are generally replaced when they reach 35 to 40 years in age. Although the trees would live longer, the fruit from old trees is generally smaller and poorer in appearance and more expensive to care for. Apple trees can withstand temperatures as low as 40 degrees C. Here in the United States apples mainly grow in Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan and California. The trees need a period of cold or dormancy to grow and bear fruit properly. So they cannot grow in tropic areas. Oranges on the other hand also were around in ancient times. Some experts have proved that they date back as far as 4,000 years ago according to ancient Chinese records. Oranges also come from the other side of the Atlantic. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the topic I learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits to year round schools than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows that their children have better end of the year test scores. They also show that English language learner children and Special Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional schools with the same programs. During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Europeans started to come over to the new world, they discovered a society of Indians that was strikingly different to their own. To understand how different, one must first compare and contrast some of the very important differences between them, such as how the Europeans considered the Indians to be extremely primitive and basic, while, considering themselves civilized. This was a very sharp contrast to the Europeans, whom had for centuries, been the top of their social hierarchy. In Europe, the women had a very relatively primitive, limited role in society. They were not allowed to attend or partake in political affairs, with very few exceptions. Now, on the other hand, in Indian society there was a council of chiefs, whom was all male, but they were appointed by an elder women. Also, during their deliberation over issues, the males made the final decision, but would be expelled from the council, if they didn t conclude to the same decision that the elder woman came to. The women s main job in Indian society, was being in charge of cultivation of, harvest of, and distribution of food. When the men left to go hunting, women were left to run society. The Europeans simply believed that the males were far superior to the family, which is why women could not have jobs, and were left to only clean, cook, and various other household chores. Coming from an economic standpoint, the Europeans and Indians were such total opposites, it often led to misunderstanding. Indians had very large trading routes well before the time of European colonization. Their experience in trade only made it easier to exchange goods with the Europeans. For Indians, trading was a way to acquire goods they wanted, but also a way to share the wealth of their land with other tribes that didn t have the same items to trade as they did. To the ...
