Ethnic Joke In The Workplace
If I were in this given situation, as soon as I looked up and saw the face of the person whose
group has been slandered was hurt, I would immediately feel uncomfortable, frustrated, and
disappointed. I would feel uncomfortable because at that given moment I would be placed in an
awkward situation of knowing someone else is wrong, yet not knowing the correct thing to do or
say to fix the situation. I would be frustrated with the individuals who broadcasted the ethnic joke
within a diverse group of people. Lastly, I would feel disappointed that someone would make an
ethnic joke in the work environment, especially if the organization valued making their employees
feel comfortable. Its hard to say what I would do in this situation, I would like

OSTEOARTHRITIS (OA)
OA is considered primary when no etiology can be clearly identified and secondary when the
disease develops in response to injuries such as joint trauma, ligament injury causing instability,
Paget s disease, Ehlers Danlos (congenital joint laxity), or congenital malformation of a joint. Twin
and family studies have shown a multifactorial pattern in primary OA. Precocious OA (onset early
in life) has been associated with a mutation in the gene coding for Type II collagen.
The initial changes in OA are found in the superficial zone of the articular cartilage and consist of
an increased water content of the articular cartilage and loss of proteoglycan. Proteolytic
degradation of proteoglycan reduces its chain length and inhibits ... Show more content on

There is a very strong association with the phenotypic frequency of the histocompatibility antigen,
HLA B27, particularly in Caucasians. Infectious agents (e.g., Shigella from the gastrointestinal
tract) may be involved in triggering the disease. There is a strong overlap between the arthritis
associated with inflammatory bowel disease and ankylosing spondylitis. Many patients with IBD
develop a degree of spondylitis, and many patients with ankylosing spondylitis have evidence of
bowel inflammation on biopsy.
Clinical Features
**AS and other spondyloarthopathies are characterized by three features: (1) insidious but
sometimes abrupt onset in patients under age 40, (2) duration of symptoms more than 3 months,
and (3) morning stiffness which improves with exercise. The joints characteristically affected are
the sacroiliac joints, the lumber vertebrae, thoracic and cervical vertebrae, the hips and rarely the
peripheral joints. A patient with bilateral sacroiliitis without the features of Reiter s syndrome (see
below), psoriasis, or inflammatory bowel disease, may be diagnosed with AS if there is also
limitation in motion of the spine.
Women rarely are diagnosed with AS. The reason for this protective effect of patient sex is not
understood. Women can have low back pain and bilateral sacroillitis, but the spine is rarely

Child Custody Rules Essay
The beginning of the fall semester can be a difficult time for co parenting families, especially with
regard to child custody. The transition from summer vacation to school can present a variety of
issues, as parents must readjust their schedules to accommodate for various obligations imposed by
the new school year. To avoid conflict and ensure a stress free segue, it is important that co parents
re examine and update their child custody arrangements. Below, the familylaw attorneys at Coyne,
Cundiff Hillemann, P.C. in Lake St. Louis, MO offer three back to school child custody tips to help
you through the transition.
Consistency is Key
Children thrive with consistency. Begin by referring to last year s school schedule. Most custody
arrangements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If possible, try to avoid a schedule that changes week to week. Sit down with your co parent and
attempt to create a simple, consistent schedule to carry your family through the school year.
Be Flexible
Schedule conflicts will happen. In addition to school schedules, co parents must now accommodate
for recitals, football practice, field trips, and other school related functions. The more flexible you
are with visitation, the easier it will be on the entire family. Make a point to plan out events ahead
of time, substituting visitation times when necessary. Sitting in for your co parent on occasion can
benefit you greatly, should you run into your own schedule conflict(s) down the road.
Plan Ahead
The school year is riddled with parent teacher conferences, PTA meetings, and various holidays.
Planning ahead will help you and your co parent avoid unnecessary turmoil while ensuring that
your child s needs are met. If you want to take your child away for the holidays, be sure to
discuss your plans with your co parent far in advance. Consider maintaining a shared calendar to
ensure everyone is on the same page. Should your child be involved in an emergency situation or
require assistance, each party will know who to

Epistemological Journeys In The Truman Show
In June 1998, a movie was released that challenged audiences around the world to re examine the
world around them. The brainchild of scriptwriter Andrew Niccol and director Peter Weir, The
Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey, details the life and times of one Truman Burbank. Truman is
the star of The Truman Show, the most popular reality TV show of all time. The town that he lives
in is a set. His friends and family, actors. Everything that happens to him is scripted. Every single
moment of his humdrum existence is broadcast live to the world. The twist? Truman has no idea
that this is all happening. Truman believes that he is just another normal insurance broker living in
a quaint little island town, working hard to make a living. Born and... Show more content on

They challenge concepts that most people would assume as innate and intuitive, namely the validity
of the empirical world that surrounds them. Descartes begins his Meditations of First Philosophy
with his deconstruction, a process in which he uses ultimate skepticism to demolish all of his
preconceived notions about reality hoping to then construct a new, unbiased epistemological system
atop an underlying fundamental axiom. In his deconstruction, he realizes that all [he] has ...
accepted [with] ... the highest truth and certainty, [he] received from ... the senses. This worries
Descartes, as realizes that he might be a madman whose mind tricks him into having vivid, but
ultimately imaginary experiences. Descartes comes to the conclusion that senses [are] mislead[ing],
and thus, he rejects that the world around him is inherently true. Truman arrives at a similar
conclusion after undergoing his own deconstruction. Throughout Truman s life, activists and fame
seekers alike had infiltrated Truman s world and tried to notify him of the nature of his existence.
Even though Truman was quickly escorted away from these outsiders and reassured that they were
insane, Truman nevertheless began to develop a subconscious paranoia that something was wrong
with his world. After a few particularly sloppy slip ups from the showrunners, such as allowing
Truman to get a glimpse of his dead father, or accidentally transmitting a backstage frequency over
Truman s radio, Truman starts to act on his paranoia. He begins to act like a madman, thinking that
the world somehow revolves around [him] and that everyone [around him] is in on it. Just like
Descartes, Truman realizes that the world around him cannot be trusted, and with no more
preconceived notions about reality, Truman also begins to seek out the

James Monroe s Beliefs During The Era Of Good Feelings
The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Britain over British seizures of
American ships, British aid to Native American tribes, and the American desire to restore
confidence in the republican experiment. Two years after the Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814,
James Monroe was elected as the fifth president of the United States. During his presidency, the
term Era of Good Feelings was coined. This phrase referred to the peace and prosperity of the
United States between 1817 and 1824. During the Era of Good Feelings, there was an increase in
nationalism and sectionalism. These beliefs developed concurrently due to the unification of
Americans through a strong, independent economy, the spread of nationalistic literature, art,... Show

