Extremely Loud And Extremely Close Analysis
Fear, it can be seen by many as an excuse to not succeed in life and has the ability to corrupt if it
is not overcome. Within the novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
the protagonist, lives in fear after the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers. His fears stop him from
completing his goals to find a lock to the key that he believes his father has left behind for him. In
order to find the lock, Oskar must conquer his fears. After a tragic event, one must conquer fearand
reach the desired goal. On September 11, 2001, Thomas Schell was involved in the 9/11 attacks. A
terrorist attack against the Americans that sent four planes crashing through the world trade centre
killing thousands of people who worked there.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the tragic event that killed his father has made Oskar afraid of everything that has to
do with 9/11: Even after a year, I still had an extremely difficult time doing certain things, like
taking showers, for some reason, and getting into elevators, obviously. There was a lot of stuff
that made me panicky, like suspension bridges, germs, airplanes, fireworks, [...] scaffolding,
sewers and subway grates, bags without owners, shoes, people with mustaches, smoke, knots
and tall buildings. A lot of the time I d get the feeling like I was in the middle of a huge black
ocean, or in deep space, but not in the fascinating way. It s just that everything was incredibly far
away from me (Foer 36). The only thing that is holding Oskar back from finding the lock is his
fear: It took me three hours and forty one minutes to walk to Aaron Black because public
transportation makes me panicky (Foer 87).Oskar s going to great lengths to avoid facing his
fears and he is allowing the fears he has about dying the same way that his father did to control
his life. By allowing these fears to control his life Oskar is having a hard time finding the lock for
the key and will therefore not be able to complete the goal that he has in

Ethical Virtue Is A State Of The Soul
The definition of ethical virtue is one of the difficult themes that are often discussed by many
philosophers. In Nicomachean Ethicsв…Ў.6, Aristotle defines ethical virtue as (a) a state that
decides,(b) in a mean, (c) the mean relative to us, (d) which is defined by reference to reason, (e)
i.e. to the reasonby reference to which the intelligent person would define it. (NEв…Ў.6) But, this
definitionitself is complex. Then, in this paper, I will explain what he means by this and evaluate
this definition. First, Aristotleclaims virtue should be a state that makes a human good and makes
him function well. In Nicomachean Ethicsв…Ў.5, he concluded that ethical virtue is a state of the
soul. On the basis of this conclusion, he starts to discuss what kind of state is ethical virtue.
Then, as a premise, he defines every virtue should make its possessors be in a good state and
perform their functions well. The virtue of a horse, for example, makes the horse excellent
because it is good at galloping, at running, and at carrying its rider. In the case of human being,
therefore, the virtue is the state that makes a human being good and perform his or her function
well. Next, he claims mean states should be ethical virtue. A mean is a middle or intermediate
between excess and deficiency. He claims those extreme states are vices because they make human
being perform worse. Bravery, for example, is a virtue that makes people deal with a difficult
situation with confidence. If, however,

Recombination Frequency In Sordaria
This study examined the effects of X ray radiation on recombination frequency in Sordaria
fimicola, a model organism. A Laboratory Manual for Biology 110 Biology: Basic Concepts and
Biodiversity states that S. fimicola:
...offers many advantages, including a substantial body of research into aspects of its life cycle
and genetics, a rapid life cycle allowing studies to be conducted in a timely manner, ease of
isolating strains from the wild and grown them in the laboratory, and the fact that it produces
fruiting bodies (perithecia) containing narrow, elongate asci with eight spores that are easily
viewable under the microscope, and whose order reflects events that occur during meiosis (Burpee,

Treatment one consisted of Wild Type and Tan S. fimicola isolates that were both treated with X
ray radiation. The second treatment was Wild Type treated with X ray radiation and Tan without
radiation. Finally, the third treatment consisted of Tan isolates treated with X ray radiation and
Wild Type isolates without. A control plate was also tested to use as a comparison (Burpee et al.,
2015). For control plates and all three of the treatments, petri dishes were prepared to cross the
isolates, producing perithecia. First, two 0.5 cm squares of fungal hyphae containing agar were cut
from a cultured petri dish. Wild Type and Tan isolates were used for the control; X ray samples
corresponding to the correct treatment were used for the experimental plates. The agar squares
were then placed with the hyphae side facing the agar on the quadrant labeled for the corresponding
isolate. These steps were then repeated for the remaining strains/ culture plates (Burpee et al.,
2015). The samples were then left to incubate for two weeks until the next step in the experiment the

