Similarities Between Carry On And Harry Potter
Carry On is a fantasy novel written by Rainbow Rowell, one that mirrors the Harry Potter series,
written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter was born into the Wizarding World, and prophesied to be
the savior of the magical world. Harry attends Hogwarts, a boarding school for young witches and
wizards, and over his six years there, works up the power to defeat Lord Voldemort. Simon Snow,
on the other hand, was born a Normal. At age eleven, he was taken to Watford, the magical school
in the World of Mages. He is thought to be the Chosen One, and is trained to use his magic to defeat
the Humdrum. The two books are similar in more ways than one, but they also have their
differences. Some common elements are character types, themes, and the Chosen One archetype.
Characters come in many different shapes and sizes, not to mention their personalities and roles.
Before getting very far, one will notice the abundance of similarities between these two texts,
including the element of magic, the setting, and other small details. One thing that stands out are
the common archetypes between Carry On and Harry Potter. The first of these similar characters
come in the form of the best friend. Ron Weasley and Penelope Bunce are alike in the sense that
they are the best friend of the main character, and could even be considered as the sidekicks. Both
are at the hero s side when needed, and there to provide some comic relief or reassurance in
troubling times. This leads to one difference between the

Abstract
To be successful in today s business environment, an organization must be able to perform certain
fundamentals accurately and efficiently. One of these elements is having an effective and efficient
Inventory System Management (ISM). ISM enables one to have the knowledge of where his or
her inventory is at every step of the way. This allows one to better interact with consumer and
make sales. Choosing the right ISM can lead and pave the ground work for future business success
and profitability.

Some of the disadvantages are: limiting the vendors may limit the variety of products,
relinquishing inventory control over to vendors and distributors may negatively impact their
customer satisfaction, and the customers may decide to deal with supplier directly which could
put Best Buy at risk of loosing their business. Inventory levels over the past 4 years have
remained on an increasingly consistent track as their revenue has risen. According to Best Buy
(2010), this rise in revenue and assets is partly due to the fact that they enter new markets and open
new stores across the world. The latest opportunities that they have come across include new stores
in Europe and other areas overseas. This is new territory for Best Buy but has been a successful
venture based on their flexibility with their inventory systems that they have in place. The

Value Sensitive Design
In Value Sensitive Design and Nanotechnology by Ronald Sandler, Sandler explains the process
engineers must consider while they design a technology.
Sandler introduces technology and its relationship with society. He points out that some
technologies are welcomed by society and may solve world issues while others are resisted by
society because they may cause problems.
Sandler then observes the dependency humans have on technology. He talks about how important
technology is to the survival human race, but also how many current social interactions now
happen through technology.
He then briefly mentions the theme of the article when he writes about deciding if a technology is
ethical or not. Sandler states that if there were more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states that the vast majority of people choose projects that will have a positive outcome,
however, it may not always be the best project. Sandler s example of this is cancer research as
opposed malaria treatment, which is more prevalent in third world countries, while neither project
has a negative outcome.
His second idea of value sensitive design is listed as defining success and how technology can
have different types of success. Sandler says that definition of success must be defined clearly
first off. The example that Sandler uses is the One Laptop Per Child initiative, which was to get
underprivileged kids a laptop for less than $100. Although the original program failed, it lead to
the $75 One Tablet per Child program, so it may be considered a success.
Sandler s third concept of value sensitive design is means and byproducts, which delves into how
many technologies have unintended byproducts, and how the ends don t always justify the
means. One tool that he explains is the Life Cycle Assessment, which tracks a technology through
its life to observe the pros and cons it will have on society. Sandler then explores how
nanotechnology may seem ideal at first glance, but leaves a lot of room for privacy issues. He
thinks that by having social scientists work with engineers, many issues will be

Diction And Imagery In The Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
This poem is entitled The Weary Blues and is written by Langston Hughes. It was originally
published in 1926 in the Urban League Magazine. The time period in which this poem was
written consisted of a lot of slavery of dark skinned people. Moreover, the collection that this poem
is extracted from, also entitled The Weary Blues , focuses on the struggles and experiences of
African Americans at that time. It was during the time period of these struggles when the Africans
brought the blues, originally originated from the Africans, to America. The arrival of this genre of
music into America explains the situation that is dealt with in this poem, which is a Negro man
singing and playing the blues to himself. Hughes use of poetic devices in this... Show more content

Lenox Avenue is a street in Harlem, New York; which, at the time, and even currently, do
African Americans mainly populate. Secondly, the use of imagery portrays his skin colour as it
describes his ebony hands (9). Given the time period, the physical description of the character
allows readers to understand why he d be singing the blues. Emotionally, the man in this poem
seems to be quite lonely. This is demonstrated through the lyrics he sings: Ain t got nobody in all
this world, /Ain t got nobody but ma self (19 20). The diction in these lyrics allows readers to see
that the man feels alone in this world. Furthermore, in the second stanza, he continues his song:
I got the Weary Blues / And I can t be satisfied / Got the Weary Blues / And can t be satisfied / I
ain t happy no mo / And I wish that I had died (25 30). The use of repetition in these lyrics,
excluding the word I the second time, emphasizes that he is unsatisfied but also suggests that he
is the voice of other African Americans that were dealing with a lifestyle like his. The poem ends
by stating that the man slept like a rock or a man that s dead (35). This simile is significant
because it conveys that the subject is lifeless and supports the ideas that he was singing about. His
use of, and, passion in music is portrayed through the personification of a piano: he made that poor