Besides authors like Washington Irving and James Fenimore Cooper who wrote books based in
America, there were also poets and distinguished individuals who spread the idea of unity. For
example, a poet named Joseph Rodman Drake wrote a poem titled The American Flag in 1819
(Document 2). His poem was a tribute to the American flag and to the principles which America
was founded on, such as freedom. The American Flag was similar to other poems and literature at
that time in that it made Americans proud of their country. Before the Era of Good Feelings, there
were not many books or poems that were about America, nonetheless about American pride and
nationalism. Drake s poem helped nationalism rise because it allowed the beliefs of pride and unity
to spread around the nation. Speech was another important method in the spread of nationalism.
Stephen Decatur was an American naval officer who helped lead a major military victory against
the Barbary Pirates. After the victory, he gave a patriotic toast that highlighted his pride for
America. (Document 1) In the toast, Decatur stated that America would be right in any foreign
affair, no matter the situation. This statement in 1819 showed Decatur s unwavering loyalty and
support to the United States. Decatur s statement about the United States helped increase
nationalism because it showed that

Uniform style helps us scan articles quickly for key points and findings. Rules of style in scientific
writing encourage full disclosure of essential information and allow us to dispense with minor
distractions.
Style helps us: * express the key elements of quantitative results, * choose the graphic form that
will best suit our analyses, * report critical details of our research protocol, and * Describe
individuals with accuracy and respect.
When we use an editorial style, we remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation
for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. Those elements are codified in the rules we
follow for clear communication, allowing us to focus our intellectual energy on the substance of
our research (Foreword, Public Manual of American Psychological Association 6th ed., p. xiii).
An author writing for a publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid
inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without rules of style, three
different manuscripts might use sub test, subtest, and Subtest in one issue of a journal or book.

Women s Role In The Revolutionary War
Women have played an instrumental role in every American conflict from the Revolutionary War to
today complex battlefields. A major turning point for women s rights was the establishment of the
Women s Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. WAAC soldiers
fought to gain legitimacy within the militaryand overcome social biases. Their professionalism and
determination paved the way forward for women s integration into one all military branches. The
best way to illustrate women s integration is to start back in colonial times. During the
Revolutionary War, many women supported the war effort primarily in quartermaster roles working
as cooks, laundresses, and nurses. Deborah Sampson impersonated a man of over a year in General

How to Reduce Employee Turnover with Motivation
1. Introduction Nowadays, a word is very popular in white collars. It is luo ci in Chinese, which
means people leaving their current work without a new job. With the development of society and
the improvement of the level of people s life, the phenomenon of luo ci become more and more
common. As we know, the employee turnover of hospitality industry is quite higher than other
industries. In 2004, Wildes warned that hospitality would face a significant work force deficit of
quality managers in the near future. Not only is there a shrinking labor pool due to other industries
attracting our potential managers (i.e., retail, banking, and healthcare) (American Express, 2006),
but turnover continues to be a significant problem. High... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

education, the stronger ability. Therefore, those hotels always focus on those employees who have
high education, and give them higher position and more training, often send them to study and
investigate. And those hostellers think that only they can bring benefits for the hotels, while ignore
the importance of primary level organizations. Thus, sometimes, the primary level employees think
their abilities cannot be confirmed and their jobs cannot meet their sense of achievement. Finally,
in order to find a leader who can accept their abilities and get sense of achievement, they choose
quit their job, and change another one. 3.4 Interpersonal relationship As we know, the most things
working in hotel is dealing with people. Some hotels, especially some state owned hotels always

compete with each other; the awareness of teamwork is weak and only pay attention to personal
performance. The employees working in the hotel, especially the front line service employees, their

Gladiator Movie. vs History
During the Roman Empire many emperors ruled in their own ways. Some were considered to be
one of the Five Good Emperors, and the others didn t last because they were assassinated. They
either just cared about themselves or actually cared about the citizens of Rome. The movie
Gladiator portrays Roman life and the gladiatorial games. Really though, how does the movie
compare to the history of the Roman Empire? I am really interested in the actual history of the
gladiators and the movie is one of my favorites. That s why I chose to do my review on it and I
came to find out that the movie didn t give me the information on the real life and times of the
gladiators. In the movie, after the death of the emperor, Maximus becomes one of the... Show more

They had to inspect the men just by looking at their bodies and making sure they were strong
and healthy enough to purchase. I did not pay good money for you, for your company. I paid it
so I could profit from your death, he said. These quotes show that no one cared about the
gladiators because they were slaves. All they cared about was that they put on a good show.
Gladiator didn t show much of the training that the men received. Most of it was them in battle,
but not what went on behind the scenes and all the vigorous training they had to go through.
Watching the behind the scenes was interesting because throughout the whole thing I thought to
myself, wow this is crazy how much work it took for all these men to become gladiators for the
film. No wonder they were all buff, because they did hours and hours of training everyday. In
Roman times, gladiators had to endure lengthy and demanding training so that they could be
prepared for what lay before them. In the movie, Maximus was Rome s greatest general so they
just assumed he was the best around and didn t need any training. One thing I noticed that wasn t
historically accurate was the chants of the spectators at the arena. When a gladiator was wounded
the audience was able to whether or not they want him to be killed or spared. The way the
audience would decide would be either to wave their thumbs around, if they want him to be spared,
or they would press their thumb against their opposite hand,

leadership of Jack Ma, its founder has transformed into one of the most successful e commerce

China. The company tailored its strategies to meet the needs of the customers and made a mark

Also again Ma decided to build a loyal customer base before really attempting to make a profit; he
did this by offering free listings as opposed to eBay, which charged for listings (Deresky, 2010).
A major factors in Taoboa s success was Alibaba Groups better management of the trust factor
involved in e commerce trading and better understanding of the local Chinese market. eBbay
positioned its standard business model that was used in the United States and other countries.
Taoboa, instead, established its own payment escrow service. With AliPay buyers paid into an
escrow account that did not pay the seller until the buyer noted he had received the product;
therefore, making the transaction thrust worthy since the money was in escrow until the
transaction was completed (Deresky, 2010).
Furthermore, Taoboa offered e mail and chat services between users unlike eBay, which
concealed identities and only had an offline messaging system. Taoboa also advertised
aggressively through websites and billboards in major population areas something eBay did not do.
The final steps of defeat for eBay was when Taobao offered three years of free listings and when
Taoboa launched its B2C services in 2006. Moreover Taoboa had a large list of

factors related to setting a solid foundation towards success can be directly linked to the importance