Analysis Of James Baldwin s The Blues
Sonny s Blues, a short story by famed African American author James Baldwin, is the story of
two bothers. Other famous stories of two brothers include both The Prodigal Son parable and the
story of Cain and Abel, both from which Baldwin clearly draws inspiration from. Baldwin grew
up with many religious teachings, as his adoptive father, David Baldwin, was a preacher. Though
the relationship between father and son was not enviable, Baldwin still grew up active in his
religion (James Baldwin Biography). Baldwin, despite growing up in the Baptist church with a
preacher for a father began to convert to Pentecostalism began in his early teenage years when he
accompanied friends to a Pentecostal church, where, at the age of fourteen, he became street
preacher (James Baldwin Biography). Of those years as a preacher, Baldwin recalled, Those three
years in the pulpit I didn t realize it then that is what turned me into a writer, really, dealing with all
that anguish and that despair and that beauty. Many of his works prominently feature religion, and
mimic the bible in language and tone (James Baldwin About the Author). In Sonny s Blues, and
many other of Baldwin s writings, the figure of the musician represents a move towards an anti
institutional spirituality and suggests the ways in which Baldwin was becoming, not less secular,
but move aware of the need to distinguish between the structured religion of the church and the
authenticity of a self spirituality, a

The Importance Of The Relevance Of The Data
The importance of the relevance of the data has been identified since the very early work in context
aware ubiquitous systems. Despite of its importance few works have been carried out to quantify
the QoC and ensure the quality of the information on which the decisions and actions of
contextaware systems are based. Moreover, many decision support techniques are insufficient to
address the runtime uncertainty in the context information as they do not assess the QoC in an end
to end fashion. We formulate the related work into two parts: 1) QoC attributes and modeling
aspects
2) Runtime decision support addressing uncertainty
A. QoC attributes and modeling aspects
QoC attributes and their modeling comes into play to capture the uncertainties in context data. A
well designed model is a key assessor to the quality of the context. Krause and Hochstatter [5]
discussed the challenges in modeling the
QoC and its usage. Several QoC models emerged but most of the QoC models were not properly
quantified according to the
QoC requirements. Castro et al. [6] investigated the accuracy of a location sensing service was
compromised. Ranganathan et al. [7] used predicate and probabilistic logic to assign confidence
values from 0 to 1 for every type of context. Dey et al. [1] suggested that mediation with the user can
help to reduce the uncertainty. QoC is modeled as meta data where additional information about the
quality of the context source is utilized to capture the uncertainty. Krause and

Italian Theatre In The 18th Century
18th Century Italian Opera in London Opera is a massive genre of theater that has had many
major effects on art. The 18th century especially is a thriving time for opera. According to The
Victoria and Albert Museum, Opera houses were popping up all around Europe. The audiences
were lively and nobility commissioned many new works. Italian opera, at this time was spreading
from Italyto other countries such as England. With the help of my group, we will be exploring
the importance of who brought Italian opera to London, how did London change opera, and what
effect did it have on society? In addition, I will be looking deeply into the effect of opera houses in
this period of growth. Overall the emergence of opera in England is commonly attributed... Show

Generally, these buildings were made specifically for operas, meaning they, ideally, would have
some of the most efficient sound acoustics of the time! This would help make the show
enjoyable for all seats in the house. According to The Royal Opera House s history webpage,
Handel had close links with this almost 300 year old opera house until his death in 1759. The
Royal Opera House was a popular opera house at the time that even rivaled The Royal Drury
Lane. In addition to an acoustic appropriate place to perform, opera houses were also important
because of then many riots that happened when seating prices changed. Below is an examples of
seat price changes that caused riots (See Fig. 2) by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
There are occasional reports of riots among the cheap seats (the footmanВґs gallery ). Traditionally
people could come for half price toward the end of the evening, to see the short after pieces that
followed the main play. In 1763, the management announced on the playbills that only full price
tickets would be available. The response was an organized riot which destroyed the interior of the
theatre and forced the reinstitution of the half price

Grappling With Grief By The Survivor Essay
Grappling with Grief Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death, (Brainyquote.com,
2016). Life in this day and age may often seem unkind, society is inherently violent, as
demonstrated in popular films and television series. Many individuals seek to obtain professions
that require the employee to regularly stake their own livelihood and safety on the line.
Accompanied by the risk necessary to earn nominal wages, exists the probability that friends and
co workers, with whom one may have developed a personal closeness and affection, will from
time to time be injured and killed in the line of duty. With added longevity in that career, death
comes part and parcel. Chalking it up to being the nature of the beast, may be a successful
defensive posture for a period of time. For many people, however, the day will inevitably come
when reflection and introspection become more frequent, guilt sets in for having lived while
many others perished. The fairness of life being called into question by the survivor, the long
term psychological effects become insurmountable (Goodtherapy.org, 2016). The bereavement
just described is a condition known as survivor s guilt, and is just one of many symptoms that
can be expected when grappling with loss of life complexities. Conceptually, death is often
regarded as somewhat of a forbidden topic; this attitude may lend itself to limited awareness of
grieving processes that can cripple the bereaved. Regardless of career choice, death is