Economic Effects of Illegal Immigration in Los Angeles,...
THE ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
Purpose of Study
Estimates state that over 1.2 million people immigrate to the United States each year, thereby
thrusting the issue of illegal immigration to the forefront of today news headlines. From an
economic standpoint, the effort to absorb illegal immigrants often negatively impacts cities as well
as the entire country. This paper addresses the negative economic outcome of illegal immigrationin
the city of Los Angeles, California through the exploration of studies conducted and statistics
available on the issue of illegal immigration. An effort will be made to determine whether there is

However, in Los Angeles, the low income of the immigrants theoretically results in a lower level
of consumerism. Therefore, if jobs were created via immigrant consumerism, they would likely pay
sub standard wages. From a financial point of view, this results in a net job loss for U.S. citizens
and counters the claim that the immigrant consumerism increases job creation Los Angeles.
(Matloff, 1995)
Advocates of immigration assert that the commercial activities of the immigrants are good for the
city of Los Angeles. There are of course many immigrants in Los Angeles who run their business
very successfully. But these businesses run by immigrants are not beneficial for the economy in
Los Angeles as they often employ illegal immigrants, which only creates more jobs with wages
that are below the state mandated minimum. Advocates of immigration also argue that the low
wages from immigration are beneficial for consumers. However, as stated by Donald Huddle, an
economist at Rice University, consumers are paying high prices for those goods through taxes and
the increased rate of use of government services. From this evidence we can deduce that the only
economic benefit from this situation is to the employers and not to the average citizen in Los
Angeles.
According to the view of an ever increasing body of research, illegal immigrants consume much
more economically than they contribute in Los Angeles.

Case Study On Garment Industry
Case Study 1
The study was carried out on the production facility of a T shirt based garment industry in India.
The current system used by the garment industry is Progressive bundling system (PBS).
However, the PBS system leads to bulks of work in process (WIP) because each PBS system is
being setup for each exclusive product. High amount of WIP causes high throughout time as well as
the rework time which will also makes the line balancing different with a lot of hidden defects in
the products. Besides that, the factory manufactures the t shirt in small order size with a lot of
styles. Thus, the production must hold minimum WIP between processes so that it can adapt to the
changes of order quickly with minimum setting time. By using the current PBS system, such
flexibility could not be achieved. Among all the departments, sewing department having the highest
amount of WIP. The main problem encountered by the sewing room is high production lead time.

Dbq Essay On Childhood And Divorce
Fatherhood Divorce Where you stand depends on where you sit. Have you ever heard that
saying? It means your opinion about a situation can be based on your own experience (or lack of
experience) with it. For example, up until the day my wife said our marriage was over, I
assumed many of my friends got divorced because of their work prioritization, activities, or
some other faulty decisions they made. Today, I m divorced and sitting on the other side the
issue. I realize that divorce can happen to anyone due to any number of causes. Divorce can be
the result of sudden, clearly recognizable events or slow building, almost imperceptible issues
which erode the foundation of marriage over time. It seems that for many men, the choice to
divorce isn t theirs because about 70% of divorces today are initiated by women.[1] While we
may not have the power to stay married, we do have the power to define our role as a parent after
a divorce. Defining that role begins with understanding the baseline and the changes ahead. Self

In the 1920s the second Ku Klux Klan was reborn. The first one originated in Tennessee shortly
after the civil war. The Ku Klux Klan was a secret society that was dedicated to white supremacy
in the United States. Novels such as the Leopard s Spots and The Clansman written by Thomas
Dixon were encouraging the values of the Klan. William J. Simmons established the new KKK.
He made the secret group only available to white American born Protestant men. He also made the

Sustainable tourism is an industry that attempts to make a low impact on the environment and local
culture while helping to generate income, employment, and the conservation of local ecosystems. It
is responsible tourism that is both ecologically and culturally sensitive. Meaning, sustainable
tourism activities have minimal impact on the environment and culture of the host community. It
aims to meet the needs of the present tourists and host communities whilst protecting and enhancing

There are also a number of downsides to the area because of economic impacts that the travel
and tourism industry bring that mostly affects the locals of the area. First is the increase in
living costs. As more and more tourists come to the area, tourism related facilities increase the
prices of their goods knowing that most tourists can afford their prices. A good example of this
negative impact is taxi drivers charging tourists more than the usual. Second is leakage.
Leakage is defined as the amount of money for supplies and services paid for outside an area or
in simple terms, money that does not benefit the economy of the area. The economic benefits of
the area can be lost if the goods and services are imported rather than for the local goods and
services to be used. Leakage can be avoided by sourcing local materials, using local products,
allowing local people to sell in resorts and hotels and employing more local people. Third impact
is the decline of traditional employment. As the tourism industry grows there is a bigger demand
for people to be employed in it. More and more people are attracted to this industry for it provides a
more attractive option rather than the harder, lower paid traditional jobs. This then results to the
traditional industries suffering for the younger generation no longer want to learn the skills of the
old jobs like weaving and thatchery resulting that

