Yeast Glycolysis Lab Report
I believe that one factor that contributes to the rate of glucose consumption and respiration in
yeast is the glycemic index of the added sugar or sugar substitute. I have drawn these conclusions
based on the data collected by my classmates and I in addition to my prior knowledge of glycolysis.
During the testing process, some novel treatments were experimented with, including the
replacement of sugar in the experiment with maple syrup, honey, and an artificial sweetener.
Because these sugar replacements are different types of sweeteners, they have a difference in
glycemic index. The glycemic index of a food is a number that represents the number of
carbohydrates in a food and how these carbohydrates affects a person blood glucose level. A higher
glycemic index means the food can be metabolized faster. Basically, glycemic index is a
representation of how easily a cell can metabolize the sugar found in a food into glucose. Glucose
can then, in turn, be converted to pyruvate through the process of glycolysis. Pyruvate is then
metabolized into acetaldehyde, and this metabolization gives off a byproduct ... Show more content

As a baseline, the sugar used in the original experiment was basic table sugar, composed mostly
of sucrose. Sucrose has a glycemic index of 68. However, the sugar substitutes have different
glycemic indexes. Maple syrup has a GI of 54, honey has a GI of 50, and the artificial sweetener
is mostly comprised of dextrose, which has a GI of 100. As you can see in the graph, the trend
lines show that honey had the lowest amount of collected CO2, then the maple syrup and sugar are
fairly close together, and then that the artificial sweetener experiment produced much more CO2
than any of the others, and appears to be climbing at a more aggressive rate. This makes sense,
because the artificial sweetener had the highest glycemic index of any of the sugar

Identifying With Rapunzel In Disney s Tangled
I deeply identify with Rapunzel in Disney s Tangled. Rapunzel, similar to the beloved classic,
grows up in a tower with no contact to the outside world. She longs for new sights and
experiences, and fills her days with various hobbies to distract herself from wondering When will
my life begin? . Her largest source of comfort comes from her sole companion, a chameleon named
Pascal. The woman that raised her conditioned her to think that the outside world is evil, selfish,
and unsafe.
Growing up in a small town in northeastern Ohio with a population of approximately nine thousand
people, I had a very limited scope of the world. Our township had tiny, dilapidated schools and
people who could trace their family lineage back five generations as

Lincoln Electric Essay
The two most important issues that Lincoln Electric is faced with are as follows. First, the inability
to meet customer demand because of the shortages in supply creates opportunities for competing
firms to enter the industry. What resources and capabilities does Lincoln Electric have that can
mitigate this threat of entry. Second, the emphasis put on the monetary incentive plan leaves the
company vulnerable in economic hardships. How can Lincoln Electriccontinue to encourage
competition and quality without a high emphasis on monetary incentives? Examining the arc
weldingproduct industry structure will help identify the opportunities associated with that structure.

For example, their valuable and rare inventory control team maximizes efficiency and lowers cost
by loading palettes completely full of product while the competition loads palettes only half full of
product wasting valuable room. The threat of suppliers, threat of buyers, and threat of entry are the
significant threats in the arc welding product industry. Suppliers in the arc welding product industry
include all of the employees that make up a company. The suppliers can threaten performance,
quality, and production cost. The temporary competitive advantage that Lincoln Electric uses to
mitigate this threat is a valuable, (fairly) rare, (fairly) costly to imitate, organizationally competent
employee compensation program. The program includes large bonuses, pays per piecework, and
guarantees 75% employment forever. This program also exploits the opportunities associated with
the cost advantages in the mature and international industry through economies of scale. For
example, the learning curve illustration in figure 6.2 and equation 6.5 in chapter 6 of Barney
shows that as the cumulative amount of time spent on a project increases (turnover is low), per
unit cost decreases. Due to the rapid change in industry demand, the threat of buyers quickly
becomes an issue. Without adequate supply, buyers are forced to move to new suppliers. This can
lead to a loss in future business. Lincoln

Space Exploration: Apollo missions
By Kenneth Hanks FDSCI 101 41 fall 2015 10/30/2015
What was the motivation that led to the discovery?
The Apollo program was conceived during the Eisenhower administration in 1960. Up until this
time the US space program had only supported one astronaut in flight. The Apollo program would
carry 3 astronauts. The motivation was to be able to orbit 3 instead of 2 or 1. At the beginning of
the research and design into Apollo, the trips to the moon were not anticipated until the far future.
The US was perceived to be behind the USSR in space exploration. President Kennedy changed all
that.
What questions were asked?

Space historian James Hansen concludes that:
Without NASA s adoption of this stubbornly held minority opinion in 1962, the United States may
still have reached the Moon, but almost certainly it would not have been accomplished by the end
of the 1960s, President Kennedy s target date.

Memorial Hall Essay
Memorial Hall
When walking through Boston s renowned Harvard Yard, one may scope out the mixture of
architecture throughout its landscape. From the traditional Memorial Hall influenced by
Romanesque churches, to the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard Yard is like a salad
bowl of architecture. Perhaps because I am a lover of Victorian style structures, or maybe because
of its interior s beauty and richness, Memorial Hall intrigued my interest most of all.
Memorial Hall, which was originally a civil war monument, is now a theater and student union for
Harvard University. The 19th century architects Robert Ware and Henry Van Brunt designed this
building to resemble the Victorian Gothic Romanesque churches of the time. ... Show more content

This window also allows a colorful light inside the memorial of the building. The interior of
Memorial Hall differs from the gothic structures that the building resembles from the outside. While
gothic structures were composed mostly of stone, Memorial Hall is decorated with walnut. The
vaulting, which traditionally would be made of stone, is made of wood. There is a repeated use of
the rosette, trefoil, quatrefoil, and cross motifs that help connect the exterior with the interior of the
building. These details are found in the wood carvings of Sanders Theater, the great transept doors,
the sandstone frieze that surrounds the exterior, the columns and wrought iron gates, the buttress,
the stained glass windows, and the chandeliers. Also there is ornamental ironwork that outlines the
roof if Sanders Theater and crowns the four subsidiary towers. Another feature of Memorial Hall
that captures the mood of its exterior is the layout of the remaining original furnishings throughout
the building. The materials used to construct the interior and exterior of Memorial Hall create a
defined space in which the building captivates.
When I walked through Memorial Hall I became instantly drawn into the structure. The marble
floors, the dark wood moldings, and the gold, maroon, and green d #233;cor are qualities

Essay on Right Wing Resurgence
Right Wing Resurgence In the mist of a disgruntled working class, one Austrian born man rose to
power, playing on their fears of immigrants, unemployment and globalization. By mixing social
populism, xenophobia, German nationalism with personal charisma, he was able to make his
political party one of the strongest in his nation. Many would believe that this would be a
description of the infamous dictator Adolph Hitler. Rather, it is a description of Jorg Haider,
recent governor of the Austrian state of Carinthia and former leader of the Austrian Freedom Party.