She concluded that there is a preparation stage that the body goes through prior to deep rest.
During that preparation stage, the body uses external or environmental clues, light and colours,
to synchronize our circadian biological clock to the cycle of the sun s light (Smith 2013).
Moreover, according to Hauck, a study was conducted with the assistant of Travelodge hotels
and they concluded that participants that slept in blue rooms received the best sleep during their
stay. Similarly, a light blue is the colour users will be exposed to prior to rest. This is also
relevant in the other modes with relevant colours such as light green for meditation (Wright
2008/2017) and so on and so forth. Furthermore, we must take in to consideration the limitations
of the application s design. People s perception and the effectiveness of the design are affected
by the user s past experiences, the context and their goals (Johnson 2014). If the user was used to
sleeping in an orange room as a child than perhaps the colour orange would be more effective in
comforting them for sleep in contrast with the pale blue default colour. To counter this on the
relaxation screens the user has a control bar that allows them to adjust the hue of the background.
However, the user may not recognize this as an important factor in their sleep or they may not be
able to identify the best colour for their own personal sleep. In the future I believe

The Major Environmental Cause And Environmental Effects Of...
Approximately 150,000 babies born in the United States every year are affected by birth defects, at
least 25 percent of those birth defects are environmentally caused (Birth Defects Statistics). Not
only do birth defects affect thousands of babies, other developmental problems such as low birth
weight and preterm labor also have an effect on a staggering number of children. Some
developmental problems and birth defects are unavoidable, but environmentally caused issues can
and should be prevented. Factors that are considered to be environmental include smoking tobacco,
drinking alcohol, using illegal drugs, taking prescription medications, having infectious diseases or
sexually transmitted diseases, and having poor nutrition. Environmental factors can cause birth
defects and developmental complications, but due to the limited amount of treatments, making
appropriate nutrition and lifestyle decisions during pregnancycan prevent these detrimental issues.
Birth defects and developmental complications can be caused by non environmental factors, or
environmental factors. Genetics and heredity are known causes of birth defects that are not
environmental factors. Birth defects such as Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic
Fibrosis, Sickle Cell Anemia are examples of genetics and heredity issues, which are unavoidable
and can not be prevented. However, environmental factors including: alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs,

Jurassic Park Ethical Issues
The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series was released the summer of 2015, 22 years after the first
movie, Jurassic Park, was released. Movie goers had long awaited a reprisal of the series and
flocked to the theaters. As of the end of the June, the newest movie in the franchise had already
grossed nearly $507 million in North America alone and had a worldwide total of well over a
billion dollars.
The overall concept of the movie is a theme park where dinosaurs come to life. Of course,
everything possible goes wrong, as it will when you mess with mother nature. If you haven t yet

Lymphoedema
Infections like cellulitis can cause Lymphoedema which can damage the tissue around the
lymphatic system causing it to become scarred. Inflammation can permanently damage the
lymphatic system.
As a result of the lymphatic system not working properly of a diseased individual, pathogens may
not be filtered out properly which therefore can lead to infections. As a result an immune response
may need to be carried out by the individual s immune system to destroy the pathogens. Source 6
How we mount an immune response when exposed to a pathogen:
There are two type of immune response that are carried out in the body that helps to cure the
infection. These are called the cellular immune response and the humoral immune response.
In a cellular immune response the following stages occur:

A macrophage destroys a pathogen by phagocytosis which displays the pathogen s antigen on its
surface. The cell becomes an antigen presenting cell (APC).
2)The APC interacts with a specific helper T cell. Once it has been combined it releases a
substance called interleukin 1. This is a cytokine and this cytokine is a chemical that is involved in
cell signalling.
3)The interleukin 1 stimulates the release of another substance called interleukin 2 which then
stimulates the growth and development of killer cells which are antigen specific T killer cells
(cytotoxic cells).
4)The killer T cells detect the antigen located on the surface of the infected cells which then
releases perforin that attaches to the infected cells. This makes pores within the infected cell and
can let ions and water to diffuse inside the cell which therefore causes cell lysis.
5)As the pathogen had already entered the body, it results in T memory cells being produced which
means that if the pathogen enters again then the body can attack it quicker.
In a humoral immune response the following stages