Heavily influenced by the BPP, East Wind began in Los Angelesin 1972. Primarily consisting of
Japanese Americans, activists focused on the Japanese American population by doing community
work and organizing much like the BPP. East Wind strongly emphasized serving the people by
engaging in local struggles around drug abuse, worker issues, and community mental health (Pulido

minority, must be explained to better understand the establishment of the East Winds. Bob H.
Suzuki brings to light the transition from Yellow Peril of Japanese Americans being в

minority formulates from the wake of World War II, as the limited upward mobility of Asian
Americans was achievable because of the demand for workers to fill lower echelon white collar
jobs along with training and socialization Asians had acquired through both home and extended

African Americans During World War I
Many African Americans had moved north during the Great Migration to escape conditions in the
south, but found that discrimination was still prevalent in northern cities. African Americans not
only had difficulties finding jobs, but still felt the stigma of being black. Living within the time
of legal discrimination, many African Americans soon realized that though they may have
escaped the violence of the south, they still had to deal with the challenges and setbacks of
being black in America. The Great Migration began in the 1910s and 1920s during World War I.
The second wave of migration of Blacks to the north and west began in the 1940s during and after
World War II (Alexander, 1998, p. 352). With the war going on, many black people
found jobs due
to the numerous openings of those fighting in the war. But once the war ended, white soldiers
came back, finding blacks filling their jobs and wanting them back. Black men had particularly
difficult times finding jobs; they were the last to be hired or accepted in the unions and were the
first to be let go during the Depression (Dyer, 2001). Not only did the new immigrants face tension
with whites over jobs, but also with Northern blacks, who believed that the migrants threatened
their social, economic and political security (Tolnay 1997, p.1216).
African Americans in the north and south were able to face blatant discrimination in jobs, housing,
wages and other areas of public life because of the enforcement of Jim Crow

The Issue Of Child Marriage Essay
Child marriage is one of the hardest things a teenage child could face. It is basically a violation
of children s human rights. It is strictly prohibited by international law. Early marriage takes
away the girls right to make important decisions about their sexual health and well being.
Historically, patriarchal societies have marginalized women in various aspects across the world.
Women disenfranchisement, in this way, is not a new phenomenon. However, with the passage
of time women have been able to claim their rights and are seen at par with men in many
developed societies. But the misfortune still persists in many parts of the world. Many societies
still fail to see woman as fully human and fail to appreciate their role in the building of society. As
a result, women are still subject to grave injustice in many societies and such societies also suffer
from underdevelopment for minimal role of women in their development. Nepal is a country where
women suffer from the issue of Child or Early Marriages . This is a century s long practice in Nepal
and unfortunately nothing significant has appeared in form of tangible indicators that indicate the
improvement in this grave scenario. International community and NGOs are working on this issue
of Nepal as their priority but unfortunately with little success. Nepal government has also been
brought in line on this and it has committed to ensure elimination of this devastating practice by

Sociological Perspectives And Trends Of Health And Illness
M2 Use different sociological perspectives to discuss patterns and trends of health and illness in
two different social groups. D1 Evaluate different sociological explanations for patterns and
trends of health and illness in two different social groups. Introduction In this assignment I will
be writing about two sociological perspectives and discus there patterns and trends of health and
illness to two social groups. The black report was published in 1980, and it included different
facts about how health can be improved from all different backgrounds in different social
groupings. There is still a co relation between social class and infant mortality rates, life
expectancy and inequalities in the use of medical services. This report looked at the differences
between health and illness. Sociologists from this very day still use the black report to look at
inequalities of health because it was that significant and powerful. Different researches do believe
that there is a link between social class and health. It is a statistical impression and also it has
been argued that there isn t really a pattern in social class, age and peoples employment that has
had an impact on people s health inequalities. Statistical artefact is a connection that shows how
different systems have been used and measured. lower class have a much higher morbidity and
mortality rates which are compared with the higher class that only work in offices or as a doctors.

to Massachusetts with the band for a competition. I was super excited and couldn t wait to sell
all of my tickets. When the day finally came I was so excited. We rode in a coach bus which was
really cool because I ve never been in one before. When we arrived in Massachusetts we headed
over to where we were having the competition. The competition was being held at a really big
school. We performed and sounded really good. I was super nervous I didn t want to mess up
since I had never done that before.
When we were finally done the competition we got our award handed to us and our tickets to get
into Six Flags. We left the school and head off on our journey to Agawam, Massachusetts where
Six Flags was located. As we got closer and closer there were flags on the side of the road leading
us there and my anticipation grew even stronger. I couldn t wait to get there.
Once we finally arrived everyone couldn t wait to get off the bus and have some fun. I was really
excited. We got off the bus and had a really long walk to get into the park. There were no close
parking spaces for the bus so we had to go all the way to the back parking lot and walk up to the
entrance. Once I walked into the park it was so much bigger than any I expected. All the roller
coasters were huge. I didn t get to go on any because everyone would ask me to hold their stuff but
a couple things I did go on were the bumper cars, a water slide, a boat ride and I played some mini
games. Those were fun enough for me but if I ever go back again I am going to try the roller
coasters. The water slide was really fun. All you had to do was go up a ramp inside a tube and the
ramp would push you down the slide while water was being splashed at

What Does History And Culture Of A Civilization Shape Its...
Fashion and celebrity, as they are today, are often seen as the end product of a long historical
process of industrialisation and democratisation. How useful is it to see them in this historical
perspective? What does it help to explain? Your answer should discuss concrete examples.
Introduction
Throughout the long expansion of human history, local fashion and clothing have always been a
good indicator that reflects historical, political and economical forces within a society. Varies
historical periods will have corresponding fashion and style to represent their unique value and
culture. Multiple looks with a variety of stylistic influences are stripped from their historical
contexts and become part of a large fashion influenced process (Kaiser, 1990). Thus, our modern
day fashion is indeed an end product of series of historical progression. This essay will aim to
examine how does history and culture of a civilization shape its unique fashion styling and
influence modern day fashion by using China as an example and explore the variances in its fashion
development throughout five thousand years of rich Chinese history.
Over the past five thousand years of Chinese history, fashion trend in China has experienced great
changes in most of Chinese dynasties and each of those historical periods are able to distinguish
itself among others while learn and borrow from the previous dynasty and develope continuously
generation after generation. Those heritage chinese elements has

manage the Community Development Block Grants, and Emergency Solutions Grants issued by
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Research Issue
All cities are faced with the complicated issue of addressing housing needs for their population.
Even more complex are the needs of the city s low income neighborhoods and residents. In
addition, according to the article, Social Inequities in Environmental Risks Associated with
Housing and Residential Location A Review of Evidence by Braubacth and Fairburn, there is a,
strong link between housing characteristics and health. To help address these issues and protect the