Both of these parties have been able to obtain much political recognition in their countries. They
also share many of the same characteristics, as well as tactics that have allowed them to become
successful. First, both parties are lead by very charismatic leaders. The Swiss People s Party is
lead by the industrialist Christoph Blocher, while the Freedom Party is lead by Jorg Haider.
Both men are extremely charismatic and energetic. Secondly, these two parties carry much of the
same policy, like incoherent economic policies, a rejection of European integration, and ugly
attacks on immigrants. Oddly, both leaders also have similar views on WWII and the Holocaust.
Christoph Blocher once praised a book that claimed that the Holocaust never took place, while
Jorg Haider has publicly praised Hitler s employment practices, and called SS veterans patriots
(UPI). Similar leaders is not the only thing that the Freedom Party and the Swiss People s Party
have in common. Both parties gain power by playing on people s fear of losing what they have. For
example, both parties claim that immigration is taking jobs away from citizens. Austria however
has 4 percent unemployment, which is less than half of the European Average. Despite an
economic downturn, Switzerland continues to be one of the world s wealthiest nations. (UPI)

Social Work As A Profession
Social work as a profession is a universal and opportunistic field. The field itself ranges from
placements in mental health to even education. One of the most prominent and growing areas in
the field is medical social work. According to the NASW, social workers in hospitals and medical
centers provide frontline services to patients with conditions spanning the entire healthcare
continuum. Medical social workincludes settings such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes,
rehabilitation centers, etc. Within these settings, the social worker work with other social workers,
however, they also become a part of an interdisciplinary team. The interdisciplinary team consists of

Furthermore, acknowledging the importance of social workers placed in these environments. The
communion between Dr. Cabot and Ida led to the establishment of the first organized department
of social work at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1914. Throughout history, social workers
continued to solidify their role in a medical location. In time the health care team came to rely
upon social workers to clarify and address the psycho social factors associated with diagnosis and
treatment of the patient s medical illness (Gregorian, 2005).
In order to work in the field of social work, there are certain credentials and licensure that needs to
be met. The licensing exam is necessary for the field because it provides consumer protection.
There are two types of licenses for social work in New York State and they are Licensed Masters in
Social Work (LMSW) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In order to work as a medical
social worker in New York State typically you must acquire a Masters in social work as well as
licensure. A few hospitals might hire you upon receiving your master s degree, but it is required to
obtain the licensure within a given time period.
This line of work comes with numerous responsibilities and even some that extend beyond of the
typical time range for a job. Discharge planning is often times a major component of the job.

Home Loans And Bear Stearns ( Jpmorgan Chase Bank
I was unlucky enough to be front and center working for a homebuilder at the time of the real
estate crisis. The mindset of sellers, realtors and mortgage brokers before the bubble burst was
something that was very obvious to me as a lack of care for the long term homeowners and their
financial welfare. While the banks like Countrywide Home Loans and Bear Stearns (JPMorgan
Chase Bank) were making billions of dollars on mortgages, they were ridiculous in thinking that
this would not come back on them tenfold. How can you purchase a loan and approve it through
underwriting without first verifying the documents were accurate? How could I get a home
loan when I was 21 and had a credit score of 1? Well, this definitely happened. I had a cosigner, of
course, but still, the qualifying standards back in 2005 were relaxed to a fault. I liked to think that

Divine Command Theory And Natural Law Theory
Religion has always been a central part of human history, tracing back to the earliest known records
in human existence. From the ancient Egyptians to the Mayans, from the Celts to the Greeks and
Romans, from Hinduism to Judaism to Catholicism, religion has always been the center of human
culture. Recent studies have suggested that religionwas centered on advanced alien races whose
technology was misunderstood. However, one thing is undeniable, these age old systems of
belief and worship of a higher being or deity were, in a sense, their own moral systems, two of
which are Divine Command Theory and Natural Law Theory. These two systems, among others,
once guided and advised ancient humans in moral judgements. Divine Command Theory is a
proposed relationship between moral correctness and the higher deity s commands, henceforth
the deity will be called god. This situation is elaborated upon in a dialogue between Socrates and
Euthyphro, in where Socrates asks Euthyphro what it means to be pious or to be morally right.
After failed attempts to answer this, Socrates proposes two options to this question that is
known as the Euthyphro Dilemma, Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious? Or is it
pious because it is loved by the gods? (text). In other words, is the pious thing inherently pious
(a.k.a morally right) and therefore is loved by the gods, or is being loved by the gods what causes
something to be morally right. In effect, it asks whether moral rightness was

John Nash is a renowned mathematician most recognized for his theory of equilibrium and life

completed his graduate studies in mathematics at Princeton University ( People and Events: John

Professor/researcher ( Big Ideas. Big Thinkers. John Nash, 2003). Though Hollywood is often

Most patients who decide to stop taking their pills or abandon their treatment plan do not usually
get better. However, it important to note that when Nash initially stopped his treatment plan, he
functioned relatively poorly for many years ( Leo Torrey, 2002). In the 1980s, Nash started to
improve and became more engaged with the world around him ( People and Events: John Nash
(1928 ), 1999). He even received the Nobel Prize in economics in 1994, at the very ripe age of 66
( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999)! Nash is now exploring mathematics at an office
in Princeton and has remarried his wife ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999). It is
unclear how he improved yet it is important to shy away from the idea of random miracle
recoveries. Old age tends to bring on a remission of symptoms. Dr. Nash has not received a
miracle cure but rather has had a partial remission of his symptoms related to his advancing age
(Leo Torrey, 2002). Furthermore, John Nash has learned to almost actively reject his hallucinations.
He is quoted in A Straight Look at Schizophrenia, as saying, if one makes an effort to Г«rationalize
one s thinking then one can simply recognize and reject the irrational hypotheses of delusional
thinking (Keefe, 2002). It appears that his illness has left him to cope in a way that his genius mind

Methods for Testing Water Quality
This report shows in details different methods that may be conducted in order to test the quality of
the water. First of all, the water quality is defined by its characteristics. They may be biological,
chemical, and physical. The water quality standards differ due to several environmental impacts.
Physically, the first tested impact is temperature. It has a high influence on the quality since it
may cause different type of pollution and will also have a high influence on biological activities.
When the temperature of water will become very far from its acceptable range, there will have a
direct negative impact on species and living organisms. The water temperature is inversely
proportional to the dissolved oxygen level. The second factor that affects the water quality is the
potential of hydrogen pH . Many organisms are affected by their medians pH. If the pH gets
outside of its acceptable range, plants and animals die. It is divided into three categories: acidic
( 7), neutral (= 7), basic ( 7). When the median is acidic, it causes corrosion for the pipes and
aesthetic problems. When the median is alkaline, the water will become bitter. Solids are divided
into two categories: suspended and dissolved. They are present in lakes and streams. Suspended
solids are particles that will be retained by filtering. It includes silts and sediments. Aquatic life is
negatively affected when the level of TDS is high. They are mostly found in acidic rainfall like
H+ and hard water like

Waiting For Godot Literary Analysis
Literary texts such as short stories, poems, and dramatic texts are usually read for pleasure and
entertainment. They may be a haven for some who want to take a break from reality. When one
reads, he or she plunges into a new space, or a new world, created by the author s imagination. At
the same time, the reader is also seeing life and reality through the author s eyes. Literature reflects
the human life and condition in a way that it enables readers to relate with the characters and their
situations. It depicts how humans try to cling to life and search for its meaning and purpose.
However, life is truly meaningless and humans just create the illusion of desire to justify their own

just makes up the desire, the Godot, the illusion that life has meaning that he gives himself to

certain if he will ever come. While they wait, they get distractions in Pozzo and Lucky, which
makes them believe that something is actually happening. Like in a man s life, he has distractions
while waiting for his desire to arrive. And because he feels that something is happening, he is led to

Throughout the play, Estragon repeatedly tells Vladimir that they should leave and abandon the

ABSTRACT
Apache Cassandra is another open source distributed database management system developed to
handle large data sets. It is a gift given to the big data users by Facebook in 2008. The purpose of
this research is to highlight the importance of Cassandra in the world of NoSQL by discussing
about some of the main questions like, what are the difficulties faced with the traditional relational
database management systems, how these issues are solved by using NoSQL, how Cassandra
came into existence, why it is used by some of the major organizations to handle their data sets, etc.