Romeo And Juliet Tragic Love Character Analysis
Superficial Romance: The Tragic Love Story of Romeo and Juliet During the Elizabethan era,
the sole job of people was to marry and have children to carry on the lineage of one s family.
Many individuals married into families of higher status to raise their own status, and were also
married for their beauty, which was thought to continue through their descendants. The love that
was felt at the time was, in most cases, based on these outer attributes rather than internal ones
such as personality. The practice of loving for appearances is clearly expressed in the drama,
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, where two opposing families,
the Capulets and the Montagues, coexist in the town of Verona. Romeo, from the house of the
Montagues, is infatuated with Rosaline for her beauty, but his feelings for her immediately
disappear when Romeo sees the far more beautiful Juliet, daughter of the Capulets. When they
meet, Romeo s feelings are requited by Juliet, who then no longer wants to accept the arranged
marriage with her suitor, Paris. The romantic love among Romeo, Rosaline, Juliet, and Paris, as
well as the expectations Juliet s family has for her love is highly superficial, revealing that these
characters value their loved ones for their external appearances, rather than who they are on the
inside. Romeo s love for Juliet is unreliable and overexaggerated. In a short summary of recent
events, the Chorus states that now old desire doth in his

Conducting An Interrogation
In general, the civilian population does not know or recognize the difference between an interview
and an interrogation. Both forms of interacting with a person seems the same to an untrained
individual. Whichever method used requires planning. An interrogation requires more that
planning, it requires approval. The end goal for the interviewer or interrogate is to secure a
confession (Swanson, et at., Pg. 124, 2011).
The purpose in conducting an interview is to gather information that may assist, in obtain valuable
facts; eliminating the innocent; identify the guilty; and obtain a confession for what happened in an
incident (Swanson, et at. Pg. 124,2011). An interview is a conversation with a certain goal in mind,

As more and more state legislations provide educational opportunities for students through virtual

we are no longer boxed in by our circumstances, allowing for global connections to surpass

This imagery helps readers imagine dark, gross, and scary events. The author, Faiz Ahmed Faiz,
wrote a poem called Three Quatrains, which gives an example, through his third paragraph, of
dark imagery that can be gross, I dip my fingers into my heart s blood, (Faiz 550). By imagining
the hearts blood, one can infer that the person is dying and this shows how this imagery is dark.
Dark imagery also expressed the pain through words, as the author has used pain from the tree
that gives a scary and dark image, This night is the tree of pain, (Faiz 552). Both of the words
night and pain is a start to a horror movie, but it could scare the reader, when they imagine the
same dark place. Dark imagery is also used as a confliction to confuse the readers. In the poem, Be
Near Me, the author contradicts the writing, which may confuse the audience, My tormentor, my
love... darkness comes With the balm of musk in its hands, (Faiz). This confusion between torment
and love is conflicting to be a dark image, therefore, one s mind might ultimately imagine hate.
Imagery is a strong part of Indian and Pakistan literature to ensure the audience is engaged and

who don t understand how to play the system . Most children will need a tutor in order to pass

true to the conservative way of thinking. Some may argue that this schooling system was in fact

in order to create a growing disparity between the upper class and a working class (Gramsci, 1971),
dividing the UK into a polarising social and economic division. As a child in primary school in a
working class area, where the students were mainly of an ethnic minority, the eleven plus was
unheard of. This is evidence that there is a particular type of school and demographic and parent as
well as teachers that expect their children to go to grammar school. As for me, to my parents it was
unheard of and to my teachers there was effectively no point of introducing the idea, as we were

Analysis Of Swifty s Kid The Wall
1.) Being in a new neighborhood and a new school puts a kid in a difficult situation, and Rafe
Khatchadorian is no exception. When Swifty s Diner burns down it s bye bye Hills Village and
hello big city. One of the main disappointments Rafe faces is the fact that he will not be able to
attend the art school in which he had been accepted Airbrook. He fears that he will not make any
new friends, and that school will be a complete and utter disaster (much like his previous school
year at Hills Village Middle School). Things are looking up when he gets accepted to another art
school in the city, even better than Airbrook Cathedral School of the Arts. But it s not all he

the relationship between a university and a student athlete in the terms of the forms of conflicts and

Lastly, in order to ensure that there is no conflict in terms of unfair pay between student athletes

Who was Henrietta Lacks? What if I told you, had she not lived, your life would be very
different today? Her name was Henrietta, she was a poor, uneducated, African American woman,