Better Mental Health Care Will Stop Senseless Shootings...
Gun control is a topic which has become highly politicized. Mental health is an issue that many
people do not understand. The correlation between these two issues is one that many do not see.
Shootings have been on the rise and no one can come up with a good reason why. That is where
these two seemingly different issues become something that has more in common than most can
see. For gun related violence, and violence in general, what is a good method of dealing with these
issues and saving lives? Mental healthcare improvement or gun control?
To get a better idea of the two different options and what they may look like, one has to look at the
history. The history provides a basis for what has happened with this particular issue in ... Show

Lobotomies, which are surgical procedures that cut and scrape different connections in the brain,
were very common practice. They were thought to help cure mental illness, but often ended up
causing more damage than good.
Dorthea Dix, a well known name in the psychology field, was a major contributor to improving the
quality of life for those that were in institutions. She was a volunteer at a hospital during the civil
war and realized the horrendous treatment to the patients.
The realization that people did better when they were in their own environment, as opposed to a
mental institution was a major turning point in the treatment of the mentally ill. This was the time
of deinstitutionalization, realizing that individuals would thrive outside of the institution. An article
in the Washington Post gives the shocking statistics The number of Americans with intellectual
disabilities who live in large state institutions declined by 85 percent between 1965 and 2009
(Pollack). By putting mentally ill individuals back into a more normal environment their cognitive
abilities were improved as well as their treatment. They were treated as real individuals not as just
another patient. Outpatient treatment centers became the main provider of services for the
mentally ill. While deinstitutionalization is a good thing, it can also have some negative pitfalls. A

How Early Islamic Caliphates
The first three caliphates to rule after the death of Muhammad shaped the foundation for the growth
and development of the early Islamic community. The goal of the caliphates was to unify the
Islamic people and spread the word of Islam as far as they could. Although their main goal was the
same, the Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid caliphate went about this
goal in separate ways. The different techniques used by each caliphate was dependent on the
individual caliphs. The treatment of groups of peoples inside the empires also differed between the
caliphates. The Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid Caliphate each
employed styles of rule unique to their empires.
The Rashidun Caliphate was the first of the Islamic caliphates established after Muhammad s death.
After his death, the early Islamic community was almost torn apart due to a crisis of control. The
Rashidun caliphate had the important job of keeping the community together and growing without
the Prophet. Because of the Arab Islamic conquests, the Muslims gained large amounts of territory;
however, the Arab Muslim leaders did not have the experience that was needed to rule an empire.
In The Rise of Islam, Matthew Gordon writes, a fundamental challenge for the caliphs, their
governors, and the Arab military elite was to understand how large scale agrarian economies
functioned (28). In order to rule an empire, the authority of the Rashidun caliphs had to be
legitimized.

Preventable hospital readmissions remain among one of the many serious quality issues plaguing
the healthcare industry today. Readmissions can carry fiscal implications, impact patient safety, and
outcomes of care (Helm, Alaeddini, Bretthauer, Skolarus, 2016). The cost of unplanned hospital
readmissions is estimated to be upwards of $15 billion dollars annually of which $12 billion has
been associated with preventable admissions (Helm et al., 2016). It is highly recognized that as

Additionally, reviewers correlated the following information: site of hospitalization, type of
admission (i.e. surgical, medical, or behavioral health), the complexity of the hospitalization, and
the age of the patient. After obtaining the necessary data, reviewers worked on determining the
frequency of post discharge ED visits that resulted in readmission, and the factors associated with
each ED visit.
MTF Action Plan
With a goal to obtain a 33% reduction in ED utilization by recently discharged patients, the MTF
devised the following strategies to facilitate care transitions and improve communication from
inpatient units to clinics and between clinics and patients. Collectively the interventions were
recognized as Project Red Light and consisted of developing a Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant process for sharing acute care admission/discharge
information with appropriate clinics and outpatient providers as well as scheduling follow up
appointments prior to discharge or by the next business day following discharge. Other program
interventions involved utilizing a multi disciplinary approach to discharge planning consisting of
input from Care Coordinators, Primary Care Managers, Social Workers, and Discharge Planners.

Cars today are more user friendly and designed to make the driving experience as easy as

expectations of the first ever car inventor could have dreamed of .
In 1768, the first auto mobile ran by steam power was created by Nicolas Joseph Cugnot. The first
car to run by combustion hydrogen engine was created by François Isaac de Rivaz. Research
states that Karl Benz created the first ever automobile in 1886. He created the first gasoline
automobile. The name of the car was called the Benz Patent Motor wagon , and this was also
considered the first manufactured line of vehicles. The first long distance trip was taken by
Bertha Benz in 1888 . Because she had the courage to take this trip, Benz was able to expand his
empire and improve his revolutionary invention a way he never thought possible. Ferdinand
Verbiest built the first steam powered auto mobile in about 1672 as a gift for the Chinese
Emperor. The car was not large enough to actually carry a person, but it did run. The first car that

The Importance Of Cultural Competence In Nursing
Cultural competence is a set of attitudes and behaviors which make an organization run effectively
and judiciously. This competence allows many different cultures to work non offensively and
professionally in various situations. (Flowers, 2004) Cultural competence involves many different
factors. These factors include actions, communications networks, dialects, human activities, morals,
and religious views. People can successfully be culturally competent when they consciously and
deliberately function in a group with multi cultural circumstances and respect those differences.
(Flowers, 2004)
Cultural competence is critical in nursing care. Today s healthcare providers must adapt patient care
to be in consistent and compatible with the patient s culture and values. Nurses can enlarge and
advance their knowledge of culture through many sources. There are many sources that nurses can
turn to for education and general information: articles, internet resources, seminars and books.

Abraham Maslow Hierarchy Of Hierarchy
Abraham Maslow, who was a humanistic psychologist, argued that needs are arranged in a
ladder like steps. He proposed a rising order of needs from the level of physiological to self
transcendence. The order of needs starts from basic survival or lower order needs to higher
order needs. As one level of need is satisfied another higher order need will emerge and assume
importance in life. The hierarchy is shown in Fig. Physiological needs: The most potent and
lowest level of all the needs are physiological needs. Thus the needs of hunger, thirst, sex,
temperature regulation and rest occupy the lowest step in the ladder. According to Maslow, when
these physiological needs are deprived for a long period, all other needs fail to appear We must eat