There are many NoSQL databases and each either have some common functionalities or have some
unique functionalities when compared to the relational model. The main thing to be considered is
that none of the NoSQL results work for all scenarios. Each works better than the relational
models and satisfies some subsets of the use cases. Apache Cassandra is one of the NoSQL
databases which is most widely used in the industrial market. This article gives a detailed
information about Cassandra, its functionalities, its advantages and disadvantages which seem to be
deceptive for someone who look at Cassandra for the first time.

1.1. Difficulties with traditional RDBMS
In the initial stages of evolution of databases, relational databases systems was designed as a
solution to the problems of flat file databases. A relational databasestores data in multiple table.
This technique helped to overcome the issues like data duplication, data noise and inconsistency
which ensured that the data is entered and stored only once. Later as the data grew in size, it
became a challenging task to handle such a significantly large amount of data. Key features like
high data velocity, data variety, data volume and data complexity are few important reasons which
the traditional database systems failed to handle successfully. As a result NoSQL came into

abundant that she used such advanced terminologies to describe those users of MySpace and
Facebook. The most wonderful part of this essaywas she used neutural (but a little bit partial) point
of view to convey her thought based on some judgements. Boyd wrote I don t have the language

She described how good kids are flocking in Facebook and bad kids are flocking in MySpace.
Many of them left MySpace for Facebook in high school. Those who use MySpace tend to be high
school graduated in working class and those who use Facebook are upper class with higher college
education. She used an example in military to emphasize that hegemonic teens and subaltern
teens are divided by these two social networks as the reflection in high school. Soldiers are on
MySpace; officers are on Facebook. The author illustrated the Facebook users received college
training while MySpace users were poor and less educated. Even those soldiers profiles revealed
their violent natural characters. Therefore, the military ban of MySpace would considered as a
class division in military. The author guessed that MySpace users may spend too much time on
line and the officers want them to pay more attention and responsibilities on their duties. It just
an educated guess because nobody know whether this class division would have any conflict of
their respective interest. I think this was one of the reasons of this military ban. Facebook is
extremely popular in the military. How clear was it shown in Boyd s perspective that MySpace
would be an obstacle for Facebook in the military. That is why she would emphasize extremely
popular as she was

The Ethics Of Enterprise Risk Management
Enterprise risk management views all risks to the firm as subject to management and control
(Fraser Simkins, 2010, p. 351). As we have learned, Enterprise Risk Management has three
primary principles, which are: ensure organizational survival, provide social responsibility, and
increase the organization s value, while engaging employees in performance and maintaining
their well being (Bethel, 2016). In its simplest terms, legal risk equates to financial loss (Smith,
2008). In researching for this assignment, I read several articles relating to the subject matter and
remarkably, each article addressed the topic in very similar ways. Fundamentally, the articles
established a framework for identifying and addressing issues that could rise to the level of risk.
Similarly, the reading assignment, lecture, and articles all stated that while risk cannot be avoided
it can be subdued or minimized if dealt with correctly and timely. Further, the lecture and articles
stated some risk is good for business operations, but organizations are charged with determining
whether the risk is worthy of the investment. What are the challenges for today s Human
Resources professionals? Unfortunately, there is a shortage of critical skills talent for some key
roles within many organizations (Jacobs, 2013). Indeed, there is a percentage of workers who
cannot find gainful employment, but sadly many do not have the skills employers are looking for
or need to maintain and exceed their

Choices In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Choices are present in every aspect of society, and all humans are forced to make choices
throughout their lifetimes. One of those choices that must be made correlates with a theme that
resonates throughout all of William Shakespeare s plays. One of his works, A Midsummer Night s
Dream, can provoke his readers to significantly ponder on the idea of love. All individuals must
decide for themselves how love works. Is it a choice, or unavoidable feelings that can t be
explained? It can be debated that in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, individuals do
not have the luxury of being able to choose whom they love. Their hearts simply just love. This
play has a rather symbolic way of revealing its author s interpretation of this theme. Every

Pubic Shaming
Analytical Summary of Cole Stryker s The Problem with Public Shaming
In The Problem with Public Shaming, an essay that first appeared in the Nation, Stryker argues
against the form of public shaming promoted by online networks and how people have figured out
a way to deal with crimes but not with social media. Stryker introduced the essay s subject matter
through social media examples, while reflecting on past experiences and stating important details
that reinforce the subject of public shaming as well as dox and discusses this term throughout the
essay. Stryker helps define the term dox by listing the common traits and information doxxers try to
gather, which include name, phone number, address, social security and financial... Show more

When justifying a punishment, American adjudicators look for five reasons to justify the
punishment: incapacitation, restitution, deterrence, rehabilitations and retribution. Out of these
five reasons only three apply to doxxing and even then they are classified as deeply noted social
ills (racism, sexism and homophobia) to shame others. Stryker continually states that people are
bound to impulses they hate.
Having demonstrated how the use of technology can influence young generations, Stryker goes
on to say that punishing those who make bad and or racist remarks only breeks further hatred.
Stryker uses a hypothetical example to support his claim and explain why. He continues to go
further and give real world examples of how a New York City EMT was fired because of his
racist tweets on his online profile (Stryker 588). This strengthened Stryker s position on how
publicly shaming an individual only causes more harm and problems.
During Stryker s claim he provides an excellent example of how news wants to get everything
out first even if it is not accurate. The example he provides is from Sandy Hook and how in the
beginning of a major event reporters are notoriously bad at getting the facts straight (Stryker 589).
He then relates this to social media and how once something is out even though it might be
incorrect people are still going to believe it because it was on social media. The intent however for

Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing
Nursing Evidence Based Practice
Findings of evidenced based practice have to be disseminated to ensure that innovations for practice
are replicated or applied in other settings by stakeholders in the health fraternity and healthcare
professionals (Forsyth, Wright, Scherb Gaspar, 2010). One of the objectives of dissemination
should be to improve the practice. Dissemination of evidenced based practice findings in nursing is
very critical in knowledge synthesis, translation, and translation. It is imperative in strengthening
healthcare, informing policy, and improving practice decisions based on clinical evidence (Rycroft
Malone Bucknall, 2010). This is realized by transforming clinical changes into practice. It actually
involves two stage processes namely: translation of evidence into practice and integration of
research recommendations into actual practice. Effective dissemination of evidence based practice
findings enable staff to share information about developments in healthcare practice and implement
innovation (Freemantle Watt, 1994).
Dissemination enables healthcare professionals to make decisions based on the quality of
information they receive on effectiveness and cost effectiveness of a proposed healthcare
intervention. Dissemination of evidenced based research findings using any medium enables health
facility staff members to access research findings and critique the findings (Bradley, McSherry
McSherry, 2010). Service users and carers also access such

Who Is Paulo Coelho Omens In The Alchemist
Omens have been used throughout history in many different cultures to assist spiritual seekers with
finding their way, which is why Paulo Coelho incorporates such use of omens in his famous novel,

the desert, and the cobra, which Paulo Coelhoused as way showers for Santiago to follow on the
path in experiencing his personal legend. Paulo Coelho is the author of The Alchemist, and his
religion shows through in his writings with the use of omens and symbolism. Coelho changed

Alchemist is the rocks that Melchizedek gives to Santiago. They are called Urim and Thummim.
The black signifies yes, and the white no. (Coelho 12). These two rocks are to help Santiago
follow different signs throughout the story. Although Santiago only uses them a few times during
The Alchemist, they are there to offer guidance whenever he may need them. Santiago first
acquired these rocks from Melchizedek, the King of Salem and the way Santiago received the
rocks was very similar to how they were used in history. Urim and Thummim were embedded into
an important Priest s breastplate. Over the years, Urim and Thummim have been known as light and