The Flea John Donne Meaning
The Flea, by John Donne, is a well known poem which even now has a bold meaning. Overall in
this poem the speaker is attempting to take the virginity of a woman he is with by using the flea
around them as a way to convince her. In the first stanza the flea has come and bit him and then
bit the woman. He says that their blood is already intertwined in lines three and four it sucked
me first, and now sucks thee,/ and in this flea our two bloods, mingled be. He goes on to say that
she should not deny him and if it not a sin for their blood to mix in the body of the flea, then it
should not be wrong for them to fornicate before marriage, as shown in lines five and six, Thou
know st that this cannot be said/ A sin, nor loss of maidenhead. In stanza two the woman that the
speaker is attempting to court using the flea as an excuse, attempts to kill the flea, yet the speaker
says not to because it contains both their blood and in a sense a part of them that was brought
together, representing their marriage , this is shown in lines twelve and thirteen this flea is you and

such as in line eight where it says And pampered swells with one blood made of two. Moving
forward, in line four the speaker makes a pun to help his case by saying And in this flea our two

sense, made a child. Also there is an extended metaphor throughout the poem that their blood is life
within this flea, and this gives more justification for the

Personal Growth Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Personal Growth in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath uses this quote in The Bell Jar to
show the main character Esther Greenwood struggles. The quote states as followed, There is
something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other,
especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an
express caboose heading in the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller,
only you feel it s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away
from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). Plath uses this
quote to encapsulate the true feelings of the main character and her struggles with social
conformity. It is obvious that Esther Greenwood is directly inspired by Plath herself. The many
similarities include their pseudonyms, the absence of a father, their young age, and their high level
of intelligence. The only major difference is Esther s suicideattempt was fortunately unsuccessful
while Sylvia Plath s was unfortunately successful. Plath committed suicide at the age of thirty due
to her major struggles of conforming to society. Sylvia Plath In The Bell Jar, the author, Sylvia
Plath, uses metaphors, symbolism, and tone to draw attention to the main characters journey
through mental illness and her struggle to relate to the feminist expectations of society.

Illusions of Success For years now, many students have thought How do I grow up too be
successful? but the truth here is that the people asking this, don t know what success really means
to them. Accomplishment can be defined in a variety of ways, such as the amount of money a
person makes, how happy an individual is by themselves, or even achieving in the simple things in
life. You can, however, gain the characteristics needed to be successful in the future, for example,
patience, determination, and a straight mindset. Accidental effects can also come into play, for
instance dumb luck that can happen to anybody and the wealth gap between the person or the
school they attend. These are just three of the most important traits a scholar must have in order to
get somewhere in their future of education and in life down the path they may take.

Athletes Get Paid Too Much Essay
Do you have any idea how huge the amount of money athletes make than people who can save
others lives? It could be, at the least, $50 million! Tom Brady who makes about $36 million a
year while doctors only make $195,000 a year! I have realized that athletes make a great amount
of money. Most people will disagree. People say that Tom Brady is their hero, but what has he
done for them? I feel athletes get paid a little more than a small amount too much for simple
reasons they are, they get paid more than people who saves lives, they do not give anything back,
and they use their money on useless gadgets. Some athletes spend their money on useless items
such as cars and jets, while others spend their money on helping people. One example is... Show

One example is that the country s 55,410 veterinarians made an average $91,250 per year as of
May 2011, according to the BLS. This shows one part of the unfairness with athletes being paid
better than, in this case, people who save animals that we love and show affection for. Another
example I have is a statistic done by experts, over 90 percent of the nation s 304,080 firefighters
worked for local government, including municipal and county fire departments, where salaries
averaged $48,450 per year, as of 2011. This shows of some more importance because it shows
that these men and women that go into burning buildings and rescue children before they die in
front of their horrified parents don t make even в…“ of what athletes who play games, show off
their goods , and shoot hoops are more valued than children who these men and women save.
Lastly, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary for a
teacher is approximately $55,000 per year. I am sort of surprised that these men and women
who wake up early in the morning to come to a school so they can provide children learning
skills and knowledge, don t get paid even в…“ as much as an athlete who just is going to spend it
all anyway on stuff they do not need. These are only some examples most of the others who save
others. Ever ask yourself why? Why these people don t make much when they save

Abstract
In this article an in depth overview is presented on Computer aided diagnostic (CAD) system s
usage for liver cancer. Besides, in a broader sense highlighting the technical aspects developed for
medical ultrasound images is also discussed. CAD system is a process that provides adequate
information that helps to analyze the Ultrasound images and helps to accurately detecting different
types of liver cancer. However, the system performance is still not significantly improved. In this
paper, firstly, we categorize the CAD system according to the four primary stages including data
preprocessing, lesion segmentation, feature extraction, selection, and Classifier. In each stage, we
review specific methods that are commonly used in most of the algorithms proposed for
computerized tissue characterization and discuss their advantages and drawbacks. Then, recent
proposed algorithms is presented in summarize form that have shown clinical value or specific
possibility to the computerized analysis of setback for ultrasound liver images. These techniques or
their combinations are the ones that are mostly used in the past few decades by the majority of
work published in the Computer aided diagnosis domain.

