This article will cover a wide range
from the definition of ‘sustainable’ to
the ways we can all adopt a
sustainable lifestyle.
How to adopt a sustainable lifestyle
3. What is sustainability?
Sustainability can be defined by the avoidance of the
depletion of natural resources to maintain an ecological
balance.
Yes, this definition is very wide and many could argue
what is sustainable and what is not. To make it simple, as
it is a subjective definition, we will try to explain our vision
of sustainability.
4. Step 1: Make sure you know what you are buying
The first thing that comes to our mind when we think about sustainability is
consumption. Getting to know how and when the products you buy is a very
important step. To do so, you can:
• Do some quick research on the company on their approach to sustainability
on neutral websites. A great source is CSR Hub, which allows you to search for
a company to know its sustainability rating.
• Lookup the particular materials used by the item you buy to make sure it’s
produced without harm, dangerous materials, or child labour.
5. Step 2: Reuse and repair items
In our fast-paced world, people tend to throw away and replace rather than
reuse and repair. This is one of the biggest issues we are facing. When we throw
away stuff and buy brand new items, there are several problems:
• The items we throw away might be useful for someone else
• The items we throw away cause pollution as it needs to be treated by waste
management – and only a tiny fraction is actually recyclable
• When we buy new items to replace our preloved ones, we increase the need
for production of these items – and therefore pollution
6. Step 2: Reuse and repair items
• There are a few places and websites that allow you to repair your items such
as:
• For electronics – The Restart Project
• For clothes – Clothes Doctor
• For furniture – The Fantastic Handy Man
7. Step 3: Do not throw it away, Partage it!
• If you do not need or want any item anymore and it is still
functionning, someone else will be happy to have it.
• By giving your item a second life, you prevent the creation of
additional waste and production of another item.
• On Partage, you can give a second life to your unwanted item
and get rewarded.
8. Step 4: Use less energy
One of the most important tips to be more sustainable is
to use less energy in general.
There are numerous ways you can save energy (and
money) by turning off unused appliances, turning off
your Wi-Fi box when you are out of your house is a good
example of what you could do in addition to the obvious
steps.
9. Step 5: Go paperless
In our modern world, we need less and less paper in our
every day lives.
If you still receive paper version of your bills, bank
statements and others, going paperless will save tons of
paper in a year.
10. Step 6: Do not waste food
• Food waste is one of the biggest issues in our world. Food is
wasted at the source (by producers) and at the destination (by us
– customers).
• There is some progress being made on the producer side. Even if
it’s taking quite a long time. But there is something we can our
on our end prevent it from happening. You can for example:
• Reuse your old break for crouton
• Shop by using the app TooGoodToGo – it will allow you to prevent
waste of food by shops and you will save money at the same time
• Cook stir fries when vegetables are about to go off
• Freeze your meat if you are not sure you will eat it before
expiration
11. Step 7: Wear sustainable clothing
• Sustainable fashion was very exclusive a while ago. This is not the
case anymore. You can also find sustainable clothing deals on
our Partage Marketplace area.
12. What is Partage?
Partage means “share” in French. It is an online eco-friendly
platform founded in September 2020 by two brothers, Boris and
Isaac Kwemo, that encourages sustainable consumption for all.
It came from the observation that sustainable brands need more
visibility online. With our expertise in SEO, analytics, and targeting,
we aim to make a change!
Partage.com operates in two activities:
• A marketplace where users can shop sustainable
products and benefit from discounted prices by using
their points
• A donation platform between individuals where users can
get items for free and give items in exchange for points