Assess Sociological Explanations Of The Benefits Of Social...
All of a sudden, I found myself thinking sociologically when I started wondering about how get
payed differently. As a society we have set up many barriers around people that makes them feel
that they have very little that they can do. We have divided society into social classes that
arranged from the upper class to the middle class then lower class. These classes that are set
make some people feel like they are at a disadvantage when it comes to many things. After having
a long thought about this I think that removing the social classes will be very beneficial to many
people. Some the rich people will say that they like how it is now because they are getting lots of
benefits from the social classes and that it s not their fault they have more than others.
The social classes have been a part of history for a very long time. When we look back into
history we see that the social classes has been around for more than 5,000 years. It changes but it
never goes away. I think that taking it away will open up more chances for people who are not
privileged enough to do certain things because knowledge and wealth is power. When you have the

Alabama Short Stories
In Alabama, in the country, next to a dirt road and a muddy lake that was full of green water,
where you couldn t go to sleep because the frogs croaked too loud, there was a large house. The
large house was made of splintery wood, and was inhabited by only one person. Now, the lake
that his house was built on had been where a boy named Ronald Pratt had been ran over after
removing the bricks from in front of the wheels of a flaming portable, saving the lives of many
kids after the portable rolled into the lake and the fire was extinguished. One day, the man who
owned the house was in his bed at 8:30 pm and he heard a whisper. He couldn t make out any

the man living in the house. He claimed that there was a ghost in the lake, and that the officer
must have been killed by it! The detectives found this preposterous, and dismissed the man as
crazy. At 11:00, the detectives were still there. They heard the whispering. Maybe the man was
right! They thought. Maybe there WAS a ghost. They left with a report saying that he drowned,
but they didn t know why. In the end, the man moved away from his old house by the lake. The
county renamed the lake from Lake Fletcher to The Haunted Lake. Over the years, three foolish

In addition, I have enjoyed learning the business canvas model elements and applying them to the

Furthermore, I continue to learn to effectively and efficiently synthesis my findings and relate them

focusing on APA is imperative moving forward. I will have to go back and utilize the resources

Inquiry Intention Essay
Inquiry Intention:
I come from Republican baby boomer parents, whose parents before them were Republicans and
so on. Growing up, I had strict political ideas fused into my spongy childhood brain without any
realization on my part. I m from a very liberal part of the country, and I remember in middle
school, discussing politics in my civics class, and being confused as to why people would get so
mad about the ideas I held as true. My parents talked about this stuff, how could what they say be
lies or arrogant responses to social issues? I soon realized through discussion with my peers that
a lot of the stuff I said I believed in I really didn t agree with and that my views were vastly
different from my parents and those before them. From there I went super radical liberal, spewing
my views at my parents telling them they were wrong! After countless arguments with them, I gave
up. They weren t going to change, and in my cynical teenage head I decided that this was true of
everyone. Nobody changes, nothing changes, everything sucks. Then I gave up on not only

A down payment of $70,000 would be required, and a first year interest payment of $45,370
(Exhibit 9). It is expected that the two machines would run at 40% capacity bringing in incremental
revenue of $613,225, and incremental operating income of $234,855. The cost breakdown structure
and the incremental gains for the laser cutter and water cutter can be seen in Exhibit 10. The ROI
at 40% capacity is 33.80% (Exhibit 5), which is well above the banks lending rate. The payback
period at 40% capacity is the lowest of all options at 3 years (Exhibit 6). With a score of 30, this
option scored the highest against the decision criteria (Exhibit 7). This is largely due strongest cash

Recommendations
Adamac should go ahead with the expansion plan to purchase a new laser cutter and water jet.
The two machines should be purchased as soon as possible. Together the two machines offer the
best incremental revenues, and have the shortest payback period, and highest ROI. The Down

What Is A Lie Essay
The lie.
I mean the lie is the first sin we commit. As children, we often learn always to tell the truth.
However, there is an opportunity in life when we are taking the first steps toward a lie: to avoid a
punishment, to achieve a goal, to adapt to a situation, or to enhance our status. It is for this reason
that the lies are so close to us.
There are different levels of lies, and none of them is okay, not even the white little lie. A white lie
is a lie that offers consolation and a false belief of security. The best cover up of the lie is the
absence of truth. The absence of truth is a lie that is harder to see through but to defraud, and
omission of information as a tool to fool us from the truth is a lie straight through.
One of the main features of people who defraud information or omit the truth is that they are
constantly on the defensive. Because of this, they do not want to collaborate and have few
explanations for why they should be perceived as trustworthy, and they are trying to ... Show more

It does not matter how painful the truth is. It offers us an opportunity to strengthen our ability to
make decisions, analyse things, and determine our emotional and cognitive identity.
What does the truth give? It gives you confidences, self esteem, and respect. To others, it provides
integrity, authenticity, and an opportunity for a free choice.
Keep in mind that honesty is the most important thing in life when dealing with other people.
Therefore, always be honest because it is the only way to grow the integrity of the relationship and

The Impact Of Internet Legislation On The Internet
The goal of the legislation was to improve the access of the internet and to allow the consumers
to receive equal access to all internet sites no matter what provider they are using. This allows
people to select the applications or sites they wish to get their information, giving them a
freedom not many have. As shown before these companies have been fined and reprimanded for
breaking the law, however this brings forth a probe to see if this policy been successful in
creating an equal internet for the consumer. According to CBS NL it states that the dutch

people in 2005. The statistics presented by the Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) show that
as the internet evolved people became more dependent on the internet leading to an expansion of
people using the internet (CBS 2012). Additionally, the Netherlands holds the highest percentage
of internet users than in most developed countries in Europe (CBS). However, as we see that
more people in the Netherlands use the internet ISPs also introduced a raise in prices to help with
the lost revenue the law created. Although consumers were being charged more many advocates
still see it as a victory by stopping ISPs from raising the prices significantly higher than the are now
creating a consensus between the ISPs and its consumers.

Analysis Of A River Runs Through It By Norman Maclean
The natural world has a unique power unequivocal to anything human to make one deeply
contemplative, introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies
to this power in his novella A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river
Norman Maclean captures the humansoul and what it means to grow up, his story explaining how a
river affects a man. Robert Redford s movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of
the Blackfoot river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life
and how those affect his character and life choices. A River Runs through it encapsulates the
emotional growth Norman undergoes growing up via his relationship with the river... Show more

For Maclean, the river was always highly personal he even refers to it as my family s river multiple
times demonstrating the profound effect it had on his upbringing. The deepest familial moments
such as Norman offering Paul help, discussing life plans, or Norman finding common ground with
his father, all occur while fishing on the Blackfoot or in transit to it.
Maclean also uses the rivers changing topography to reveal his emotions once he returns to
Montana from his time at Dartmouth, a much more metropolitan refined place. He writes, the
family river changed find that quote , and appears melancholy, but later comes to accept that things
have changed and time moves forward. Once again viewing the river as something of personal
ownership reveals Norman s own emotions about himself. He sees that the river and town has
grown, with development along the river altering its serenity but then he begins to accept the
change (find quote) as part of the cycle of growth and acceptance. Because he uses the river to
represent himself, his long thoughts about the industry developing symbolize norman s internal
conflict returning to a very different Missoula than the one he left. The moment he learns to accept
that things change, like the town becoming larger and more urban, and cannot be the same forever
marks the peak of character growth. Throughout the entire novella, these emotional changes are
highlighted through metaphors involving the river