Business Laws And Ethic Hinder Your Company s Economic...
When deciding where in the world it is best to start a potential business or form a mutually
beneficial merger; What factors do you consider? Do you wonder if your own societal rules,
customs and values will clash with those of your new place of business? Would potential
countries business laws and ethic hinder your company s economic growth; or will those laws
provide you aid. There are a number of factors one needs to consider when deciding where to
move or start your business, these are but a few.
1.Societal customs and values
China is a diverse country well known for its traditions and work ethic. Their culture focuses on
the wellbeing of the group over that of the individual; as such, they as a culture are very hard
working and will often go above and beyond the call of duty. Heavy emphasis is placed on
integrity and formality particularly those involving socializing. Introductions in china are as
integral if not more than in the united states; careful attention must be placed in how one
approaches and introduces themselves lest they make faux pas. In China rules concerning social
etiquette forms not only the basis for propriety, but also basis for many for their traditions. In a
country who believes that all that swims, crawls, slimes and walks is food; it is not surprising how
large a role how food is eaten plays into the culture. Introductions:

Analysis Of Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting
A wise person one said, Being strong doesn t mean you ll never get hurt. It means even when you
get hurt, you ll never let it defeat you. This quote relates to the short story Fly Away Home by Eve
Bunting. In this story, a young boy named Andrew lives in an airport with his father, while living
there Andrew shows us that it is important to staystrong through tough times.
In the beginning of the story, being strong through tough times comes up a lot. In one instance
in the story, Andrew couldn t talk with the people he knew at the airport because they could get
him noticed. This shows that he stayed strong because it s really tempting to talk to your
friends, but Andrew had to choose not being noticed over friendship. This would be a big
challenge for most of us, but Andrew stayed strong through it. In addition, because Andrew lived
in an airport, he had to sleep sitting up because he had no bed. This is important because not only
is it had to sleep sitting up, but it s even tougher to have no hope of getting a real bed.
Furthermore, Andrew stayed strong when he saw everyone leaving to go home when he stayed at
the airport. Strength is shown here because Andrew must have known these people were going
home to family, but the only family he had was at the airport so Andrew had no choice but to stay.
As a result, it is important to stay strong through the tough times we face. Later in Fly Away Home,
having strength through hard times comes up quite a few times. For

The Pros And Cons Of Fiction
There is nothing better than reading an interesting book, staying up all night and reading a good,
fictional story until you fall asleep, and waking up early just to see how it end. A person s reason
for enjoying fiction can differ but it is almost for the fact that fiction can make the reader feel as if
they have been transported to another world. People read fictionfor the curiosity and authors can
state/make points mixed with their own creativity. In class, we discuss authors and their messages
hidden through their story s plot. The author s plot is often just a background for what the writeris
really trying to get out to his audience.
In order to escape from the drama or reality of life and enter a more interesting one, people read
fiction to escape our world and enter someone else s. ...other times she needs to literally escape
her own thoughts. So she turns to books (Monica M Clarks). Taking a break from work and
school and taking time to just bury all your thoughts into a book is something that readers of all
audiences would agree sounds rather enjoyable. Fiction is like a finding all these alternate realities
and each reality bringing you into living through someone else s life.
Readers read fiction to understand people they haven t met and places they ve never visited. If a
reader were to compare a book and its movie , they would always agree that in the book, you know

The Law when Two Companies Merge
1A.
During the Merger of AB and YZ into MN, an issue relating to licence keys will arise because of
the Copy Right Act of 1988. This is as the software that was previously licenced to both
companies has now become invalidated due to the fact it was licenced to each individual and
respective company, but not MN as a whole. Therefore any software used in the development and
hosting of the database and website, will now have to be renewed.
For the merging of the systems and newly built website, the Supply of Goods and Services Act
1982 would expect a reasonable level of quality that someone, who is in the business would be
expect from web design and database systems university graduate. The Supply of Goods and
Services Act also stipulate that we should agree to a cost that is reasonable for part time
university students. This could be around 3 4k for the website and around 2k for the database
integration. A time scale of around three months should also be set; this will be to allow the student
to carry on with their study while working for MN.
We should also be aware that a website made by students may not have the most secure systems
employed, and a data breach could be possible. If a data breach does happen then the impending
ICO enquiry for breaking the Data Protection Act 1998, will land squarely on our shoulders. This is
as the courts will not accept our decision to allow students to become MN s data controller.
Systems should also be in place to automatically delete

way because the audience can see your process and final work at the same time. The clip is

but more formal and office look. The editorial pages of Tom Ford have also been very united and
clear of their theme. The editorial I have seen is mainly accessories and eyewear. The

what the working class can do. Although fail, the Chartist Movement is undeniably one of the most
important events throughout the Industrial Revolution. The causes of the Chartist Movement vary

hope the movement, if successful, can improve their life. But aside from the working class, almost
everyone else opposes the movement. They fear the change would be bad for their rule, their
wealth and therefore oppose it.
In short term, the movement failed. The Charter was not only reject once, but three times. No

Near-Death Experience Theory
Death is something every human is afraid of. We know it will happen sooner or later; it is
inevitable. Death takes away loved ones, it takes away people that are so important to us. So
many people have gone through near death experiences, which is why those people look at life
like it is so precious. Spiritual and physiological hypotheses are about near deathexperiences. While
there are some differences between a spiritual hypothesis and a physiological hypothesis, the
similarities are evident.
According to Oxford Dictionary, a near death experience is an unusual experience taking place on

Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a technique were people are taught to become aware of there body, and learn to
control involuntary processes. It is not known why biofeedback works, but studies have shown that
it functions best with patients who have illnesses that are stress related. This practice came to be in
laboratory studies in the 1940 s. It is considered one of the earliest behavioral medicine treatments ,
but did not gain much popularity until the 1950 s. It was found to be a mixture of many scientific
experiments such as altered states of consciousness and operant conditioning. These findings were
combined to form the now popular treatment. Although scientists do not necessarily know how

James Joyce s A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
The popularity of the coming of age novel in the Twentieth and the Twenty First Centuries reveals
a deepening understanding of the impact of childhood and adolescent experiences in the long term
development of adulthood. Such is the case of James Joyce s A portrait of the Artist as a Young
Man, which explores the lasting impact of Steven Dedalus boyhood and teenage years on his
destiny as an artist. The majority of the novel centres on these early years and draws upon the
conventions of the Bildungsroman. The narrativelargely is driven by impressionistic and sensory
language which initially focuses on Steven s encounters with the world but eventually turns
inwards to focus on his emotional development and understanding of himself.... Show more content

Furthermore Joyce s purpose is further revealed through his protagonist s view of the artist.
Steven expresses the view of the role of the artist as an individual who chooses to isolate
themselves; through the strict focalisation and the stream of consciousness the reader is able to
experience Steven s isolation and the development of his artistic expression (Belanger xxiv).
However, as a result of this isolation we are given limited insight into the way Steven is
perceived by others. One of the only descriptions given is from his rival at Belvedere, Heron. He
says, Dedalus is model youth. He doesn t smoke and doesn t go to bazaars and he doesn t flirt
and he doesn t damn anything and damn all. (Joyce 57). The repetition of doesn t implies that
Steven is reluctant to participate in the world around him, that in fact he does isolate himself from
others and to an extent becomes an observer of life. Ultimately, Joyce does not prioritise the
perception of Steven by others, choosing to focus on Steven s perception of himself.
The novel opens with the story of the baby tuckoo, which Steven realises is him, He was baby
tuckoo. The moocow came down the road where Betty Byrne lived (Joyce 3). This short tale
becomes a microcosm the entire novel and sets the tone for a narrative of self discovery and
realisation (Belanger ix). Following

Quebec National Cinema
Quebec Cinema as National Cinema
Quebec has had a long association with the idea of independence from the rest of Canada. The
province has had two referendums to vote on whether it should separate from Canada or not.
However, this want for independence is not just shown in the political sphere, but as well in its
culture, and especially its film industry. Because of this independence, the Quebec film industry
should be viewed as a separate entity from Canadian film, and not as a regional cinema of Canada.
Quebec cinema is a national cinema because of the protection of the French Canadian language and
culture, along with its refusal of the outside, and its specific use of the direct cinema. These traits
can be seen in the canonical films Mon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Films of this period began to reflect a change in the values and attitudes of the French Canadian
people as political separatism started to become a real possibility for Quebec. Michel Houle even
argues that the Quiet Revolution was started in part due to the freedom of speech that came from
the films of the early 1960s; they instigated a sort of identity crisis in the people of Quebec (168).
With this, film production was also subject to the growing auteur principle, which stressed artistic
control, expressive freedom, and personal style in direction, independent of established industry
practices , (Reines 24 25). This meant that many film directors started to take on their own styles
and thusly formed a set of characteristics that became standard of Quebec films: further rejection of
outside film industries practices, and the shift towards the le direct style of filmmaking (Gittings

The Probation Officer And Offender Role
The Probation Officer and Offender role has been widely examined, specifically in regards to the

CleпїЅfilas s Woman Hollering Creek
Woman Hollering Creek, a short story by Sandra Cisneros, tells of CleГіfilas, a Mexican woman,
brought to the U.S. as a young bride. During her brief marriage to Juan Pedro, CleГіfilas must
confront her changing beliefs about marriage and love. CleГіfilas fantasizes about marriage as a
passionate love affair, but instead finds her own marriageto be mundane, restrictive, and at times
violent, finally discovering her strength to escape and return to Mexico. As a young girl, much of
CleГіfilas ideas of marriage are based upon what she sees on television. She yearns for passion in
its purest crystalline essence. The kind books and songs and telenovas describe when one finds,
finally, the great loveof one s life, and does whatever one can, must do, at whatever the cost (2772).
She sees love as an ideal that can withstand every hardship of life and worth whatever cost she must
pay. There is only one great love for her and she thinks, to suffer for love is good. The pain all
sweet somehow. In the end (2773). She also has visions of what life in the U.S. will be for her as a
married woman. Even the name of the town she moves to gives her fantasies as she thinks, SeguГn,
Tejas. A nice sterling ring to it. The tinkle of money. She would get to wear outfits like the
women on the tele... And have a lovely house (2773). Crossing the creek on the way to her new

Flowers are the epitome of beauty and delicacy. Whenever we think of them, beauty and fragility