A Literary Analysis Of Disney s Aladdin
Literary Analysis of Aladdin Disney s Aladdin is a film that attempts to stereotype and westernize

Islamaphobia. [Aladdindepicts...] the Arab world as backwards and irrational, the films distorted

In the original story, found in The Arabian Nights , Aladdin has no skills and lives with his
mother as his father died very early on due to his grieving over Aladdin s idleness. In this story
the vizier is not the magician who persuades Aladdin into pursuing the lamp, but an African
magician who poses as his uncle. There are two genies in the original tale, one from a lamp and
one from a ring, compared to the one that is in Disney s Aladdin. Aladdin ends up killing the

Disney s Aladdin is similar to the original story, it is missing the traits of a kind, caring mother and
the willingness of the princess to wed who her father wanted her to marry. These are fundamental

Biography of Andy Whorl
Andy Whorl Andy Whorl was a popular American print artist in the 1960. He helped create the
style of art known as Pop Art. Pop Art showed what was popular in American culture; products,
celebrities, etc. Andy Whorl s career started out as a commercial artist. Some of his fellow artists
admired him and his work, while other did not consider him a true artist. He displayed some of
his work in museums and became famous. A friend of Andy told him to make art based on
everyday things, so Andy made his famous picture of the multiple Campbell s soup cans. Whorl
used mass production to make some of his artwork like the Ten Lizes featuring Elizabeth Taylor.
His mass production method involved silk screening. Before he could make the silk screen
products, he had to have the images enlarged several times. The method of silk screening and
mass production allowed Andy Whorl to have a team create his work instead of himself slaving
away on his work. His team worked out of his studio in New York City. His studio, which he
called The Factory , had three locations throughout New York City. Andy Whorl used
consumerism in his art. He made prints of pictures of famous people like Marilyn Monroe and
Elizabeth Taylor. Some of his artwork has sublime tones of death. For instance his obsession with
Elizabeth Taylor started when her husband died. He also started his artwork of Marilyn Monroe

Contribution Margin and Breakeven Analysis Simulation
IntroductionToday s business leaders are under enormous pressure to grow revenues, increase
profits and expand the value of the business. Rather than focus on profit improvement, owners and
managers should focus on improving underlying business activities and processes such as sales,
production and distribution. In order to determine whether a business decision will improve
profitability, you first must understand how costsare defined, as well as the relationship between cost

When looking at break evens it is also helpful to look at fixed and variable costs. Fixed overhead
is steady and can be factored in quite accurately. Variable costs are not as simple to calculate but
in many industries variable costs follow certain percentages or ratios so they are easier to
project. According to Tim Berry, the Break even Analysis lets a manager determine what needs
to be sold, monthly or annually, to cover the costs of doing business the actual break even point.
The Break even Analysis depends on three key assumptions:1.Average per unit sales price (per
unit revenue: This is the price that you receive per unit of sales2.Average per unit cost: This is the
incremental cost, or variable cost, of each unit of sales. If you buy goods for resale, this is what
you paid, on average, for the goods you sell. If you sell a service, this is what it costs you, per
dollar of revenue or unit of service delivered, to deliver that service.
3.Monthly fixed costs: Technically, a break even analysis defines fixed costs as costs that would
continue even if the company went broke. Instead, always use the regular running fixed costs,
including payroll and normal expenses (total monthly Operating Expenses). This will give the
company a better insight on financial realities (Berry 2004.)Exhibit A, below, shows a 12 month
income statement for three levels of fixed costs: $50,000, $75,000, and $100,000. Variable costs
are constant at 40% of net sales:Fixed costs

Future of Green Mountain Coffee

transition into the growth stage, GMCR has promoted its products primarily by expanding into new
retail stores such as Walmart, Target, Macy s, and Bed Bath Beyond; holding massive sampling
events; and expanding its television advertising to include QVC, ABC, CBS, NBC, and the Food
Network (GMCR, Annual Report, 2009). This intensive distribution will provide GMCR with the
ability to reach new segments while supplying the huge demand accompanying the growth stage.
The past,