Dog Sees God Play Analysis
Ohlone College Theatre and Dance Department knocked it out of the park with its provocative
production of Dog Sees Go: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. The play by Bert V. Royal,
which debuted at the New York Fringe Festival in 2004, was performed in the fall of 2012. Dog
Sees God is a dramatization of Charles Schulz s Peanuts cartoon. These lovable characters are all
grown up and dealing with the insane world of high school. The main attraction, CB (Charlie
Brown), is questioning the existence of an afterlife after his dogdies (this was a big surprise). His
friends are too involved in their own drama and can t really help him, but a chance meeting with
Beethoven (Schroeder), the target of this group s bullying, offers CB solace and thus begins a
friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. The universal themes presented suicide, drug
use, child sexual abuse, eating disorders, teen violence, struggles with identity, rebellion, sexual
relations couldn t be more current,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this scene, Matt (Pigpen) approaches Beethoven in the choir room about staying away from CB.
When Beethoven, an outcast to begin with, stands up for himself, Matt, being the school bully,
smashes his fingers on the piano. When I first read and later watched this scene, I was shocked, and
observed the same reaction ripple through the audience. This was exactly what the director wanted.
Navarre s intent was to make the audience feel deeply, with the hopes of making an impact that
would provide reflection and questions about who we are as people and how we live. In a post
show discussion, one person commented, Though I believe homosexuality is wrong, bullying is
also wrong. This is food for serious reflection. And if we can get just one person to think like that,
then the director s intention and the theme of the play have

A Brief Note On Sand And Art Play
Providing both a sand area and an art area as play centers in a children s hospital playroom is
essential for providing a variety of therapeutic, sensory, child directed, and developmentally
appropriate play activities. Sand and art play can help children of various ages to express
themselves, work on their fine motor skills, unleash their creativity, and just be kids while in the
unfamiliar and potentially frightening hospital environment (CITE 1). There is evidence that helps
to support the functions and needs for a sand area and an art area in a children s hospital playroom.
There is a wide range of modalities in which sand play can be used with children. For example,
children are able to make shapes, express themselves, and much more through sand play. Given
these various modalities, sand play has many strengths and can be considered a therapeutic
medium for play (CITE 4). According to Louise Craig, when children are engaged in sand play
they are simultaneously using both hands, which means that children are using both lobes of the
brain, which, in turn, benefits the total involvement of the person in their play (CITE 4). Sand play
has been argued to be an easy medium to therapeutic play, as it requires no skills or talent and it
provides children with control over an environment. There is evidence that both extroverted and
introverted children can benefit from the use of sand play.
Sand play is considered a sensory play activity. Sensory play activities allow

What Is The Playoff Push Essay
The Playoff Push
It was week 13, and panic was beginning to set in. My record was now 6 6 after losing 3 weeks
in a row. The playoffs were approaching and I was fighting for a playoff spot, trying to beat out
the other teams who were holding me back, like Poseidon. I studied the waiver wire, trying not
cut my finger on my shattered phone, over and over again like my life depended on it. The TV
was playing softly in the background, just loud enough so I could hear it. Then I heard the words
that I wait all week for, And now welcome your host, Matthew Berry .
Matthew Berry was like my Athena, guiding me through my journey and helping me make

Touchdown after Touchdown, point after point, but I sat motionless on the couch, like a sack of
potatoes, trying not to miss a minute of the action. The day felt like it would never end.
The morning games were beginning to end, and the afternoon games were beginning to kickoff
now and I was losing 65 55, but I knew that a comeback was still possible. Then all the stars began
to align. Within the span of 3 minutes, McCown threw a touchdown, Evans caught a touchdown
and Matt Prater nailed a field goal right through the middle of the uprights. I was now winning 97
86 with only the Sunday night game remaining. Tonight the Vikings were playing the seemingly
unstoppable Jaguars in Jacksonville. Earlier in the day, I ended up making the last minute decision
to start Murray over McCoy, however, he still had Bortles and Fournette to play. The projections
were 102 105 in his favor, and we were neck to neck and the race was about to end.
The time had come, it was now or never. I was still sitting on the couch, but now I was sitting up
tense, panicking with blood rushing through my veins. They had just kicked off and my dad sat
down next to me with a comforting look and put his long, hairy arm over my shoulder. Trying to
make me a little more at ease he said: I m praying for you buddy.
The Jaguars were off to a hot start in the first half, with Bortles throwing two perfect touchdown
passes to Marcedes Lewis, who seemed as big as the Laestrygonians, and

Importance Of Education Is Education
Power, Privilege, And Responsibility is Education
Imagine what the world will be like without education. Malcolm X states that without education,
you are not going anywhere in this world. People think they will get through life without
education, but little do they know the importance of it. Educated individuals have power because
they are able to understand complex info and are more informed to prevent being taken advantage
of. It is also a privilege because not everyone has access to education and those who do have
education get better treatment. Education is a responsibility because educated people have to act
fairly and honestly. Don Cardinal did a speech about Appreciating Your Privilege, Embracing Your

Trust is power (Cardinal 4). Skloot shows how education is power throughout the whole book.
One of the ways that was shown how education is power is by Deborah who lacked in education
because she says, when I go to the doctor for my checkups I always say my mother was Hela...
(Skloot 9). Deborah at a young age left school in the sixth grade to go help in the field but then she
ended up going to school and barely finished high school. She hardly understood anything because
she was practically deaf and had a difficult life at home. The only reason why she barely finished
was because Bobbette, a very close family told her I don t care what you do, but you get an
education, cause that s your only hope (Skloot 116). Second reason why she lacked in power
was because she does not really know anything about her mother except that her mother was
used in the science world. Deborah must rely on Skloot for information because Skloot
understands the scientific terms unlike her. The third reason why she lacked in power was
because Deborah does not know who to trust. Before she met Skloot, a man name Sir Lord
Keenan Kester Cofield came trying to help the Lacks family by informing them what Hopkins
did with their mother cells, but things ended up bad. The attorney of Hopkins told the Lacks
family who Cofield was, he was a man who got out of prison, lying about who he was saying he

The 1950s Rock N Roll Movement
Introduction
The 1950s rock n roll movement was rooted from a style of music created by black people and
their descendants (Scaruffi, 2005). The lives of Americans were changed, as the older
generation looked down upon this genre and life style, while the young generation fell in love
with it ( America, 2008). Artist of the 1950s played a huge roll in the ideas that influenced every
aspect of it such as legends Buddy Holly and Little Richard. From moral changes to political
changes rock n roll arrived to America ready to make an everlasting impact (Stewart, 2008).
Although the decades have passed, and the times have changed rock n roll holds a legacy that will
forever impact the lives of people as a whole.
Foundations Of Rock n Roll
After World War 2, the world was faced with a bipolar world of the two winners: the USSR and
the US (Scaruffi, 2005). The world was left with international bitterness and resentment and unlike
other wars, a war on ideology. The war changed almost every aspect of life, because ideologies
and morals began to shift and change. The post War era had brought along with it many new
technologies such as the boom of cars, computers and even ... Show more content on

Rock n roll was not a specific genre but it led to many different genres and styles of music to be
created. Since rock n roll was founded on the basis of folk and blues many of the first artists were
black, but were given little credit at the time such as Little Richard, whose song Tutti Frutti was
covered by Pat Boone, and topped higher on music charts ( Music, 2004). The first rock n roll
band was formed (the Comets) by white artist Bill Haley in 1952, and they quickly began to
climb Billboard charts making the first rock n roll song to enter the Billboard charts (Scaruffi,
2005). The Comets showed that rock n roll was an instant hit,and there was a big audience hungry

Abc Ethics Case Against Contraception
Since their development, contraceptive techniques and their widespread use have caused some
controversy between groups with different views on the issue. Contraception is defined as the
deliberate use of artificial methods or other techniques to prevent pregnancy as a consequence of
sexual intercourse. The major forms of artificial contraception are barrier methods, of which the
most common is the condom, the contraceptive pill, which contains synthetic sex hormones that
prevent ovulation in the female; intrauterine devices, such as the coil, which prevent the fertilized
ovum from implanting in the uterus; and male or female sterilization.
(Source: Jarvis Thomson, Judith. A Defense of Abortion)
Many reasons have been thrown around on why contraception is wrong, one of them being that it is
unnatural. You could be preventing an act of God by terminating a pregnancythat would of
happened without the contraception. Also it is believed that by terminating what could would have
been a pregnancy you have now crossed the line into anti life, since this is an act of abortion and it
prevents people who might benefit humanity from being born .