Causes Of Economic Inequality
Income inequality is one of the largest fear mongering tactics that the left likes to use in order to
advance their ideology. The differences in income in America can be attributed to many different
factors, however much of the theories presented by the major distribution services do not reflect
reality. Economic inequalityis the difference in income between individuals across the United States
. Sociologists define the social stratification of this as being the upper, middle, and lower classes.
The upper class (the 1%) household makes $380,000+, with the middle class making upwards of
$150,000, with the lower class being at the povertylevel (around $25,000 for a family of 4 and
around $20,000 for a family of three). There have been many solutions presented in order to
tackle this subject, however many of them have not been practical enough to get the job done.
What are the root causes of economic inequality and can it be fixed? This question has been
addressed by numerous people and usually becomes increasingly popular during presidential
campaigns. This past election has brought to light many of the disagreements and divisions
between the country when it comes to dealing with social and economic issues. Liberals believe
that income inequality is due to the faults of the 1% and that wealth should be redistributed.
They believe that there are structures in place that limit the lower and middle lower classes
from rising through the ranks. Conservatives tend to approach income inequality in a different
way. They believe that inequality is one of the things that will always be present in society.
Furthermore, they believe that your income is proportional to the kind of person you are based
on your creativity, work ethic, and resources. Thomas Sowell, one of the leading economists and
prolific authors, states that demographics means you can not have income equality. For example,
Japanese Americans are more than 20 years older on average than Puerto Ricans in the United
States. A 40 year old man, for example, has more than 10 times as much job experience as a 20
year old man, if you start counting from the age of 18 as adulthood. So there was never a reason to
expect equality. So I go through many different

The Theory Of An Organization
Organizations are groups of people working together to achieve a common goal. The organizations
theories correlate together in order for organizations to sustain functionality. In all organizations
there is a common unit of power that directs the organization toward a common goal. Within the
Department of Health and Human Resources, the source of power is the commissioner, and the
direction of the department is to have zero child fatalities and maintain safety of children.
The classical model focuses on the structure of the organization. The decision making starts at the
top, with the person in power and trickles down to the employees in the organizations. Hence, the
person in power has the authority and decision making capability. This is also known as
bureaucracy, which occurs within a government institution such as; when meetings occur, the
commissioner will make the final decisions about goals and how to implement those goals. All
organizations recognize that decisions have to be made. The decision theory is similar to the
classical model in how decisions are made and who makes the decisions. The person in power
makes the decision, and the ultimate outcome is to achieve a common goal. Decisions are made on
rationale when possible, but achieving a perfect goal is not the ultimate goal. When conflict occurs
it is embraced, and organization work to accommodate or even coerce members to achieve common
goals. Human relations theory is derived from the machine

Essay about Christian Teaching on Wealth and Poverty
Coursework
(a) (i) Outline Christian teaching on wealth and poverty.
Christians do not think money is a bad thing. However, they believe the way money is earned and
used is the issue. Most Christians believe that wealth is a gift from God to benefit others.
Christians believe that all money belongs to God and he gives them stewardship of his money to
use wisely. The Bible teaches, You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24). For
Christians this means that they must be careful not to replace their love for God with the love of
money. Christian teaching on wealth and possessions varies slightly regarding the amount of money
and possessions that should be given to the poor. Some Christians follow the teaching in (Mark ...

(Luke 10:25 37). Jesus taught this so that Christians would treat everyone the way that they would
want to be treated. In Luke 6:20 26, Jesus said. That the poor were special to him and that their
suffering would be rewarded in heaven. He also went on to say, The rich who ignored the suffering
of the poor would be punished. One of Jesus most important teachings on poverty was in Matthew
25:31 46. To the affect Jesus said Whenever you help anyone in need you are helping me.
Christians believe that when they help someone they are helping Jesus and that they will be
rewarded for it. These are the main Christian teachings on wealth and poverty.

Dante Alighieri was a very well known and influential poet in early literature. amp;#8220;He was
not only a poet, he was also a philosophical thinker, an active politician, and a religious visionary ;
(Holmes 1). Dante was born in Florence in 1265, into the Guelph political party, one of the two

papacy and were against the Renaissance. Their opposition was the Ghibellini Party who consisted

His writings have been hailed amp;#8220;the pillars on which the European literary tradition has

amp;#8217;s Divine Comedy has rightly been regarded as the supreme literary expression of a
crucial stage in European thought ; (Holmes 1). Dante also influenced the style of poetry by
introducing a format that consisted of three canticles each divided into 33 or 34 cantos. Many poets
after him have copied this format (Wilkins 12).
His most famous piece of literature, The Divine Comedy, is said to be important also because of
amp;#8220;It amp;#8217;s place in the history of the development of the Italian language ; (Dante:
The Divine amp;#8230; Internet). To understand this we need to look at the language and writings
at that time in history. During Dante amp;#8217;s lifetime different dialects of Italian were spoken
in different parts of the country (Dante Alighieri, 1265 1321 Internet). Dante was a very skilled
writer who wrote in both his Florentine Italian dialect and Latin, which was unusual since most
scholarly writings at that time were in Latin (Dante Internet). Dante however believed that the
language of one amp;#8217;s family was noble and he broke the traditions of those before him.