Semantic Search Based On Web Search Essay
The upcoming section will address the some of the architectural concepts put forth by the scholars
in semantic search and the prime concern of the paper; how the semantic searching process will
help in augmenting the result of web search. Further, the paper will also put light on a proposal to
build a semantic search based on previous keyword search engine but with the added capability of
Natural Language Processing.
3.SEMANTIC SEARCH TECHNIQUES
This section describes different semantic methodologies being forwarded by the scholars. Currently,
various types of search engines are being deployed to access the information required. Each search
engine has its own features and uses different algorithms to index, rank and present web documents.
Hence the result put forth on information retrieval by the search engines are different from one
another. And there is not a definite and unique single technology or architecture that leads to a
logical and meaningful search engine. In fact there can be various ways to achieve this.
G. Madhu, Dr. A. Govardhan, and Dr. TV Rajinikanth in their survey of intelligent semantic web
search engines have addressed the two types of research problems in creating semantic search
engine. The first problem of matching a query to the concerned documents with related information
in an intelligent and meaningful way can be solved with semantic annotations to produce intelligent
and meaningful information by using query interface mechanism and

The Study of Marine Life
It wasn t until Aristotle s time that written records of marine life was composed. Aristotle (384
BC to 322 BC) was the first to write about marine life, recording his observations made on or near
the Island of Lesbos in Ancient Greece. He recorded identifications of a variety of species
ranging from echinoderms to crustaceans to mollusks and even fish. Not only was Aristotle the
first to write about his observations of marine life, he was also the first to record his work on the
anatomy and physiology of marine animals and was the first to use a systematic taxonomy to
classify these animals (Blits, 1999). It is because of his early work that Aristotle is often referred
to as the father of marine biology and comparative physiology.
The modern day study of marine life began in the 18th century. Captain James Cook (1728 1779)
was one of the first explorers to circumnavigate the world. During this time he mapped much of the
uncharted waters and also logged many descriptions of plants and animals he came across during
his extensive voyages (Cook King, 1784).
Following Captain Cook s exploration, many scientists began to study marine life more closely.
One example of such early research is the famously debated topic of the importance of subsidence
in reef growth (Fautin, 2002). Subsidence is a geological process in which landforms gradually
sink as a result of movements of the lithospheric plates of the Earth s crust and upper mantle.

Patricia Stanley writes that in the 1950 Sylvia Plath won a scholarship to Smith College (Stanley,
2006: 396). Regardless of the success in her studies, Sylvia Plath suffered her first depression when

Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On The Crime
Criminals convicted of sexual offences such as rape and molestation often receive sentences that
are not severe enough to account for their crime. These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape
has had ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or
considered out of the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crimetend to
impact the severity of their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner,
convicted sexual offender of Stanford University. Turner digitally penetrated an intoxicated,
unconscious woman behind a dumpster and served three months in prison. Differential Association
states that criminal behaviour is learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends.
Neutralisation is the process of learning to rationalise crime by shifting blame and trivialising the
crime. Brock Turner s case is wrought with neutralisation. Turner s feeble sentence isn t an
exception to otherwise proportionate punishments of rapists; it s the rule. His statement, the victim
s statement, media coverage and the public perspective can all be analysed using Neutralisation
Theory and Differential Association to get a better understanding of why rapists are not sufficiently
punished.
Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association both stem from the Positivist School of
Criminology meaning that both surmise that punishment should fit the criminal not the crime. This
simply isn t applicable to

discovers she has powers and decides she wants to fight crime, given her desire to be a cop,
make sure she verbalizes that she wants to find out who is dealing drugs at the school. This
makes her goal clearer and more tangible. She can decide to practice her new skills at crime
fighting, but this is where the structure is the weakest. There s a series of scenes in which she talks
to her friends and then goes on several crime stopping adventures.
Unfortunately, this makes the structure weaker and a bit more fragmented. Also, the idea of
attempted rape doesn t fit with the tone. Consider focusing more on her investigation of who might
be distributing the drugs. Peel away her powers.

Women Of The Katungulu Bible Training School
CONTEXT (MOTIVATION):
The purpose of this project is to help the women of the Katungulu Bible Training School ( KBTS )
develop basic entrepreneurial skills and gain a sense of empowerment. Women come to KBTS with
their husbands, who are training to become pastors with the African Inland Church Tanzania (
AICT ). While much emphasis is placed on teaching women to serve as a pastor s wife, women are
not often given the opportunity to make a name for themselves and are relegated to a subservient
role. This project will build on the work that McMaster Scholars, Genelle Castro and Alicia Kalik,
began in 2015. During the 2015 KBTS Women s Conference, attendees expressed a desire to have
additional training on business and self empowerment. The ... Show more content on

When a business is successful it is able to provide a sustainable income. By having two incomes,
the family can better financially support their children, along with their other financial
obligations. School will be more affordable for children, and they can see what accomplishments
their parents have achieved. Children will gain more responsibilities at home, and help them
learn new skills along the way (Sagalla Carney, 2012). Through all of the obstacles that women
have faced struggling for the right to have a career, it can be empowering to have a career.
Women did not give up, and knew that they had what it took to support a family, as well as
themselves. Because it was a challenge, women started working harder for what they wanted, and
helped them become better business women. Their confidence rose, and having more opportunities
gave them a purpose (Dina, 2012).
METHODOLOGY:
My project consisted of conducting a one day women s conference. The first part of the session
will cover empowerment. I have created posters and activities that cover the basic tenets of
empowerment. The purpose of this section is to get women to find their strengths and see what
they can accomplish for themselves. The next section covered entrepreneurship. In that session
attendees were broken into groups in order to observe how well they interact with each other to
form a business. Each group developed a business and a product that they would

Paradigm Vs Traditional Paradigm
A paradigm is a model of a situation or a mindset. Paradigms can be rigid or constantly developing
as you learn and grow, physically maturing or emotionally evolving. Initially, a paradigm was
referring to an accepted model or pattern. In Structure, Thomas Kuhn defined a paradigm simply as
a group of exemplary problem solutions universally accepted by the members of a scientific
community (Brad Wray, 2012). According to Kuhn, what constitute a paradigmare not abstract
theories, but concrete applications of the theories for solutions of typical problem. Paradigm can
provide new ways of understanding behaviors in humans such as in individuals, organization,
family, community or group and global context. The paradigm concept can serve us... Show more

Traditionally, being white is superior across the board, while the alternative paradigm would
celebrate the rich color of diversity. A traditional paradigm that has gone on for centuries would
be the sales and promotion of white baby dolls. Until the modern day alternative paradigm shift
in the celebration of diversity, all children were presented with a white baby doll as a gift. This
paradigm skewed the thought of what a perfect baby looked like, leaving children and even adults
absorbing from the youngest age that white was superior. Currently, a child can find a doll to match
their hair color, eye color and skin color with facial features that reflect their ethnicity.
Charles Barkley once stated, I m not paid to be a role model. I m paid to wreak havoc on the
basketball court. This quote is a perfect example of the traditional paradigm illustrating
impersonal and a competitive mindset. Mr. Barkley felt no obligation to society and
demonstrated that his success was only about him and what he was paid to do. An alternative
paradigm for such a public figure would be LeBron James, The LeBron James Family Foundation
focuses on children, with James donating around $41 million in 2015 sending 1,100 kids to
school. Every child that finished his program will go to college for free. Additionally, James spoke