There are those who believe that any technique that could interfere with the potential for
conception is an attempt to play God and violates God s Word. At the other end of the spectrum
are those who consider all methods of contraception as viable, even those that could destroy a
developing embryo. Between these two extremes are various positions held by people who believe
some, but not all, birth control methods are acceptable. Playing God is a big issue in the Christian
community and like the quote states above for their belief system birth control takes the control out
of God s hands and it now depends on a manmade

Edward Albee has portrayed two characters in his play called The Zoo Story . These characters
are Peter and Jerry. Both these characters display a very different role in the play. Peter works as
an executive in a publishing house whereas Jerry is an abnormal person who seems to be lonely.
Albee uses human isolation as his theme in the play. This can be seen when Jerry symbolize zoo to
show the disconnection of relation among people. Communication with people does not occur in
the zoo as we are separated from the bars in it. When zoo is compared with real life situation,
everyone has limited time to communicate to each other. The play ... Show more content on

play, Jerry approached Peter first to chat. The social gap could explain Jerry s isolation where his
surrounding does not encouraged him to mingle with others. Even though Jerry feels lonely but he

What It Means to Be an Effective Teacher
Introduction
Teach these boys and girls nothing but Facts. Facts alone are wanted in life. That was the view of
the characters Thomas Gradgrind and Mr M Choakumchild, created by Charles Dickens in his
novel Hard Times, a novel which satirises school teachers who teach nothing but facts and regards
students as little vessels ... ready to have imperial gallons of facts poured into them until they were
full to the brim. Reciting facts for students to absorb is undoubtedly an easy method of teaching,
but is it effective?
This essay attempts to answer the question of what it means to be an effective teacher by examining
in more detail five areas that, when implemented effectively, can help to produce a productive
learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, a teacher needs to decide what is important to learn (Anderson Krathwohl as cited by
Eggen Kauchak, 2010, p.390) and, in order to do this the teacher must have a good understanding
of their student s current knowledge of the topic and their abilities (Whitton et al., 2010). If, as
suggested in paragraph four, the teacher has taken the time to get to know each of their students,
this knowledge will be to hand when it comes to planning the lesson.
Furthermore, as part of the overall lesson plan, an effective teacher will specify the objectives that
are to be achieved, that is, what students should have learnt or be able to do with the information
taught (Whitton et al., 2010). This ensures that the teacher can design their learning activities
effectively, stay on topic and control the momentum of the lesson an important factor in effective
classroom management according to Kounin (as cited by Hurst Cooke, p.232).
The method by which the content will be delivered also has to be considered when planning a
lesson, and variety in delivery is important to offer students different ways in which to learn
(Featherston, 2007). The instructional strategy chosen will vary depending upon the topic, the age
of the students and their prior knowledge, although teachers who want their students to focus on
thinking and reasoning will naturally integrate group work and activities with instruction and

Japanese Naval Colossal
Have you ever thought about the reason for the defeat of the Imperialistic Japanese Naval
Colossal? The Japanese lost many aircraft carriers, military personnel, and aircraft turning the tide
in the Pacific Theater. From December, 1941, until the spring of 1942, Japanese forces conquered
British, Dutch, and U.S. possessions in East Asia and the Pacific Ocean (Watson). The Japanese
fast and powerful ships helped them extend their dominance. United Statessteps in when the
Japanese invaded French Indochina, present Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and issued an oil
embargo on the Japanese. This angered the Japanese, So they planned to take over the oil wells
in United States. They did this by a surprise attack over the Hawaiian naval base of Pearl Harbor
because 60% of the US navy fleet was stationed there. The United States declared war over Japan.

It crushed the naval dominance of the Japanese Navy. The United States Navy was now able to
produce more ships and aircrafts. The Japanese lost their four largest aircraft carriers,as well as 275
planes and about 3,000 military personnel (Watson). The United States, by contrast, lost only one
carrier (the Yorktown), one destroyer, 150 planes, and 307 personnel (Watson). Japanese morale
and their dominance was crushed by this battle.
There were many heroes fought in this battle. Chester W Nimitz was the commander of the United
States fleet. Japanese Pacific fleet commander of the battle was Chuichi Nagumo. Isoroku
Yamamoto planned and assembled the attack and also was the commander of the Imperial Japanese
Navy.
Battle of Midway was the turning point in the war. This destroyed most of the aircraft carriers
and many of their ships. This battle keeps them on the run. If Battle of Midway was a victory for
the Japanese, then the allies would lose the war and we would be under the control of Fascist
dictators and lose many of our birth

Dracula Compared To Modern Society
Why are people so obsessed with vampires today that they go crazy over any book, movie, or tv
show that has a vampire? In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the
empire expanding. Britain had conquered huge expanses of land from Africa, Asia, and North
America and used the land for military and economic power. The rise of the United States and
European powers threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this
was occurring a rise in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant
from the easternmost edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders.
A year after Dracula published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien
invasion novel The War of the World s. When comparing vampires adaptation to modern society vs.
victorian society one can see the difference between sex, culture, and tradition through Bram Stoker
s, Dracula. In the time period Dracula was written victorian women either had two choices, be a
wife and mother or be a virgin and pure if she was neither of these she was considered a whore
and had no consequence to society. In Dracula Lucy was seen as a whore, her physical beauty
captivated each of her suitors and displayed a comfort playfulness about her desirability. Why can
t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this trouble? (Bram Stoker

Differences Between New England And Southern Colonies
The three colonial regions varied in their societies and in their economies. New England didn t
have good farming land, but had an abundance in fishing. Middle Colonies had a little more luck

bunches of crops and had the most slaves. All three regions did farm and own slaves, but from
least amount of slaves to most it went New England, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies.
Overall, all the colonies economies and societies flourished, but each regions were similar and