  • 2. Extremely Loud And Extremely Close Analysis Fear, it can be seen by many as an excuse to not succeed in life and has the ability to corrupt if it is not overcome. Within the novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer the protagonist, lives in fear after the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers. His fears stop him from completing his goals to find a lock to the key that he believes his father has left behind for him. In order to find the lock, Oskar must conquer his fears. After a tragic event, one must conquer fearand reach the desired goal. On September 11, 2001, Thomas Schell was involved in the 9/11 attacks. There was a lot of stuff that made me panicky, like suspension bridges, germs, airplanes, fireworks, [...] scaffolding, sewers and subway grates, bags without owners, shoes, people with mustaches, smoke, knots and tall buildings. A lot of the time I d get the feeling like I was in the middle of a huge black ocean, or in deep space, but not in the fascinating way. It s just that everything was incredibly far away from me (Foer 36). The only thing that is holding Oskar back from finding the lock is his fear: It took me three hours and forty one minutes to walk to Aaron Black because public transportation makes me panicky (Foer 87).Oskar s going to great lengths to avoid facing his fears and he is allowing the fears he has about dying the same way that his father did to control his life. • 3. Ethical Virtue Is A State Of The Soul The definition of ethical virtue is one of the difficult themes that are often discussed by many philosophers. In Nicomachean Ethicsв…Ў.6, Aristotle defines ethical virtue as (a) a state that decides,(b) in a mean, (c) the mean relative to us, (d) which is defined by reference to reason, (e) i.e. to the reasonby reference to which the intelligent person would define it. (NEв…Ў.6) But, this definitionitself is complex. Then, in this paper, I will explain what he means by this and evaluate this definition. First, Aristotleclaims virtue should be a state that makes a human good and makes him function well. In Nicomachean Ethicsв…Ў.5, he concluded that ethical virtue is a state of the soul. On the basis of this conclusion, he starts to discuss what kind of state is ethical virtue. Then, as a premise, he defines every virtue should make its possessors be in a good state and perform their functions well. The virtue of a horse, for example, makes the horse excellent because it is good at galloping, at running, and at carrying its rider. In the case of human being, therefore, the virtue is the state that makes a human being good and perform his or her function well. Next, he claims mean states should be ethical virtue. A mean is a middle or intermediate between excess and deficiency. He claims those extreme states are vices because they make human being perform worse. Bravery, for example, is a virtue that makes people deal with a difficult situation with confidence. If, however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of James Baldwin s The Blues Sonny s Blues, a short story by famed African American author James Baldwin, is the story of two bothers. Other famous stories of two brothers include both The Prodigal Son parable and the story of Cain and Abel, both from which Baldwin clearly draws inspiration from. Baldwin grew up with many religious teachings, as his adoptive father, David Baldwin, was a preacher. Though the relationship between father and son was not enviable, Baldwin still grew up active in his religion (James Baldwin Biography). Baldwin, despite growing up in the Baptist church with a preacher for a father began to convert to Pentecostalism began in his early teenage years when he accompanied friends to a Pentecostal church, where, at the age of fourteen, he became street preacher (James Baldwin Biography). Of those years as a preacher, Baldwin recalled, Those three years in the pulpit I didn t realize it then that is what turned me into a writer, really, dealing with all that anguish and that despair and that beauty. Many of his works prominently feature religion, and mimic the bible in language and tone (James Baldwin About the Author). In Sonny s Blues, and many other of Baldwin s writings, the figure of the musician represents a move towards an anti institutional spirituality and suggests the ways in which Baldwin was becoming, not less secular, but move aware of the need to distinguish between the structured religion of the church and the authenticity of a self spirituality, a ... • 6. The Importance Of The Relevance Of The Data The importance of the relevance of the data has been identified since the very early work in context aware ubiquitous systems. Despite of its importance few works have been carried out to quantify the QoC and ensure the quality of the information on which the decisions and actions of contextaware systems are based. Moreover, many decision support techniques are insufficient to address the runtime uncertainty in the context information as they do not assess the QoC in an end to end fashion. We formulate the related work into two parts: 1) QoC attributes and modeling aspects 2) Runtime decision support addressing uncertainty A. QoC attributes and modeling aspects QoC attributes and their modeling comes into play to capture the uncertainties in context data. A well designed model is a key assessor to the quality of the context. Krause and Hochstatter [5] discussed the challenges in modeling the QoC and its usage. Several QoC models emerged but most of the QoC models were not properly quantified according to the QoC requirements. Castro et al. [6] investigated the accuracy of a location sensing service was compromised. Ranganathan et al. [7] used predicate and probabilistic logic to assign confidence values from 0 to 1 for every type of context. Dey et al. [1] suggested that mediation with the user can help to reduce the uncertainty. QoC is modeled as meta data where additional information about the quality of the context