Sectionals Reflection
One day on May 11, 2017 during IHSA 3A Ottawa sectionals for track and field, I was running
the 400 meter dash and the 4x4 meter relay. I was mainly focused on my main event which was
the 400 meter dash because my goal was to qualify for state. Coming into this race, I already
knew I had a disadvantage because I was assigned to lane 8 but I had mentally prepared myself
days before sectionals. I m standing at the starting line ready to give my all and hoping to make it
to state. The gun is shot to start the race, and within 120 meters left of my race I see my
competitors gaining a lead off the curb. I mentally start to tear down because I expected myself
to keep up with them. At the end of the race I kept my composure even though I wanted to cry on
the inside. This was a challenging moment for me, I worked hard everyday in practice to miss
qualifying for state by 2 seconds.
My coach walked over to me and told me that the people I was running with were fast, so was I.
He thought I would ve ran a better race if I was assigned to an inside lane of the track to see my
competitors running on the side of me. My coach knew I was feeling down and it showed on my
face, but I had to remain humble and start getting ready to run my ... Show more content on

I was able to see girls run the 400 meter dash and my coach told me while sitting in the bleachers
that I won t have to be watching my race because I will be running on the track next year. After
state, AAU track was right around the corner. My goal for the summer was to beat my personal
record which was a 1:01.02. For AAU we only had practice twice a week and the rest of the days
we were expected to practice on our own. My AAU track coach reminded me that I can count on
him if I ever needed anything and he believes in me if nobody else does. Having a good support
system from my coach and teammates makes the process easier for achieving

Family Relationships, Individual Identity And The American...
Family relationships, individual identity and the American dream are all seen throughout this
story. Blanche DuBois and her sister Stella Kowalski both desire to be happily married. They will
go to great lengths to get and to keep the men in their lives. The sisters want the best for each
other, however they do not always agree with what that may be. Family is important but which
family member will prove to be more important?
The setting takes place in New Orleans. The small studio apartment and the continuous noise from
the streets below give way for an exposed home. The Kowalski s had a tumultuous marriage and it
is only hindered by the arrival of Blanche DuBois.
Blanche is a fragile woman who has experienced a great deal of despair. She has lost her husband
to suicide many years ago and recently lost her family home. After experiencing such devastating
losses she gains many traits such as poor self esteem, sexual addiction and a drinking problem.
She desperately tries to mask her flaws with cheap, flashy clothes and an over confident attitude.
She believes these attributes will attract gentlemen suitors and the attention of men is how
Blanche values her self worth. By getting married she hopes to overcome her problems and
considers any gentleman suitor for the job. Blanche sets her sights on Harold Mitch Mitchell. He
is far from the ideal man in which she would like to marry, however she is desperate.
Mitch is very much a gentleman in every sense and this is seen

Observation Paper On Child Development
Observation Paper A unique opportunity was presented to me as I prepared to complete the
observation or interview paper for HDFS 225. We have close friends who have a fourteen year
old son with Down syndrome and I was given permission to spend time with Jason (not his real
name) over a weekend and this enabled me to observe an adolescent male who happens to be a
special needs child. The adolescent period of human development interests me since this stage in
life presents significant changes and is considered to be some of the most critical and challenging
years in human development. The addition of the documented special need made the opportunity
very intriguing and I thought it created an excellent learning opportunity. Not only would I be
digging into the development of a 14 year old, I would also be gaining knowledge about the
impact or effects of Down syndromeon development. Jason is 14 years old, short but heavy set
for his age and height. He is typically in a very good mood and happy to have a friend to spend
time with and this day as I visited him at his home was no different. Down syndrome is a
chromosomal disorder which occurs in 1 out of every 800 live births ((T. Crandell, C. Crandell
Vander Zanden, 2012, p.81). Most Down patients have a condition called trisomy 21, or 3 copies
of the 21st chromosome. This results in an individual with 47 total chromosomes instead of 46 that
are normal (Crandell et al., 2012, p.81). This extra chromosome alters typical human