  • 2. Yeast Glycolysis Lab Report I believe that one factor that contributes to the rate of glucose consumption and respiration in yeast is the glycemic index of the added sugar or sugar substitute. I have drawn these conclusions based on the data collected by my classmates and I in addition to my prior knowledge of glycolysis. During the testing process, some novel treatments were experimented with, including the replacement of sugar in the experiment with maple syrup, honey, and an artificial sweetener. Because these sugar replacements are different types of sweeteners, they have a difference in glycemic index. The glycemic index of a food is a number that represents the number of carbohydrates in a food and how these carbohydrates affects a person blood glucose level. A higher glycemic index means the food can be metabolized faster. Basically, glycemic index is a representation of how easily a cell can metabolize the sugar found in a food into glucose. Glucose can then, in turn, be converted to pyruvate through the process of glycolysis. Pyruvate is then metabolized into acetaldehyde, and this metabolization gives off a byproduct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a baseline, the sugar used in the original experiment was basic table sugar, composed mostly of sucrose. Sucrose has a glycemic index of 68. However, the sugar substitutes have different glycemic indexes. Maple syrup has a GI of 54, honey has a GI of 50, and the artificial sweetener is mostly comprised of dextrose, which has a GI of 100. As you can see in the graph, the trend lines show that honey had the lowest amount of collected CO2, then the maple syrup and sugar are fairly close together, and then that the artificial sweetener experiment produced much more CO2 than any of the others, and appears to be climbing at a more aggressive rate. This makes sense, because the artificial sweetener had the highest glycemic index of any of the sugar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Identifying With Rapunzel In Disney s Tangled I deeply identify with Rapunzel in Disney s Tangled. Rapunzel, similar to the beloved classic, grows up in a tower with no contact to the outside world. She longs for new sights and experiences, and fills her days with various hobbies to distract herself from wondering When will my life begin? . Her largest source of comfort comes from her sole companion, a chameleon named Pascal. The woman that raised her conditioned her to think that the outside world is evil, selfish, and unsafe. Growing up in a small town in northeastern Ohio with a population of approximately nine thousand people, I had a very limited scope of the world. Our township had tiny, dilapidated schools and people who could trace their family lineage back five generations as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lincoln Electric Essay The two most important issues that Lincoln Electric is faced with are as follows. First, the inability to meet customer demand because of the shortages in supply creates opportunities for competing firms to enter the industry. What resources and capabilities does Lincoln Electric have that can mitigate this threat of entry. Second, the emphasis put on the monetary incentive plan leaves the company vulnerable in economic hardships. How can Lincoln Electriccontinue to encourage competition and quality without a high emphasis on monetary incentives? Examining the arc weldingproduct industry structure will help identify the opportunities associated with that structure. Arc weldingis part of the emerging, mature, and international... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, their valuable and rare inventory control team maximizes efficiency and lowers cost by loading palettes completely full of product while the competition loads palettes only half full of product wasting valuable room. The threat of suppliers, threat of buyers, and threat of entry are the significant threats in the arc welding product industry. Suppliers in the arc welding product industry include all of the employees that make up a company. The suppliers can threaten performance, quality, and production cost. The temporary competitive advantage that Lincoln Electric uses to mitigate this threat is a valuable, (fairly) rare, (fairly) costly to imitate, organizationally competent employee compensation program. The program includes large bonuses, pays per piecework, and guarantees 75% employment forever. This program also exploits the opportunities associated with the cost advantages in the mature and international industry through economies of scale. For example, the learning curve illustration in figure 6.2 and equation 6.5 in chapter 6 of Barney shows that as the cumulative amount of time spent on a project increases (turnover is low), per unit cost decreases. Due to the rapid change in industry demand, the threat of buyers quickly becomes an issue. Without adequate supply, buyers are forced to move to new suppliers. This can lead to a loss in future business. Lincoln ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Jfk Space Exploration Space Exploration: Apollo missions By Kenneth Hanks FDSCI 101 41 fall 2015 10/30/2015 What was the motivation that led to the discovery? The Apollo program was conceived during the Eisenhower administration in 1960. Up until this time the US space program had only supported one astronaut in flight. The Apollo program would carry 3 astronauts. The motivation was to be able to orbit 3 instead of 2 or 1. At the beginning of the research and design into Apollo, the trips to the moon were not anticipated until the far future. The US was perceived to be behind the USSR in space exploration. President Kennedy changed all that. What questions were asked? President Kennedy on May 25th 1961 proposed a manned Moon landing in this special message ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Space historian James Hansen concludes that: Without NASA s adoption of this stubbornly held minority opinion in 1962, the United States may still have reached the Moon, but almost certainly it would not have been accomplished by the end of the 1960s, President Kennedy s target date. A hero is somebody who gives people strength to go on from life s difficulties. A hero is also Somebody who saves people s lives when they hit rock bottom. Coretta Scott King had three siblings and she had to help her parents by working in the farms (Rice, Bradley R. King, Coretta Scott). This is important because it might have affected the way she viewed how white people treated black people. When she went to school in the early days, it was affected by the system of segregation. She had to walk 6 miles a day to and from school and all the white people had to ride the bus. (Rice, Bradley R. King, Coretta Scott. ) She attended Lincoln High School and graduated as a valedictorian in 1945. She was enrolled at Antioch College in Yellow Springs Ohio. • 7. Memorial Hall Essay Memorial Hall When walking through Boston s renowned Harvard Yard, one may scope out the mixture of architecture throughout its landscape. From the traditional Memorial Hall influenced by Romanesque churches, to the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard Yard is like a salad bowl of architecture. Perhaps because I am a lover of Victorian style structures, or maybe because of its interior s beauty and richness, Memorial Hall intrigued my interest most of all. Memorial Hall, which was originally a civil war monument, is now a theater and student union for Harvard University. The 19th century architects Robert Ware and Henry Van Brunt designed this building to resemble the Victorian Gothic Romanesque churches of the time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This window also allows a colorful light inside the memorial of the building. The interior of Memorial Hall differs from the gothic structures that the building resembles from the outside. While gothic structures were composed mostly of stone, Memorial Hall is decorated with walnut. The vaulting, which traditionally would be made of stone, is made of wood. There is a repeated use of the rosette, trefoil, quatrefoil, and cross motifs that help connect the exterior with the interior of the building. These details are found in the wood carvings of Sanders Theater, the great transept doors, the sandstone frieze that surrounds the exterior, the columns and wrought iron gates, the buttress, the stained glass windows, and the chandeliers. Also there is ornamental ironwork that outlines the roof if Sanders Theater and crowns the four subsidiary towers. Another feature of Memorial Hall that captures the mood of its exterior is the layout of the remaining original furnishings throughout the building. The materials used to construct the interior and exterior of Memorial Hall create a defined space in which the building captivates. When I walked through Memorial Hall I became instantly drawn into the structure. The marble floors, the dark wood moldings, and the gold, maroon, and green d #233;cor are qualities ... Who am I? What am I doing? Where am I going? These are questions that should arise when speaking of identity, a sense of belonging, or communal direction. • 10. Essay on Right Wing Resurgence Right Wing Resurgence In the mist of a disgruntled working class, one Austrian born man rose to power, playing on their fears of immigrants, unemployment and globalization. By mixing social populism, xenophobia, German nationalism with personal charisma, he was able to make his political party one of the strongest in his nation. Many would believe that this would be a description of the infamous dictator Adolph Hitler. Rather, it is a description of Jorg Haider, recent governor of the Austrian state of Carinthia and former leader of the Austrian Freedom Party. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these parties have been able to obtain much political recognition in their countries. They also share many of the same characteristics, as well as tactics that have allowed them to become successful. First, both parties are lead by very charismatic leaders. The Swiss People s Party is lead by the industrialist Christoph Blocher, while the Freedom Party is lead by Jorg Haider. Both men are extremely charismatic and energetic. Secondly, these two parties carry much of the same policy, like incoherent economic policies, a rejection of European integration, and ugly attacks on immigrants. Oddly, both leaders also have similar views on WWII and the Holocaust. Christoph Blocher once praised a book that claimed that the Holocaust never took place, while Jorg Haider has publicly praised Hitler s employment practices, and called SS veterans patriots (UPI). Similar leaders is not the only thing that the Freedom Party and the Swiss People s Party have in common. Both parties gain power by playing on people s fear of losing what they have. For example, both parties claim that immigration is taking jobs away from citizens. Austria however has 4 percent unemployment, which is less than half of the European Average. Despite an economic downturn, Switzerland continues to be one of the world s wealthiest nations. (UPI) While Austria and Switzerland currently have the strongest radical ... The mindset of sellers, realtors and mortgage brokers before the bubble burst was something that was very obvious to me as a lack of care for the long term homeowners and their financial welfare. While the banks like Countrywide Home Loans and Bear Stearns (JPMorgan Chase Bank) were making billions of dollars on mortgages, they were ridiculous in thinking that this would not come back on them tenfold. How can you purchase a loan and approve it through underwriting without first verifying the documents were accurate? How could I get a home loan when I was 21 and had a credit score of 1? Well, this definitely happened. I had a cosigner, of course, but still, the qualifying standards back in 2005 were relaxed to a fault. I liked to think that I was responsible enough to have this investment in a property to call my own, but we bought at the height of market in Orlando, and only gained in equity for about 6 months. In 2007, our house was worth $40,000.00 less than what we purchased it for. My home in Orlando was a $1,300.00 monthly mortgagethat I thought I could afford with help from roommates, but quickly found this to be too daunting. • 13. Divine Command Theory And Natural Law Theory Religion has always been a central part of human history, tracing back to the earliest known records in human existence. From the ancient Egyptians to the Mayans, from the Celts to the Greeks and Romans, from Hinduism to Judaism to Catholicism, religion has always been the center of human culture. Recent studies have suggested that religionwas centered on advanced alien races whose technology was misunderstood. However, one thing is undeniable, these age old systems of belief and worship of a higher being or deity were, in a sense, their own moral systems, two of which are Divine Command Theory and Natural Law Theory. These two systems, among others, once guided and advised ancient humans in moral judgements. Divine Command Theory is a proposed relationship between moral correctness and the higher deity s commands, henceforth the deity will be called god. This situation is elaborated upon in a dialogue between Socrates and Euthyphro, in where Socrates asks Euthyphro what it means to be pious or to be morally right. After failed attempts to answer this, Socrates proposes two options to this question that is known as the Euthyphro Dilemma, Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious? Or is it pious because it is loved by the gods? (text). In other words, is the pious thing inherently pious (a.k.a morally right) and therefore is loved by the gods, or is being loved by the gods what causes something to be morally right. In effect, it asks whether moral rightness was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Methods for Testing Water Quality This report shows in details different methods that may be conducted in order to test the quality of the water. First of all, the water quality is defined by its characteristics. They may be biological, chemical, and physical. The water quality standards differ due to several environmental impacts. Physically, the first tested impact is temperature. It has a high influence on the quality since it may cause different type of pollution and will also have a high influence on biological activities. When the temperature of water will become very far from its acceptable range, there will have a direct negative impact on species and living organisms. The water temperature is inversely proportional to the dissolved oxygen level. The second factor that affects the water quality is the potential of hydrogen pH . Many organisms are affected by their medians pH. If the pH gets outside of its acceptable range, plants and animals die. It is divided into three categories: acidic ( 7), neutral (= 7), basic ( 7). When the median is acidic, it causes corrosion for the pipes and aesthetic problems. When the median is alkaline, the water will become bitter. Solids are divided into two categories: suspended and dissolved. They are present in lakes and streams. Suspended solids are particles that will be retained by filtering. It includes silts and sediments. Aquatic life is negatively affected when the level of TDS is high. They are mostly found in acidic rainfall like H+ and hard water like ... Soldiers are on MySpace; officers are on Facebook. The author illustrated the Facebook users received college training while MySpace users were poor and less educated. Even those soldiers profiles revealed their violent natural characters. Therefore, the military ban of MySpace would considered as a class division in military. The author guessed that MySpace users may spend too much time on line and the officers want them to pay more attention and responsibilities on their duties. It just an educated guess because nobody know whether this class division would have any conflict of their respective interest. I think this was one of the reasons of this military ban. As we have learned, Enterprise Risk Management has three primary principles, which are: ensure organizational survival, provide social responsibility, and increase the organization s value, while engaging employees in performance and maintaining their well being (Bethel, 2016). In its simplest terms, legal risk equates to financial loss (Smith, 2008). In researching for this assignment, I read several articles relating to the subject matter and remarkably, each article addressed the topic in very similar ways. Fundamentally, the articles established a framework for identifying and addressing issues that could rise to the level of risk. Similarly, the reading assignment, lecture, and articles all stated that while risk cannot be avoided it can be subdued or minimized if dealt with correctly and timely. Further, the lecture and articles stated some risk is good for business operations, but organizations are charged with determining whether the risk is worthy of the investment. What are the challenges for today s Human Resources professionals? Unfortunately, there is a shortage of critical skills talent for some key roles within many organizations (Jacobs, 2013). Stryker continually states that people are bound to impulses they hate. Having demonstrated how the use of technology can influence young generations, Stryker goes on to say that punishing those who make bad and or racist remarks only breeks further hatred. Stryker uses a hypothetical example to support his claim and explain why. He continues to go further and give real world examples of how a New York City EMT was fired because of his racist tweets on his online profile (Stryker 588). The example he provides is from Sandy Hook and how in the beginning of a major event reporters are notoriously bad at getting the facts straight (Stryker 589). One of the objectives of dissemination should be to improve the practice. Dissemination of evidenced based practice findings in nursing is very critical in knowledge synthesis, translation, and translation. • 34. What Is A Lie Essay The lie. I mean the lie is the first sin we commit. As children, we often learn always to tell the truth. However, there is an opportunity in life when we are taking the first steps toward a lie: to avoid a punishment, to achieve a goal, to adapt to a situation, or to enhance our status. It is for this reason that the lies are so close to us. There are different levels of lies, and none of them is okay, not even the white little lie. A white lie is a lie that offers consolation and a false belief of security. The best cover up of the lie is the absence of truth. The absence of truth is a lie that is harder to see through but to defraud, and omission of information as a tool to fool us from the truth is a lie straight through. One of the main features of people who defraud information or omit the truth is that they are constantly on the defensive. The Impact Of Internet Legislation On The Internet The goal of the legislation was to improve the access of the internet and to allow the consumers to receive equal access to all internet sites no matter what provider they are using. This allows people to select the applications or sites they wish to get their information, giving them a freedom not many have. As shown before these companies have been fined and reprimanded for breaking the law, however this brings forth a probe to see if this policy been successful in creating an equal internet for the consumer. According to CBS NL it states that the dutch legislation raised the over population of 84% avidly use the internet in 2012 versus the 78% of people in 2005. The statistics presented by the Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) show that as the internet evolved people became more dependent on the internet leading to an expansion of people using the internet (CBS 2012). Additionally, the Netherlands holds the highest percentage of internet users than in most developed countries in Europe (CBS). A Brief Note On Sand And Art Play Providing both a sand area and an art area as play centers in a children s hospital playroom is essential for providing a variety of therapeutic, sensory, child directed, and developmentally appropriate play activities. Sand and art play can help children of various ages to express themselves, work on their fine motor skills, unleash their creativity, and just be kids while in the unfamiliar and potentially frightening hospital environment (CITE 1). There is evidence that helps to support the functions and needs for a sand area and an art area in a children s hospital playroom. There is a wide range of modalities in which sand play can be used with children. For example, children are able to make shapes, express themselves, and much more through sand play. Given these various modalities, sand play has many strengths and can be considered a therapeutic medium for play (CITE 4). According to Louise Craig, when children are engaged in sand play they are simultaneously using both hands, which means that children are using both lobes of the brain, which, in turn, benefits the total involvement of the person in their play (CITE 4). Sand play has been argued to be an easy medium to therapeutic play, as it requires no skills or talent and it provides children with control over an environment. There is evidence that both extroverted and introverted children can benefit from the use of sand play. Sand play is considered a sensory play activity. Sensory play activities allow ... Deborah at a young age left school in the sixth grade to go help in the field but then she ended up going to school and barely finished high school.