The Effects Of Video Games On Youth
A. Statement of the Research Problem:
The purpose of this research is to determine if aggressive behavior amongst the adolescent stem
from playing violent video games. In 1976, the first violent video game Death Race was released
but, never held accountable for wrong doings of the youths of that time era. It has only been in
recent years that society blames the violence within these games for the negative behaviors of
youths. The graphics within these games have consistently improved over that past few decades
and now seem just as realistic as life itself. Although, video games are more realistic than
decades before, they are only one minute factor in determining ones behavior. When determining
if violent video games is a factor of aggressive behavior , one needs to also needs to take into
consideration how long that youth is playing a particular game, is that youth being supervised as
he or she is playing that particular game, what type of social setting is involved, and etc. From
bullying to high school shootings, violent video games have been held responsible for numerous
wrong doings by youths.
B. Literature Review:
Parents have been torn on whether video games impose positive or negative behaviors within our
adolescent. With new video games being created and the complexity standards being raised, the
concentration levels have increased causing the brain and hands to work harder and faster. This will
continue to help the video games through life with the handling

Essay On The Conch Shell In Lord Of The Flies
A group of young British boys is stranded on an island with little to no supplies, besides a silly
shell, and a fire to keep their hope alive. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, a group of British
boys were shot out of an airplane and landed on a strange island, all separated from each other. It is
a very interesting novelwhich includes a series of intense and sad events that all play a part in
leading the group of boys to their rescue off of the island. The group of boys has also come across
multiple items which represent a larger and influential idea towards the reader. The fire, conch, and
the specs which belong to Piggy. The symbolic conch shell in Lord of the Flies evolved its meaning
throughout the novel seeing that it first represented order, became power, and ultimately a loss of
civilizationthrough the course of the book.
To begin, throughout the beginning of Lord of the Flies, the conch shell becomes a symbol of
order and unity. After their tragic plane crash, one element that brought the boys together was the
conch shell. One of the main characters, Ralph, used the conch shell to call anyone else who is
on the island, which resulted in the other boys being found and a tribe being formed. When Ralph

Frankenstein Pursuit Of Knowledge
Since Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein is written as a piece of Gothic Fiction, this could create
the illusion that the themes of fear, death, and horror point towards a widespread criticism of
human nature and life. However this is not the case. In many instances, Shelley s work serves the
purpose of comparing and evaluating to what extent her respective protagonists interact with the
various temptations that define her novel. This varied assessment should be considered a critique,
as it provides a widespread analysis, balancing opposing perspectives that contain varied
interpretations of morality. The theme of the pursuit of knowledge is a textbook example of how
Shelley takes a general theme, and redefines it within the context of her novel... Show more content

Proving to be a foil character to the end, Walton learns from Victor s mistakes and returns home
with his crew before it is to late, providing an alternative perspective for Shelley s evaluation of
how the pursuit of knowledge can corrupt the mind. Walton emphasizes how he cannot lead them
unwillingly to danger and must return, (219) not as a means to abandon his purpose but to
reevaluate it entirely. Shelley wants her reader to question if the pursuit of knowledge exists for
the sake of glory or the sake of tranquility, seeing Victor embrace the former while Walton
ultimately embraces the latter. Shelly uses Victor s last words as an evaluation and summary of
his mistakes, highlighting a shift in his tone where he speaks with a defeatists mentality after
having been prideful for so long exclaiming, farewell Walton! Seek happiness in tranquility and
avoid ambition...yet another may succeed. (220) Victor s final words are not only directed at
Walton, but directed at the reader as well. Shelley wants to emphasize the lack of correlation
between tranquility and ambition with the additional example of the Monsters simplistic pursuits
in the back of the reader s mind as well. Victors last words yet another may succeed are the most
direct indication of a critique because they suggest that it is not the pursuit of knowledge that leads
Victor to his deathbed, but instead the way in which he went about attaining it. Ultimately, by
learning from Victor, Walton attains powerful knowledge in the sense that he likely saves his own
life life comes to the understanding there is more more danger to the unknown than good.
Therefore, Shelley critiques the pursuit of knowledge by widening the scope of how it can be
defined, weighing the resolutions of Victor and Walton on