Twin and family studies have shown a multifactorial pattern in primary OA. Precocious OA (onset early in life) has been associated with a mutation in the gene coding for Type II collagen. Many patients with IBD develop a degree of spondylitis, and many patients with ankylosing spondylitis have evidence of bowel inflammation on biopsy. Clinical Features **AS and other spondyloarthopathies are characterized by three features: (1) insidious but sometimes abrupt onset in patients under age 40, (2) duration of symptoms more than 3 months, and (3) morning stiffness which improves with exercise. • 5. Epistemological Journeys In The Truman Show In June 1998, a movie was released that challenged audiences around the world to re examine the world around them. The brainchild of scriptwriter Andrew Niccol and director Peter Weir, The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey, details the life and times of one Truman Burbank. Truman is the star of The Truman Show, the most popular reality TV show of all time. The town that he lives in is a set. His friends and family, actors. Everything that happens to him is scripted. Every single moment of his humdrum existence is broadcast live to the world. The twist? Truman has no idea that this is all happening. They challenge concepts that most people would assume as innate and intuitive, namely the validity of the empirical world that surrounds them. Descartes begins his Meditations of First Philosophy with his deconstruction, a process in which he uses ultimate skepticism to demolish all of his preconceived notions about reality hoping to then construct a new, unbiased epistemological system atop an underlying fundamental axiom. In his deconstruction, he realizes that all [he] has ... accepted [with] ... the highest truth and certainty, [he] received from ... the senses. This worries Descartes, as realizes that he might be a madman whose mind tricks him into having vivid, but ultimately imaginary experiences. Descartes comes to the conclusion that senses [are] mislead[ing], and thus, he rejects that the world around him is inherently true. Truman arrives at a similar conclusion after undergoing his own deconstruction. Throughout Truman s life, activists and fame seekers alike had infiltrated Truman s world and tried to notify him of the nature of his existence. Even though Truman was quickly escorted away from these outsiders and reassured that they were insane, Truman nevertheless began to develop a subconscious paranoia that something was wrong with his world. After a few particularly sloppy slip ups from the showrunners, such as allowing Truman to get a glimpse of his dead father, or accidentally transmitting a backstage frequency over Truman s radio, Truman starts to act on his paranoia. He begins to act like a madman, thinking that the world somehow revolves around [him] and that everyone [around him] is in on it. Just like Descartes, Truman realizes that the world around him cannot be trusted, and with no more preconceived notions about reality, Truman also begins to seek out the ... James Monroe s Beliefs During The Era Of Good Feelings The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Britain over British seizures of American ships, British aid to Native American tribes, and the American desire to restore confidence in the republican experiment. Two years after the Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814, James Monroe was elected as the fifth president of the United States. During his presidency, the term Era of Good Feelings was coined. This phrase referred to the peace and prosperity of the United States between 1817 and 1824. During the Era of Good Feelings, there was an increase in nationalism and sectionalism. For example, a poet named Joseph Rodman Drake wrote a poem titled The American Flag in 1819 (Document 2). His poem was a tribute to the American flag and to the principles which America was founded on, such as freedom. The American Flag was similar to other poems and literature at that time in that it made Americans proud of their country. Before the Era of Good Feelings, there were not many books or poems that were about America, nonetheless about American pride and nationalism. Drake s poem helped nationalism rise because it allowed the beliefs of pride and unity to spread around the nation. Speech was another important method in the spread of nationalism. Stephen Decatur was an American naval officer who helped lead a major military victory against the Barbary Pirates. After the victory, he gave a patriotic toast that highlighted his pride for America. Gladiator didn t show much of the training that the men received. Most of it was them in battle, but not what went on behind the scenes and all the vigorous training they had to go through. Watching the behind the scenes was interesting because throughout the whole thing I thought to myself, wow this is crazy how much work it took for all these men to become gladiators for the film. No wonder they were all buff, because they did hours and hours of training everyday. In Roman times, gladiators had to endure lengthy and demanding training so that they could be prepared for what lay before them. In the movie, Maximus was Rome s greatest general so they just assumed he was the best around and didn t need any training. One thing I noticed that wasn t historically accurate was the chants of the spectators at the arena. African Americans During World War I Many African Americans had moved north during the Great Migration to escape conditions in the south, but found that discrimination was still prevalent in northern cities. African Americans not only had difficulties finding jobs, but still felt the stigma of being black. Living within the time of legal discrimination, many African Americans soon realized that though they may have escaped the violence of the south, they still had to deal with the challenges and setbacks of being black in America. The Great Migration began in the 1910s and 1920s during World War I. The second wave of migration of Blacks to the north and west began in the 1940s during and after World War II (Alexander, 1998, p. 352). With the war going on, many black people found jobs due to the numerous openings of those fighting in the war. But once the war ended, white soldiers came back, finding blacks filling their jobs and wanting them back. Black men had particularly difficult times finding jobs; they were the last to be hired or accepted in the unions and were the first to be let go during the Depression (Dyer, 2001). Not only did the new immigrants face tension with whites over jobs, but also with Northern blacks, who believed that the migrants threatened their social, economic and political security (Tolnay 1997, p.1216). It is strictly prohibited by international law. Early marriage takes away the girls right to make important decisions about their sexual health and well being. Historically, patriarchal societies have marginalized women in various aspects across the world. Women disenfranchisement, in this way, is not a new phenomenon. However, with the passage of time women have been able to claim their rights and are seen at par with men in many developed societies. But the misfortune still persists in many parts of the world. Many societies still fail to see woman as fully human and fail to appreciate their role in the building of society. As a result, women are still subject to grave injustice in many societies and such societies also suffer from underdevelopment for minimal role of women in their development. I was in chorus and we were going on a trip to Massachusetts with the band for a competition. I was super excited and couldn t wait to sell all of my tickets. When the day finally came I was so excited. We rode in a coach bus which was really cool because I ve never been in one before. When we arrived in Massachusetts we headed over to where we were having the competition. The competition was being held at a really big school. We performed and sounded really good. I was super nervous I didn t want to mess up since I had never done that before. When we were finally done the competition we got our award handed to us and our tickets to get into Six Flags. We left the school and head off on our journey to Agawam, Massachusetts where Six Flags was located. As we got closer and closer there were flags on the side of the road leading us there and my anticipation grew even stronger. I couldn t wait to get there. Once we finally arrived everyone couldn t wait to get off the bus and have some fun. I was really excited. We got off the bus and had a really long walk to get into the park. There were no close parking spaces for the bus so we had to go all the way to the back parking lot and walk up to the entrance. Once I walked into the park it was so much bigger than any I expected. All the roller coasters were huge. I didn t get to go on any because everyone would ask me to hold their stuff but a couple things I did go on were the bumper cars, a water slide, a boat ride and I played some mini games. Those were fun enough for me but if I ever go back again I am going to try the roller coasters. The water slide was really fun. All you had to do was go up a ramp inside a tube and the ramp would push you down the slide while water was being splashed at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. What Does History And Culture Of A Civilization Shape Its... Fashion and celebrity, as they are today, are often seen as the end product of a long historical process of industrialisation and democratisation. How useful is it to see them in this historical perspective? What does it help to explain? Your answer should discuss concrete examples. Introduction Throughout the long expansion of human history, local fashion and clothing have always been a good indicator that reflects historical, political and economical forces within a society. Varies historical periods will have corresponding fashion and style to represent their unique value and culture. Multiple looks with a variety of stylistic influences are stripped from their historical contexts and become part of a large fashion influenced process (Kaiser, 1990). Thus, our modern day fashion is indeed an end product of series of historical progression. This essay will aim to examine how does history and culture of a civilization shape its unique fashion styling and influence modern day fashion by using China as an example and explore the variances in its fashion development throughout five thousand years of rich Chinese history. Over the past five thousand years of Chinese history, fashion trend in China has experienced great changes in most of Chinese dynasties and each of those historical periods are able to distinguish itself among others while learn and borrow from the previous dynasty and develope continuously generation after generation. The correlation between these two issues is one that many do not see. Shootings have been on the rise and no one can come up with a good reason why. That is where these two seemingly different issues become