source is utilized to capture the uncertainty. Krause and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Grappling With Grief By The Survivor Essay Grappling with Grief Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death, (Brainyquote.com, 2016). Life in this day and age may often seem unkind, society is inherently violent, as demonstrated in popular films and television series. Many individuals seek to obtain professions that require the employee to regularly stake their own livelihood and safety on the line. Accompanied by the risk necessary to earn nominal wages, exists the probability that friends and co workers, with whom one may have developed a personal closeness and affection, will from time to time be injured and killed in the line of duty. With added longevity in that career, death comes part and parcel. Chalking it up to being the nature of the beast, may be a successful defensive posture for a period of time. For many people, however, the day will inevitably come when reflection and introspection become more frequent, guilt sets in for having lived while many others perished. The fairness of life being called into question by the survivor, the long term psychological effects become insurmountable (Goodtherapy.org, 2016). The bereavement just described is a condition known as survivor s guilt, and is just one of many symptoms that can be expected when grappling with loss of life complexities. Conceptually, death is often regarded as somewhat of a forbidden topic; this attitude may lend itself to limited awareness of grieving processes that can cripple the bereaved. She concluded that there is a preparation stage that the body goes through prior to deep rest. During that preparation stage, the body uses external or environmental clues, light and colours, to synchronize our circadian biological clock to the cycle of the sun s light (Smith 2013). Moreover, according to Hauck, a study was conducted with the assistant of Travelodge hotels and they concluded that participants that slept in blue rooms received the best sleep during their stay. Similarly, a light blue is the colour users will be exposed to prior to rest. This is also relevant in the other modes with relevant colours such as light green for meditation (Wright 2008/2017) and so on and so forth. Furthermore, we must take in to consideration the limitations of the application s design. People s perception and the effectiveness of the design are affected by the user s past experiences, the context and their goals (Johnson 2014). If the user was used to sleeping in an orange room as a child than perhaps the colour orange would be more effective in comforting them for sleep in contrast with the pale blue default colour. To counter this on the relaxation screens the user has a control bar that allows them to adjust the hue of the background. However, the user may not recognize this as an important factor in their sleep or they may not be able to identify the best colour for their own personal sleep. In the future I believe ... • 15. Romeo And Juliet Tragic Love Character Analysis Superficial Romance: The Tragic Love Story of Romeo and Juliet During the Elizabethan era, the sole job of people was to marry and have children to carry on the lineage of one s family. Many individuals married into families of higher status to raise their own status, and were also married for their beauty, which was thought to continue through their descendants. The love that was felt at the time was, in most cases, based on these outer attributes rather than internal ones such as personality. The practice of loving for appearances is clearly expressed in the drama, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, where two opposing families, the Capulets and the Montagues, coexist in the town of Verona. Romeo, from the house of the Montagues, is infatuated with Rosaline for her beauty, but his feelings for her immediately disappear when Romeo sees the far more beautiful Juliet, daughter of the Capulets. When they meet, Romeo s feelings are requited by Juliet, who then no longer wants to accept the arranged marriage with her suitor, Paris. The romantic love among Romeo, Rosaline, Juliet, and Paris, as well as the expectations Juliet s family has for her love is highly superficial, revealing that these characters value their loved ones for their external appearances, rather than who they are on the inside. Romeo s love for Juliet is unreliable and overexaggerated. In a short summary of recent events, the Chorus states that now old desire doth in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When looking at break evens it is also helpful to look at fixed and variable costs. Fixed overhead is steady and can be factored in quite accurately. Variable costs are not as simple to calculate but in many industries variable costs follow certain percentages or ratios so they are easier to project. According to Tim Berry, the Break even Analysis lets a manager determine what needs to be sold, monthly or annually, to cover the costs of doing business the actual break even point. The Break even Analysis depends on three key assumptions:1.Average per unit sales price (per unit revenue: This is the price that you receive per unit of sales2.Average per unit cost: This is the incremental cost, or variable cost, of each unit of sales. If you buy goods for resale, this is what you paid, on average, for the goods you sell. If you sell a service, this is what it costs you, per dollar of revenue or unit of service delivered, to deliver that service. 3.Monthly fixed costs: Technically, a break even analysis defines fixed costs as costs that would continue even if the company went broke. Instead, always use the regular running fixed costs, including payroll and normal expenses (total monthly Operating Expenses). This will give the company a better insight on financial realities (Berry 2004.)Exhibit A, below, shows a 12 month income statement for three levels of fixed costs: $50,000, $75,000, and $100,000.