  • 2. Similarities Between Carry On And Harry Potter Carry On is a fantasy novel written by Rainbow Rowell, one that mirrors the Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter was born into the Wizarding World, and prophesied to be the savior of the magical world. Harry attends Hogwarts, a boarding school for young witches and wizards, and over his six years there, works up the power to defeat Lord Voldemort. Simon Snow, on the other hand, was born a Normal. At age eleven, he was taken to Watford, the magical school in the World of Mages. He is thought to be the Chosen One, and is trained to use his magic to defeat the Humdrum. The two books are similar in more ways than one, but they also have their differences. Some common elements are character types, themes, and the Chosen One archetype. Characters come in many different shapes and sizes, not to mention their personalities and roles. Before getting very far, one will notice the abundance of similarities between these two texts, including the element of magic, the setting, and other small details. One thing that stands out are the common archetypes between Carry On and Harry Potter. The first of these similar characters come in the form of the best friend. Ron Weasley and Penelope Bunce are alike in the sense that they are the best friend of the main character, and could even be considered as the sidekicks. Both are at the hero s side when needed, and there to provide some comic relief or reassurance in troubling times. This leads to one difference between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the disadvantages are: limiting the vendors may limit the variety of products, relinquishing inventory control over to vendors and distributors may negatively impact their customer satisfaction, and the customers may decide to deal with supplier directly which could put Best Buy at risk of loosing their business. Inventory levels over the past 4 years have remained on an increasingly consistent track as their revenue has risen. According to Best Buy (2010), this rise in revenue and assets is partly due to the fact that they enter new markets and open new stores across the world. The latest opportunities that they have come across include new stores in Europe and other areas overseas. This is new territory for Best Buy but has been a successful venture based on their flexibility with their inventory systems that they have in place. Sandler introduces technology and its relationship with society. He points out that some technologies are welcomed by society and may solve world issues while others are resisted by society because they may cause problems. Sandler then observes the dependency humans have on technology. He talks about how important technology is to the survival human race, but also how many current social interactions now happen through technology. He then briefly mentions the theme of the article when he writes about deciding if a technology is ethical or not. Sandler states that if there were more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states that the vast majority of people choose projects that will have a positive outcome, however, it may not always be the best project. Sandler s example of this is cancer research as opposed malaria treatment, which is more prevalent in third world countries, while neither project has a negative outcome. His second idea of value sensitive design is listed as defining success and how technology can have different types of success. Sandler says that definition of success must be defined clearly first off. The example that Sandler uses is the One Laptop Per Child initiative, which was to get underprivileged kids a laptop for less than $100. Although the original program failed, it lead to the $75 One Tablet per Child program, so it may be considered a success. Sandler s third concept of value sensitive design is means and byproducts, which delves into how many technologies have unintended byproducts, and how the ends don t always justify the means. One tool that he explains is the Life Cycle Assessment, which tracks a technology through its life to observe the pros and cons it will have on society. Sandler then explores how nanotechnology may seem ideal at first glance, but leaves a lot of room for privacy issues. He thinks that by having social scientists work with engineers, many issues will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Secondly, the use of imagery portrays his skin colour as it describes his ebony hands (9). Given the time period, the physical description of the character allows readers to understand why he d be singing the blues. Emotionally, the man in this poem seems to be quite lonely. This is demonstrated through the lyrics he sings: Ain t got nobody in all this world, /Ain t got nobody but ma self (19 20). The diction in these lyrics allows readers to see that the man feels alone in this world. Furthermore, in the second stanza, he continues his song: I got the Weary Blues / And I can t be satisfied / Got the Weary Blues / And can t be satisfied / I ain t happy no mo / And I wish that I had died (25 30). The use of repetition in these lyrics, excluding the word I the second time, emphasizes that he is unsatisfied but also suggests that he is the voice of other African Americans that were dealing with a lifestyle like his. The poem ends by stating that the man slept like a rock or a man that s dead (35). However, in Los Angeles, the low income of the immigrants theoretically results in a lower level of consumerism. Therefore, if jobs were created via immigrant consumerism, they would likely pay sub standard wages. From a financial point of view, this results in a net job loss for U.S. citizens and counters the claim that the immigrant consumerism increases job creation Los Angeles. (Matloff, 1995) Advocates of immigration assert that the commercial activities of the immigrants are good for the city of Los Angeles. There are of course many immigrants in Los Angeles who run their business very successfully. But these businesses run by immigrants are not beneficial for the economy in Los Angeles as they often employ illegal immigrants, which only creates more jobs with wages that are below the state mandated minimum. Advocates of immigration also argue that the low wages from immigration are beneficial for consumers. However, as stated by Donald Huddle, an economist at Rice University, consumers are paying high prices for those goods through taxes and the increased rate of use of government services. From this evidence we can deduce that the only economic benefit from this situation is to the employers and not to the average citizen in Los Angeles. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also a number of downsides to the area because of economic impacts that the travel and tourism industry bring that mostly affects the locals of the area. First is the increase in living costs. As more and more tourists come to the area, tourism related facilities increase the prices of their goods knowing that most tourists can afford their prices. A good example of this negative impact is taxi drivers charging tourists more than the usual. Second is leakage. Leakage is defined as the amount of money for supplies and services paid for outside an area or in simple terms, money that does not benefit the economy of the area. The economic benefits of the area can be lost if the goods and services are imported rather than for the local goods and services to be used. Leakage can be avoided by sourcing local materials, using local products, allowing local people to sell in resorts and hotels and employing more local people. Third impact is the decline of traditional employment. As the tourism industry grows there is a bigger demand for people to be employed in it. This quote relates to the short story Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. In this story, a young boy named Andrew lives in an airport with his father, while living there Andrew shows us that it is important to staystrong through tough times. In the beginning of the story, being strong through tough times comes up a lot. In one instance in the story, Andrew couldn t talk with the people he knew at the airport because they could get him noticed. This shows that he stayed strong because it s really tempting to talk to