something that has more in common than most can see. For gun related violence, and violence in general, what is a good method of dealing with these issues and saving lives? Mental healthcare improvement or gun control? She was a volunteer at a hospital during the civil war and realized the horrendous treatment to the patients. The realization that people did better when they were in their own environment, as opposed to a mental institution was a major turning point in the treatment of the mentally ill. This was the time of deinstitutionalization, realizing that individuals would thrive outside of the institution. An article in the Washington Post gives the shocking statistics The number of Americans with intellectual disabilities who live in large state institutions declined by 85 percent between 1965 and 2009 (Pollack). By putting mentally ill individuals back into a more normal environment their cognitive abilities were improved as well as their treatment. The goal of the caliphates was to unify the Islamic people and spread the word of Islam as far as they could. Although their main goal was the same, the Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid caliphate went about this goal in separate ways. The different techniques used by each caliphate was dependent on the individual caliphs. The treatment of groups of peoples inside the empires also differed between the caliphates. The Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid Caliphate each employed styles of rule unique to their empires. The Rashidun Caliphate was the first of the Islamic caliphates established after Muhammad s death. After his death, the early Islamic community was almost torn apart due to a crisis of control. The Rashidun caliphate had the important job of keeping the community together and growing without the Prophet. Because of the Arab Islamic conquests, the Muslims gained large amounts of territory; however, the Arab Muslim leaders did not have the experience that was needed to rule an empire. In The Rise of Islam, Matthew Gordon writes, a fundamental challenge for the caliphs, their governors, and the Arab military elite was to understand how large scale agrarian economies functioned (28). • 33. The Study of Marine Life It wasn t until Aristotle s time that written records of marine life was composed. Aristotle (384 BC to 322 BC) was the first to write about marine life, recording his observations made on or near the Island of Lesbos in Ancient Greece. He recorded identifications of a variety of species ranging from echinoderms to crustaceans to mollusks and even fish. Not only was Aristotle the first to write about his observations of marine life, he was also the first to record his work on the anatomy and physiology of marine animals and was the first to use a systematic taxonomy to classify these animals (Blits, 1999). It is because of his early work that Aristotle is often referred to as the father of marine biology and comparative physiology. The modern day study of marine life began in the 18th century. Captain James Cook (1728 1779) was one of the first explorers to circumnavigate the world. During this time he mapped much of the uncharted waters and also logged many descriptions of plants and animals he came across during his extensive voyages (Cook King, 1784). Following Captain Cook s exploration, many scientists began to study marine life more closely. One example of such early research is the famously debated topic of the importance of subsidence in reef growth (Fautin, 2002). These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape has had ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or considered out of the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crimetend to impact the severity of their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner, convicted sexual offender of Stanford University. Differential Association states that criminal behaviour is learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends. While much emphasis is placed on teaching women to serve as a pastor s wife, women are not often given the opportunity to make a name for themselves and are relegated to a subservient role. This project will build on the work that McMaster Scholars, Genelle Castro and Alicia Kalik, began in 2015. During the 2015 KBTS Women s Conference, attendees expressed a desire to have additional training on business and self empowerment. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a business is successful it is able to provide a sustainable income. By having two incomes, the family can better financially support their children, along with their other financial obligations. School will be more affordable for children, and they can see what accomplishments their parents have achieved. Children will gain more responsibilities at home, and help them learn new skills along the way (Sagalla Carney, 2012). Through all of the obstacles that women have faced struggling for the right to have a career, it can be empowering to have a career. Women did not give up, and knew that they had what it took to support a family, as well as themselves. Because it was a challenge, women started working harder for what they wanted, and helped them become better business women. Their confidence rose, and having more opportunities gave them a purpose (Dina, 2012). METHODOLOGY: My project consisted of conducting a one day women s conference. The first part of the session will cover empowerment. I have created posters and activities that cover the basic tenets of empowerment. The purpose of this section is to get women to find their strengths and see what they can accomplish for themselves. The next section covered entrepreneurship. In that session attendees were broken into groups in order to observe how well they interact with each other to form a business. Each group developed a business and a product that they would ... • 42. Paradigm Vs Traditional Paradigm A paradigm is a model of a situation or a mindset. Paradigms can be rigid or constantly developing as you learn and grow, physically maturing or emotionally evolving. Initially, a paradigm was referring to an accepted model or pattern. In Structure, Thomas Kuhn defined a paradigm simply as a group of exemplary problem solutions universally accepted by the members of a scientific community (Brad Wray, 2012). According to Kuhn, what constitute a paradigmare not abstract theories, but concrete applications of the theories for solutions of typical problem. Paradigm can provide new ways of understanding behaviors in humans such as in individuals, organization, family, community or group and global context. The paradigm concept can serve us... A traditional paradigm that has gone on for centuries would be the sales and promotion of white baby dolls. Until the modern day alternative paradigm shift in the celebration of diversity, all children were presented with a white baby doll as a gift. This paradigm skewed the thought of what a perfect baby looked like, leaving children and even adults absorbing from the youngest age that white was superior. Currently, a child can find a doll to match their hair color, eye color and skin color with facial features that reflect their ethnicity. Charles Barkley once stated, I m not paid to be a role model. I m paid to wreak havoc on the basketball court. This quote is a perfect example of the traditional paradigm illustrating impersonal and a competitive mindset. Mr. Barkley felt no obligation to society and demonstrated that his success was only about him and what he was paid to do. An alternative paradigm for such a public figure would be LeBron James, The LeBron James Family Foundation focuses on children, with James donating around $41 million in 2015 sending 1,100 kids to school. Every child that finished his program will go to college for free. Additionally, James spoke out publicly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Sectionals Reflection One day on May 11, 2017 during IHSA 3A Ottawa sectionals for track and field, I was running the 400 meter dash and the 4x4 meter relay. I was mainly focused on my main event which was the 400 meter dash because my goal was to qualify for state. Coming into this race, I already knew I had a disadvantage because I was assigned to lane 8 but I had mentally prepared myself days before sectionals. I m standing at the starting line ready to give my all and hoping to make it to state. The gun is shot to start the race, and within 120 meters left of my race I see my competitors gaining a lead off the curb. I mentally start to tear down because I expected myself to keep up with them. At the end of the race I kept my composure even though I wanted to cry on the inside. This was a challenging moment for me, I worked hard everyday in practice to miss qualifying for state by 2 seconds. My coach walked over to me and told me that the people I was running with were fast, so was I. He thought I would ve ran a better race if I was assigned to an inside lane of the track to see my competitors running on the side of me. My coach knew I was feeling down and it showed on my face, but I had to remain humble and start getting ready to run my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For AAU we only had practice twice a week and the rest of the days we were expected to practice on our own. My AAU track coach reminded me that I can count on him if I ever needed anything and he believes in me if nobody else does. • 45. Observation Paper On Child Development Observation Paper A unique opportunity was presented to me as I prepared to complete the observation or interview paper for HDFS 225. We have close friends who have a fourteen year old son with Down syndrome and I was given permission to spend time with Jason (not his real name) over a weekend and this enabled me to observe an adolescent male who happens to be a special needs child. The adolescent period of human development interests me since this stage in life presents significant changes and is considered to be some of the most critical and challenging years in human development. The addition of the documented special need made the opportunity very intriguing and I thought it created an excellent learning opportunity. Not only would I be digging into the development of a 14 year old, I would also be gaining knowledge about the impact or effects of Down syndromeon development. Jason is 14 years old, short but heavy set for his age and height. He is typically in a very good mood and happy to have a friend to spend time with and this day as I visited him at his home was no different. Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder which occurs in 1 out of every 800 live births ((T. Crandell, C. Crandell Vander Zanden, 2012, p.81). Most Down patients have a condition called trisomy 21, or 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. This results in an individual with 47 total chromosomes instead of 46 that are normal (Crandell et al., 2012, p.81). This extra chromosome alters typical human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