your friends, but Andrew had to choose not being noticed over friendship. This would be a big challenge for most of us, but Andrew stayed strong through it. In addition, because Andrew lived in an airport, he had to sleep sitting up because he had no bed. This is important because not only is it had to sleep sitting up, but it s even tougher to have no hope of getting a real bed. Furthermore, Andrew stayed strong when he saw everyone leaving to go home when he stayed at the airport. Strength is shown here because Andrew must have known these people were going home to family, but the only family he had was at the airport so Andrew had no choice but to stay. As a result, it is important to stay strong through the tough times we face. Later in Fly Away Home, having strength through hard times comes up quite a few times. For ... Steven expresses the view of the role of the artist as an individual who chooses to isolate themselves; through the strict focalisation and the stream of consciousness the reader is able to experience Steven s isolation and the development of his artistic expression (Belanger xxiv). However, as a result of this isolation we are given limited insight into the way Steven is perceived by others. One of the only descriptions given is from his rival at Belvedere, Heron. He says, Dedalus is model youth. He doesn t smoke and doesn t go to bazaars and he doesn t flirt and he doesn t damn anything and damn all. (Joyce 57). The repetition of doesn t implies that Steven is reluctant to participate in the world around him, that in fact he does isolate himself from others and to an extent becomes an observer of life. Ultimately, Joyce does not prioritise the perception of Steven by others, choosing to focus on Steven s perception of himself. CleГіfilas fantasizes about marriage as a passionate love affair, but instead finds her own marriageto be mundane, restrictive, and at times violent, finally discovering her strength to escape and return to Mexico. As a young girl, much of CleГіfilas ideas of marriage are based upon what she sees on television. She yearns for passion in its purest crystalline essence. The kind books and songs and telenovas describe when one finds, finally, the great loveof one s life, and does whatever one can, must do, at whatever the cost (2772). She sees love as an ideal that can withstand every hardship of life and worth whatever cost she must pay. There is only one great love for her and she thinks, to suffer for love is good. The pain all sweet somehow. In the end (2773). She also has visions of what life in the U.S. will be for her as a married woman. Even the name of the town she moves to gives her fantasies as she thinks, SeguГn, Tejas. A nice sterling ring to it. The tinkle of money. She would get to wear outfits like the women on the tele... And have a lovely house (2773). Crossing the creek on the way to her new home, she laughs at its name, believing it to have Such a funny name for a creek so pretty and full of happily ... • 31. Causes Of Economic Inequality Income inequality is one of the largest fear mongering tactics that the left likes to use in order to advance their ideology. The differences in income in America can be attributed to many different factors, however much of the theories presented by the major distribution services do not reflect reality. Economic inequalityis the difference in income between individuals across the United States . Sociologists define the social stratification of this as being the upper, middle, and lower classes. The upper class (the 1%) household makes $380,000+, with the middle class making upwards of $150,000, with the lower class being at the povertylevel (around $25,000 for a family of 4 and around $20,000 for a family of three). There have been many solutions presented in order to tackle this subject, however many of them have not been practical enough to get the job done. What are the root causes of economic inequality and can it be fixed? This question has been addressed by numerous people and usually becomes increasingly popular during presidential campaigns. This past election has brought to light many of the disagreements and divisions between the country when it comes to dealing with social and economic issues. Liberals believe that income inequality is due to the faults of the 1% and that wealth should be redistributed. They believe that there are structures in place that limit the lower and middle lower classes from rising through the ranks. Conservatives tend to approach income inequality in a different way. They believe that inequality is one of the things that will always be present in society. Furthermore, they believe that your income is proportional to the kind of person you are based on your creativity, work ethic, and resources. Thomas Sowell, one of the leading economists and prolific authors, states that demographics means you can not have income equality. For example, Japanese Americans are more than 20 years older on average than Puerto Ricans in the United States. A 40 year old man, for example, has more than 10 times as much job experience as a 20 year old man, if you start counting from the age of 18 as adulthood. So there was never a reason to expect equality. So I go through many different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The organizations theories correlate together in order for organizations to sustain functionality. In all organizations there is a common unit of power that directs the organization toward a common goal. Within the Department of Health and Human Resources, the source of power is the commissioner, and the direction of the department is to have zero child fatalities and maintain safety of children. The classical model focuses on the structure of the organization. The decision making starts at the top, with the person in power and trickles down to the employees in the organizations. Hence, the person in power has the authority and decision making capability. This is also known as bureaucracy, which occurs within a government institution such as; when meetings occur, the commissioner will make the final decisions about goals and how to implement those goals. All organizations recognize that decisions have to be made. The decision theory is similar to the classical model in how decisions are made and who makes the decisions. The person in power makes the decision, and the ultimate outcome is to achieve a common goal. Decisions are made on rationale when possible, but achieving a perfect goal is not the ultimate goal. When conflict occurs it is embraced, and organization work to accommodate or even coerce members to achieve common goals. Human relations theory is derived from the machine ... However, they believe the way money is earned and used is the issue. Most Christians believe that wealth is a gift from God to benefit others. Christians believe that all money belongs to God and he gives them stewardship of his money to use wisely. The Bible teaches, You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24). For Christians this means that they must be careful not to replace their love for God with the love of money. Walton emphasizes how he cannot lead them unwillingly to danger and must return, (219) not as a means to abandon his purpose but to reevaluate it entirely. Shelley wants her reader to question if the pursuit of knowledge exists for the sake of glory or the sake of tranquility, seeing Victor embrace the former while Walton ultimately embraces the latter. Shelly uses Victor s last words as an evaluation and summary of his mistakes, highlighting a shift in his tone where he speaks with a defeatists mentality after having been prideful for so long exclaiming, farewell Walton! Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition...yet another may succeed. (220) Victor s final words are not only directed at Walton, but directed at the reader as well. Shelley wants to emphasize the lack of correlation between tranquility and ambition with the additional example of the Monsters simplistic pursuits in the back of the reader s mind as well. Victors last words yet another may succeed are the most direct indication of a critique because they suggest that it is not the pursuit of knowledge that leads Victor to his deathbed, but instead the way in which he went about attaining it.
